Francis J. ‘Frank’ Ireland 1916-2003
Francis J. “Frank” Ireland, 87, of Great Bend, died April 15 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. He was born March 31, 1916, at Nelsonville, N.Y., the son of Albert and Katherine Magee Ireland. He married Muriel Hayes in Peekskill, N.Y. She died in 1986. A resident of Great Bend since 1987, coming from Peekskill, he was plant superintendent for Dorwood Inc., in Peekskill. Ireland was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Peekskill. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. Survivors include two sons, Kevin Ireland of Cortland Manor, N.Y., and James Ireland of Great Bend; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Albert Ireland. Services will be held at a later date at the church in Peekskill. Burial will be at Assumption cemetery in Cortland Manor. Friends may call from noon until 9 tonight at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to Great Bend Humane Society, in care of the funeral home. April 16, 2003

Margaret M. Paxton 1917-2003
MCPHERSON— Margaret M. Paxton, 86, died April 11 at The Cedars Health Care Center in McPherson. She was born Feb. 24, 1917, at Beaumont, Texas, the daughter of Delbert and Ethel Chandler Moore. She married Fay M. Paxton Jan. 1, 1938, at Guyman, Okla. He died Dec. 26, 1988. A resident of McPherson, coming from Durango, Colo., she was a teacher and homemaker. Mrs. Paxton was a member of First United Methodist Church in Durango, and League of Women Voters. Survivors include two sons, Paul M. Paxton of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and Joseph A. Paxton of Pueblo, Colo.; one daughter, Alice P. Young of Great Bend; one brother, Delbert Moore of Archer City, Texas; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, John W. Paxton. Memorial service will be held at a late date at the church in Durango. There is no visitation, cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home in McPherson. April 15, 2003

Teresa Renee Stephans Ramey 1957-2003
GARFIELD — Teresa Renee Stephans Tatman Ramey, 45, died April 12 near Larned as the result of a car accident. She was born Dec. 23, 1957, at Gardena, Calif., the daughter of Clifford Edward and Hope Calico Stephans. She married Robert Ramey. A resident of Garfield coming from Marshall, Texas, Ellinwood and Stafford, she was employed at Dillons in Larned. Survivors include her husband of the home; one daughter, Amanda N. Tatman of Hudson; her parents of Ellinwood; one brother, Dr. Gregory E. Stephans of Gosse Isle, Mich.; and one half brother, Mark Stephans of Las Vegas, Nev. Memorial service was held Monday at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood, with the Rev. Andy Keltner officiating. The body was cremated. Memorials are suggested to Toys for Tots, in care of the funeral home. April 15, 2003

Hattie Pundsack 1916-2003
Hattie Pundsack, 86, of Great Bend, died April 12 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. She was born July 8, 1916, at Pfeifer, the daughter of Herman Joseph and Mary Weigel Linenberger. She married Otto S. Pundsack March 7, 1941, at Kansas City, Mo. He died Oct. 3, 1989. A resident of Great Bend, coming from Seward, she was administrative secretary at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend, retiring in 1981. Mrs. Pundsack was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar Society and a charter member of Central Kansas Medical Center Auxiliary, all in Great Bend. Survivors include one son, Donald J. Pundsack of Great Bend; two daughters, Diane Mary Downs of Lincoln City, Ore., and Joanne Kay Pavia of Portland, Ore.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, the Rev. Herbert Linenberger; and three sisters, Helen Hall, Clara Sellers and Laura Brungardt. Altar Society rosary and vigil service was held Monday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Funeral will be at 10:30 this morning at the church, with the Rev. Warren Stecklein officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Cherry Village Living Memorial, in care of the funeral home. April 15, 2003

Max Eugene Grove 1921-2003
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Max Eugene Grove, 81, died April 13 at Richard Roudebush Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born April 20, 1921, at Wakita, Okla., the son of Timothy Vernon and Lucy Mable Pracht Grove. He married Nadene Lois White March 10, 1946, at Indianapolis. He owned and operated Ray-Max Welding in Claflin for 50 years, retiring in 1985. Grove was a member and deacon of Gasburg Baptist Church in Gasburg, Ind. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Timothy P. Grove of Indianapolis; two daughters, Diana F. Ridenour of Mooresville and Kristi A. Holmes of Springhill; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Revs. Jack Elliott and Tony Manning officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Hall, Ind., with military honors. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Carlisle and Son Funeral Home in Mooresville, Ind. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home. April 15, 2003

Carroll Duane Boyter 1922-2003
Carroll Duane Boyter, 80, of Great Bend, died April 11 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Nov. 24, 1922 at Enid, Okla., the son of James Edward and Lucille Walls Boyter. Boyter was a resident of Great Bend coming from Woodward, Okla. Boyter was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include two sons, Larry D. Boyter of Virginia Beach, Va., and Christopher R. Boyter of Oahu, Hawaii; one daughter, Dana Lancaster of Great Bend; one sister, Delma Archie of Shawnee, Okla.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Boyter, and a sister, Christal Boyter. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Elmwood cemetery in Woodward, Okla., with John Knox officiating. Friends may visit from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Bryant Funeral Home. April 12, 2003

Wendell R. Bott 1924-2003
SPRINGFIELD, ORE. — Wendell R. Bott, 78, died April 10. He was born Nov. 9, 1924 at Hoisington, the son of Albert and Lucy Humphrey Bott. He was a 1947 graduate of Hoisington High School. He married Elizabeth “Betty” Jane McCurry Oct. 1, 1948 at Tuccumcari, N.M. She died April 22, 1988. A resident of Springfield, Ore., coming from Eugene and Hoisington, he was a carpenter. He was a decorated Army Air Corps veteran having served as a sergeant in North Africa and the Middle East during World War II. Bott was a Methodist and a member of the American Legion. Survivors include one son, Brent Reed Bott of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; one daughter, Cindi Jane Hengstler of Eugene; and one sister, Joyce Donahue of Eugene; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Bott. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Lane Memorial Garden Funeral Home in Eugene. Burial will be in Lane Memorial Gardens, Eugene. Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers, to Sacred Heart Foundation Home Health Division, Box 10905, Eugene, Ore., 97440. April 12

Marian Lucille Schultz 1933-2003
RUSSELL — Marian Lucille Schultz, 69, died April 10 at Russell Regional Hospital.
She was born Oct. 25, 1933 in Russell, the daughter of Henry and Katherine Bender Berschauer.
She married Willis L. Schultz on Oct. 14, 1951 in Russell.
Employed at Gibson’s, Gambles and later, for 17 years, at Don Dawson Pharmacy in Russell, she was a lifelong Russell resident.
Schultz was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Russell.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Scott Schultz and Shane Schultz, both of Russell; three daughters, Kelly Jacobs of Hoisington, and Kori Sellens and Kim Kilian, both of Russell; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lorraine Cross of Wichita and Fern Tuzicka of Hoisington.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Art Berschauer; and a sister, Doris Steinert.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Henry Hartman officiating.
Burial will be at St. John Lutheran cemetery in Russell. Friends may visit from 3-8 p.m. today and from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Pohlman’s Mortuary in Russell, with family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church in care of the mortuary. April 12, 2003
