Gwenneth Praeger Harwood 1922-2002
LAWRENCE - Gwenneth Praeger Harwood, 80, died Nov. 12 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was born May 30, 1922, at Claflin, the daughter of Herman A. and Edna Gertrude Grizzell Praeger. She was a 1944 graduate of Kansas State University, with a B.S. degree in microbiology. She married W. Elden Harwood on Oct. 31, 1949, at Claflin. A resident of Lawrence since 1965, coming from Great Bend, she was a lab technician at St. Luke's Hospital. Mrs. Harwood was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, Alpha Delta Pi Social Sorority, former Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader and PTA member. Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Duncan E. Harwood of Dallas, Texas, and Mark W. Harwood of Lawrence; three daughters, Charlotte Lawrenz-Wells, Gwenneth "Junior" Wedd and Molly A. Harwood, all of Lawrence; one brother, Kenneth Praeger of Claflin; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 tonight at Warren-McElwain Mortuary of Lawrence. Memorials are suggested to Multiple Sclerosis Society (Eastern Kansas Chapter), in care of the mortuary. Nov. 14, 2002

Kathleen 'Kate' Redburn 1921-2002
DODGE CITY - Kathleen "Kate" Redburn, 81, died Nov. 11 at Wesley Medical Center. She was born July 31, 1921, at Spearville, the daughter of William Bernard and Anne Frances Tully Fleming. She was a graduate of Dodge City High School and Dodge City Community College. She married Walt Redburn on Jan. 31, 1953, at Dodge City. A resident of Dodge City since 1939, coming from Spearville, she was a homemaker and bookkeeper for Fergerson's Furniture and Appliance Co., of Dodge City for 28 years until her retirement in 1991. Mrs. Redburn was a member of Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, former member of Sacred Heart Cathedral, Daughters of Isabella and Altar Society, all of Dodge City. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Dennis Redburn of Great Bend; two daughters, Sara Smith and Mary Zielke, both of Dodge City; two brothers, Gene Fleming of Ulysses and Larry Fleming of Copeland; two sisters, Marcella Weide of Great Bend and Ermalee Newby of Garden City; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters. Daughters of Isabella Rosary will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel of Dodge City. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Cathedral of Dodge City with the Rev. Ted A. Skalsky officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove cemetery of Dodge City. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Friday at the chapel. Memorials are suggested to Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe or Sacred Heart School Endowment Fund, both in care of the chapel. Nov. 14, 2002

John Frederick 'Fritz' Stoskopf Sr. 1914-2002
John Frederick "Fritz" Stoskopf Sr., 88, of Great Bend, died Nov. 12 at his residence. He was born June 26, 1914, at Hoisington. He attended Hoisington High School, Kansas State University and graduated from Washburn University Law School. He married Keeta Elizabeth Strong on Aug. 31, 1938, at Hoisington. A resident of Great Bend, he was a farmer, lawyer, oil producer, real estate agent and owned a travel agency. Stoskopf was a member of United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks Club, American Legion, Rotary Club and Petroleum Club. He was called to active duty with the U.S. Army on Nov. 15, 1941. He served as the Criminal Investigation Director in China while serving in the China, Burma and India Theater. His military decorations and citations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, American Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He separated from the army on May 12, 1946, as a Lieutenant Colonel. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, John Fred Stoskopf of Mandan, N.D.; two daughters, Linda Dian Stoskopf of Alexandria, Va., and Martha Gail Good of Topeka; one grandson; and three granddaughters. Private family graveside service will be Friday at Leavenworth National Cemetery, with full military honors. Memorials are suggested to Mayo Clinic Research Department, in care of Davis Funeral Home of Leavenworth. Nov. 14, 2002

Clarence F. Giebler 1921-2002
HAYS - Clarence F. Giebler, 81, died Nov. 12 at his residence in Hays. He was born March 11, 1921, at Ellis, the son of Jacob J. and Clara Bieker Giebler. He was a graduate of Ellis High School. He married Mildred Brungardt on May 27, 1948, at Hays. A resident of Hays, he was a brick and stone mason for 32 years and a custodian for TMP-Marian High School and James Motor Company, both of Hays. Giebler was a member of St. Joseph's Church, St. Joseph's Council of the Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, all of Hays. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Clarence Giebler Jr. of St. Louis, Mo.; three daughters, Sharon Martinez of Oakland, Calif., Karen Pfeifer of St. Louis and Jolene Basgall of Topeka; one brother, John Giebler of Hays; three sisters, Georgine Bedore of Lakewood, Colo., Josephine Fisher of Hays and Albertine McDevitt of Lincoln, Neb.; and six grandchildren. Parish vigil, followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Brock's North Hill Chapel of Hays. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Revs. Earl Befort and William Miller officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery of Hays with military honors provided by Hays VFW. Friends may call from 6-8 tonight, from 2-8 p.m. Friday and 8:30-9:45 a.m. Saturday, all at the funeral home. Nov. 14, 2002

