Elton Lawrence Kuhlman 1914-2002
Elton Lawrence Kuhlman, 88, of Great Bend, died June 22 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born May 29, 1914, at Lydia, the son of August and Clara Preusch Kuhlman. He married Mary Esther Whitaker on July 14, 1935, at Garden City. A resident of Great Bend for 60 years, coming from Wichita, he was an insurance and securities agent. Kuhlman was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge AF & AM No. 15, Golden Belt Country Club and past president of Great Bend Lions Club, all of Great Bend. He was also a member of Scottish Rite of Southern Jurisdiction of Valley of Salina. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Keith and Carol Kuhlman of Wichita, Ken and Judy Kuhlman of Stevensville, Mich., and Jim Kuhlman of Great Bend; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Hal Staats officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home. June 24, 2002

Sister Celestine Henning OP 1915-2002
QUEENS, N.Y. - Sister Celestine Henning, 86, died June 23 at Queens, N.Y. She was born Florence Rose Henning on June 28, 1915, at Willowdale, the daughter of Nick and Katie Marx Henning. She entered the Dominican Sisters' Community on July 13, 1930, and pronounced her first vows on Aug. 17, 1933. Sr. Henning ministered most of her life in domestic work in the community's missions and hospitals. She also ministered in the convent sewing room, in home health and reflexology and as an assistant gardener on the convent grounds. She was in the 68th year of her religious profession. Survivors include one brother, George Henning of Spivey; and one sister, Sister Romana Henning of Great Bend. Wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dominican Chapel of the Plains in Great Bend. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel. The body will be brought to the hospitality area of the chapel at 4 p.m. Tuesday, where it will lie in state. Burial will be at Sisters' Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesday at the convent. Memorials are suggested to Dominican Sisters Mission and Ministry Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. June 24, 2002

Marie Emma Bieber 1902-2002
Marie Emma Bieber, 99, of Great Bend, died June 21 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. She was born Aug. 1, 1902, at Garden Plain, the daughter of George and Sophia Meta Elling Beltz. She married George Gilbert Bieber on Sept. 20, 1927, at Lyons. He died May 23, 1975. A resident of Great Bend since 1997, coming from Bazine, where she had lived since 1910, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Bieber was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Lutheran Women's Missionary League and Golden Years Club, all of Bazine. Survivors include two sons, Albert Leroy Bieber of Overland Park and Joel Gilbert Bieber of Guthrie, Okla.; one daughter, Delores Irene Grose of Great Bend; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Wilfred Elton Bieber; eight brothers, Bill Beltz, George Beltz, Albert Beltz, Herman Beltz, Fred Beltz, Henry Beltz, Ernest Beltz and infant John Beltz; and two sisters, Lizzie Schmidt and Martha Beltz. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Webster officiating. Burial will be at Bazine Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 tonight at Fitzgerald Funeral Home in Ness City, and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to The Lutheran Hour or Bazine EMT, both in care of the funeral home. June 24, 2002

Margaret E. Scott 1914-2002
GROVE, OKLA. - Margaret E. Scott, 88, died June 20. She was born April 18, 1914 at Cowley Co., the daughter of Elmer and Maggie Smith. She was a 1932 graduate of Latham High School. She married Hoyt Scott, May 10, 1937 at Cowley Co. He died March 15, 1992. A resident of Grove, coming from Raymond and Winfield, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Scott was a member of First Baptist Church of Winfield. Survivors include one son, Jerry Scott of Dallas, Texas; one daughter, Sharon Milsap of Grove; one sister, Helen Long of Alva, Okla.; three grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church in Winfield. Burial will be at St. Mary's cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Monday at the Swisher-Taylor and Morris Funeral Home in Winfield. Memorials are suggested to the church or Good Shepard Hospice in Grove both in care of the funeral home. June 23, 2002

Dorothy Buss Westmacott 1918-2002
DODGE CITY - Dorothy Buss Westmacott, 83, died June 20. She was born Nov. 30, 1918 at Ellinwood, the daughter of Wes and Emma Kahler Buss. She married James R. Westmacott. He died in 1972. A resident of Dodge City, coming from Salina, she was a homemaker. Survivors include one stepson, John Westmacott of Dodge City, and three grandchildren. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Church of Christ cemetery in Holyrood. Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. today at Ryan Mortuary in Salina. Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Center Apartments in Dodge City in care of the mortuary. June 23, 2002

