Carl William Bernard Sittner 1917-2003
RENVILLE, Minn. Carl William Bernard Sittner, 85, died Feb. 27 at RenVilla Nursing Home in Renville. He was born March 4, 1917, at Hudson, the son of Paul Ernest and Clara Anna Wiedner Sittner. He married
Clelia Belle Whitfield on Dec. 15, 1940, at Ellinwood. She preceded him in death. A resident of Renville, coming from Hudson, he was a farmer, and worked for the county for 15 years doing township and road maintenance. Sittner was a member of Peace United Church of Christ. Survivors include one son, Riley Sittner of Santa Rosa, Calif.; one daughter, Linda Haen of Renville; one sister, Emma Weinhold of Stafford; and five grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Sittner, Ernest Sittner and Max Sittner; and two sisters, Annie Sittner and Alma Weinhold. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. George Redington officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Frank E. Sibrava 1923-2003
WILSON Frank E. Sibrava, 79, died March 1 at Ellsworth County Medical Center in Ellsworth. He was born June 23, 1923, at Wilson, the son of Frank E. Sr. and Vena Wolfe Sibrava. He married
Georgia Ward on June 1, 1955. She died Dec. 5, 2002. A lifetime resident of Wilson, he was a farmer and stockman. Sibrava was a member of John F. McManus American Legion Post 262. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Foster Mortuary Chapel in Wilson with the Rev. Elaine Lord officiating. Burial will be at Wilson City Cemetery. Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, and from 8 a.m. until service time Monday at the mortuary. George Edward Sporn 1929-2003
PEARLAND, Texas George Edward Sporn, 74, died April 25 at Memorial Hermann S.E. Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was born April 22, 1929, at Ellinwood, the son of Leo A. and Thelma Irene Christiansen Sporn. He married
Dorothy Denyer, Aug. 27, 1955, at Ellinwood. A resident of Pearland for five years, coming from Hutchinson, he was a retired manager of a steel plant. Sporn was a member of Congregational United Church of Christ of Little River; Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, both of Hutchinson. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, Richard Sporn of Evanston, Wyo., Mark Sporn and Michael Sporn, both of Wichita; two daughters Georgine Salinas and Teresa Sydnor, both of Pearland; one brother, Richard M. Sporn of Boulder, Colo.; one sister, Cathy Young of Little River; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Link. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Ted Weis officiating. Burial will be at Bean Memorial cemetery at Little River. LIBERAL Ralph J. Hammock, 62, died April 26 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal. He was born July 19, 1940, at Willifred, Ark., the son of Jesse J. and Flora D. Morgan Hammock. He married
Faye Trivitt May 21, 1960, at Hardy, Ark. He attended school in Hardy. A resident of Liberal since 1972, coming from Great Bend, he was a former employee of Western Testing in Great Bend, a production superintendent for Lamory- Mahoney Production Company and started Ralphs Hot Oil Service. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Linnie Hammock and Tim Hammock, both of Liberal; one brother, Phillip Hammock of Cave City, Ark.; one sister, Delthafleta Smith of Hardy; five grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister. Memorial service will be at 7 tonight at Miller Chapel of Liberal with the Rev. Jerry Odel officiating. Inurnment will be at Turkey Pin cemetery in Hardy. CLARKSVILLE, Ark. Gilbert Junior Dean, 52, died April 20 at Johnson Regional Hospital. He was born May 26, 1950, in Barton County, the son of Gilbert C. and Barbara Boele Dean. He married
Jennifer Matson Dean May 18, 2001, at Clarksville. Aresident of Clarksville, coming from Great Bend, he was self employed. Dean was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Jeff Dean of Hays, Jonothan Dean of Wichita, and Scott Dean of Arora, Ohio; one brother, Billy Dean of Wichita; one sister, Shirley Dean of Great Bend; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Bobby Dean; and one half-brother, Walter Butch Boele. Memorial service was held Saturday at Roller-Cox Chapel in Clarksville. April 29, 2003

Anna Theresa Penka, 97, of Great Bend, died April 25 at Great Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born Feb. 4, 1906, at Ellinwood, the daughter of Joseph and Mathilda Beran Birzer. She married
