Neil Archer, 71, Liberal, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at Holly Nursing Care Center in Holly, Colo.
Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Miller Mortuary in Liberal.
PEARL L. PLANK
HUGOTON -- Pearl L. Plank, 92, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at Pioneer Manor in Hugoton.
She was born March 9, 1909, to Fred F. and Margaret E. (Klinefelter) Babcock in Lyons.
She married Marvin D. Plank June 18, 1930, at her parent's home in Lyons. He died April 6, 1996.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Bethel Friends Church in Hugoton. She was also a member of Gideons Auxiliary and EHU in Coldwater.
Her hobbies included quilting.
Survivors include one son, John Plank, Hugoton; four daughters, Ellen Winters, Guymon, Okla., Dorothy Burkhall, Coldwater, Barbara Hecht, Newton, and Phyllis Kinser, Ulysses; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one nephew.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Byron Babcock and Henry Babcock; two sisters, Elizabeth Bratton and Margaret Cool; one nephew; one niece; and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bethel Friends Church in Hugoton with the Rev. Eric Mason presiding.
Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery
in Hugoton.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Hugoton.
The family suggests memorials to either Barclay College in Haviland or Gideons International, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 423 S. Main, Hugoton, KS 67951.
RAY E. GRACE
HUGOTON -- Ray E. Grace, 72, Hugoton, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.
He was born May 15, 1929, to George R. and Rose Etta (Ice) Grace in rural Stevens County.
He married Sandra Bowland Oct. 26, 1952, in Raton, N.M. She survives.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War Conflict.
He had been a lifetime resident and farmer in Stevens County.
Other survivors include one daughter, Robin Grace, Garden City; two sisters, Gladys Mae Powers, Columbia, Mo., and Audrey F. Arnold, Hugoton; and aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Church of God in Hugoton with the Pastors Bill Vincent and Leslie Ratzlaff presiding.
Burial will be at Barden Cemetery
in Texas County, Okla.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.
Memorials are suggested to either the Special Olympics or the donor's choice, both in care of Paul's Funeral Home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.
CLARENCE C. DAVIS
SATANTA -- Clarence C. Davis, 76, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at Satanta District Hospital in Satanta.
He was born Jan. 26, 1925, to C.C. and Lucy (Sanger) Davis in Satanta.
He married Twila Jane Rhiness July 7, 1947. She survives.
He had been a lifelong resident of Satanta.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of the Satanta American Legion Post No. 276.
Other survivors include one daughter, ZoAnn Torrey and husband, Don, Ulysses; daughter-in-law, Vickie Deaton and husband, Bennie, Satanta; two grandsons, Stacey Davis and wife, Monique, Topeka, and Kevin Davis, Kansas City, Mo.; one niece, Shelly O'Gara and husband, Pat, Philpot, Ky.; one brother, Leroy Davis, Satanta; two sisters, Lexine Harlow, Satanta, and Marietta Harlow, Haysville; one brother-in-law, Paul Eugene Rhiness and wife, Minnie, Owensboro, Ky.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Clarence Sherrill Davis; two brothers, Everett Davis and Donald Davis; and one sister, Mary Beckman.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Satanta.
Burial will be at Banner Cemetery
in rural Seward County.
Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.

ORENTHRO BAKER
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Orenthro "O.J." Baker, 28, Arlington, formerly of Liberal, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at Columbia Medical Center in Arlington.
He was born March 19, 1973, to Isaiah Baker Jr. and Virginia West in Liberal.
He grew up in Liberal and graduated from Liberal High School in 1991.
He attended Hutchinson Community College, Garden City Community College and Fort Hays State University.
He had been a resident of Arlington for six years, and was employed by Abbott Laboratories in Arlington.
Survivors include his wife, LaShawnda; one son, Isaiah Baker; one daughter, Toriana Goods; his mother; one brother, Kenlee West; one sister, Bettia West; grandparents, Isaiah Sr. and Laura Mae Baker and Brack Sr. and Pearlie Mae West; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father and one uncle, James Baker.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Liberal.
Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery
in Liberal.

W.W. "BILL" CODY
W.W. "Bill" Cody, 86, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at his home in Liberal.
He was born Dec. 30, 1914, to Ream and Lelia (Dillingham) Cody in Hunt County, Texas.
He married Freddie Purkey Dec. 21, 1935. She survives.
He had been a resident of Liberal since 1997, moving here from Lefors, Texas.
He worked as a gauger with Texas Pipeline Company. He retired from there after 35 years with the company.
He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Liberal, and the First Baptist Church in Lefors, where he was ordained as a deacon in 1967. He served there as a deacon for 30 years. He was a Sunday school teacher for the young men's class for 20 years.
Other survivors include one son, Wayne Cody and wife, Jeanne, St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter, Barbara Wariner and husband, Jim, Liberal; one sister, Mattie V. Moss, Quinlan, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Geneva Cody, Wylie, Texas, and Bessie Cody, Ennis, Texas; five grandchildren, Byron Wariner and wife, LeAnn, Cindi Louderback
and husband, Mike, Mary Anne Cope, David Cody and Christine Garter; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Southern Baptist Church in Liberal, with the Revs. Keith Bryant and Lewis Ellis presiding.
Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery
in Liberal.

ROBERT NEIL NAGEL
ULYSSES -- Robert Neil Nagel, 61, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Sept. 28, 1940, to Elmer and Gertrude (Kahler) Nagel in LaCrosse.
He grew up on a farm north of LaCrosse and graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1958. He then attended and graduated from Fort Hays State University.
He married Sharon Eilrich Aug. 21, 1966, in Hays. She survives.
He worked at LaCrosse Lumber, Belknap Hardware Company and for the last 34 years for Pioneer Communications, where he worked as a bookkeeper, office manager and director of settlements and tariffs. He also directed the long distance department and supervised the directory publishing department.
He had been a resident of Ulysses since 1968.
He was a board member for the Home Products Committee, Grant County Recreation, Western Prairie Care Home and Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital. He was founder of TASK, an organization for telephone company accountants. He served on committees for OPASTCO and SITA, the national and state organizations for rural independent telephone companies.
He was treasurer of Grace Lutheran Church and the Lions Club, both of Ulysses.
His hobbies included working with stained glass, woodworking, traveling and sports.
Other survivors include two sons, Cory Nagel and wife, Sarah, Ulysses, and Shawn Nagel and wife, Julie, Bemidji, Minn.; one grandson, Andrew Nagel; one sister, Connie Walters and husband, Pat, Catherine; and three nephews, several cousins, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses, with the Rev. Dennis Mason presiding.
Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery
in Ulysses.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
