Joe Norton
Services for Joe K. Norton were held at 11 a.m. May 12 in the Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Terry Burchett officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
American Legion Post 10 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544, both of Winfield, performed graveside services.
Special music included "Thank You, Lord," by Stephen Butler; "Go Rest High on that Mountain," by Vince Gill; "A Man after Your Own Heart," by Gary Chapman; and "A Friend to Me," by Garth Brooks.
Casket bearers were Ronald Askins, Nick Campbell, J.D. Hite, Nick Hutchens, Allan Norton, Melvin Norton and Keith Tolles.
A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc.
Bobbie Joe Bonnell
WICHITA - Bobbie Joe Bonnell, 70, of Wichita, died May 12, 2000.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hillside Funeral Home in Augusta. Burial will be in Cedar Vale Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association.
Bonnell was a retired Raytheon metal bonder.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta Bonnell, Wichita; a daughter, Sheila Bonnell, Winfield; four sons, Robert Bonnell, Ron Bonnell and Harold Bonnell, all of Winfield, and Kenneth Bonnell, Udall; three stepdaughters, Tracy McLaughlin and Amy Houser, both of Winfield, and Patricia Lanier, Douglass; two stepsons, Jeff Houser, Mulvane, and Jerry Houser, Palmer, Alaska; two sisters, Vergie Reynolds and Mary Ellen Gordon, both of Phoenix; two brothers, Bill Bonnell, Wichita, and David Bonnell, Tolleson, Ariz.; 18 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and six stepgrandchildren.
Russell Martin
ARKANSAS CITY - Russell E. Martin, 63, of Arkansas City, died May 11, 2000, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Parker Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the U.S. Air Force Memorial Foundation. Contributions may be made through Hawks Funeral Home.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 tonight.
Martin was born March 19, 1937, in Ada, Okla., to Mildred Lucille and John Willard Martin. The family moved to the Phoenix area where he was raised and educated.
In 1954 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as an airplane mechanic for 21 years. After his discharge, he remained in Las Vegas and worked for Scenic Airlines as a mechanic.
On Nov. 12, 1989, he married Patricia Prochaska Woodard in Las Vegas, and they lived in Arkansas City. He worked for the city street department making street signs.
Martin was a member of Shelton-Beaty American Legion Post 18 and the Men's Bowling League.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Martin, Arkansas City; two daughters, Patty Cooke and Diana Perkins, and a son, Dale Martin, all of Las Vegas; three stepsons, Joe Woodard, Arkansas City, Jeff Woodard, Ponca City, and Justin Woodard, Fort Collins, Colo.; a sister, Jan Hinds, Elkins, Ark.; three grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren.
Wayne Spittler
OXFORD - Wayne E. Spittler, 81, of Oxford, died May 13, 2000, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Oxford Cemetery. The Rev. Danny Ginn will officiate.
A memorial has been established with Oxford Christian Church. Contributions may be made through Oliver-Hawks Funeral Home.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday.
Spittler was born Nov. 9, 1918, in Oxford, to Nellie Florence (Morgan) and John William Spittler. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1939. For a short while he worked in the oil fields around Sumner County.
In 1940 he joined the U.S. Navy. He was at Pearl Harbor at the time of the bombing and was later stationed in Tokyo Bay. He served on the USS Rigel and the USS Vukon and was discharged in 1946.
Spitler returned to Oxford and went to work for Cessna Aircraft in 1948. He was a tool maker there until his retirement in 1983.
He was a member of the Oxford Christian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Survivors include two sisters, Opal White, Anthony, and Nadine Roberts, Winfield; and Gilly Cook, his caretaker for several years, Arkansas City.

Inurnment services for Charles Edward Dietrick and Ann Marie Marcum Dietrick were held at 10:30 a.m. May 13, 2000, in the Remembrance Garden at Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Fred Houston officiated.
Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Geraldine Evans
DEXTER - Geraldine R. Evans, 97, of Dexter, formerly of Udall, died May 14, 2000, at Grouse Valley Manor in Dexter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Udall United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery
in Rose Hill.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Miles Funeral Service.

Evans was born March 10, 1903, in Rose Hill, to Hattie J. (Cox) and Nathan C. Pickett. She was raised in Rose Hill and graduated from Rose Hill High School. In 1920 she graduated from Friends University in Wichita.
On Aug. 4, 1928, she married Ray E. Evans, and they lived in Udall, Rose Hill and Rock.
She was a home economics teacher in Claflin during the 1920s. She later was a substitute teacher and homemaker.
Evans was a survivor of the 1955 Udall tornado.
Her husband died April 18, 1976.
She was a member of the Udall United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women and a former member of the Co-Operettes homemakers group.
Survivors include a brother, Thorald Pickett, Rose Hill; three grandchildren, including Greg Evans, Udall; and three great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Gary Evans and Darrol Evans, preceded her in death.
Nina Cary
GALENA - Nina L. Cary, 82, formerly of Winfield, died May 15, 2000, at the Galena Nursing Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Highland Cemetery
at Winfield. The Rev. Mark Boxman will officiate.
Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home until 8 tonight and until service time Thursday.

Cary was born Aug. 24, 1917, in Clear Lake, Okla., to Irene (Culp) and Frank Layton. She was raised near Buffalo, Okla.
On Nov. 13, 1941, she married Lloyd R. Cary in Blackwell. He died Sept. 1, 1989.
Cary worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 35 years. She began as an operator and retired as a supervisor in 1977. A member of the Southwestern Bell Pioneers and the Baptist Church, she had moved to Galena in the past year.
Survivors include two sons, Dwayne Cary, Joplin, Mo., and Lloyd Cary Jr., Council Grove; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Stanley Graham
Services for Stanley S. Graham were held at 2 p.m. May 10, 2000, in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. Deacon Tom Herlocker officiated. Burial was in Union-Graham Cemetery.
Craig Duncan gave the eulogy, Col. Bill Harris read a poem and Lloyd Craig shared remembrances. Organist James Strand played "Navy Hymn."
Honorary casket bearers were Bob Duncan, Col. Bill Harris, Bill Lusk and John Reynolds.

Emmett King
SEVERY - Emmett F. King, 81, of Severy, died May 15, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lake Creek Union Cemetery
in Bartlett. Pastor Ron Garrison will officiate.
Friends may call at Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday.

King was born Oct. 28, 1918, in Craig County, Okla., to Estella Mae (Fox) and Elba Floyd King. He attended Grant Mound rural school and grew up in Craig County. He later attended two years of vocational technical school.
On Oct. 20, 1940, he married Virginia Lois Simmons in Labette.
In 1943 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served until the end of World War II.
King worked in several locations throughout the United States as a pipe fitter and welder. During their later years, he and his wife moved to a farm northeast of Severy and had operated the farm since 1984.
He was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 171.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia King, Severy; two daughters, Phyliss Crowe, West, Texas, and Martha Wolfe, Augusta; two sons, Richard King, Rosalia, and Kenneth King, Rose Hill; a brother, Earl King, Freewater, Ore.; a sister, Ernestine Garrison, Coffeyville; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