William Joseph Penka Nov. 25, 1935, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, north of Ellinwood. He died Jan. 22, 1955. Aresident of Great Bend since 1935, she was a homemaker. Penka was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and St. Rose Altar Society, both of Great Bend. Survivors include one son, Robert Penka of Champaign, Ill.; two daughters, Louise Hammeke of Ellinwood and Mary Ellen Whitson of Junction City; seven sisters, Clara Bahr of Olmitz, Laura Tinkle of Claflin, Margaret Reichuber of Odin, Eleanor Penka of Healy, Cecilia Denning of Russell, Inez Giessel of Larned and Bertha Achatz of Ellinwood; two grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, George Birzer, Albert Birzer, Robert Birzer and James Birzer; and by four sisters, Mary Birzer, Kate Birzer, Helen Schartz and Elizabeth Ohnmacht. Robert Keith Rich, 46, of Great Bend, died April 26, at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born Aug. 7, 1956, at Great Bend, the son of William E. and Shirley McClain Rich. He married
Roxanne R. Schenk May 31, 1980, at Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was employed by USD 355. Rich was a member of Grace Community Church, AWANA and chairman of Rural Water District No. 2 board of directors. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Jenna Rich and Laci Rich, both of the home; his mother of Great Bend; one brother, Mike Rich of Montrose, Colo.; and three sisters, Iris Jenkins of Great Bend, Tricia DeFilippis of Tucson, Ariz., and Julie Thompson of Oklahoma City, Okla. CLAFLIN Lottie Buehler, 91, died April 27 at Cheyenne Meadows Living Center in Hoisington. She was born Oct. 14, 1911, at Holyrood, the daughter of John and Mary MicKalesky Rezac. She married
Walter William Buehler March 24, 1931, at Dorrance. He died June 26, 1976. A lifetime resident of Ellsworth and Barton counties, she was a clerk at Claflin Drug Store for 35 years. Mrs. Buehler was a member of United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Martha Circle, all of Claflin, and a 50-year member of Eastern Star. Survivors include one son, Roland Keith Buehler of Anchorage, Alaska; one daughter, Geraldine Ann Hauser of Manhattan, Mont.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Emil Rezac, Ernest Rezac and George Rezac. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Janet Myers officiating. ELLINWOOD Larry L. Kasselman, 53, died April 24 at Robert Dole Medical Center in Wichita. He was born March 31, 1950, at Great Bend, the son of Robert D. and Jerry L. Bates Kasselman. A resident of Ellinwood for the past year, coming from Buffalo, N.Y., he was employed in concrete construction. Kasselman was a former member of First Baptist Church of Ellinwood. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. Survivors include his companion, Cheri Balun of Ellinwood; two sons, Jamey Kasselman of Tampa, Fla., and Jeremy Kasselman of Buffalo; his mother of Cheektowaga, N.Y.; one brother, Lewis Kasselman of Bonner Springs; and one sister, Cheryl Archer of Holly Springs, N.C. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kimple Funeral Chapel in Ellinwood, with the Rev. Larry Young officiating. Burial will be at Lakin- Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. ST. JOHN Lee E. Nusser, 68, died April 25 at Stafford District Hospital in Stafford. He was born Aug. 5, 1934, in Rolla, the son of Walter J. and Anna Irene Nusser. He was a 1952 graduate of Plevna High and attended Sterling College. He married
Audrey F. Nusser June 16, 1956, at Sylvia. A resident of St. John since 1968, coming from Emporia, he was 20th District Judicial Magistrate Judge from 1975-1999, Hutchinson policeman from 1959-64, and Kansas Highway Patrolman from 1964- 1973. Nusser was a member of First United Methodist Church of St. John, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Russell, Masonic Lodge 254, IOOF Lodge 539, Scottish Rites, Kansas District Magistrate Judges Association, Court Appointed Special Advocate and Kansas Troopers Association. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Phillip E. Nusser of St. John and Kelly L. Nusser of Lyons; one daughter, Lori D. Nusser of St. John; his stepmother, Iva Nusser of Irvine, Calif.; two brothers, Wendell J. Nusser of Topeka and Wallace Andsager of South Hutchinson; two sisters, Sharon R. Bartz of Gainesville, Fla., and Janice Bruner of Irvine; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Marvin F. Nusser; and one sister, Virginia Palmer.