Melvin G. 'Bennie' Davis 1922-2002
BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. - Melvin G. "Bennie" Davis, 80, died Nov. 12 at his residence in Bullhead City. He was born June 8, 1922, at Admire, the son of Albert E. and Myrtle Ethel Temple Davis. He attended schools in Emporia and Lyon County. He married Nadine Temple on June 16, 1946, at Mitchell. A resident of Bullhead City since 1982, coming from Ellinwood, he was employed in the oil production industry for 30 years until his retirement in 1974. Davis was a member of BPOE since 1972 and Good Sam Club since 1974. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Richard M. Davis of Grand Island, Neb., and Harold R. Davis of Towanda; four sisters, Gladys Gavin of Emporia, Dorothy Lynch of Bella Vista, Calif., Rose Marie Longshore of Mesa, Ariz., and Virginia Bible of Topeka; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Russell Davis; and two sisters, Betty Morrison and Ethelbert Schwintz. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kimple Funeral Chapel of Ellinwood with the Rev. Larry Young officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District cemetery of Ellinwood. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until service time Saturday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Ellinwood Fire Department and Ambulance Fund, in care of the funeral home. Nov. 14, 2002

Thelma M. Harris 1911-2002
ABILENE, Texas - Thelma M. Harris, 91, died Nov. 11 at a care center in Abilene. She was born March 5, 1911, at Great Bend, the daughter of John Melvin and Estella Pearl Ward Foreman. She married John Francis Harris on Dec. 16, 1929, at Great Bend. He died in 1961. A resident of Abilene since 1988, coming from Wichita Falls, Texas, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Harris was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ of Abilene. She was a devoted Bible scholar and a positive Christian influence on her family and friends. Survivors include two sons, Robert E. Harris and wife Sandra of Hutchinson, and Roger L. Harris and wife Magda of Abilene; one daughter, Rita G. Hickey and fiancé, Keith Morgan of Abilene; one sister, Merle Risley of Hutchinson; seven grandchildren, Dan Harris of Flower Mound, Texas, Kim Horsch of Andale, Shelly Watson of Hutchinson, Suzanne Trayler of Stratford, Texas, Sharon Fuston of Rogers, Ark., Gretchen Bontke and Jon Harris, both of Abilene; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Jeff Hickey, in 1955. Funeral service was today at the church with the Revs. Carl Davis, Harold Loble and Keith Morgan officiating. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Great Bend cemetery with the Revs. Richard Foster and Keith Morgan officiating. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home of Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to Zambia Mission Fund in care of Hillcrest Church of Christ, 350 E. Ambler, Abilene, TX 79601, or Africa International Mission, Roger Dickson, in care of Eastwood Church of Christ, 2500 N. Plum, Hutchinson, KS 67502. Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home of Abilene is in charge of arrangements, with Bryant Funeral Home of Great Bend handling local arrangements. Nov. 13, 2002

Bobbie Kay Oberle 1940-2002
MANHATTAN - Bobbie Kay Oberle, 62, died Nov. 12 at Stoneybrook Retirement Community of Manhattan. She was born May 31, 1940, at Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Robert M. and Catherine Wendel Birzer. She married Jerome Oberle on April 7, 1959, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Ellinwood. A resident of Manhattan since 1963, she was office manager for Riley County Farm Bureau Insurance office. Mrs. Oberle was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Seven Dolors Altar Society and Riley County Farm Bureau. Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Kimberly Sue Oberle of Overland Park and Deidre Kay Oberle McEllhiney of Shawnee; her mother of Ellinwood; one brother, Joseph Birzer of Harper; two sisters, Judy Komarek of Ellinwood and Sandra Choitz of Wichita; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Donna Jones. Christian Wake and Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home of Manhattan. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with the Revs. Lawrence Grennan and Michael Elanjimattathil officiating. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic cemetery of Bushton. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association or Manhattan Catholic Schools, both in care of the funeral home. Nov. 13, 2002

