Theodora Dennis 1908-2002
LARNED - Theodora Dennis, 93, died Feb. 17 at South West Medical Center in Liberal. She was born March 2, 1908, in Pawnee County, the daughter of Arthur D. and Lelia M. Riley Eddy. She married Russell R. Hall in 1926. He died in 1968. She married Clyde Dennis March 1, 1952, in Sayre, Okla. He died April 23, 1985. A lifelong resident of Pawnee County, she worked in the dietary department at Larned State Hospital and was later employed by USD 495 at Phinney School in Larned. Mrs. Dennis was a member of First Congregational Church of Garfield, Fort Larned Daughters of American Revolution Chapter, National DAR Chapter and Eagles Auxiliary Chapter 646 in Great Bend. Survivors include two sons, Eugene Hall and Larry Hall, both of Liberal; two daughters, Elizabeth Daniels of Scott City and Marjorie Unruh of Larned; one brother, Leverne G. Eddy of Lindsborg; two sisters, Geneva R. Gray of Hobbs, N.M., and Florence Burris of Salina; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Donald Hall; one daughter, Sue Helfrich; four brothers, John L. Eddy, Ronald D. Eddy, Joe V. Eddy and Kenneth D. Eddy; one granddaughter, Rose Mary Hall Bush; and three great-grandchildren, Michael Vincent Dir, Allen Wayne Giles Virtz and Melanie Diane McBride. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned, with the Rev. Dan Lundgren officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday, all at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Fort Larned DAR Chapter or Good Samaritan Center, both in care of the mortuary. Feb. 19, 2002

Dr. Vinson W. Gleason 1919-2002
LARNED - Dr. Vinson W. Gleason, 82, died Feb. 16 at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital in Scottsdale, Ariz. He was born May 30, 1919, in Larned, the son of Dr. B.L. and Ora McRenolds Gleason. He married Elaine Gleason. A resident of Scottsdale, coming from Larned, he was a physician and surgeon at Gleason Hospital in Larned and had private practices in Great Bend and Hutchinson, before retiring to Scottsdale in 1984. Gleason was a member of Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran Church in Scottsdale. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Michael Gleason of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two daughters, Carmen Westacott of Portland, Ore., and Tina Smedley of Guthrie, Okla.; two stepsons, Mark Hull of Scottsdale and Kevin Hull of West Allis, Wis.; one sister, Jeanette Jones of San Diego, Calif.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Georgeanne Fagen; one brother, Bertle Gleason; and one sister, Rothale Duffy. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned, with the Rev. Bob Gleason officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Lutheran Hour Ministries or Methodist Youthville, both in care of the mortuary. Feb. 19, 2002

Barbara Ann Dellinger 1961-2002
LARNED - Barbara Ann Dellinger, 41, died Feb. 18 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born Jan. 6, 1961, in Dodge City, the daughter of Mentford Edwin "Del" and Mary Halena Robbins Dellinger. Her common-law husband is Danny S. Boman. A resident of Larned since 1970, coming from Dodge City, she was a bar tender for the American Legion in Larned. She was a member of Women's Bowling Association, Daughters of the American Legion Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars Association, all of Larned. Survivors include her common-law husband of the home; one son, Charles "Chuck" Segraves Jr.; her parents of Larned; two brothers, Donald Dellinger of Protection and Kenneth Dellinger of Larned; and one sister, Linda Poyner of Larned. She was preceded in death by one sister, Janet Kock. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Larned Cemetery, with Harold Dryden officiating. Friends may call until 8 tonight at Beckwith Mortuary in Larned. Memorials are suggested to Barbara Ann Dellinger Memorial Fund, in care of the mortuary. Feb. 20, 2002

