FRANCIS ORMISTON

KISMET -- Francis Ormiston, 77, of Kismet, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born May 22, 1923, to William and Katie (Suhler) Ormiston in rural Kismet.

He married Mildred Ediger Feb. 26, 1950, in Turpin, Okla. She survives.

He had been a long time Kismet area resident.

He farmed on his family homestead for many years.

He served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was a member of the Kismet United Methodist Church, Kismet Lions Club, Kismet Cemetery Board, and Liberal Elk's Lodge No. 1947.

He was a past board member for Amsoil, having served for six years. He was also a past board member of Seward County Community College in Liberal.

Other survivors include two sons, Greg Ormiston and wife, Robin Herskowitz, Austin, Texas, and Rock Ormiston and wife Stephanie, Plains; two daughters, Debi Bavousett and husband, Ferris, Fort Worth, Texas, and Kandice Morley and husband, Bob, Arlington, Texas; eight grandchildren, Kelsie Jantz, Rocky Ormiston, Katie Ormiston, Farrah Bavousett, Ferrin Bavousett, Garson Ormiston, Ty Morley and Zane Morley; and one great-grandchild, Parker Jantz.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Ormiston and Alvin Ormiston; and one sister, Dora Belle.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kismet United Methodist Church with the Rev. Vernon Maelzer presiding.

Burial will be at Kismet Cemetery in Kismet.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home with the family present from 5-8 p.m. to receive friends.

In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are suggested to the Kismet United Methodist Church, the Cancer Center of Kansas, Hospice of the Prairie or Southwestern Heights Scholarship Fund in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. Second St., Liberal, KS 67901.

ZELLA M. BENNETT

Zella M. Bennett, 82, of Liberal, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Grace Living Center in Buffalo, Okla.

She was born March 27, 1918, to James W. and Ruth W. (Wheeler) Chamberlin in Dewey County, Okla.

She married Alfred W. Bennett Sept. 12, 1938, in Fairview, Okla. He died Dec. 27, 1998.

She graduated from Canton High School in Canton, Okla., and later attended nursing school.

She had lived in Seiling, Okla., and Hugoton before moving to Liberal in October of 1953.

She had cooked for several restaurants in Liberal.

She attended the Assembly of God Church in Liberal.

Survivors include three sons, Warren "Dean" Bennett, Colorado City, Colo., Wilmer Bennett and Weldon Bennett, both of Liberal; one daughter, Wilma Noble, Derby; one foster daughter, Louise Harbison, Syracuse; two brothers, Donald Chamberlin, Pryor, Okla., and Johnny Chamberlin, Claremore, Okla.; three sisters, Nadine Calef, Miller, Mo., Lillian Burkhart and Peggy Kiper, both of Tulsa, Okla.; 20 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; one son, Larry Bennett; one grandson; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Miller Chapel in Liberal with the Rev. Rex Petty presiding.

Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

EMERSON E. GEORGE

Johnson -- Emerson E. George, 72, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Stanton County Hospital in Johnson.

He was born Dec. 20, 1928, to Harold Emmerson and Minnie Maude (Chapman) George in Canton, Okla.

He graduated from Seiling High School in Seiling, Okla., in 1947, and attended Oklahoma State University.

He had been a resident of Stanton County since 1956, and was the manager of the Johnson Coop Car Care Center.

He was a member of Pheasants Forever and was a Master Mason at Masonic Lodge No. 441 in Johnson.

Survivors include one son, Eddie George and wife, Brook, Syracuse; and one granddaughter, Cheyenne.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson with the Rev. Dave Kaufmann presiding.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Munice Cemetery in Dewey County, Okla.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Stanton County Recreation Little League Equipment Fun in care of Garnand Funeral Home, Box 715, Johnson, KS 67855.

MICHAEL B. SIMPSON

AURORA, Colo. -- Michael Bruce Simpson, 50, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at his home in Aurora.

He was born Jan. 29, 1951, to Junior Lee and Alice (Williams) Simpson in Lubbock, Texas.

He married Dianna Weatherby Sept. 28, 1969, in Liberal. She survives.

He was co-manager for Super K-Mart.

His hobbies included playing golf, old cars, especially Corvettes, and snow skiing.

Other survivors include one son, Shannon Michael Simpson, Aurora; two daughters, Tina Schwarte, Elkhorn, Iowa, and Heather Ficken, Rosemount, Minn.; one brother, Richard Simpson, Phoenix; two sisters, Cheri Sally, Midlithian, Va., and Jan Mitchell, Borleson, Texas; and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Newcomer Family Chapel in Lakewood, Colo.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Restlawn Cemetery in Liberal.

Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal is in charge of local arrangements.

JOSE BARAJAS

Jose de Jesus Barajas, infant son of Manuel and Gabriela (Lupercio) Barajas, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

Other survivors include one brother, Manuel Barajas, of the home; paternal grandmother, Andria Nuno, Guadalajara, Mexico; and maternal grandparents, Raul and Anna Giron Lupercio, Guadalajara.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal with Deacon Erasmo Rodriguez presiding.

Burial will follow at the Liberal Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Kitch-Brenneman in Liberal.

FRED FOSTER

TOPEKA -- Fred Foster, 78, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at his home in Topeka.

He was born July 9, 1922, to Fred Sr. and Julia (Alexander) Foster in Protection.

He married Ida Mae Riner Oct. 25, 1942, in Hutchinson. She died Jan. 20, 2001.

He graduated from Protection High School in 1940. He received a bachelor's of science degree at Northwestern State University in Alva, Okla., in 1949, and a master's degree in business administration from Oklahoma University in 1972.

He had been a long time resident of the Kismet and Liberal area, having moved to Kansas City in 1976 and then to Topeka in 1997.

He was the laboratory manager at Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company for many years.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lone Grove, Okla., and the Masonic Lodge. He was a former Kismet school board member.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy.

Survivors include two sons, Bill Foster, Liberal, and Greg Foster, Topeka; one daughter, Mindy Moff, Opelousas, La.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Madelyn Gohn.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Protection with the Rev. Dennis Carter presiding.

Burial will be at the Protection Cemetery in Protection.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home in Coldwater.

Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in Protection in care of Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Box 417, Coldwater, KS 67029.

DEVIN R. PARKS

Devin Ryanne Parks, 4 months, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

She was born Oct. 2, 2000, to Carey Max Durbin and Amber Kathleen Parks in Liberal.

Survivors include her parents; grandparents, Connie and Bill Lewis, Liberal, Randy Parks, Liberal, and Larry and Mickey Durbin, Englewood, Colo.; three aunts, Ashley Nicole Parks, Denver, Stephanie Dawn Durbin and Kara Rose Lewis, both of Liberal; one uncle, Stephen Daniel Lewis, Liberal; great-grandparents, Lawrence R. Miller, and Roy and Wilma Coghill, all of Ulysses, Roberta Durbin and Margaret Lewis, both of Liberal; great-great-grandparents, Lester and Vera Bullock, Ulysses; and numerous great-aunts and uncles.

Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Devin Parks Memorial Fund in care of First National Bank, 324 N. Kansas, Liberal, KS 67901.
