Ellis Morton

Services for Ellis Leeland Morton were held at 10 a.m. July 31, 1998, in Highland Cemetery. Pastor Dianne Massey officiated.

Honorary casket bearers were Red Lambert and Charles Finney.

Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established with the First Presbyterian Church.

Olga Crawford

HUTCHINSON - Olga M. Crawford, 96, formerly of Winfield, died July 30, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Center in Hutchinson.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Winfield. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials have been established with First Presbyterian Church and Hutchinson Good Samaritan Center.

Crawford was born Sept. 11, 1901, at Alma Center, Wis., to Amel and Palma (Solberg) Amberson. She grew up in Rapid City, S.D., where she was educated and worked at the Rapid City hospital.

After moving to Winfield in 1929, she worked for William Newton Memorial Hospital until 1937 and was secretary of William Newton Memorial Hospital School of Nursing from 1956 to 1969. From 1969 to 1976 she was manager of William Newton Credit Union.

Crawford also worked in the hospital snack bar for many years and cared for her mother.

In August 1936 she marred James V. Crawford in Oklahoma City. He died July 9, 1957.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Winfield, William Newton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Rossetti Circle, United Presbyterian Women and Dorcas Circle .

Survivors include a son, James Crawford, Richardson, Texas; a daughter, Jean Smith, Hutchinson; a sister, Adeline Johnson, Woodinville, Wis.; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Lester Floyd

ROCK - Lester G. "Bud" Floyd, 82, of Rock, died July 28, 1998, at his home.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Stalter Cemetery, east of Rock.

A memorial has been established with the Rock Community Building Fund. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.

Floyd was born Oct. 17, 1915, on a farm near Wellington. The family lived briefly near Dexter, then moved to their farm near Rock in 1918. Educated in the Darien rural school south of Rock, he began work as a young man with the Santa Fe Railroad.

On Sept. 13, 1952, he married Sue Heflin. They divorced in 1955.

He had resided in Douglas for a number of years. During the late 1970s he retired as a track man for the Santa Fe Railroad. He had lived at his home in Rock for over 35 years.

Suvivors include his sister, Thelma Eastman, and several nieces and nephews, including Pat Smith, Jack Eastman, Ronald Eastman, Donald Eastman and John Schooling, all of Winfield.

Thomas Falk

LEWISVILLE, Texas - Thomas J. "Tom" Falk, 46, of Lewisville, died July 24, 1998, at St. Paul Medical Center in Dallas.

A Rosary will be recited at 8 tonight at St. Ann Catholic Church in Coppell, Texas. The Rev. John Alfonzo will officiate. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, also at St. Ann. The Rev. Denis O'Brien will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Hill Cemetery in Dallas.

Casket bearers will be Brian Falk, David Nelson, David and Tom Lorentz, Tom Bosworth and Harold Wood.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Tom Falk Memorial Fund for St. Ann Church, 2046 Sierra Place, Lewisville, TX 75067, or White Lake Community Scholarship Fund, in care of Tom and Bernadette Falk, 2105 Mound, Winfield.

Falk was born May 13, 1952, in Mitchell, S.D., to Dale E. and Bernadette B. (Stevens) Falk.

He received a bachelor's degree in agricultural engineering from Iowa State University.

Falk was employed as assistant service manager of the Central Division of Kubota Tractor Co. in Farmers Branch, Texas. Prior to that, he was employed as a field test engineer for Massey-Ferguson Co.

On April 13, 1996, he married Catherine Lorentz in Dallas.

Falk was a Eucharistic minister at St. Ann Catholic Church and a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Council 5052, which he served as a financial officer. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge.

Falk was a member of the National Governing Body for Track and Field, Long Distance Running and Race Walking; an official of the Centennial Olympics in Atlanta in 1996; a USA Master Certified Official and a member of the Southwestern Association.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Falk, Lewisville, Texas; his parents, Dale and Bernadette Falk, Winfield; a brother, Brian Falk, Sutton, Neb.; and a sister, Jane Nelson, Scott City.

Betty Douglas

WICHITA - Betty L. Douglas, 64, a nursing home housekeeper, died Aug. 1, 1998, in Wichita.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Broadway Mortuary Chapel in Wichita.

Survivors will include two sons, Rick Douglas, Wichita, and Shannon Siegel, Glendale, Ariz.; five daughters, Kim Douglas, Debbie Adams and Tammy McPherson, all of Wichita, Cheryl Mulheran, San Antonio, Texas, and Charlotte Siegel, Glendale, Ariz.; four brothers, Bud Darnell and Eldon Darnell, both of Winfield, Sam Darnell, Wichita, and Charlie Darnell, Harper; two sisters, Roberta Bonnell and Barbara Shrubshaw, both of Winfield; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Jean Haines

P. Jean Haines, 72, of 1720 Winfield St., Winfield, co-owner and operator of Buck and Jean's Tavern, died Aug. 1, 1998, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 tonight. The family will receive callers from 7 to 8.