Ethmer Slack 1925-2002
Ethmer Slack, 76, of Great Bend, died Feb. 18 in Wichita. He was born March 21, 1925, in Plover, Wis., the son of Robert Neil and Dorothea Meehan Slack. He married Gayle M. Murdock in Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend for 37 years, coming from Marlette, Mich., he was a truck driver for Mid America Feedyards and was formerly employed by Marlette Coach Company. Slack was a member of First Church of God, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3111, American Legion Post 180, Eagles Lodge, all of Great Bend and Cooties. He was a veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, Randy Slack and Daniel Slack, both of Great Bend, Robert Podorski and John Podorski, both of Ruby, Mich.; one step-son, Dirk Hopkins of Utica; three daughters, Jenny Sparkman of Vassar, Mich., Joanie Marie Pettway of Great Bend and Cheri Lynch of Evansville, Ky.; 26 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Debbie Hopkins; three brothers, Lawrence Slack, Keith Slack and Lamar Slack; and one sister, Hazel Slack. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the church, with the Revs. Dick Ogle and Tom Swain officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery in Great Bend, with full military graveside honors. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, all at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Jon Mart Larson 1947-2002
Jon Mart Larson, 55, of Great Bend, died Feb. 17 in Great Bend. He was born Feb. 15, 1947, in Great Bend, the son of Robert L. and Dorothy E. Pascoe Larson. A resident of Great Bend since 1999, coming from Austin, Texas, he was a computer analyst for Dell Computer, retiring in 1999. Larson was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Eagles Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, all of Great Bend. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors include one son, Robert Lars Larson of El Paso, Texas; two daughters, Chantelle Larson of El Paso and Kesha Dougan of Drexel, Mo.; his father of Great Bend; and five sisters, Jan Marie Todd and Jerri Dennett, both of Wichita, Lou Ann Cobb and Lynn Kaiser, both of Great Bend and JoLetta Woolwine of Kansas City. Vigil service followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday, both at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Angel Dy officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to American Legion Scholarship Fund or the church, both in care of the funeral home. Feb. 20, 2002

Rick A. Klema 1960-2002
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Rick A. Klema, 41, died Feb. 18 in Colorado Springs. He was born June 18, 1960, in Great Bend, the son of John A. and Edna J. Macek Klema. He married Verna J. Sanko Dec. 26, 1989, in Great Bend. A resident of Colorado Springs since 1994, coming from Haysville, he worked as a production technician for a computer company. Klema was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend. Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Becky Milsap of Washington, Mo.; his parents of Great Bend; two sisters, Judy Ochs and Carol Wiesner, both of Great Bend; his grandmother, Ethel Macek of Wilson; and one granddaughter. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Angel Dy officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery in Great Bend. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Paul Richard Reece 1946-2002
STOCKTON - Paul Richard Reece, 65, died Feb. 17 at Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg. He was born April 10, 1946, in Plainville, the son of Ocenus and Emmaline Baker Reece. He was a graduate of Plainville High School. He married Patricia Perry April 5, 1956, in Great Bend. She died July 11, 1999. A resident of Stockton, coming from Great Bend, he worked as a welder for Primus Sterilizer Company in Great Bend, retiring in 1998. Reece was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Survivors include one son, Richard Eugene Reece of Moss Point, Miss.; two daughters, Colleen Gray of Great Bend and Shawna Reece of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Martha Ann Reece of Kansas City; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ocenus Reece Jr. and Nathan Reece; and two sisters, Effie May Johnson and Jannett Cherry. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Myers Chapel AME Church in Great Bend, with the Rev. Loyse Clay officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, north of Great Bend. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. tonight, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, all at Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home in Stockton and from 11 a.m. until service time Friday, at the church. Stella M. Mounkes 1916-2002
EMPORIA - Stella M. Mounkes, 85, died Feb. 18 at Holiday Resort in Emporia. She was born Oct. 21, 1916, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Marija "Marie" Splihal Snyder. A resident of Emporia, she was a homemaker. Survivors include one son, William L. Mounkes of Emporia; one daughter, Doris Kay Spray of Great Bend; one brother, Elmer Snyder of Cedar Fall, Iowa; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald Snyder and Irvin Snyder; one sister, Sylvia Snyder Loftin; and one grandson, Dale Lynn Mounkes. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Charter Funerals/Emporia Chapel in Emporia, with the Rev. Brett Tagtmeyer officiating. Burial will be at Allen cemetery in Allen. Friends may call from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Friends of the Zoo or Hand in Hand Hospice, both in care of the funeral home. Feb. 20, 2002

