Stacy Jim Engleman, 47, of Great Bend, died March 10 at Pawnee Rock State Park. He was born Aug. 23, 1955, at Great Bend, the son of Edmond James and Patricia Lynn Wright Engleman. He married Jill Renee Yost Feb. 17, 1989, in Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was employed by McDonald Tank Service. Survivors include his wife of Great Bend; two sons, Brett Engleman and Brandon Engleman, both of Great Bend; one daughter, Ami Engleman of Kansas City; his mother and stepfather, Patricia and Hugh Mauch of Great Bend; his father and stepmother, Jim and Janet Engleman of Great Bend; one brother, Greg Engleman of Kansas City; one sister, Jennifer Anderson of Sammamish, Wash.; one stepbrother, William Mauch of Salina; and three step-sisters, Susan Wietharn of Topeka, LeeAnn Armstrong of Kansas City and Kathie Keller of Great Bend. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bryant Funeral Home with the Rev. James A. Strasen officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to service time Friday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to donor’s choice, all in care of the funeral home. March 13, 2003

La Velle Berneice Ellison 1917-2003
La Velle Berneice Ellison, 85, of Great Bend, died March 11 at Bellevue Health Center in Oklahoma City, Okla. She was born July 28, 1917, at South Haven, the daughter of Alpha Pearl and Luanna Lee Howk. She married Robert Isaac Ellison Sept. 20, 1939, at Newkirk, Okla. He died Nov. 8, 1969. A resident of Great Bend for more than 50 years, coming from Russell, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Ellison was a member of First Christian Church, Fraternal Order of the Eagles and Barton County Historical Society, all of Great Bend; a 57-year member of Order of the Eastern Star, South Haven chapter, and other local civic organizations. Survivors include one sister, Deloit Brewer of Blackwell, Okla. She was preceded in death by one son, Bobby Lee Ellison; five brothers, Paul Howk, Gerald Howk, Harold Howk, Keith Howk and John Howk; and three sisters, Mrs. Ottis Erwin, Mrs. Ruby Johnston and Mrs. De Veda Westbrook. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park north of Great Bend. Friends may call until 9 tonight at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend and from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home. March 13, 2003

Sandra Ann Trinka Richardson 1958-2003
EUREKA — Sandra Ann Trinka Richardson, 44, died March 11 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. She was born Dec. 4, 1958, at Chilton, Wis., the daughter of Norman Wesley and Gertrude Ida Riesterer Trinka. She married Corby Richardson. A resident of Eureka for one-and-a-half years, coming from Pratt, she was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband of Pratt; her mother, Gertrude Jeno of Great Bend; two brothers, Rick Trinka of Great Bend and Ted Trinka of Susank; four sisters, Donna Schrepel, Linda Carter and Lisa Niethamer, all of Great Bend, and Laura Jeno of Topeka; her god-daughter, Satien Vest of Madison; and extended family and friends from Eureka. She was preceded in death by one niece, Jennifer Niethamer; and one great-nephew, Tyler Schrepel. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the Rev. David H. LeRoy officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the family, in care of the funeral home. March 13, 2003

Magdalene C. Coe 1912-2003
STAFFORD — Magdalene C. Coe, 81, died March 9. She was born July 23, 1921, near Otis, the daughter of Rudolph and Minnie Seidl. She attended grade school in Otis and high school in Great Bend. She married Robert Coe in October 1958. He preceded her in death. A resident of Leisure Homestead in Stafford, coming from Wichita where she lived most of her life, she retired after 35 years at Internal Revenue Service Audit Services Branch in Wichita. Mrs. Coe enjoyed world-wide traveling and genealogy. Survivors include one sister, Valeria Boxberger of Great Bend; one nephew, Randy Boxberger of Overland Park; and two great-nieces, Megan Boxberger and Erin Boxberger, both of Overland Park. She was preceded in death by one sister, Fannie Eveleigh; Rosary will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at All Saints Catholic Church in Wichita. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Calvary cemetery in Wichita. Friends may call Thursday and Friday at Downing & Lahey Mortuary East Chapel in Wichita. There is no set visitation time. Memorials are suggested to Leisure Homestead in Stafford in care of the funeral home. March 12, 2003

