HAYS — Alice P. Davis, 86, died May 3 at Hays Good Samaritan Center in Hays. She was born Aug. 26, 1917, on a farm northeast of Ellis, the daughter of Harry Alvin and Minnie Goodwin Teeters. She married
Herman J. Davis Aug. 15, 1934, at Russell. He died Nov. 5, 1998. A resident of Hays, coming from Russell, she was a former cook at Buckeye School.
She was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Buckeye Pinochle Club and 4-H.
Survivors include two sons, Donald Davis of Zurich and Harold Davis of Yankton, S.D.; three daughters, Alice Paul of Morland, Betty May Matheson of Hays and Sharon Lee Klusener of Great Bend; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one great-grandson and two great-great-granddaughters.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hays. Burial will be at Mt. Allen cemetery in Hays. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today and from 1 p.m. to service time Thursday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Doris Eileen Markel 1918-2004
PRETTY PRAIRIE — Doris Eileen Markel, 85, died May 3 at Prairie Sunset Home in Pretty Prairie. She was born Aug. 23, 1918, at Ft. Madison, Iowa, the daughter of Alan and Helen Gunn Knight. She married
Earl E. Markel March 7, 1937, at Hoisington. He died Jan. 31, 1995. A resident of Pretty Prairie for the past four years, coming from Hoisington, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hoisington Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and EHU.
Survivors include one son, Edward Markel and his wife Judy of Pretty Prairie; one daughter, Vicki Markel of Pretty Prairie; one brother, Vance Knight of Green Valley, Ariz.; two sisters-in-law, Mary Tarlton of Hoisington and Mary Markel of Bartlesville, Okla.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Knight and Mavis Jean Knight.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington with the Rev. Wayne Flanders officiating. Burial will be at Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday, all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Katherine Irene Coyle 1921-2004
Katherine Irene Coyle, 82, of Great Bend, died May 1 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. She was born Sept. 12, 1921, at Ellinwood, the daughter of Will and Amelia Scheufler Koch. She married
Melvin Horton in 1943. He died in 1947. She married
Wayne F. Coyle Nov. 27, 1952, at Great Bend. He died January 1990. A lifetime area resident, she was a retired bookkeeper working for Home Appliance, Everitt Lumber and Miller Printers.
Mrs. Coyle was a member of Central Baptist Church of Great Bend.
Survivors include one son, Larry Dean Horton of Great Bend; one brother, Leonard Koch of Great Bend; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Milton Koch; and two sisters, Faye Kinzel and Adell DeVerse.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Dr. Gordon Rhodes officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend and from 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the church. Syble Marie Forcier
LILBURN, Ga. — Syble Marie Forcier, 78, died March 20 at Lilburn, Ga., after a short illness. Syble was born in Winfield, the youngest of eight children, to Chester and Syble Noc McIntire. She spent much of her childhood in Emporia, and was married
in 1951 in Ellinwood to George Forcier of West Warwick, R.I. Syble had been a widow since 1972. Before moving to the Atlanta area she was a resident of Dallas, Texas, for 30 years. Beside devoting herself to her family, Syble became an independent contractor, carpenter and cabinet maker, and was also a talented artist. In the 1970s, she attended Texas Women’s University in Denton.
Syble is survived by son Dennis Forcier, his wife, Barbara, both residents of Lilburn; son Mark Forcier and granddaughter, Cornelia Syble Forcier of Dallas; grandson James David Dickey, his wife, Natalie, and great-granddaughter, Kirstyn Adele, of Arlington, Texas. Her youngest son, John Clark died in an auto accident in 1978. Among others, Syble is also survived by sister Elsie Schartz of Ellinwood, nephew Barry and wife Charlotte Schartz of Kingman, nephew Leigh and wife Ellen Schartz of Tucson, nephew Clark Schartz of Mission, niece Dorothy McIntire Tammen of Russell, and many other nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Memorial services were held in Georgia, and a Web site has been established at www.mem.com to share events of her life. Dennis Wayne Nichols 1954-2004
HOISINGTON — Dennis Wayne Nichols, 49, died May 2 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. He was born Nov. 1, 1954, in Arkansas City, the son of Lewis and Jessie Willard Nichols. A resident of Hoisington for two years, coming from Great Bend, he was an oilfield pumper for Nadel & Gussman.
