J. Howard Morse Jr. 1935-2002
LA CROSSE - J. Howard Morse, 67, died May 19 at La Crosse. He was born March 15, 1935, at La Crosse, the son of J. Howard and Edna Arlene Kraisinger Morse. He married Victoria Ajemian. She died in October 1983. He married Dianne on Aug. 28, 1987, in Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Rush County, he was a farmer. Morse was a member of United Methodist Church of La Crosse, past Master of the Masonic Lodge, member of Fort Hays Shrine Club, Jaycees and president of The EUB Trust. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, Wade A. Morse of La Crosse, Tim J. Morse of Rush Center, Clay H. Morse of Wichita and Darrin W. Hall of Joplin, Mo.; two daughters, Janine Ingle of Wichita and Desiree D. Rome of Victoria; one sister, Carole J. Jecha of Timken; and 12 grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Kathy Bannister officiating. Burial will be at La Crosse City Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-8 tonight at the church. The family will receive friends from 5:30-8 tonight. Memorials are suggested to J. Howard Morse Jr. Memorial Fund, in care of Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse. May 21, 2002

Bertha R. Krug 1908-2002
RUSSELL - Bertha R. Krug, 93, died May 20 at St. John Nursing Home in Victoria. She was born Sept. 22, 1908, near Milberger, the daughter of George and Emma Wegele Dumler. She married Alex Krug Jr. on July 28, 1936, at Russell. He died Jan. 4, 1985. A lifetime resident of Russell, she was a homemaker and served as an in-home caregiver. Mrs. Krug was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Russell. Survivors include one daughter, Mae Ralls of Evergreen, Colo.; and three brothers, Benjamin Dumler of Hoisington, Alvin Dumler and Victor Dumler, both of Russell. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul A. Dumler and Solomon Dumler; and one sister, Agnes Radke. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Donald P. Wichmann officiating. Burial will be at Russell City Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until noon Thursday, all at Pohlman's Mortuary in Russell, and from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the mortuary. May 21, 2002

Lydia G. Dreiling 1904-2002
LARNED -Lydia G. Dreiling, 97, died May 19 at Dignity Care in Salina. She was born Sept. 25, 1904, in Victoria, the daughter of Peter A. and Catherine Goetz Quint. She married Robert R. Dreiling on Feb. 7, 1985, at Victoria. A resident of Salina since 1989, coming from Larned, she was a teacher and sales clerk. Mrs. Dreiling was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a charter member of Altar Society, both of Larned; and Daughters of Isabella of Victoria. Survivors include one son, Oscar Dreiling of New Braunfels, Texas; one daughter, Jeanette Pieschl of Salina; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by seven brothers, John Quint, Leonard Quint, Peter H. Quint, Seraphine Quint, Peter A. Quint, Bernard Quint and James Quint; and four sisters, Mary, Theresa, Adolphine and Josephine. Vigil service will be at 7 tonight at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Dennis Reed officiating. Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at the mortuary. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Salina Hospice or the church, in care of the funeral home. May 21, 2002

Dorothy L. Wedge 1915-2002
LARNED - Dorothy L. Wedge, 87, died May 20 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Larned. She was born March 13, 1915, at Larned, the daughter of Albert "Bert" Nelson and Lola Yoder Wedge. She was a 1932 graduate of Larned High School. A lifetime resident of Larned, she retired in 1977 as a telephone operator for AT&T and Southwestern Bell for both Great Bend and Larned. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Ft. Larned Historical Society, both of Larned; and Great Bend chapter of Telephone Pioneers of America. Survivors include one nephew, Dan Fox of San Diego, Calif.; and one great-nephew, Dan R. Fox of San Diego. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Wedge and Ferne Fox. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Larned cemetery with the Rev. Jim Hawthorne officiating. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home. May 21, 2002