Simon Bollig 1916-2002
ELLIS - Simon Bollig, 85, died June 20 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays. He was born June 22, 1916, at Ellis, the son of Jacob P. and Eva Spies Bollig. He married Mary Kuhn July 31, 1939, at Ellis. A resident of Ellis, he was a farmer and rancher. Bollig was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis, former member of the Ellis Saddle Club, and American Quarter Horse Association. Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Rosetta Deutscher of Hays; two brothers, Richard Bollig of Great Bend, and Gilbert Bollig of Clayton; two sisters, Mary Reinert of Denver, Colo., and Georgine Windholz of Thornton, Colo.; two grandsons; and four great grandsons. he was preceded in death by two brothers, Theodore "Buddy' Bollig, and Daniel Bollig. Vigil will be at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Revs. Kevin Weber and Galen Long officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church or Junior Free Fair in Ellis both in care of the funeral home. Bertha Marie Manley 1926-2002
LARNED - Bertha Marie Manley, 75, died June 20 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Larned. She was born Aug. 28, 1926, at Topeka, the daughter of Quincy A. and Mabel Maye Todd Hartzell. She married Francis C. Manley, June 3, 1946 at Topeka. A long time resident of Larned, she was a retired Licensed Mental Health Technician for the Larned State Hospital Youth Center and an Avon Consultant. Mrs. Manley was a member of Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include two sons, Martin Allen Manley of Overland Park, and Michael Gene Manley of El Paso, Texas; one daughter, Barbie Jolene Marrs of Topeka; and two step grandchildren. Memorial service was held Saturday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned, with the Rev. Rick Clark officiating. Memorials are suggested to the church or the Larned High School Scholarship Fund both in care of the funeral home. June 23, 2002

Margaret Mary 'Peggy' Hass 1936-2002
LYONS - Margaret Mary "Peggy" Hass, 66, died June 21 at Hutchinson Hospital in Hutchinson. She was born June 5, 1936 at Lyons, the daughter of Oscar and Ethal Hedges Laudick. She was a 1954 graduate of Lyons High School and attended Barton County Community College. She married Kenneth V. Hass, April 25, 1955 at Lyons. A lifetime resident of Lyons, she was a homemaker, owner of Law's Office Supply, and former employee of Hollinger Antiques. Mrs. Hass was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church; current President of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Treasurer and board member of Friendship Meals, board of directors of Friends of Animals, Thrift Shop Volunteer, and Lyons Community Theater all of Lyons, and American Legion Auxiliary of Geneseo. Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, K. Joseph Hass of Albuquerque, N.M., and Chris J. Hass of Lyons; one daughter, Christine Conner of Independence; two brothers, Jack Laudick, and Mike Laudick both of Lyons; three sisters, Joanne Arie, Ellen Hawkins both of Lyons, and Pat Baker of Hutchinson; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Cecilia Hass Dietzschold; and one brother, Robert Laudick. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Thomas Leland officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal cemetery in Lyons. Friends may call from 2-6:30 p.m. Monday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons, and from 6:30-8 p.m. at the church. Memorials are suggested to Friends of Animals, Bell and Star Fund, and Lyons Public Library all in care of the funeral home. June 23, 2002

Tamie Renea Davis 1959-2002
TOPEKA - Tamie R. Davis, 43, died June 3 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka after a sudden illness. She was born May 8, 1959, at Dodge City, the daughter of Jim and Jean Robbins Davis. She attended high school in Haven. A resident of Topeka, coming from Oklahoma, she worked in the lodging industry in several cities in Kansas and Oklahoma. Survivors include one son, Brandon Bruner of Wyoming; her parents of Forsyth, Mo.; and two brothers, Mike Davis of Wichita and Mark Davis of Castle Rock, Colo. A private family service was held in Topeka. Cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to Halstead Emergency Medical Services, 303 N. Main, Halstead. Parker-Price Mortuary of Topeka was in charge of arrangements. June 20, 2002