Survivors include two sons, Chad Nichols of Wichita and David Nichols of Hoisington; one brother, Richard Nichols; one sister, Ruth Kloxin of Tulsa, Okla.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Doyle Nichols.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the Rev. Don Paden officiating. Helen D. Staab 1917-2004
HOISINGTON — Helen D. Staab, 86, died May 1 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born June 27, 1917, in Pfeifer, the daughter of Joseph Sr. and Anna Marie Burghardt Kisner. She married
Felix L. “Red” Staab Aug. 31, 1937, at Pfeifer. He died May 17, 1992. A resident of Hoisington since 1957, coming from Hays, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Staab was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Great Bend, Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Joe J. Kisner, William “Bill” Kisner, Fred J. Kisner, Al J. Kisner and Raymond Kisner; and two sisters, Mary Herrman and Colletta Jacobs.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington, with the Revs. Pascal Klein and Gerald Hammeke officiating. Burial will be at St. John cemetery in Hoisington. Eva Mae Moser 1914-2004
ST. JOHN — Eva Mae Moser, 89, died May 2 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. She was born Oct. 2, 1914, at Conway Springs, the daughter of William Shadrick and Rhoda Ellen Burden. She was a graduate of Belle Plaine High School. She married
Schuyler Fremont Moser July 5, 1939, in Wichita. He died in 1989. A resident of St. John since 1990, coming from Wichita, she worked for Swift & Company of Wichita and Electra Corporation of Independence and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Moser was a member of First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, both of St. John, Kansas Federation of China Decorators and Kansas Porcelain Art Teacher.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen Kay Brown Soden of St. John; one stepson, Richard Moser of Pratt; two brothers, Verlyn Burden of Leon and Cleo Burden of Wichita; two sisters, Esther Shoup of Arkansas City and Maudie Watkins of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; two grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one stepson, Van Moser; one stepdaughter, Lou-Ann Starlin; six brothers, Cecil Burden, Floyd Burden, Robert Burden, Levi Burden, Dean Burden and Kenneth Burden; and four sisters, Ruth Burden, Thelma Davis, Mary Yeager and Marjorie Willison.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Minnis Chapel Inc. of St. John, with the Rev. Robbie Fall officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at White Chapel cemetery in Wichita. Juanita Marie Schultz Bryant 1918-2004
LA CROSSE — Juanita Marie Schultz Bryant, 85, passed away May 3 at the Long Term Care Unit of Rush County Memorial Hospital in La Crosse. She was born Nov. 9, 1918, at Trousdale, the daughter of Fritz and Lois Schultz. She graduated from Trousdale High School in 1936 and attended Fort Hays State University. In college, she met and later married
Clyde Edward Bryant on April 30, 1939. They lived on a farm near Alexander until 1956, when they moved to La Crosse.
Juanita was a member of Alexander Evangelical United Brethren Church, where she served as pianist and choir director. She was also the church organist and presided as president of Evangelical United Brethren Women at the La Crosse Evangelical United Brethren Church. Later through unification, Juanita’s church membership was transferred to La Crosse United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Clyde E. Bryant, survives her. Other survivors include: one daughter, Nancy Marie Jones and husband Paul of La Crosse, and one son, Bruce Wayne Bryant and wife Katheryn of Ulysses; seven grandchildren, Paul Weston Jones and wife Elodie of Merriam, Matthew Jones and wife Dr. Shelley Jones of North Liberty, Iowa, Dr. Jarrod Jones and wife Dr. Stacey Jones of Hays, Dr. Andrew Jones and wife Dr. Kiley Jones of Hays, Robert Bryant of Wichita, Jean Bryant North and husband Tyler of Albuquerque, N.M., and Elaine Bryant of Topeka; and two great-grandchildren, Madison and Avery Jones. Her parents and one brother, Wayne Schultz, preceded her in death.
Juanita was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of federated clubs and sewing groups. She was an avid reader and a gifted painter. She enjoyed the fine arts, cooking, gardening, bridge and especially her home and family.
The service to celebrate Juanita Bryant’s life will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at La Crosse United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Marilyn Christmore presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse. Burial will be at La Crosse City Cemetery.

Bernice Clarene Becker 1918-2004
Bernice Clarene Becker, 85, of Great Bend, died April 30 at Hospice House in Hutchinson. She was born May 22, 1918, at Nettleton, the daughter of Adolph and Ethel Welch Unruh. She married
Elmer L. Becker April 3, 1938, at Newton. He died Dec. 18, 1989. A resident of Hutchinson for the past year, coming from Great Bend, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry L. Becker of Hutchinson and Ronald G. Becker of Gilbert, Ariz.; one sister, Leota Ross of Eudora; seven grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Unruh.