Angelina 'Angie' M. Kraisinger 1938-2002
TIMKEN - Angelina "Angie" M. Kraisinger, 64, died May 18 at Hays Medical Center in Hays. She was born April 18, 1938, in rural Barton County, the daughter of William M. and Helen Kittel Krmela. She married Robert L. Kraisinger on April 23, 1958, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Olmitz. A lifetime resident of Rush County, she was a dietary aide in the health care profession and received a 20 year service pin from Rush County Memorial Hospital in La Crosse. Mrs. Kraisinger was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and past member of Holy Trinity Altar Society, both of Timken. She was a member of Eagles Women's Auxiliary of Great Bend. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Richard D. Kraisinger of Otis; one daughter, Rhonda L. Brown of Garfield; three sisters, Lorraine Serpan of Timken, Peggy Olson of Russell and Jane Behr of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Krmela. Prayer service and Altar Society rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Ultan Murphy officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross cemetery in Timken. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Rush County Memorial Hospital Cancer Fund, in care of the funeral home. May 20, 2002

Milton Ralph Rusco 1909-2002
ST. JOHN - Milton Ralph Rusco, 93, died May 19 at Stafford District Hospital. He was born May 9, 1909, in rural Hudson, the son of Archibald Henry and Margaret Helen Zimmeht Rusco. He was a 1928 graduate of Hudson High School. He married Eleanor Jean Hahn on Oct. 12, 1941, at Great Bend. A lifetime resident of St. John, he was a farmer and past distributor for Oil Burning Furnaces. Rusco was a member of First United Methodist Church in St. John, had a private pilot's license and was a member of Flying Farmers Association. Survivors include his wife of the home; five daughters, Jean Harrison of St. John, Leah Chadd of Macksville, Angela Johnson of Minneola, Anita Hatton of Kansas City and Mary Kathleen Sizer of Renton, Wash.; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Dan Rusco; one brother, Ray Rusco; and two sisters, Helen Walter and Mildred Krug. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Minnis Chapel in St. John with the Rev. W. Harlan Rittgers officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park cemetery in St. John. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church or Southwind Hospice, both in care of the funeral home. May 20, 2002

Kenneth Dale Springer 1924-2002
OFFERLE - Kenneth Dale Springer, 77, died May 19 at his residence in Offerle. He was born June 17, 1924, at Arkansas City, the son of William and Amy Azumbla Stegall Springer. He was a 1947 graduate of Osawatomie High School. He married Thelma Maxine Stone in 1947 at Osawatomie. A resident of Offerle since 1969, coming from Great Bend and Osawatomie, he retired after 35 years of service for Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America. Springer was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Offerle and served as church elder for one year and head elder for five years. He was also a member of Osawatomie High School Alumni Association. He was a veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Michael Wayne Springer of Dodge City, Terry Lee Springer of Omaha, Neb., and Jerry Dee Springer of Lewis; two daughters, Linda Sue DeBey of Cawker City and Nancy Lynn Kregar of Offerle; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one brother and two granddaughters. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Revs. Randall Jahnke and David Parks officiating. Burial will be at Zion Lutheran cemetery in Offerle. Friends may call from 5-8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, all at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home. May 20, 2002

Samuel 'Sam' Osborne 1935-2002
Samuel "Sam" Osborne, 66, of Great Bend, died May 7 at his residence. He was born Sept. 20, 1935, at Beaver City, Okla., the son of Louis and Bernice Davis Osborne. He married Sharon A. Navarro on Oct. 9, 1988, in Mexico. He was a graduate of Great Bend High School. A resident of Great Bend, he was a former teacher, former owner of Arthur Murray Dance Studios and the retired owner of Sam's Mexican Restaurant. Osborne was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Great Bend. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Jim Osborne of Columbus, Miss.; one stepson, Pete Vieyra of Wichita; two stepdaughters, Suzanne Vieyra of Hays and Debra Astle of St. John; one brother, Jim Osborne of Grove, Okla.; two grandchildren; and seven step grandchildren. Funeral service has taken place. Memorials are suggested to Samuel Lynn Osborne Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. May 19, 2002

