EDNA L. WARES
WICHITA -- Edna L. Wares, 84, Wichita, a former Liberal resident, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at Cherry Creek Nursing Home in Wichita.
She was born April 6, 1918, to L.P. and Mamie (Smith) Warner in Beaver County, Okla.
She married Clyde O. Wares June 6, 1937, in Hugoton. He died April 27, 1997.
She had attended school in Turpin, Okla., and later graduated from Liberal High School in 1936.
She and her husband were custom harvesters for many years.
She was an income tax consultant until retirement.
She was the first female to serve on the Liberal City Commission.
She was a member of National Daughters of the American Revolution, Byrd Prewitt Chapter in Ulysses.
Survivors include one son, Bruce Wares and wife, Carmeleta, Wichita; one daughter, Mary Ann Kirk and husband, Stanley, Grand Prairie, Texas; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, three sisters, and one infant son.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Miller Chapel in Liberal with the Rev. Stanley Lehnert presiding.
Burial will be at Midland (Floris) Cemtery.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and from 8 a.m. to service time Monday at Miller Mortuary in Liberal.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Midway Cemetery
or Tarmassee DAR School, both in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln Ave., Liberal, KS 67901.
CHARLES E. KOWING
Charles E. "Chuck" Kowing, 74, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
He was born June 27, 1928, to Cleo and Thelma (Lowe) Kowing in Winfield.
He married Juanita Atkinson June 19, 1949, in Winfield. She survives.
He was raised and educated in Winfield. He served in the Marines during World War II.
He had been a resident of Liberal for the past 44 years.
He retired in 1992 from Yellow Freight as a truck driver.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge Fargo 300, Scottish Rite, Southwest Shrine, VFW Lane Day Post No. 3166, Teamsters Union 795, and a former member of Liberal Elks Lodge No. 1947.
He was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Liberal.
Other survivors include three sons, Greg Kowing and wife, Linda, and Douglas Kowing and wife, Milly, all of Dumas, Texas, and David Kowing and wife, Cheryl, Arvada, Colo.; nine grandchildren, Christian, Misty, Johnny, Danny, Pat, Sheila, Ray Lee, Ray Dean and Charlie.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Liberal with the Rev. Ken Hathaway presiding.
Burial will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Highland Cemetery
in Winfield.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today and 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal.
MABLE D. MOORE
DODGE CITY -- Mable Darlene Moore, 75, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Frances Campus in Wichita.
She was born July 6, 1927 to William and Rachel (Reid) Goarcke in Olin, Iowa.
She married Maurice Moore June 20, 1947, in Lost Nation, Iowa. He died Dec. 30, 1996.
She spent her early years in Olin and graduated from high school in Olwei, Iowa.
She lived in Maquoketa and Autumwa, Iowa, for about 10 years each.
She was also a past resident of Amarillo and El Paso, Texas, and Arkansas City, Hoisington, Elkhart and Dodge City.
She was a homemaker.
Her hobbies included sports, cooking, and watching her grandchildren play.
Survivors include three sons, Sonny Douglas and wife, Dottie, Arkansas City, Spencer Moore and wife, Mariah, Great Bend, and Stuart Moore and wife, Melissa, Moscow; one daughter, Sandra Dianne Norton and Husband, Whitey, Dodge City; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Merle Goarcke; one grandson; and one great-grandson.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Elkhart Cemetery
in Elkhart with the Pastor Jim Cunningham presiding.

MILDRED H. BUSH
BOULDER, Colo. -- Mildred H. Bush, 105, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002 at her residence.
She was born Aug. 20, 1897, to Daniel Sr. and Eliza (Nicholls) Masters in Osage County.
She married Wilfred Everett Bush Dec. 11, 1918, in Topeka. He died May 11, 1980.
Before moving to Colorado three years ago, she had been a resident of Liberal since 1918.
She was a homemaker, and worked in retail sales at Anna Trahern Shoppe.
She was a member of PTA, serving as president and district president; Rebekah Lodge, serving as Noble Grand, district president and staff director; Southwest Medical Center Auxiliary, serving as president; American Legion Auxiliary, serving as president and district president; "40 & 8," serving as president and district president; Republican Women's Club, serving as president and district president; and Wheatridge Park Care Center, serving as president of resident council.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, and taught Philathea Sunday School class for many years.
She worked to get a downtown Liberal park named in honor of "Toby" Tobias.
Survivors include one daughter, Jean Crowder and husband, Ray, Boulder; two grandchildren, Jeff Wilkins-Crowder and Steve Crowder; four great-grandchildren, Shawn and Jessica Crowder, and Alie and Aaron Wilkins-Crowder.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home Chapel in Liberal with Barbara Wilkins-Crowder presiding.
A private family burial will be at Liberal Cemetery.
Casket will be closed, but friends may sign the register book from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal

IRVIN W. BRUNER
KISMET -- Irvin W. "I.W." Bruner, 70, Kismet, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at his home in Kismet.
He was born June 7, 1932, to Harry J. and Nellie M. (Craig) Bruner in Kismet.
He married Joan E. Dudrey in 1950, in Perryton, Texas.
He grew up in the Kismet community and graduated from Kismet High School in 1950.
He attended Liberal Area Vo-Tech.
He was an engineer for Beech Aircraft for 35 years, working in Liberal and later in Wichita before retiring in 1989.
Following retirement, he farmed and raised livestock.
Survivors include one daughter, Belinda Hurley, Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, John D. Bruner, Rogers, Ark.; one sister, Dorothy Ogesby, Springfield, Mo.; two grandsons, C.J. Fluharty, and Tim Fluharty; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Joyce Mansell.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Chapel in Liberal with the Rev. Rex Petty presiding.
Burial will be at Kismet Cemetery
in Kismet.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Miller Mortuary, with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and from 8 a.m. until service time Tuesday.
