Ruby Holder
Ruby Louise Holder, 84, longtime resident of Winfield and former manager of McGill's Cafe and the Western Drive Inn, died June 5, 1999, at Cumbernauld Village. She had formerly lived at 1209 Millington.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Fulton will officiate. Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials have been established with the H.L. Snyder Research Foundation, Grace Episcopal Church and the Cumbernauld Village Van Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Holder was born March 13, 1915, in McAllen, Texas, to Louis and Lydia (Appling) Pullin. She attended McAllen area schools and graduated from McAllen High School. In 1940 she moved to Winfield and went to work for her sister and brother-in-law, Rhodia Lee and Harry Bourdette, at the Har-Bour Cafe', located at 219 E. Ninth. She later worked for the Bourdettes at the Colony Restaurant at 809 Main before returning to the Har-Bour Cafe'.
On Aug. 26, 1950, she married Harley W. Hedges. For several years, they lived in Winfield before moving to Fort Worth, Texas, in the late 1950s. They returned to Winfield shortly before Mr. Hedges died on June 21, 1962.
On Oct. 1, 1964, she married Charles R. Holder. They resided in Ponca City where both of them were employed at the Quo Vadis Hotel and Restaurant owned by her former brother-in-law, Leslie Hedges, and Pete McGill. Mr. Holder died on May 6, 1966, and shortly after that, Mrs. Holder moved back to Winfield and lived with her sister, Rhodia Lee Bourdette.
During the late 1960s and the 1970s, Mrs. Holder was employed as a manager/cashier for McGill at his restaurant on North Main and later was employed in a similar capacity at the Western Drive Inn which was owned by Hedges and McGill. Mrs. Holder retired from the restaurant business in the late 1970s.
She was a member of the Elks Lodge 732 Auxiliary.
Survivors include a sister, Lottie Henning, San Antonio, Texas; a nephew, Robert "Bob" Bourdette, Winfield, and three nieces, Marilyn K. Littles, Winfield, Gloria Lee Nelson, Hurst, Texas, and Judy Meyn, San Antonio, Texas.
William Reagan
William Jerry Reagan, 54, of 4518 Meadowbrook Lane, Winfield, died June 6, 1999, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus in Wichita. He had been a patient at the hospital for about two weeks and in failing health for five months.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Pittsburg. The Rev. Thomas Stroot will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bridget's Cemetery
in Scammon.
A Rosary will be recited at 7 tonight at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg where the family will receive friends at 8, following the Rosary. Friends may call at the funeral home after 11:30 a.m. today.
Memorials have been suggested to the American Lung Association in care of the funeral home, 522 S. Broadway, Pittsburg, KS 66762.
Reagan was born March 30, 1945, in Pittsburg, to John "Jack" and Martha L. (McCoy) Reagan. He attended Pittsburg schools.
On Sept. 28, 1976, he married Betty Spurling in Miami, Okla.
He worked as a produce manager for Winfield IGA for 15 years and then for Fleming Foods Inc. for five years. At the time of his death, he was employed at Country Mart in Arkansas City.
He was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Reagan, Winfield; two sons, Jacob Reagan, Winfield, and Bill Pyle, Pittsburg; three daughters, Melissa Gilmore, Pittsburg, Tammy Kearns, Winfield, and Kristy Ramage, Wakeeney; his mother, Martha L. Reagan, Pittsburg; three brothers, John Reagan, Gladstone, Mo., and Kenneth Reagan and Richard Reagan, both of Pittsburg; a sister, Mary Clutter, Centralia, Mo.; and seven grandchildren.
Jean Coffey
Jean Coffey, 71, of 1521 Elizabeth, Winfield, died June 8, 1999, at her home.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Coffey was born June 14, 1924, in Ada, Okla., to James R. and Myrtle I. (Adams) Crowe. She was raised and educated in the Ada area and moved to California as a young woman.
She was employed with Consolidated Aircraft Co. in San Diego where she met her future husband, Charles E. Coffey. They married in Yuma, Ariz., on Sept. 6, 1942.
Following World War II, they lived in Missouri for four years before moving to Winfield in 1951. They resided in Winfield throughout the rest of their marriage. Mr. Coffey died on Jan. 29, 1985.
A homemaker, Mrs. Coffey's survivors include a daughter, Cindy Cushenbery, and a brother, James Crowe, both of Winfield; a sister, Mary Beth Wheelen, Phoenix, Ariz.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Virgil Bannon
Services for Virgil Bert Bannon, 84, who died June 4, 1999, were held at 2 p.m. June 8, 1999, in the Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Revs. Max Manning and Ron Keith officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Organist Mary Manning performed "Peace in the Valley." "Ave Maria" and "It Is Well with My Soul" were performed by the American Barber Boys.
Honorary casket bearers were Andy Ball, Junior Bannon, Jack Bannon, Vernon Bannon, Milt Bowman, Jimmy Williams and LeGrande Lawson.
Casket bearers were Duane Lawson, Darwin Smith, Kam Smith, Larry Bannon, Mark Bannon and Brett Bannon.

Betty Cheever
Betty May Cheever, 69, a resident of Southwind Residential Services in Winfield, died June 6, 1999, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Winfield State Hospital & Training Center Cemetery.

Cheever was born Dec. 9, 1929, in Herrington, to Walter Leroy and Ruby (Peterson) Cheever.
She was disabled at birth and had resided first at Winfield State Hospital & Training Center and later at Lindsborg before moving to Focus Developmental Center in Winfield in 1992. She moved to Southwind in October 1998.
She had no survivors.
Jean Coffey

Herbert Holman
WICHITA - Herbert M. Holman, 82, of Wichita, died June 7, 1999, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church. The Rev. Nathan Morgan will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.

Holman was born March 7, 1917, in Geuda Springs. He was a retired production engineer at Boeing.
Survivors include his wife, Madonna Holman, Wichita; nephews, Ned Graham and Jerry Graham, both of Winfield, and Ted Graham, Mesa, Ariz.; and a cousin, Wesley Holman, Oxford.
Pete Schreiner
FORT WORTH, Texas - Bernhardt "Pete" Schreiner, 84, of Fort Worth, Texas, retired superintendent of Douglass schools, died June 5, 1999, in Fort Worth.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Douglass Cemetery. The Rev. Cliff F. Muci will officiate.
Schreiner was born Dec. 7, 1914, in Manitou, Okla., to Frank William Proffett and Lucy (Oliver) Vandervort Owen.
On Feb. 22, 1935, he married Marjorie E. Vandervort in Stillwater, Okla.
Survivors include a daughter, Dr. Lucia "Kathy" DeBauge-Harcum, Waco, Texas; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Gladys Burns
Gladys Burns, 85, of Winfield, died June 9, 1999, at Walnut Hill Nursing Center in Winfield.
Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m Tuesday at the Taneyhill Cemetery
southwest of Winfield.
Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.
Burns was born April 5, 1914. She became a resident of Winfield State Hospital & Training Center early in her life and moved to the former Edgetown Manor Nursing Home in Winfield in the early 1940s.
She later resided at Redbrick Lodge in Winfield before moving to the former Heritage House, now Walnut Hill Nursing Center.
She was affiliated with the Methodist Church and took part in Special Olympics programs.
She is survived by her longtime guardian and friends, Phyllis Miller and Phil Miller, both of Winfield.