Ray V. Cromwell 1913-2002
HOISINGTON - Ray V. Cromwell, 89, died June 20 at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Wichita. He was born March 28, 1913, at Hope, the son of Denver Newton and Ettie Stephenson Cromwell. He married Opal Thatcher on April 15, 1944, at La Junta, Colo. A lifetime resident of Hoisington, he was a farmer and ran a maintainer for the South Homestead Township in Barton County. Cromwell was a member of American Legion Post 286 in Hoisington. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, having served in World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Cecil Cromwell of Clay Center and James Cromwell of Ponca City, Okla.; three daughters, Pat Miller of Topeka, Sandy Cromwell and Betty Chism, both of Great Bend; one sister, Lenora Donovan of Hoisington; special friend, Otha Robinson of Great Bend; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Karon Embry; three brothers, Myrl Cromwell, Ira Cromwell and Oscar Cromwell; and two sisters, Alpha Morrison and Alice Donovan. A private family service will be held. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be at Hoisington Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home of Hoisington. June 20, 2002

August M. 'Slim' Klusener 1920-2002
August M. "Slim" Klusener, 82, died June 19 at his residence in Great Bend. He was born May 19, 1920, at Dubuque, the son of Edward E. and Mary Feltes Klusener. He married Lois D. Orr on Sept. 21, 1947, at Great Bend. She died Oct. 20, 1995. A resident of Great Bend since 1946, coming from Dubuque, he was a carpenter, bricklayer and custodian for USD 428, working at Roosevelt Junior High School. Klusener attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend. He was a U.S. Army and Air Corps veteran, having served during World War II. Survivors include two sons, Curtis Klusener and Tim Klusener, both of Great Bend; three daughters, Mary Riemann and Kathi Heine, both of Great Bend, and Vicki Kasselman of Colorado; one brother, Leonard Klusener of Great Bend; four sisters, Christina Klusener, Bernadine Homolka and Delores Steuri, all of Great Bend, and Mildred Pridaux of Waynesville, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend with the Revs. Dick Ogle and Tom Swain officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from noon until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Elder Care or Arthritis Foundation, in care of the funeral home. June 20, 2002

Emil August Haberman 1909-2002
LARNED - Emil August Haberman, 92, died June 19 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Larned. He was born June 20, 1909, at Olmitz, the son of Joseph and Mary Weiser Haberman. He married Hulda Ruth Boese on Dec. 3, 1933, at Pratt. A resident of Larned since 1934, he was a custodian for Pawnee County Courthouse for 36 years. Haberman was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Larned. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Roger Haberman of Salina, Bob Haberman of Meade and Don Haberman of Lacey, Wash.; one daughter, Betty Hulsey of Larned; one sister, Frances Gasser of Larned; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Frank Haberman, Leo Haberman, Joe Haberman, Antone Haberman, Julius Haberman and Henry Haberman; three sisters, Mary Kevan, Amilia Gumbir and Helen Boyd; one grandchild, Don Hulsey; and one great-grandchild, Matthew Hulsey. Parish vigil will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Dennis Reed officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Friends may call from noon until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to donor's choice, in care of the funeral home. June 20, 2002

Lester L. Hildebrand 1922-2002
STAFFORD - Lester L. Hildebrand, 79, died June 16 at his residence in Stafford. He was born Nov. 11, 1922, at Stafford, the son of Louis and Dena Burhenn Hildebrand. He married Wilma Jeane Vice on Sept. 9, 1945, at Stafford. She died May 3, 1985. A lifetime resident of Stafford, he was a farmer and carpenter. Hildebrand was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Stafford, Elks Lodge of Pratt and past member of Stafford Co-op Board of Directors. Survivors include two daughters, Gretchen Newell of Kernersville, N.C., and Dee Anna McCune of Leawood; two sisters, Minnie Haney of Sterling and Hulda Kruse of Great Bend; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward Hildebrand, Clarence Hildebrand and Walter Hildebrand; and one granddaughter. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Minnis Chapel in Stafford, with Carl Feril officiating. Burial will be at Stafford Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Friday at the chapel. Memorials are suggested to Larabee Library, in care of the chapel. June 20, 2002
