Eleanor Mangrum
DEXTER - Eleanor Mangrum, 60, of Dexter, died Feb. 15, 2000, in Winfield.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Dexter High School. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Maple City Community Church. Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
The Eleanor Mangrum Scholarship Fund has been established, and a memorial has been established with Maple City Community Church. Contributions may be made at the school, church or funeral home.
Mangrum was born Jan. 19, 1940, in Sheridan, Wyo., to Glen and Corinne (Tibbets) Alberts. She graduated from high school in Bonanza, Ore., and attended a business college in Bonanza.
In March 1961 she married George Mangrum in Reno, Nev. They eventually made their home in Dexter. She had been employed with the Dexter school district for 21 years.
Mangrum was a member of Maple City Community Church, Ladies Missionary Group, Dexter 4-H Club and Kansas Sunflower Club.
Survivors include three sons, Scott Mangrum and Neal Mangrum, both of Winfield, and Jeffrey Mangrum, Dexter; her father, Glen Alberts, Sheridan, Ore.; two sisters, Glenda Peterson, Sheridan, Ore., and Deidra Brown, Kuna, Idaho; and five grandchildren.
A son, Allen Mangrum, preceded her in death.
Shirley Thomas
MOLINE - Shirley J. Thomas, 72, retired secretary at Moline Elementary School, died Feb. 16, 2000.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Moline United Methodist Church.
The family will greet friends at Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be no viewing.
A memorial has been established with New Beginnings in Moline.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond L. Thomas, Topeka, and Tyson Porter, Olathe; a daughter, Teressa Kirkpatrick, Longton; a sister, Charlotte Holmquist, Moline; and five grandchildren.
Victor Allen
COLORADO SPRINGS - Retired Lt. Col. Victor E. Allen, United States Marine Corps, 78, of Colorado Springs, formerly of Winfield, died Jan. 21, 2000.
Services were held Jan. 25 at Lighthouse Temple, Colorado Springs. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Colorado Springs.

Allen was born May 23, 1921, in Winfield, to Charles C. and Lois B. Allen. He graduated from Winfield High School in 1939.
On July 17, 1943, he married Marilyn Marburger. She died in 1999.
Allen served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 20 years. He was a theoretical nuclear physicist at Kaman Science for 25 years and had his own consulting business, VACON, for 10 years.
He served on the board of directors of Gospel Ministries for 12 years and was a missionary to Costa Rica for six years.
Survivors include two daughters, Jane Allen, Iowa, and June Matuszak, Colorado Springs; two sisters, Barbara Taylor, Texas, and Margaret Morris, Winfield; two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.
Lorraine Bethke
WICHITA - Lorraine Huffman Bethke, 87, of Wichita, retired Label Shop owner and homemaker, died Feb. 17, 2000.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Eastridge Church of the Nazarene and at 2:30 p.m. in Round Mound Cemetery
near Cedar Vale.
A memorial has been established with Eastridge Church of the Nazarene, 6433 E. Morris, Wichita, KS 67207.

Bethke was born Nov. 21, 1912, to Sidney and Clara (Shahan) Huffman in Chautauqua County. She moved to Wichita in 1931.
In June 1969 she married Roy Bethke. He died in June 1993.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Cross, Shalimar, Fla., and Stephen Cross, Oklahoma City; a daughter, Jeannene Burrow, Wichita; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Shirley Thomas
HOWARD - Shirley Jean Thomas, 72, of Moline, died Feb. 16, 2000, at Howard Twilight Manor.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Moline United Methodist Church. The Revs. Gary Parsons and Ted Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Moline Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 tonight at Zimmerman Funeral Home.

Thomas was born Aug. 1, 1927, in St. Louis, to John H. and Opal (Wood) Porter. A Moline High School graduate, she lived most of her adult life in Elk County.
On Dec. 19, 1945, she married Ira Lee Thomas in Moline. Her husband preceded her in death.
For many years she was the secretary at Moline Grade School.
Thomas was a member of the Moline United Methodist Church and served as church secretary for many years. She was a past president of the Elk County Handicapped Association; on the board of directors of Terramara Association/Shalom; a 50-year member of Ladonia Chapter 243, Order of Eastern Star; a 52-year member of American Legion Post 388 Auxiliary; secretary of the Moline Alumni Association for many years; a charter member of the Kopy Kat Kampers; a member of the Association of Education Office Personnel and secretary of O&B Oil Co. in Elk Falls.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond Thomas, Topeka, and Tyson Porter, Olathe; a daughter, Teressa Kirkpatrick, Longton; a sister, Charlotte Holmquist, Moline; and five grandchildren.
Elmer Demaree
ARKANSAS CITY - Elmer Harold Demaree, 75, of Arkansas City, died Feb. 17, 2000, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. The Revs. Danny Daniel and Joyce Daniel will officiate. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Lung Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Demaree was born May 28, 1924, in Silverdale, to Henry and Sadie "Shirley" Demaree. He was raised in Silverdale and attended country schools around Silverdale and Arkansas City High School.
On May 23, 1950, he married Barbara McCarter in Springdale, Ark. They made their home in Arkansas City.
He worked as a mechanic for Mauer-Neuer and Rodeo Meat Packing Co. for 31 years, retiring in 1982. Demaree later worked for the Arkansas City School District as a mechanic in the bus barn. He retired in 1986. He was a member of the Amalgamated Meat Cutter Union.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Demaree, Arkansas City; two sons, Terry Demaree, Geuda Springs, and Tony Demaree, Arkansas City; two daughters, Kathy McCombs, Bellingham, Wash., and Tom Vroman, Silverdale; a brother, Orville Demaree, Wichita; two sisters, Lula Gibson and Betty Ann Jones, both of Arkansas City; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Donald Arnold
WICHITA - Donald E. Arnold, 71, of Wichita, formerly of Winfield, died Feb. 18, 2000.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at West Side Baptist Church and at 3 p.m. in Tannehill Cemetery
in rural Cowley County. Downing & Lahey Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with Botanica, the Wichita Gardens.
Arnold was a retired Boeing engineer in manufacturing research and development. He was a former resident of Winfield and Fort Scott.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Arnold, Wichita; three sons, Keith Arnold, West Chester, Pa., Neil Arnold, Winfield, and Donald H. Arnold, Lawrence; a daughter, Liz Powell, Wichita; two brothers, Kelley Arnold and Pat Arnold, both of Fort Scott; and eight grandchildren.
Robert Bunch
WELLINGTON - Clarence Robert Bunch, 82, of Wellington, died Feb. 18, 2000, at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation in Wellington.
Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 21 at Frank Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established with the First Baptist Church and the Craft Senior Center in Wellington.
Bunch was born Nov. 8, 1917, to Clarence Asa and Grace (Denning) Bunch in Winfield. He attended Winfield schools and graduated from Winfield High School in 1937.
Bunch went to work in the mechanics department of Santa Fe Railroad in Wellington in 1942.
On May 30, 1947, he married Dorothy Dowers in Oxford. They moved to Wellington in 1948.
Bunch was a skilled woodworker and built his own home in 1962.
In 1972 he was forced to take early disability retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Bunch, Wellington; a son, W.R. "Bill" Bunch, Wellington; and a daughter, Ann Bunch Riggenbach, Derby.
