HELEN M. LOUDERBACK

Helen M. Louderback, 81, Liberal, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

She was born Oct. 14, 1921, to Jesse E. and Nellie M. (Leaming) Ingland in Beaver County, Okla.

She married Paul A. Louderback May 28, 1941, in Liberal. He died Aug 17, 1999.

She graduated from Greenough High School in Beaver County, Okla., in 1941.

She and her husband ranched and farmed 14 miles East of Liberal for many years.

She was a member of the Bellview Church in Beaver County, Okla., and had attended the South Church of God, where she was a charter member of the Bluebell EHU in Liberal.

Her hobbies were sewing, flowers, and making quilts for her grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons, Larry Louderback and wife, Nancy, and Max Louderback and wife, Pam, all of Liberal; one daughter, Joyce Taylor and husband Keith, Forgan, Okla.; one brother, Harvey Ingland, Liberal; four sisters, Darlene McCarter and husband, Burt, Forgan, Okla., Ruby Mae Norris and husband, Keith, Amarillo, Texas, Pat Hershey and husband Dale, DeRidden, LA., Bernice Spellins and husband, Jim, Merced, CA.

She is preceeded in death by her parents; four brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Miller Chapel in Liberal with the Rev. David Hellmig presiding.

Burial will be in the Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Liberal.

Friends may call at The Miller Mortuary in Liberal from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, and from noon to 1 p.m. Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the South Church of God or to the American Heart Association in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln Ave, Liberal, KS 67901.

VENANCIO RAMIREZ

ULYSSES ญญ Venancio Ramirez, 47, died Jan. 1, 2003, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born May 18, 1955, to Santos and Maria Teresa (Ramirez) Ramirez at Dr. Arroyo N.L., Mexico.

He married Ciria Landeros Feb. 8, 1977, at Dr. Arroyo N.L, Mexico. She survives.

He had been a resident of Ulysses since 1987, working for Tarbet Construction in Ulysses.

He was a member of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses.

Other survivors include his parents; two sons, Venancio Ramirez Jr. and Carlos Ramirez, Ulysses; one daughter, Maria Ramirez, Ulysses; seven brothers, Juan Pablo Ramirez, Arizona, Seferino Ramirez, Reynario Ramirez, Jose Angle Ramirez, Andres Ramirez, Jaime Ramirez, and Juan Ramirez Jr., all of Ulysses; four sisters, Consolacion Garcia, Ulysses, Virginia Martinez, California, and Ermila Sanchez and Hortencia Ramirez, both of Ulysses; and two grandchildren.

Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. today at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses.

Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Louis Hoang presiding.

Burial will follow at Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses.

Friends may call today until service time Saturday at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses.

The family suggests memorials to the Venancio Ramirez Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.

ANNA R. JANTZ

MONTEZUMA ญญ Anna Rose Jantz, 77, died Wednesday, Jan 1, 2003, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.

She was born Jan. 9, 1925, to Morton W. and Hattie Irene (Obee) Miller, in Montezuma.

She married Ervin W. Jantz Jan. 15, 1950 in Deerfield, KS. He survives.

She was City Clerk in Montezuma for several years. She was secretary at Montezuma Grade School. She was owner of a variety store for about five years, also in Montezuma.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Montezuma.

Her hobbies included spending time with her family, camping, raising flowers, gardening, knitting and crocheting. She was very involved in her children's activities.

Other survivors include a son, Steve Jantz and wife, Nancy, Ferguson, MO.; two daughters, Eileen Strickland, Hugoton, Susan Russell, Weslaco, TX; two brothers, John W. Miller and wife, Floella, Delphos, KS., Hugh Miller and wife, Margarett, Clarksville, TN; one sister, Juanita Oliver and husband Ralph, Painesville, OH.; five grandchildren, Stacey and Kristen Strickland, Toni and Cody Russell and Sam Jantz.

She was preceeded in death by her parents; a brother, Ross Miller; two sisters, Bertha Stevens and Ida Belle Miller.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Montezuma with the Rev. Gene Eshleman presiding.

Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetary in Montezuma.

