ROSS C. TEETER

MOSCOW -- Ross C. Teeter, 80, Moscow, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born July 6, 1921, to John W. and Mary (Fields) Teeter in rural Grant County.

He married Beryl Jones Dec. 14, 1941, in Hugoton. She survives.

He graduated from Moscow High School in 1940.

He and his wife moved from rural Grant County to Moscow in 1945.

He was a farmer and rancher. He was a deputy for Stevens County Sheriff's Department for several years.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Moscow. He served on many boards and committees at the church.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 406 in Hugoton, and the Midian Shrine and Wichita Consistory, both of Wichita. He was a 32nd degree Mason.

He served on the school board of USD 209 for several years in Moscow. He also served as a board member for the Stevens County Hospital and Pioneer Manor, both of Hugoton. He was a board member for 12 years for Soil Conservation in Hugoton.

Other survivors include one son, Jim Teeter and wife, Judy, Canon City, Colo.; two daughters, Shirley Mothes and husband, Jim, Moscow, and Sheri Scarafiotti and husband, Tim, Scottsdale, Ariz.; one brother, Melvin Teeter and wife, Katie, Ulysses; three sisters, Dorothy Nichols, Flagler, Colo., Doris Dye, Rolla, and Margaret Parks, Eureka; five grandchildren, Tamara Baehler, Tari Joyce, Jamie Dodd, Jonathan Teeter, and Morgan Scarafiotti; three great-grandchildren, John and Micah Baehler and Ashlan Joyce; and a host of other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Henry Teeter, Harry Teeter and twin brother, Ralph Teeter.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Moscow with the Rev. Bill Ripley presiding.

Burial will be at the Moscow Cemetery in Moscow.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

Memorials are suggested to either the United Methodist Church in Moscow, the Boy Scouts-SantaFe Trail Council, or the American Cancer Fund, all in care of Paul's Funeral Home, P.O. Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.

DEDE DEWITT

HUGOTON -- DeDe DeWitt, 59, Hugoton, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.

She was born May 18, 1942, to Homer and Heneretta (Rakes) Eidson in Commerce, Okla.

She married Russ E. DeWitt Dec. 15, 1976, in Hugoton. He survives.

She moved from Commerce to Hugoton in 1960.

She was manager for Dart-In for 20 years, serving in that position from 1978 to 1999. She was employed as secretary for the Stevens County Sheriff's Department.

She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Hugoton.

Her hobbies included crafts.

Other survivors include two sons, Craig Mantzke, Hugoton, and Jim DeWitt of Colorado; one daughter, Keeley DeWitt, Hugoton; one brother, John Eidson and wife, Dorothy, Oklahoma City; three grandchildren and numerous of other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Hugoton with the Rev. Robert Bailey presiding.

Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

PAULINE M. HEYMAN

ULYSSES -- Pauline M. Heyman, 86, Ulysses, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.

She was born Oct. 2, 1914, to Albert and Bessie (Thomason) Dougan in Stafford County.

She married Paul B. Heyman Aug. 12, 1934, at the Dougan home in Grant County. He survives.

She had been a resident of Grant County since 1918.

She graduated from Grant County Rural High School in 1933.

She was first employed at Gray and Rosel. She was licensed to sell real estate and helped operate the Paul Heyman Agency.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses.

She was a member and past Worthy Matron of Ulysses Eastern Star No. 471, and a past Rainbow Girl Mother Advisor, both in Ulysses.

She was a member of the Chat and Stitch Club, Christian Women's Club and Southwest Kansas Art Association, all of Ulysses.

She was also a past president of Beauceant in Garden City.

She was an artist and gardener.

Other survivors include two daughters, Josandra "Jo" Barnes

and husband, Bill, Lawrence, and Pam Loucks and husband, Harv, Palo Alto, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Bonnie Dougan Watts, Sedro Woolley, Wash.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Orville Dougan.

Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with Dr. Max Clayton presiding.

Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.