Jean R. Roland 1920-2002
LA CROSSE - Jean R. Roland, 81, died Feb. 19 at Rush County Memorial Hospital. She was born Nov. 23, 1920, in Maudaha U.P., India, the daughter of Sterling G. and Zoena Sutton Rothermel. She was a 1968 graduate of Fort Hays State University in Hays and earned her LPN and RN degrees from Dodge City Community College and Barton County Community College. She married William H. Roland July 12, 1943, in Rockport, Ill. A resident of Rush county for more than 30 years, coming from Illinois, she worked as a missionary from 1947 to 1997 in India, doing Bible college work and establishing a leprosy program. She also worked at Rush County Memorial Hospital in La Crosse. Mrs. Roland was a member of First Christian Church in La Crosse. Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Charles W. Roland of Pasadena, Md., David L. Roland of Beason, Ill., and Paul S. Roland of Miami, Fla.; one daughter, Mary Esther Boonaerts of Opglabbeek, Belgium; eight grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Rothermel and Charles Rothermel. Funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Troy Schroeder officiating. Burial will be at Payson New cemetery in Payson, Ill. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Lakeview Bible College, in care of Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse. Loretta Kaiser 1915-2002
ELLSWORTH - Loretta Kaiser, 87, died Feb. 20 at Ellsworth County Medical Center in Ellsworth. She was born Jan. 7, 1915, north of Ellinwood, the daughter of Ed and Philomena Helfrich Achatz. She attended beauty school in Omaha, Neb. She married John F. Kaiser Oct. 21, 1946, in Ellinwood. He died Oct. 14, 1973. A resident of Ellsworth for the past six years, coming from Ellinwood, she was a retired hairdresser. Mrs. Kaiser was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella, Heritage Club and a Girl Scout leader, all of Ellinwood. She was a longtime volunteer and board member of Association of Retarded Citizens in Great Bend. Survivors include one son, James Kaiser of Ellsworth; two daughters, Ann Kaiser-Spears of Nashville, Tenn., and Kathryn Bailey of Ellsworth; and two grandsons. She was preceded in death by one sister, Lorraine Tomberlin. Altar Society rosary will be at 3 p.m. Friday, followed by a Daughters of Isabella rosary, both at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Dan Scheetz officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph's School Endowment, in care of the funeral home. Feb. 21, 2002

Pauline A. Langhofer 1913-2002
DORRANCE - Pauline A. Langhofer, 88, died Feb. 19 at Ellsworth County Medical Center. She was born Aug. 11, 1913, in Fairview, Okla., the daughter of Charlie and Rebecca Howard Seibel. She married Fred Langhofer in 1933 in Fairview. He died Nov. 20, 1989. A resident of Dorrance since 1933, coming from Oklahoma, she was a homemaker and clerk at Klima's IGA in Wilson. Mrs. Langhofer was a member of First Baptist Church in Wilson and Dorrance Homemakers Extension Homemakers Unit. Survivors include two sons, Dean Langhofer of Dorrance and Gene Langhofer of Geneseo; one daughter, Berdine Bishop of Fresno, Calif.; one brother, Melvin Seibel of Portland, Ore.; two sisters, Matilda Berndt of Portland and Juanita Hiebert of Shafter, Calif.; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Gene Langhofer officiating. Burial will be at Dorrance City cemetery in Dorrance. Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Foster Mortuary in Wilson and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Eva Dies Minks 1906-2002
DIGHTON - Eva Dies Minks, 95, died Feb. 17 at Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City. She was born July 5, 1906, at Lehigh, the daughter of Henry and Christina Bouda Dies. She married Leslie Ray Minks Sr. on July 13, 1924, at Selman, Okla. He died July 31, 1967. A resident of Scott City since 1991, coming from Dighton, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Minks was a member of the Lutheran faith, American Legion Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Survivors include two sons, Lee Roy Minks of Portis and Leslie Ray Minks Jr. of St. John; six daughters, Ida Florence Parker of Fairview, Okla., Eva May Thomas of Alamota, Hazel Ruth Sisco of Dighton, Ila Jean Head of Garden City, Christina Faye Fairbank of Cimarron and Mildred Dean Rand of Omaha, Ark.; 27 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Louis Vern Minks; one daughter, Leona Joy Minks; five brothers; seven sisters; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Dighton with the Revs. Mike Grogan and Kerry Grogan officiating. Burial will be at Dighton Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. tonight, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, all at Boomhower Funeral Home in Dighton.
