CLIFFORD W. LIGHTY

ULYSSES -- Clifford W. Lighty, 73, Ulysses, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Grant County Funeral Home in Ulysses.

GLENN H. HAWKINS

WICHITA -- Glenn H. Hawkins, 98, Wichita, formerly of Liberal, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at Riverside Hospital in Wichita.

He was born Nov. 23, 1903, to Jesse Hiram and Bessie Ades (Albright) Hawkins in Tipton, Okla.

He married Mabel (Bunch) Hawkins. She preceded him in death.

He worked as a housebuilder.

Survivors include one daughter, Zeda Mae Beasley, California; one brother, Floyd Hawkins, Loyal, Okla.; two sisters, Lucille Corbett, Wichita, and Nova Faye Geis, Kingfisher, Okla.; and several grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Glenn.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Restlawn Memorial Cemetery in Liberal.

Culbertson-Smith Mortuary in Wichita is in charge of arrangements.

DENNIS DAVIS

ROCKY FORD, Colo. -- Dennis Davis, 41, Chipita Park, Colo., died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, in Rocky Ford.

He was born July 22, 1960, to Oral Dee and April JoEtta (Naegele) Davis in Liberal.

He graduated from Enterprise Academy in Enterprise.

He had lived in Colorado Springs, Colo., for 17 years, working for KRDO TV for the past 11 years.

His hobbies included traveling, camping, raising his dogs, gardening, and growing flowers.

Survivors include his mother, of Liberal; two brothers, Rocky Davis and wife, Kathy, Toronto, and Randy Davis and wife, Ruth, Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters, Fonda Amerin and husband, Joe, Liberal, and Penny Duford and husband, Dennis, Rocky Ford; his grandmother, Amanda Naegele, Liberal; nephews and nieces, Jermie Fansler and husband, Dusty, Winfield, Jami Goff and husband, Tony, Aurora, Colo., Amanda Hernandez and husband, Bobby, Rocky Ford, and Ryan, Matthew and Heidi Davis of Charlotte; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father and one nephew, Adam Goff.

Memorial services were at 11 a.m. today at Arkansas Valley Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Swink, Colo., with the Pastor Wayne Nazarenus presiding.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Liberal.

Memorials are suggested to SCAP, 1301 S. Eighth Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80906.

Ustick Donelson Johnson Funeral Home in Rocky Ford is in charge of arrangements.

JACK W. CREEDEN

SUBLETTE -- Jack W. Creeden, 64, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at his home in Sublette.

He was born March 13, 1937, to E.C. and Martha Henrietta (Dye) Creeden in Sublette.

He married Diane L. Briggs Feb. 8, 1960, in Lamar, Colo. She survives.

He had been a lifetime resident of Sublette.

He served in the United States Army.

He worked for Hinkel Drilling and Supplies from 1965 to 1982.

His hobbies included growing flowers and raising birds. He also enjoyed drag racing for 25 years.

Other survivors include two sons, Jack A. Creeden, Pensacola, Fla., and Jay D. Creeden and wife, Cathy, Bailey, Colo.; one daughter, Janet S. Merriweather and husband, Steve, Lakewood, Colo.; four brothers, Bob Creeden, Lake Wales, Fla., Bill Creeden, Pensacola, Ben Creeden, Garden City, and Jim Creeden, Sublette; five sisters, Nita Sunderland, Satanta, Joan Moore, Dodge City, Jane Deewall, Coldwater, Mary Allingham, Lakeside, Calif., and Wanda West, Odessa, Texas; six grandchildren, Jaclynn, Matthew, Grace, Walker, Camron and Dani; and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, D.G. Creeden.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Church Of The Nazarene in Sublette with the Rev. William Thomas presiding.

Burial will be at Haskell County Cemetery in Sublette.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.

Memorials are suggested to the family in care of Haskell County Funeral Home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.

BILLY J. SHANNON

MEADE -- Billy J. Shannon, 62, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at Meade District Hospital in Meade.