Friends may call Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Montezuma Funeral Home in Montezuma.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association in care of Montezuma Funeral Home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

EDWIN GAEDE

Edwin Gaede, 92, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born June 13, 1910, to Jacob and Elizabeth (Ewert) Gaede in Hillsboro.

He married Stella S. Wiebe on June 12, 1938, in Whitewater. She survives.

He graduated from Hillsboro High School and Hillsboro Academy. He received his Bachelor's Degree from the Bethel College in Newton, and attended the Emporia State Teacher's College.

He taught industrial arts, science, and was a coach in Moscow, Deerfield, Red Rock, Susank, Waldo, Turon, and Raymond high schools. He moved to Liberal in 1965 and taught fifth grade at Garfield and retired in 1970. Following retirement from teaching in 1970, he worked as head janitor at Liberal High School and retired in 1977.

His hobbies included farming in the summer on a farm near Raymond.

He was a member of the Calvary Mennonite Church in Liberal, where he served as trustee, taught Sunday school for the adult class, and later taught the Junior Sunday school class.

He is also survived by two sons; Norman Gaede and wife, Judy, Vernal, Utah, and Duane Gaede and wife, Dixie, Eugene, Ore.; one brother, Walter Gaede, Hillsboro; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren.

He is preceeded in death by his parents; and one sister, Alice.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Calvary Mennonite Church in Liberal, with the Rev. Ervey Unruh officiating.

Burial will be at the Turpin Mennonite Cemetary in Turpin, Okla.

Friends may call at the Miller Mortuary in Liberal Monday from 8a.m to 8 p.m., and Tuesday from 8 to 11 a.m.

GERALDINE HOOD

Geraldine "Jerry" Hood, 85, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colo.

She was born Sept. 9, 1917, to James E. and Bernice B. (Baxter) Smith in Sioux City, Iowa.

She married Thomas M. Hood Feb. 13, 1936, in Sioux City, Iowa. He died May 28, 1990.

She had been a Liberal resident since 1969, until she moved 2 1/2 years ago to Colorado Springs, Colo., to be with her daughter.

She was a homemaker and an active volunteer in her community.

She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and St. Monica's Guild in Liberal.

She was also a member of BPW (Business and Professional Women). She was active with the Pancake Day Board and was a past Grand Marshall of the Pancake Day Parade. She was a volunteer with the Southwest Medical Center Auxiliary in charge of the gift shop for many years, and also a member of the Kitchen-Kuties Band, all of Liberal.

Survivors include, one daughter, Darlene Stephens and companion, Wayne Long, Colorado Springs; two sisters, Jeanette Speckmann and husband, Ray, Sioux City, Iowa, and Yvonne "Bonnie" Mackelbust, Austin, Texas; one grandson, Thomas Brucker, Colorado Springs; two step-grandchildren, Rhonda Kemper and Brian DePuy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceeded in death by her parents; one son, Darrell "Tubby" Hood; and one sister, Lois Suzie Johnson.

Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home Chapel in Liberal.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Catholic Church with the Father Patrick Keyes presiding.

Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery in Liberal.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Anthony Catholic Church Building Fund in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd St., Liberal, KS, 67901.

MANUEL D. TORRES SR.

COPELAND ญญ Manuel D. Torres Sr., 55, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born March 21, 1947, to Juan S. and Francisca C. (Deleon) Torres in Sabinal, Texas.

He worked for Collingwood Grain in Dodge City for 12 years.

He was a member of the Catholic church.

Survivors include his mother, Copeland; three sons, Manuel Torres Jr., Montezuma, Phillip Torres, Hays, John Torres, Des Moines, Iowa; four brothers, Johnny Torres, Joe Torres, both of Garden City, Frank Torres, Goodwell, Okla., Raul Torres, Hooker, Okla.; six sisters, Lupe Lara, Asencion Ornelas, both of Copeland, Mary Barnhart, Ingalls, Isabel Martinez, Connie Torres, and Rosa Montemayor, all of Sublette; six grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

He was preceeded in death by his father.

Vigil service will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Plains.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m Monday at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Plains with the Father Francis Stuart O.S.B. presiding.

Burial will be at Plains Cemetary in Plains.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.

Memorials are suggested to the family in care of Haskell County Funeral Home, Box 607, Sublette, KS, 67877.