EARLENE V. BLACK

SATANTA -- Earlene Vera "Babe" Black, 83, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at Satanta Long Term Care Unit in Satanta.

She was born Sept. 7, 1917, to Earl D. and Celestia M. (Brown) Davis in Stevens County.

She married Luciene C. Black March 7, 1936, in Beaver, Okla. He died Jan. 24, 1998.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Santee Club, both of Satanta.

She was a resident of the Satanta Long Term Care Unit in Satanta.

Survivors include one son, Dennis L. Black and wife, Sally, Satanta; one daughter, Jorja Poppe, Junction City; two brothers, Ben Davis and wife, Ruby, and John Davis, all of Sublette; four sisters, Marie Anton, Satanta, Ruth Prutch, Pueblo, Colo., Louise Itschner and husband, Russell, Kerrville, Texas, and Lucille Ornelas, Pueblo; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Dixie Schonlaw; three brothers, Arthur, James and Raymond Davis; and three sisters, Peggy McDonald, Ann Cobb and one infant sister, Faye Ethel Davis.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Satanta with the Rev. Jeff Miller presiding.

Burial will be at the Dudley Township Cemetery in Satanta.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.

Memorials are suggested to either the United Methodist Church or the Satanta Long Term Care Unit, both in care of the Haskell County Funeral Home, P.O. Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.

SEBASTIAN V. PENA

ULYSSES -- Sebastian Vela Pena, 76, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born Jan. 20, 1925, to Natividad DelRio and Elvira Ruiz (Vela) Pena in Crystal City, Texas.

He married Sophia Ornelas. She died Jan. 1, 1976.

He married Alicia Avila.

He had been a resident of Ulysses since 1956.

He worked as a farmer, a school janitor and a mechanic for John Deere. He did construction work and had worked at the Tuttle Feedlot.

His hobbies included playing the guitar and the harmonica, and playing dominoes at the Grant County Senior Center.

Survivors include four sons, John Sebastian Pena, Beaver, Okla., Fernando Pena and Oscar Joe Pena, both of Caldwell, Idaho, and Hugo Pena, Pampa, Texas; two daughters, Maria Clea, Guerrero, Mexico, and Priscella Correa, Holcomb; one brother, Rodolfo Pena, Dallas; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Maria L. Perez; five brothers, Juan, Jesus, Pedro, Eulalio, and Marcos; and one sister, Maria Pena.

An evening service be at 7 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Chapel in Ulysses.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Primera Asamblea De Dois in Ulysses with Pastor Manuel Perez presiding.

Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.

The family suggests memorials to the Sebastian Vela Pena Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.

THEODORE N. HANLON

MEADE -- Theodore Noel "Ted" Hanlon, 101, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at Lone Tree Compassionate Care Center in Meade.

He was born March 9, 1900, to James Earnest and Annabelle (Moorman) Hanlon in Conrad, Iowa.

He married Pearl Virginia Fletcher April 11, 1922, in Meade. She died Nov. 2, 1973.

He married Idella R. Rodman Cunningham May 12, 1974, in Concordia. She survives.

He had been a resident of Meade since 1921. He was a retired salesman and barber.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War I.

He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Meade.

Other survivors include two sons, Neal Hanlon, Wichita, and Don Hanlon, Knoxville, Tenn.; one daughter, Dorothy Willard, Meade; one brother, Harlow Hanlon, Idaho; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four children, Norman Hanlon, Bobby Dean Hanlon, Anna May Hanlon and James Hanlon; four brothers, Calvin Hanlon, William Hanlon, Ebert Hanlon and Milford Hanlon; and four sisters, Vera, Edna, Mary and Ethel.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of the Nazarene in Meade with the Revs. Ken Willard and Tom Cahill presiding.

Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Meade.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade.

Memorials are suggested to the Church of the Nazarene in care of Fidler-Orme Mortuary, P.O. Box 70, 212 S. Fowler St., Meade, KS 67864.
