Billie Miller

ARKANSAS CITY - Billie Suzanne Miller, 40, of Arkansas City, died Feb. 21, 2000.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Guy E. Rendoff and Jesse Kindred will officiate. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery under the direction of Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions can be made to any charity.

Miller was born Jan. 22, 1960, at Kinsley, to William Eugene and Yvonne Evelyn (Price) Zanovich. She attended schools in Mullenville and Arkansas City.

On Feb. 18, 1982, she married Adrian "Ace" Miller in Arkansas City, and they resided in Arkansas City.

Miller worked as a brakeman/switchman for Santa Fe Railway from 1979 to 1984. She had been a homemaker the past 16 years.

Miller was a member of Spencer-Ralston Post 1254 Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the local fibromyalga support group. She was a past president of the IXL Parent Teacher Organization.

Survivors include her husband, Ace Miller, Arkansas City; a son, Aaron Miller, Slidell, La.; a daughter, Andrea Miller, Arkansas City; and a brother, Terry Zanovich and a sister, Jill Freeman, both of Tulsa.

Wilma Miller

AMARILLO, Texas - Wilma Irene Miller, 72, of Amarillo, died Feb. 22, 2000, at an Amarillo hospital.

Services were held at 2 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Chapel, Amarillo, with Pastor Wendell Leach officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with 10th Avenue United Methodist Church, 1016 S. Roberts, Amarillo, TX 79102.

Miller was born May 18, 1927, at Silverdale, to Delbert M. and Lola (Gilmore) Utt. She attended the Silverdale school before the family moved to Winfield in 1942. From 1943 to 1948 she was employed by the First National Bank.

On Dec. 12, 1946, she married Donald I. "Dude" Miller in Wellington. They moved to Amarillo in 1948, and she was employed by the Amarillo National Bank.

Miller was a member of 10th Avenue United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Don Miller, Amarillo; two daughters, Carol Miller, Amarillo, and Cindy Gin, Mesquite, Texas; a son, Monte Miller, Comfort, Texas; a sister, Anna Bowyer, Roanoke, Va.; three brothers, Albert Utt, Winfield, Ernest Utt, Pierson, Ill., and George Utt, Plymouth, Mass.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Winifred Mulvaney

OXFORD - Winifred I. Mulvaney, 79, of Oxford, died Feb. 22, 2000, at William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Oxford United Methodist Church. Pastor Wayne Handle will officiate. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the nursery at the United Methodist Church. Contributions may be left at Oliver-Hawks Funeral Home or the church.

Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 tonight.

Mulvaney was born Jan. 3, 1921, in Belle Plaine, to Alice (Marvin) and John Roy Avers. She graduated from Belle Plaine High School.

On June 16, 1946, she married Verne Russell Mulvaney in Belle Plaine. They moved to Oxford shortly after their marriage. Her husband died March 29, 1993.

During World War II she worked at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, building tail sections for airplanes. She had sold Avon products in Oxford for many years.

Mulvaney was a member of the United Methodist Church, Mothers Club, United Methodist Women and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include a son, Kevin Mulvaney, Wichita; two daughters, Susan Davis, Manhattan, and Sally Raber, Cottonwood, Ariz.; a sister, Alice Lee Welch, California; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Joseph Rosenberry

DOUGLASS - Joseph W. Rosenberry, 78, a retired Beech Aircraft final assembler, died Feb. 23, 2000.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Douglass Cemetery. The Rev. Cliff F. Muci will officiate. Douglass American Legion Post 201 will conduct military graveside services. Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established with the Douglass Public Library.

Rosenberry was born Sept. 8, 1921, in Douglass, to Ruth M. (Asmussen) and Joseph Edward Rosenberry.

On June 12, 1948, he married Marie Helen Barker in Douglass. She died in 1992.

Survivors include a son, Bill Rosenberry, and a daughter, Judy McCray, both of Douglass; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dollie Cummings

ALOHA, Ore. - Dollie Mae Cummings, 96, formerly of Winfield, died Dec. 18, 1999, at a care facility in Aloha.

Memorial services were held Dec. 28 at the Beaverton Foursquare Church. Pastor Keith Reese officiated. Entombment was in Skyline Memorial Park Mausoleum in Portland.

A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer's Association.

Cummings was born July 24, 1903, in Winfield, to Haveletti (McCreary) and Martin Reuther.

On Dec. 24, 1922, she married Lawrence W. Cummings in Winfield. He died in October 1990 after nearly 68 years of marriage.

Cummings lived in Kansas until moving to Oregon after World War II.She had lived in the Portland area since 1947. She was a homemaker, a member of the Free Methodist Church and a past president of the Grandmothers Club of Portland.