Carmen L. Dayton 1928-2002
Carmen L. Dayton, 74, of Great Bend, died May 16 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. She was born Jan. 17, 1928, at Oakwood, Okla., the daughter of Elmer and Jennie Harris Addis. She married Glen G. Dayton on Aug. 18, 1946, at Whitefish, Mont. A resident of Great Bend since 1995, coming from Lyons, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Dayton was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Great Bend, Quilt Guild and Honor Society at East High School of Wichita. Survivors include her husband of Great Bend; two sons, Norman L. Dayton of Hoisington and William "Bill" Dayton of Great Bend; two daughters, Lily Mehl of Bristow, Va., and Laura Ragon of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one brother, John Addis of Sikeston, Mo.; one sister, Eileen Schmidt of Lyons; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Norman Addis; and one sister, Dora Chase. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Revs. Mark Pennington and David Belzer officiating. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Lyons Municipal cemetery in Lyons. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Monday at Fryberger Mortuary in Great Bend, with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the church music fund, in care of the funeral home. May 19, 2002

Elwood L. Sellens 1921-2002
ST. JOHN - Elwood L. Sellens, 81, died May 17 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born May 10, 1921, in Russell County, the son of Chester C. and Dorothy E. Sellens. He married Bertha Ehrlich Dec. 25, 1941, in Russell. A recent resident of Wichita, coming from St. John, Kingman, Russell, Beloit and Hill City, he was a retired police chief, serving 21 years in law enforcement. Sellens was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Great Bend, American Legion William Roe Post 99 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6240, both of Russell, and served on several church boards. He was an U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving from 1943-1945. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Darrel D. Sellens of Wichita; one daughter, Dalene Lauderdale of North Little Rock, Ark.; one brother, Melvin Sellens of Wichita; two sisters, Melba Jean Cochran of Colwich and Maxine Goodheart of Russell; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Anita Wagner; and two brothers, Charles Quentin Sellens and Glen Dale Sellens. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Garry Dassow officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Russell City Cemetery. Friends may call today at Minnis Chapel in St. John. JaNeva June Hart 1935-2002
DOWNS - JaNeva June Hart, 67, died May 15 at her residence in Downs. She was born March 26, 1935, at Hoisington. A resident of Downs, she was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband of the home, James Hart; one stepson, Phillip Downs of Hart; two stepdaughters, Belinda Thull of Pagosa Springs, Colo., and Julie Haden of Salina; one brother, Bill Bortz of Downs; three sisters, JaNelda Bodnarchuk of Davie, Fla., Jane McKemey of Russellville, Ark., and Zoe Ann Goheen of Downs; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Elmer LeRoy Bortz. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Downs United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Downs Cemetery. Jack B. Kurtz 1927-2002
LAKEPORT, Calif. - Jack B. Kurtz, 74, died May 13 at Napa, Calif. He was born Aug. 7, 1927, at Fellows, Calif. A Lake County, Calif., resident for 30 years, he was a technician for the Presidio of Monterey for 12 years and the manager of Perks Mobile Home Park in Lakeport. Kurtz was a member of Sonrise Assembly Church in Lucerne, Calif. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Alice, of the home; one son, Larry P. Kurtz of Great Bend; one daughter, Jackie I. Kurtz of Bakersfield, Calif.; two stepsons, Mike Cope and John Cope, both of Stevinson, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Anne Large of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Pat Blair of Oxnard, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one stepson, Kenneth E. Miller; four brothers; and four sisters. Memorial services were held. Memorials are suggested to the church or donor's choice, in care of Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary of Lakeport. May 16, 2002

John F. Gant 1925-2002
WICHITA - John F. Gant, 77, died May 14. He was born April 17, 1925, the son of John M. and Sybilla Freisberg Gant. He was a retired teacher. Survivors include one daughter, Rachelle Widener of Ellinwood; two brothers, Robert Gant of Petrolia and William Gant of Tipton, Mo.; four sisters, Marie Schoonmaker of New Hartford, Conn., Wanita Bonanno of Annandale, Va., Margaret Bestgen of Tipton, and Mary Matkin of Arcadia, Mo.; and two grandchildren. Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Jude Catholic Church in Wichita. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Lakin Commanche cemetery in Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary in Wichita. May 16, 2002