He was born Aug. 18, 1939, to Joe and Bertha (Johnson) Shannon in Vernona, Mo.

He married Yoshi Ishigaki May 6, 1975, in Okinawa, Japan. She survives.

He had been a resident of Meade since 1984.

He was a retired communications specialist in the U.S. Army.

Other survivors include one sister, Allene Shannon, Vancouver, Wash.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Fidler-Orme Mortuary in Meade with the Rev. David Cummings presiding.

Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Meade.

Friends may call until 7 p.m. today at Fidler-Orme Mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to either Meade District Hospital or Disabled Veterans of American, both in care of Fidler-Orme Mortuary, P.O. Box 70, 212 S. Fowler St., Meade, KS 67864.

THEODORA DENNIS

LARNED -- Theodora Dennis, 93, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

She was born March 2, 1908, to Arthur D. and Lelia M. (Riley) Eddy in Pawnee County.

She married Russell R. Hall in 1926. He died in 1968.

She married Clyde Dennis March 1, 1952, in Sayre, Okla. He died April 23, 1985.

She had been a lifetime resident of Pawnee County, and she worked in the Dietary Department at Larned State Hospital. Later she was employed by USD 495 at Phinney School.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of First Congregational Church in Garfield.

She was also a member of Fort Larned DAR Chapter, National DAR Chapter, and Eagles Auxiliary Chapter 646 in Great Bend.

Her hobbies included gardening.

Survivors include two sons, Eugene Hall and Larry Hall, both of Liberal; two daughters, Elizabeth Daniels, Scott City, and Marjorie Unruh, Larned; one brother, Leverne G. Eddy, Lindsborg; two sisters, Geneva R. Gray, Hobbs, N.M., and Florence Burris, Salina; three sisters-in-law, Gloria Eddy, Fairfield Bay, Ark., Gyneatha Gist, Brush, Colo., and Norine Eddy, Ozark, Mo.; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Donald Hall; one daughter, Sue Ann Helfrich; four brothers, John L. Eddy, Ronald D. Eddy, Joe V. Eddy and Kenneth D. Eddy; one granddaughter, Rose Mary Hall Bushel; three great-grandchildren, Michael Vincent Dir, Allen Wayne Giles Wirtz and Melanie Diane McBride.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. today at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned with the Rev. Dan Lundgren presiding.

Burial will be at Larned Cemetery in Larned.

Memorials are suggested to either the Fort Larned DAR Chapter or the Good Samaritan Center, both in care of Beckwith Mortuary, P.O. Box 477, Larned, KS 67550.

REV. J.R. LAWSON

SATANTA -- The Rev. J.R. Lawson, 88, Satanta, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Miller Mortuary in Liberal.

RICHARD R. RIPPY

TECUMSEH -- Richard Ray Rippy, 44, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at his home in Tecumseh.

He was born April 14, 1957, to Kenneth Paul and Jolene (Williamson) Rippy in Liberal.

He married Sheila Michaels Morsett Aug. 23, 1985, in Beaver, Okla. She survives.

He grew up in Liberal and attended Liberal schools. He graduated from Liberal High School.

He attended vo-tech, where he completed courses in carpentry and welding.

He worked for Beech Aircraft before going to work as a welder for Liberal Industries, where he worked for five years.

He moved to Topeka and worked as a welder for Shawnee County Refuse Department for 11 years before he retired.

He had been a resident of Tecumseh for 12 years.

Other survivors include one son, Jeremy Morsett, Ottawa; two daughters, Teresa Decker, Tracy, Calif., and Katrina Klass, Tecumseh; one brother, Roger Rippy, Wichita; one sister, Rochelle Garrison, Derby; two grandmothers, Hazel Williamson, Arvada, Colo., and Beulah Leatherbury, Springfield, Mo.; six grandchildren; one niece; one great-nephew; two uncles; and two aunts.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home in Topeka.

Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. Tuesday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to Stormont Vail Hospice, 1000 W. 10th, Topeka, KS 66604.