Darrell N. Engel 1939-2003
SOUTH HUTCHINSON — Darrell N. Engel, 63, died March 5 at his residence in South Hutchinson. He was born June 10, 1939, at Ellis, the son of Florian P. and Clara Rohleder Engel. He was a graduate of Ellis High School. He married Helen Lillian Ours Aug. 20, 1976, at South Hutchinson. A resident of Hutchinson, coming from Great Bend, he was a courier for a pharmaceutical company and spent years working for Eaton. Engel was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Moose Lodge of Hutchinson, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society and National Rifle Association. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Darrell J. Engel of Colwich, Mike Engel of Hutchinson and Eric D. Engel of Sand Springs, Okla.; five daughters, Christina C. LeBlanc of Newton, Elizabeth Graham of Sand Springs, Brenda Munds and Elaine Engel, both of Hutchinson, and Annette Wasinger of Andover; two brothers, Clayton Engel of Hays and Verlin Engel of Lancaster, Calif.; four sisters, Norma Sander of Great Bend, Imelda Karlin and Elgerine Gross, both of Hays, and Phyllis Stuart of Wichita; 20 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anita M. Engel. Funeral Mass was held Monday at the church, with the Rev. Ned Blick officiating. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of Johnson and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory of Hutchinson. March 12, 2003

Thornton Sanders 1917-2003
STOCKTON — Thornton Sanders, 85, died March 10 at Hays Medical Center in Hays. He was born Dec. 5, 1917, the son of Charlie and Madeline Hutton Sanders. He married Myrtle Phillips Oct. 20, 1964, in Stockton. She died Aug. 19, 1997. A lifelong area resident, he was a house painter. Survivors include one stepson, Harold Tangye of Salina; one stepdaughter, Sylvia Gilmore of Great Bend; two brothers, Charles Sanders of Manhattan and Marion Sanders of Red Cloud, Neb.; three sisters, Ametia Hrabe of Big Springs, Texas, Diana Hulse of Stockton and Roberta Folsom of Washington; eight stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Sanders; two brothers, Robert Neal Sanders and Donald Sanders; three sisters, Marjorie Cooper, Zelda Gilley and Rosanna Weaver; and one stepgrandson, Ricky D. Gilmore. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home in Stockton, with the Rev. David Carlson officiating. Burial will be at Mount Vernon cemetery northwest of Stockton. Friends may call from 3-8 today, from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Hays Humane Society, in care of the funeral home. March 12, 2003

Margaret Huslig 1912-2003
HOISINGTON — Margaret Huslig, 91, died March 10 at Holiday Resort in Salina. She was born Jan. 20, 1912, in Claflin, the daughter of Peter M. and Frances Hoffman Sauber. She married Leonard E. Huslig Nov. 5, 1945, at Ellinwood. He died June 3, 1999. A resident of Salina since 1999, coming from Hoisington, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Huslig was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Altar Society, both of Hoisington, and Immaculate Conception Circle 744 of Daughters of Isabella of Great Bend. Survivors include one son, Eldon L. Huslig of Lombard, Ill.; one daughter, JoAnn F. Maddox of Salina; three brothers, Ambrose Sauber and James Sauber, both of Ellinwood, and Emanuel Sauber of Hutchinson; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son, Dennis M. Huslig; and one brother, Lawrence Sauber. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, followed by Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella rosary, all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Pascal Klein officiating. Burial will be at St. John Church cemetery in Hoisington. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimers and Related Disorders, in care of the funeral home. March 12, 2003

Terry L. Clark 1955-2003
HOLYROOD — Terry L. Clark, 47, died March 10 at his home in Holyrood. He was born March 17, 1955, at Ellsworth, the son of Fount and Barbara Clark. He married Coleen “Coke” Suchy Feb. 10, 1979, at Great Bend. A lifetime resident of the Holyrood and Bushton area, he was an electrical and industrial technician for Oneok Bushton Plant. Clark was a member of Phi Sigma Epsilon of Hays and kids wrestling coach. Survivors include his former wife of Bushton; one son, Justin Clark of Hays; three daughters, Amanda Stevenson and Amy Clark, both of Bushton, and Audra Clark of Holyrood; his mother, Barbara Clark Massey of Marshall, Ark.; one sister, Sherry Keller of Douglas; his grandfather, Clifford Massey of Marshall, Ark.; and two grandsons. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ of Holyrood with the Rev. Mary Lou Klein officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery in Holyrood. Friends may call from 1-8 today and from 8-10 a.m. Thursday at Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth, and from 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Terry L. Clark Memorial Fund, in care of Bank of Holyrood. March 12, 2003

