Kenton Collinson

Services for Kenton Collinson were at 9:30 a.m. July 14, 2001, in Highland Cemetery. Deacons Tom Herlocker and Craig Sweeney officiated.

Casket bearers were friends and family members.

Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Gerald Jones

Gerald L. Jones, 64, of 509 W. 13th, Winfield, died July 14, 2001, at his home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 tonight.

A memorial has been established with Hospice of Kansas.

Jones was born July 9, 1937, in Zenda, to Christine Olive (Young) and Clarence Alexis Jones. He was raised and educated in Winfield.

On April 19, 1958, he married Alvalene Wilson in Newkirk.

Jones worked as a floor hand on pulling units in oil fields for Big Four, Butler Brothers in Winfield, Sam's Well Services, Ponca City, and Petroleum Enterprises.

Survivors include his wife, Alvalene Jones, and two sons, Gerald Jones Jr. and Larry Jones, all of Winfield; a daughter, Shirley Ann Schwab, Sylvia; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Leota White

SEDAN - Leota Lucile White, 80, homemaker, of Sedan, died July 14, 2001.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with the Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University and the First Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through Graves-Baird Funeral Home.

White was born April 11, 1921, in Sedan, to Eva and Doug Witt.

On Sept. 24, 1939, she married E. Paul White in Wauneta.

Survivors include her husband, E. Paul White, and a sister Orene Utterback, both of Sedan; a son, Douglas White, Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Trudy Wilkinson, Wichita, and Yvonne Cobbs, Garnett; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Angela Belew

BURDEN - Services for Angela Belew were held at 2 p.m. July 16, 2001, in Burden Cemetery. The Rev. Scott Schaefer officiated.

Music included "Momma," by Boyz-2-Men, and "Amazing Grace," by Leanne Rimes.

Casket bearers were Derek Courson, Ryan Cunningham, John Ortiz, Joel Scribner, Everett Weathers and Jason Weathers.

A memorial has been established as an education fund for Belew's grandchildren.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Clara Marten

Services for Clara H. Marten were held at 10:30 a.m. July 16, 2001, in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. John Einem officiated.

Special music included "The Lord's My Shepherd" and "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be," performed by Emerson and Joyce Stewart.

Honorary casket bearer was Anthony Leon Snyder. Casket bearers were Brady, Justin, Marten and Robert Skaer and Emerson Stewart.

A memorial has been established as an education fund for Marten's grandsons.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

George Underwood

DEXTER - George D. Underwood, 84, of Dexter, died July 15, 2001, at William Newton Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. Private burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita.

Memorials have been established with Grouse Valley Manor and the Alzheimer's Foundation.

Underwood was born Dec. 27, 1916, in Williamsburg, to Bessie (Miller) and Charles Underwood. He was raised and educated in the Williamsburg area.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

On Jan. 4, 1938, he married Hazel Bond in Wichita. They lived in Wichita before moving to Leon in 1954. The Underwoods moved to Brookhaven, Pa., in 1961 and lived there for seven years before moving to Everett, Wash. They returned to the Winfield area in 1974 and settled in Dexter around 1990.

Underwood worked for Boeing in fabrication for more than 40 years.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dexter and the American Legion.

His wife died Aug. 25, 1998. A daughter, Mary Oakes, also preceded him in death.

Survivors include two sons, Orlan Underwood, Winfield, and George Underwood, Seattle; a sister, Lois Webster, Cheyenne, Wyo.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Riely Powers

ARKANSAS CITY - Riely Juanita Powers, 11-day-old daughter of Michael and Amy (Watts) Powers of Arkansas City, died July 14, 2001, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hawks Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home until 5 today.

A memorial has been established to help the family with expenses. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Riely was born July 3, 2001, in Arkansas City.

Survivors in addition to her parents include a sister, Rachel Watts, and a brother, Rustin Watts, both of Arkansas City; and her grandparents, John Milton and Lois Earlene Watts, Corona, Calif., and Juanita Beatrice Powers, Arkansas City.

Gerald Jones

Services for Gerald L. Jones were held at 2 p.m. July 17, 2001, in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. The Rev. Earnest McClure officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Music was "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Amazing Grace."

Honorary casket bearers were Bill, Richard, Jackie, Perry, Joe, Allen, Mike and Dean Wilson.

Casket bearers were Darrel Nichols, Dale Phillips, Bobby Suttles, Roy Harris, George Lowe and Randy Cates.

A memorial has been established with Hospice of Kansas.

Margaret Wilson

ARKANSAS CITY - Margaret Elsie Wilson, 98, of Presbyterian Manor, Arkansas City, died there July 17, 2001.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Belknap Cemetery. The Rev. Wallace Wartick will officiate.

A memorial has been established with the Grenola Christian Church. Contributions may be left at Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.

Wilson was born Oct. 23, 1902, in Cloverdale, to Anna Levina (Mayer) and Ira Franklin Underwood. She attended school in the Grenola community.

On April 23, 1924, she married Fay Earl Wilson in Sedan. She was a homemaker in the Grenola, Cambridge and Winfield areas most of her life.

Wilson was a member of the Grenola Christian Church. She had been a resident of Presbyterian Manor for several years.

Her husband died June 2, 1958. An infant son, Jimmy Wilson, died in 1926, and another son, Bill Wilson, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Harold Wilson, Bella Vista, Ark.; two daughters, Nellie Reeves, Cambridge, and Wanda Wartick, Grenola; three sisters, Freda Underwood and Hazel Newton, both of Winfield, and Marjorie Finuf, Menasha, Wis.; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Lois Dennett

Lois Edith Dennett, 71, of 2800 E. 12th, Winfield, died July 18, 2001, in Winfield.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Wilmot Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 9 p.m. Friday. The family will receive friends between 7 and 9.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Care, 800 Main Place, Winfield, KS 67156. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Dennett was born July 31, 1929, in Winfield, to Viola (Chambers) and Rufus Sumner. She received her early education in the Grandview community and graduated from Burden High School in 1947.

On April 16, 1949, she married Raymond Norman Dennett in Wichita where they made their first home. They resided in Bloomington and then Butler and northern Cowley counties before moving to Wilmot in 1967.

A homemaker, Dennett began working as a medications aide at Good Samaritan Village in Winfield in 1979 and in the dietary department of Winfield State Hospital and Training Center in 1985. She retired in 1995.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Burden.

Her husband and a son, Robert Dennett, preceded her in death.

Survivors include four sons, Larry Dennett, McPherson, Stanley Dennett, Miami, Fla., Howard Dennett, Wichita, and Charles Dennett, Winfield; three daughters, Roxanne Gregory, Ness City, Theresa Dennett, Wichita, and Sherrie Conklin, Burden; four brothers, Howard Sumner, Ponca City, Rufus J. Sumner, Topeka, Gene Sumner, Burden, and Ray Sumner, Grove, Okla.; four sisters, Nita Wilson, Burden, Aletha Titus, Mulvane, and Faye Smith and Iris Howard, both of Thayer; 23 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