Survivors include a son, Lawrence "Wayne" Cummings, Troutdale, Ore.; two daughters, Phyllis Geraldine Pilkington, Portland, and Judy Forney, Hillsboro, Ore.; a brother, George Reuther, Winfield; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Fern Farris

HOISINGTON - Fern M. Farris, 77, of Hoisington, died Feb. 24, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. The Rev. Carl Willis will officiate. Burial will be in Hoisington Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the American Heart Association are suggested. They may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Farris was born Aug. 26, 1922, in Texas County, Mo., to Leota Catherine (Scott) and Newton Henry Barton.

On March 15, 1937, she married Walter Farris in Texas County, Mo. He died Sept. 19, 1967.

On June 2, 1963, she married Edgar A. Farris at Yates Center. He died Aug. 7, 1988.

She had lived in Hoisington for 27 years after moving there from El Dorado.

A homemaker, she was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Hoisington.

Survivors include seven daughters, Debbie Pierce, Winfield, June Erwin, Emporia, Melba Baker and Sherrie Eichman, both of El Dorado, Linda Currie, Pueblo West, Colo., Sheila Phillips, Hoisington, and Kim Schneider, Great Bend; a son, Jack D. Farris, Leon; a sister, Neva McColgin, Licking, Mo.; 26 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Letha Rising

Letha Archer Rising, 93, longtime Winfield resident, died Feb. 24, 2000, at Winfield Rest Haven.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Evangelical Free Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials have been established with the Evangelical Free Church Building Fund and Hospice Inc. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Rising was born March 27, 1906, in Winfield, to Amanda (Taylor) and Nathaniel Mood Archer. When she was a child, the family moved to Ohio for a short time before returning to Winfield where she attended Winfield High School.

On June 20, 1926, she married Lewis E. Rising. She worked as a nurse's aide for several years at William Newton Memorial Hospital and Good Samaritan Village.

She grew up in the Tisdale community and was a past member of the Tisdale United Methodist Church where she accepted Christ at a revival. She was baptized at Grouse Creek in Dexter. She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Lillian M. Rising Grunwald, two brothers, Dale Archer and Mace Archer, and two sisters, Nadine Peck and Ruth Sparks, all of Winfield; a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter and a great-grandson expected in June.

Robert Clements

Robert L. Clements, 79, of 1703 E. 12th, Winfield, died Feb. 26, 2000, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial with military ceremonies will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials have been established with American Legion Post 10 and the Winfield Elks Lodge. Contributions may be made through the organizations or funeral home.

Born Feb. 16, 1921 in Winfield, Clements was a son of William J. and Cora (Oglesby) Clements. The family moved to Udall when he was 12. He graduated from Udall High School in 1941 and worked for Roberts Mortuary in Blackwell.

On Feb. 26, 1943, he married Betty Weeks at Fort Sill, Okla. They later divorced.

Clements served with the 486th Air Combat Group in Burma during World War II. While in Burma, he served under Col. Philip Cochran, the basis for the character Flip Corkin' in the comic strip "Terry and the Pirates." He flew countless missions in his L-5 aircraft to supply troops in the Burmese jungle and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Clements then attended the University of Mortuary Science in Kansas City, graduating in 1947. He was employed by Gordon Mortuary at Wichita and Mulvane and later purchased the business in partnership with Hubert Wilson. They operated the mortuary in Wichita until selling the business in 1965.

Clements worked as a salesman on Kansas, Oklahoma and Colorado routes for Central Casket Co. of Guthrie, Okla., before moving to Laramie, Wyo., in 1973. He was employed as a funeral director in Laramie.

On Sept. 6, 1975, he married Jacqueline Browning in Salinas, Calif., and the couple made their home in Salinas and Monterrey, Calif. He was employed as a funeral director for Herb Healey Mortuaries there, and the couple managed a motel in Salinas for six years.

The Clements moved to Winfield in 1982, and he had been employed by Miles Funeral Service since 1983.

A member of Central Baptist Church in Winfield, he was a longtime affiliate of the Wichita Lions Club and served as president of the East Lions Club. He was also a member of the Wichita chapter of YMCA, Winfield Elks Lodge and Winfield American Legion Post 10. He had served as a leader for Boy Scouts of America in Wichita.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Clements, Winfield; six sons, Chris Clements and Gordy Clements, both of Wichita, Howard Clements, Hawaii, Jimmy McCraney and Marvin Browning, both of Winfield, and Mark Browning, Laramie, Wyo.; two daughters: Patty McCraney and Terri Browning, both of Winfield; two brothers, Bill Clements, Grandview, Mo., and Jim Clements, Oil Hill, Okla.; two sisters, Virginia Rutter, Winfield, and Norma Jean Cross, Hopkins, Minn.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