A memorial has been established with Meals On Wheels. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Haines was born Feb. 20, 1926, in Burden, to Thadeous Leroy and Versie (Davis) Kelley. She attended Winfield schools.

On Aug. 12, 1966, she married C.M. "Buck" Haines in Miami, Okla.

Haines worked as a sheet metalist at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita for 35 years. For over 21 years, she was co-owner and operator of Buck and Jean's Tavern at 414 N. Main in Winfield.

She participated in league bowling for many years.

Survivors include her husband, C.M. "Buck" Haines, Winfield; three daughters, Tina Haines and Kathie Moore, both of Winfield, and Gina Boatman, Dexter; two sons, Kelley Alexander, Enid, Okla., and Galen Alexander, Lake City, Fla.; a brother, Dwight Kelley, Burden; two sisters, Isabelle Motley, Carthage, Mo., and Kitty Wright, Montezuma; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Opal Littlepage

SEDAN - Opal Pauline Littlepage, 65, librarian, of Sedan, died Aug. 1, 1998, at her home.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Graves-Baird Chapel. The Rev. Larry Bowyer will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with the Sedan Library and the Sedan United Methodist Church. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Littlepage was born Nov. 1, 1932, in Sedan, to Jesse L. and Binnie (Green) Wells.

On July 24, 1949, she married Everett Ishmael "Ish" Littlepage. He died June 30, 1995.

A librarian, Littlepage was a member of the Sedan United Methodist Church, Friendly Neighbors Extension Homemakers Unit, Chautauqua County Election Board and Chautauqua County Extension Council. She was secretary of the United Methodist Parish Council.

Survivors include a son, Mike Littlepage, Sedan; four daughters, Debbie Lewis, Quincey, Calif., Carolyn Coulter, Mulvane, and Jan Uhls and Michelle Littlepage, both of Sedan; two brothers, Ivan Wells, Wichita, and James Wells, Abilene, Texas; a sister, Louise Logsdon, Winfield; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Lester Floyd

ROCK - Services for Lester G. "Bud" Floyd, 82, who died July 28, 1998, were held at 11 a.m. Aug. 3 in Stalter Cemetery at Rock. The Rev. Jim Floyd officiated. Vocal music was "Peace in the Valley."

A memorial has been established with the Rock Community Building Fund.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Nadine Jones

ARKANSAS CITY - E. Nadine Jones, 75, of Arkansas City, died Aug. 2, 1998, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. The Rev. Wade C. Graber will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Jones was born July 5, 1923, in Raven Den, Ark., to Johnny and Winnie Bell (Evans) Toms. As a young girl she moved to Arkansas City where she graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1941. Shortly after graduation she moved to Kansas City and worked for North American Aviation as a gunnery inspector. She later moved to Tulsa, Okla., and worked for Douglas Aircraft, also as a gunnery inspector.

After World War II, she returned to Kansas City where she was employed by Dunn & Bradstreet Publishing, then with United Real Estate Agency. She worked for 25 years with the agency until retiring in 1980.

Survivors include her husband, Lester W. Jones, Arkansas City; two stepsons, Ray Rundle, Wichita, and Kenneth Rundle, Thayer; four brothers, Robert Toms, LaVerne, Calif., Dewey Toms and Jim Toms, both of Mount Shasta, Calif., and Cleo Toms, Weed, Calif.; two sisters, Arlene Gibbons, Newton, and Dorothy Middleton, Mount Shasta, Calif.; eight stepgrandchildren, 11 stepgreat-grandchildren and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

Thomas Walker

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Thomas Douglas Walker, 47, of Claremore, formerly of Arkansas City, died Aug. 2, 1998, at Tulsa Regional Medical Center.

Services will be held at 10:15 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Arkansas City. Jim Cunningham will officiate. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with Tulsa Regional Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary. Contributions can be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.

Walker was born July 10, 1951, in Arkansas City, to Milton Wayne "Shorty" and Mary Louise (Branine) Walker. He was raised and educated in Arkansas City.

On Aug. 16, 1975, he married Kathy Morris of Oxford.

From 1969 to 1988 Walker worked for General Electric at Strother Field, leaving there as a jet engine tester. He worked in Vietnam for GE from 1972 to 1974 as a jet engine representative.

In 1988 he moved with his family to Claremore where he took a position with Bizjet International. His management of jet engine testing, compressor rotor section, machine shop, rework and welding was a major factor in the company's being voted the No. 1 turbine engine overhaul shop in the nation by Professional Pilot magazine.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Walker, Claremore; three sons, Brian D. Walker, Okinawa, Japan, and Thomas W. Walker and Danial L. Walker, both of Claremore; three brothers, David Walker and Jon Walker, both of Arkansas City, and William "Butch" Walker, Tulsa; and two sisters, Sharon Condit, Arkansas City, and A.J. Holloway, Maple City.
