GILBERT C. SMITH

AGUILAR, Colo. -- Gilbert C. "Windy" Smith, 87, of Aguilar, died Thursday, March 1, 2001, in Aguilar.

He was born March 18, 1913, to Noble and Effie Smith in Texas County, Okla.

He married Bessie Pearl Waybright Jan. 16, 1937, in Guymon. She survives.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a farmer in the Hough, Okla., and Seward County areas.

He opened H and S Repair in Liberal in 1956.

In 1958, he and his family moved to Aguilar, where he opened a grocery and feed store. He also ran a service station and ranched until retirement.

He was a member of the Calvery Baptist Church in Walsenburg, Colo.

Other survivors include four sons, Garold Smith and wife, Shirley, Orvil Smith and wife, Phyllis, all of Liberal, Leonard Smith and wife, Evelyn, Alamosa, Colo., and Clovis Smith, Aguilar; two daughters, Mable Harviston and husband, Jerry, Las Vegas, and Treva Hicks and husband, Larry, Sequin, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Hazel M. Hickey; one son-in-law, Joe D. Hickey; and three grandchildren, Brenda Hickey, Rodney Smith and Kelly Smith.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Faith Church in Liberal.

Burial will be at the Liberal Cemetery in Liberal under the direction of Boies Almont Mortuary in Walsenburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Alzheimers Foundation or to the American Cancer Society.

ALICE C. PARKS

Alice C. Parks, 77, Liberal, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

SHIRLEE E. BINDSEIL

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. -- Shirlee E. Bindseil, 71, former Liberal resident, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, in Mesa Ariz.

She was born in Kansas City, Mo.

She was a homemaker.

She worked as a bookkeeper for Skats Communications and National Beef, both of Liberal. She was active in the Liberal Women's Bowling Association, the Monday Night Progressive League and the Ladies Major. She held several offices in the bowling association, one of which was past president.

She and her husband became active RVers and traveled extensively after their retirement.

Survivors include her husband, Don Bindseil, of the home in Apache Junction; three daughters, Cindy Murphy, Cheryl Morrow and Cari Action; one son, Steven Bindseil; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one daughter, Cathy Bindseil.

Cremation took place with remains to be taken to Colorado.

Mountain View Memorial Gardens and Mortuary in Mesa, Ariz., was in charge of arrangements.

Condolences may be sent to Golden Resort, 3710 S. Goldfield, No. 229, Apache Junction, AZ 85219.

The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, 2929 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix, AZ 85016, or to the American Kidney Foundation, 4203 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix, AZ 85018.

DEE W. PRATER

Dee W. Prater, 66, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at her home in Liberal.

She was born June 15, 1934, to Wayne C. and Brayde (Duncan) Clements in Dalhart, Texas.

She attended Dalhart High School in Dalhart and later attended the Liberal Vo-Tech School, where she received her certified nurses aide certificate.

She married Jack Prater March 10, 1953, in Clayton, N.M. He survives.

She had lived in Fort Worth, Texas, prior to moving to Liberal in 1970.

She had taken care of elderly people for several years. She was a homemaker and mother.

Other survivors include two sons, Jack Wayne Prater and Jim Prater, both of Liberal; one daughter, Jacqueline Yaden, Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters, Mary Wallace and husband, Boog, Dalhart, Stella Walker and husband, Barry, Junction City; four grandchildren, Desira Prater, Jim Prater Jr., Jennifer Sue Brock and Terri Faye Yaden; and one great-granddaughter, Sarah Brock.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Miller Chapel in Liberal, with Minister Barry Walker presiding.

Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Liberal.

Friends may call at Miller Mortuary until 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until service time Tuesday.

The family suggests memorials to the Salvation Army in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln, Liberal, KS 67905.

MONICA J. RUBENALL

SUBLETTE -- Monica Jacques (Caul) Rubenall, 86, Sublette, died early Saturday, March 3, 2001, at her daughter's home in Satanta.

She was born July 25, 1914, to Jacob Mathius and Cora (Monroe) Demel in Hollyrood.

She married Denis F. Caul June 24, 1934, in Newton. He died Dec. 6, 1969.

She and her husband moved to Sublette in 1942.

She worked as an insurance secretary for Thiemann Clinic and Farm Bureau, both of Sublette.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, both of Sublette. She was a past member of the Modern Priscilla Club and Read A Book Club, both of Sublette.

Survivors include two daughters, Sylvia Wilson, Sublette, and Susan Blair, Satanta; one brother, Billy Jay Demel, Desert Palm, Calif.; two sisters, Maxine Hauver, Desert Palm, Calif., and Patricia Krchhofer, Colorado Springs, Colo.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and one granddaughter, Kendra Blair.

Graveside services were at 2 p.m. today at the Haskell County Cemetery in Sublette, with the Rev. Mary Al Titus presiding.

A memorial has been established for either the Sublette or Satanta Ambulance Fund. Memorials may be mailed to the Haskell County Funeral Home, P.O. Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.

KENNETH R. MARSHALL

SPRINGFIELD, MO. -- Kenneth R. Marshall, 86, former Seward County resident, died Friday, March 2, 2001, at his home in Springfield.

He was born May 19, 1914, to Oscar and Minnie Marshall in Herington.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator for 21 years for the Dickinson County Highway Department, the Riley County Kansas Highway Department and retired in 1978 from the Seward County Kansas Highway Department.

He was baptized into Christ in 1956 in Abilene and prior to his death he was a member of the Parkview Christian Church in Springfield. He served several years as a minister for a church in Esmond.

His hobbies included bowling in the Golden Age League at Sunshine Lanes.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia S. Marshall; one son, Craig Marshall, Tulsa, Okla.; one daughter, Camille Treibel, Aurora, Colo.; three grandchildren, Dustin, Aaron and Christopher Treibel, all of Aurora; two step-daughters, Yvonne Wilson, Springfield, and Janet Montgomery, Stark City, Mo.; one step-son, Leslie Wilson, Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren, Nathalie Thorson, Springfield, Hannah, Joanna, Mary, Jesse and Elizabeth Montgomery, all of Stark City; and one sister, Virginia Ott, Benton Harbor, Mich.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. today at the Greenlawn Funeral Home in Springfield.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.

DONNA FAYE ANDERSON

HUGOTON -- Donna Faye Anderson, 95, died Saturday March 3, 2001, at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hugoton.

She was born April 12, 1905, to Homer E. and Tryphina (Redfield) McCue in Post.

She was a lifetime resident of the Hugoton area.

She was in the first graduating class from Moscow High School in Moscow.

She married Leland Anderson July 21, 1927. He preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker, a school teacher and a social worker. She was a bookkeeper for John-Deere in Hugoton.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Moscow and she attended the United Methodist Church in Hugoton.

Survivors include nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter; and four brothers, Howard, Roy, Ralph and Murice McCue.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Moscow, with the Rev. Josue P. Mora presiding.

Burial will follow at the Moscow Cemetery in Moscow.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

A memorial has been established for Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hugoton. Memorials may be mailed in care of Pauls' Funeral Home, P.O. Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.

FLOYD E. HOUDYSHELL

HUGOTON ­ Floyd Everett Houdyshell, 76, Hugoton died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, in an automobile accident east of Hugoton on Highway 51.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.