Zelma Pearl ‘Mimi’ Miles 1902-2003
ST. JOHN — Zelma Pearl “Mimi” Miles, 100, died March 10 at Kansas Masonic Home in Wichita. She was born June 1, 1902, at Salem, Mo., the daughter of William and Rachel Wallace Floyd. She married Orva “Sprout” Miles Sept. 22, 1930, at Wellington. He died Oct. 10, 1992. She was a homemaker and Harvey Girl at the Harvey House in Dodge City and Denver, Colo. Mrs. Miles was a member of Church of Christ of St. John. Survivors include one daughter, Helen Lorraine Broadfoot of Wichita; two grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Minnis Chapel Inc. in St. John, with the Rev. Carl Feril officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park cemetery in St. John. Friends may call from 2-8 tonight at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to Kansas Masonic Home in Wichita, in care of the funeral chapel. March 12, 2003

Emma A. Dirks 1907-2003
Emma A. Dirks, 95, of Great Bend, died March 9 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. She was born Sept. 7, 1907, at Garvin County, Okla., the daughter of Bill and Sarah Rose. She married Chester Dirks in 1947 at Meade. He died March 23, 1997. A resident of Great Bend since 1998, coming from Dodge City, she was a retail sales clerk. Survivors include one daughter, Jocile Hansarik of Great Bend; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. There will be no visitation or funeral service. Inurnment will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. No memorials are suggested. Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. March 11, 2003

Lenora H. Smith 1917-2003
LARNED — Lenora H. Smith, 85, died March 9 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in Larned. She was born May 20, 1917, in Great Bend, the daughter of David T. and Agnes Smith. She married Roy R. Smith at Pawnee Rock. A longtime Larned resident, she was a homemaker and housewife. Mrs. Smith was a member of Bergthal Mennonite Church and church mission workers, all at Pawnee Rock. She also did craftwork. Survivors include her husband of the home; one daughter, Betty Nicholson of Larned; two grandchildren, Tamara Beckwith of Jetmore and Kerry Nicholson of Larned; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry Smith, Frank Smith and Dan Smith; four sisters, Sophia Meinershagen, Davina Schmidt, Lena Shaw and Gertrude Schultz; and one granddaughter, Tanya Potter. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bergthal Mennonite Church at Pawnee Rock with the Revs. Todd Schlosser and Lynn Schlosser officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery in Pawnee Rock. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, all at Beckwith Mortuary in Larned. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the mortuary. March 11, 2003

Ruth Stephens 1915-2003
ELLSWORTH — Ruth Stephens, 88, died March 8 at Center for Longterm Care in Salina. She was born Jan. 21, 1915, at Hominy, Okla., the daughter of Claude T. and Ruby Alice Williams Pore. She married V.M. Stephens June 2, 1933, at Bristow, Okla. He died Sept. 20, 1991. A resident of Ellsworth since 1968, coming from Claflin, she was a homemaker and a telephone operator in Claflin. Survivors include two daughters, Yvonne Allen and Vicki Hopkins, both of Ellsworth; six grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth with the Rev. Jim Newkirk officiating. Burial will be at Chase Springdale cemetery in Chase. Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church Television Ministry Fund in Ellsworth, in care of the funeral home. March 10, 2003

Helen Jean ‘Tullis’ Quincy 1924-2003
WICHITA — Helen Jean “Tullis” Quincy, 79, died March 7. Survivors include her husband, Billy Quincy; two sons, William C. Quincy and James A. Quincy, both of Wichita; one daughter, Shelley J. Quincy of Wichita; one sister, Ruth Leek of Roseberg, Ore.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Watson Funeral Home of Garden Chapel of Wichita is in charge of arrangements. March 10, 2003
