Charles Wilson
POND CREEK, Okla. - Charles Lynn Wilson, 71, of Pond Creek, died Aug. 17, 2001, in Oklahoma City.
Services were at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 20 at the United Methodist Church. The Rev. Terry Koehn officiated. Burial was in Pond Creek Cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pond Creek United Methodist Church and Pond Creek Firemen's Association.
Wilson was born Jan. 12, 1930, in Pond Creek, to Edna Mae (Lynn) and Orville Harold Wilson.
A lifelong resident of Pond Creek, he received a bachelor of commercial science degree from Enid Business College. He apprenticed under his father in funeral service before attending Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science, graduating in 1951. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1952 and served for two years.
On June 14, 1958, he married Mary Ann Speldie in Pond Creek. They owned and operated Wilson Funeral Home where he was on the staff for more than 50 years.
Wilson was a member of the Oklahoma Funeral Directors Association.
He was a past master of Pond Creek Masonic Lodge 125 and served 27 years on the board of directors of Pond Creek Cemetery
Association. He was a member of Woy Breckinridge American Legion Post 199 and the Pond Creek Chamber of Commerce. He was a former Pond Creek city clerk and an active member of the Pond Creek United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Wilson, Pond Creek; two sons, Dr. Chris Wilson, Winfield, and Steve Wilson, Pond Creek; a daughter, Sherri Clark, Edmond, Okla.; his mother, Edna Wilson, Pond Creek, a brother, Dr. Keith Wilson, Charleston, S.C.; a sister, Maxine Peier, Wichita; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Lois Leforce
UDALL - Lois Leforce, 89, longtime resident of Udall, died Aug. 19, 2001, at her residence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Udall United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Udall Cemetery.
Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
A memorial has been established with the Udall First Responders. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Leforce was born Feb. 22, 1912, in Custer, Ky., to Stella (Morris) and Christy Gentry. She lived in Kentucky until moving to Udall when she was 14. She attended Udall High School.
On April 17, 1930, she married Cecil Defore. They divorced in 1943.
In 1955 she married Walter Leforce, and they made their home in Udall. He died in 1975.
Leforce worked at Grant's Rest Haven until 1950. She then opened Leforce's Home for the Aged and operated it until 1982 and provided child care for family until 1989.
She was a member of the Udall United Methodist Church and the Kings 20 Club.
Survivors include four daughters, Donna Storey and Cleta Porter, both of Winfield, Janie Ketchum, Udall, and Glenda Lane, Valencia, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Eneree Corbett
ARKANSAS CITY - Eneree O. "Vickie" Corbett, 78, of Arkansas City, died Aug. 18, 2001, at Walnut Hill Nursing Center in Winfield.
Private memorial services have been held. Inurnment will take place later in Sunland Memorial Park Cemetery, Sun City, Ariz. Hawks Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.
A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer's Association, 347 S. Laura, Wichita, KS 67211.
Corbett was born Nov. 23, 1922, in Sulphur, Okla., to Ada Ellen (Boyer) and David Thomas Boyer.
On Dec. 13, 1941, she married Walter Vaden. They later divorced.
On March 11, 1967, she married C. Max Corbett in Winter Haven, Calif.
She worked several jobs before retiring from the profession of tax preparation.
Survivors include her husband, Max Corbett, Arkansas City; two sons and a daughter, Walter Vaden Jr., Terry Corbett and Ellen Gregory, all of Phoenix; two sisters, Beulah McFarland and Ada Buzzi, both of Arkansas City; two brothers, Jack Boyer, Watumka, Okla., and Gerry Boyer, Red Rock, Okla., eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Lester Hope
ARKANSAS CITY - Lester Eugene Hope, 72, of Arkansas City, died Aug. 19, 2001, at his home.
His remains have been donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center for research.
Memorial services will be Sept. 15 at St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Hope was born Oct. 4, 1928, in Meriden, to Cora Mae (Miller) and Benjamin Leo Hope. He graduated from Rock Creek High School and served in the United States Air Force from 1946 to 1949.
On March 4, 1966, he married Twilla Lucille (Mulhern) Sadler in St. Joseph, Mo. She died June 7, 1999.
A retired truck driver, Hope worked for various companies, including DeCoudres Trucking.
Survivors include a son, Harold "Ben" Sadler, and two daughters, Linda Redman and Nancy Schroff, all of Arkansas City; two sisters, Laila Welbourne, Meridan, and Faith Moffit, San Bernardino, Calif.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Jerry Halverstadt
Jerry I. Halverstadt, 63, of 311 E. Seventh, Winfield, died Aug. 18, 2001, at William Newton Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Memorial Chapel. Cremation has taken place with private inurnment to be held later.
A memorial has been set up with Rainbow Credit Union, 717 Main, Winfield, KS 67156, to assist the family with burial expenses.
Halverstadt was born Nov. 2, 1937, in Winfield, to Mary (Andrews) and Ivan Halverstadt. He attended area schools and graduated from Winfield High School.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Air Force.
A lifelong resident of Winfield, he worked in the aircraft industry for many years as a tool and die maker.
An infant son, David W. Halverstadt, preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter, Errol Halverstadt, Roger Halverstadt and Lisa Hooley, all of Winfield; and nine grandchildren.
Roxie Gilbreath
UDALL - Roxie E. Gilbreath, 92, of Udall, died Aug. 21, 2001, at Westview Manor in Derby.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Udall Cemetery.
Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home in Winfield from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Westview Manor Residents Council.
Gilbreath was born Jan. 27, 1909, in Myron, Ark., to Lee (Bates) and Albert Hill.
In 1942 she married Earl Gilbreath in Arkansas. They moved to Udall in 1954. Her husband died March 29, 1977.
A homemaker, Gilbreath was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Udall.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Delbert Ferguson, a son, R.A. Ferguson, a daughter, Gwendolyn, and a son, Dwain.
Survivors include a son, Herb Gilbreath, Udall; three daughters, Marie Berry, Blytheville, Ark., Geneva Kissinger, Derby, and Geraldine Morney, Udall; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Eddie Cook
CASSODAY - Eddie Lawrence Cook, 67, of Cassoday, died Aug. 21, 2001, at his home.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Cassoday. Inurnment will follow in Cassoday Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church and the Boy Scouts through Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado.
Cook was born May 6, 1934, in Athens, Texas, to Minnie and Lawrence Cook and raised in Eustace, Texas.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1972 after 20 years of service, the first four as a Marine in Korea. He then joined the Air Force and served in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
Cook was owner of Cook's Auto Salvage in Wichita.
He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Cassoday Lions Club and the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marcilee Cook, Cassoday, formerly of Winfield; his children, Joseph Cook, El Dorado, Carin Hoover and Rebecca DeGarmo, both of Park City, and Robert Cook, Wichita; his stepfather, William Stone, Belle Plaine; two brothers, Percy Lee Cook, Mansfield, Texas, and Flin Cook, Shreveport, La.; two sisters, Addrain Powers, Granbury, Texas, and Judy Hataway, Dallas; 10 grandchildren and and three stepgrandchildren.
Donald Dale
CEDAR VALE - Services for Donald W. Dale Sr. were held at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 21, 2001, at Wheeler Funeral Home in Cedar Vale. The Rev. Stanley Upchurch officiated. Burial was in Cedar Vale Cemetery.
Music was provided by the County Line Singers. Evelyn Upchurch was the organist.
Casket bearers were Jeff Kelley, Mickey Meyers, Mark Johnson, Floyd Montgomery, Mike Campbell, Ron Linnington and J.D. Sanders.
A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Foundation of South-Central Kansas.