Joy Warren Thompson 1915-2002
STAFFORD - Joy Warren Thompson, 87, died Nov. 10 at Stafford District Hospital. He was born Sept. 12, 1915, at Stafford, the son of Franklin C. and Emma Weide Thompson. He married Helena E. Hogg on June 29, 1941, at Olathe. She died Jan. 5, 1993. A resident of Stafford, he opened a RCA sales and service business in 1934. Thompson was a member of Stafford Masonic Lodge 252, Stafford Order of the Eastern Star Lodge Vashti Chapter 64, Refrigeration Service Engineers Society, Cushman Club, H.H. Franklin Club, Liberator Club and Fleet Reserve Association. He was president of both Gold Crown Lanes Inc., and Consumers Finance Inc., and vice president of COMCO Inc. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 0058 of Topeka. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II as an ATC chief petty officer. Survivors include two nephews, Robert Thompson of Chicago and Roger Wyatt of Seal Beach, Calif.; and one niece, Betty Jane Lagerquist of Chicago. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Stafford cemetery with military honors provided by Fort Riley. Friends may call from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Minnis Chapel of Stafford. Memorials are suggested to Stafford District Hospital, in care of the chapel. Nov. 13, 2002

Jennie Kummer 1912-2002
Jennie Kummer, 90 of Great Bend, died Nov. 11 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. She was born March 4, 1912, the daughter of Henry and Katherine Krier Schartz. She married Walter H. Kummer on Oct. 21, 1933, at Ellinwood. He died Aug. 26, 1978. She married William C. "Bill" Johannes on April 7, 1984, at Great Bend. He died March 23, 1986. A resident of Great Bend, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Kummer was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, St. Rose Altar Society and Garden Club, all of Great Bend. Survivors include one son, Tom Kummer of Great Bend; one daughter, Kathleen Lutz of Great Bend; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Altar Society Rosary will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Angel Dy officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 pm. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church or Barton County Community College Scholarship Fund, in care of the funeral home. Nov. 12, 2002

Norman Lee Bollinger 1930-2002
UTICA - Norman Lee Bollinger, 72, died Nov. 10 at his home in Utica. He was born May 31, 1930, in Larabee Township in Gove County, the son of Simon and Lorlie Link Bollinger. He married Mae Christiansen on Dec. 13, 1958, in Great Bend. A resident of the Utica community since 1962, he was a farmer and stockman. Bollinger was a member of United Methodist Church in Utica and American Legion of Great Bend. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, David Hill of Ransom and Lee Allen Bollinger of Utica; one sister, Theda Beau of Little Elm, Texas; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn Babcock. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Revs. Bruce Ferguson and Sandy Ferguson officiating. Burial will be at Utica cemetery with military graveside honors by McKinstry-Jones American Legion Post 380 of Utica, assisted by Sons of American Legion Squadron of Utica. Friends may call until 9 tonight at Fitzgerald Funeral Home in Ness City and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church or donors' choice, in care of the funeral home. Nov. 12, 2002

Caeleb D. Clark 2002-2002
LARNED - Caeleb D. Clark, infant, died Nov. 10 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was the son of Jeff Alan and Stephanie May Bartlett Clark. Survivors include his parents of Larned; maternal grandparents, David and Sandy Moore of Larned; paternal grandparent, Shirley Clark of Larned; and great-grandparents, Joyce Metz and La Von Metz, both of Stafford. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Larned cemetery with the Rev. Johnny Augmon officiating. Memorials are suggested to Caeleb D. Clark Memorial, in care of Beckwith Mortuary of Larned. Arnold L. Deines 1918-2002
SALINA - Arnold L. Deines, 84, died Nov. 6 at Shalimar Health Center of Salina. He was born July 1, 1918, at Galatia, the son of William and Pauline Whitman Deines. He was a 1937 graduate of Russell High School. He married Corkie Henderson on July 28, 1943, in Long Beach, Calif. She died Nov. 21, 2001. A resident of Salina since 1945, he was a flour miller and then a carpenter for Bob Snell Construction, retiring from full-time work in 1973. Deines was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving as a flight instructor during World War II. He joined the Air Force Reserves in 1948, retiring in 1978 with the rank of lieutenant colonel. Survivors include one daughter, Polly Mahoney of Spring Hill; and two granddaughters. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin Deines and John Deines; and three sisters, Hannah Nichols, Rachael Claussen and Elsa Steinert. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. today at Fort Riley. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Salina, in care of Ryan Mortuary of Salina. Nov. 12, 2002
