JAMES CARROLL

James Lee Carroll, 66, husband of Maxie Stapleton Carroll, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born July 17, 1944 in Garrard County, he was the son of Lilly Powell Carroll of Lawrenceburg and the late James William Carroll. He was retired from the Boilermakers Union after 35 years and was a member of the Burnside Masonic Lodge #634.

In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include a daughter: Elizabeth Carroll of Stamping Ground; two sons: Richard (Carol) Stapleton of Lexington and Michael (Kelley) Stapleton of Harrodsburg; a close family friend: Jimmy (Brigette) Howard of Harrodsburg and several brothers, sisters, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jessie Carroll.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, Feb. 21, 2011 at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with John Westerfield officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Scott Patton, Stanley Patton, Edwin Riley, Delaine Christopher Riley, Steve Brogle and Ronnie Broce. Honorary pallbearers were Delaine Riley, E.J. Riley, Otis Knox and R.D. Knox.

A Boilermakers Rites Service was held Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011 at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

GENE CURTSINGER

Richard Gene Curtsinger, 72, Harrodsburg, husband of Beverly Devine Curtsinger, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 23, 1938 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Cleo and Grace Farney Curtsinger. He was a retired maintenance supervisor at Corning Glass and a member and elder of Berea Christian Church, Harrodsburg.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter: Shea (Clint) Harmon; two sons: Shawn (Crystal) Curtsinger and Mark (Brandy) Curtsinger and four grandchildren: Amanda, Morgan and Ethan Curtsinger and Avery Harmon, of Harrodsburg.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Feb. 20 at Ransdell Funeral Chapel with John Westerfield and Harley Humfleet officiating. Burial was in Berea Christian Church Cemetery, Harrodsburg.

Pallbearers were: Tommy Reynolds, Ronnie Allen, Tom Nichols, Donnie Lawson, Floyd Shirley and Dennis Holiday. Honorary bearers were: Ben Black, Donnie Tatum and Carlos Lester.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Berea Christian Church, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

JUANITA GILLILAND

Juanita “Sissie” Gilliland, 84, Harrodsburg, wife of Robert Gilliland, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011 at her home.

Born Feb. 13, 1927 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Jimmy Lee and Pearlie (Devine) Claunch. She was a member and custodian at Benton Baptist Church and worked for the Harlow School system and Genesco.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a son: Mickey Gilliland of Harrodsburg; a sister: Aileen Gilliland of Harrodsburg; three granddaughters: Tracie Gilliland of Harrodsburg, Meredith Sizemore of Perryville, Blythe Gayheart of Versailles and three great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Lee Claunch.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Feb. 19 at Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Tim Gray officiating. Burial was in Patterson Cemetery, Harrodsburg.

Pallbearers were: Richard Hudson, Stevie Elliott, Jason Gayhart, Kyle Bailey, Curtis Sims, Brad Cox, Billy Beavers and Pete Elliott. Honorary bearers were: Bill Elliott and Mike Hudson.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Benton Baptist Church or the Gideon Bible Fund.

DAISY FREEMAN

Daisy Frances Tewmey Freeman, 77, of Cedar Key, FL and formerly of Harrodsburg, wife of Nolen W. Freeman, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011 at North Florida Regional Medical Center, Gainesville, FL.

Born March 24, 1934 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of Laura and Garnett Tewmey. She lived a life of varied interests that included figure skating, cycling and archery. She was the U.S. Eastern Division Field Archery champion.

In addition to her husband of sixty years, she is survived by four sons: Nolen W. Freeman II of Lexington, William A. (Evelyn) Freeman of Grinnell, IA, David Joseph Freeman of Falmouth and Eric Scott (Susan) Freeman of Georgetown; a brother: James Lloyd Tewmey; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Besse and Irma and a son, James Anthony.

A memorial service will be planned for the near future in Cedar Key, FL.

KELLEY LINVILLE

Kelley E. Linville, 79, a Woodford County farmer and widower of Martha Burgin Linville, died Friday, February 18, 2011 at Central Baptist Hospital.

Born in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Thomas F. and Ophelia Boston Linville.

Survivors include his children, Tracey L. (Rick) Moore, Bridget L. (Bob) Cain, Thomas Kelley Linville, a sister, Sherley (Harold) Carmickle, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 21, at the Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Doug Simpson officiating. Burial followed in Lexington Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bill Burgin, Michael Roberts Jason DeBold, Jonathan Scott Moore, Jeremy Jewell, Ricky Reed and Hal "Buddy" Carmickle.

Honorary pallbearers were Earl Dunn, Harold Carmickle, Herman Pittman, Morgan Snapp, Johnny Cain, Jimmy Hall and Eddie Thompson.

Memorials are suggested to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

LIBBY PLACILLA

Libby Placilla, 95, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Monday, December 6, 2010, at Centerville, Ohio.

She was the widow of Edwin F. Placilla.

She is survived by a sister, Elsie Frances Burge; two nieces, Ruth Ann Sweet of Danville and Melody Hauck of Franklin; four nephews, Thomas L. (Jean Ann) Case of Danville, David Minor, Richard Minor and William Burge, all of Dayton, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Richard Minor and Jack Minor, and a sister, Georgia Minor Case.

A memorial gathering was Monday at Stith Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Graceworks Lutheran Services, Benevolent Care Fund, 6441 Far Hills Ave., Centerville, Ohio 45459.

GARY PORTER

Gary Porter, age 53, of Danville and formerly of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville.

Born Saturday, July 20, 1957 in Fayette County, he was the son of John Porter and the late Virginia Dryer Porter. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Danville.

In addition to his father, he is survived by a son: Joshua Tincher of Bardstown; a daughter: Natasha Tincher of Powell County; a brother: Jim Porter of Danville and four grandchildren: Jathan, Tyous, Braxton, and Shatera Tincher.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, Feb. 21, 2011 at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Dr. Tim Mathis and Bro. Everett Priddy officiating. Burial was in Hustonville Cemetery.

Deacons of First Baptist Church served as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes. Association.

JUNE RANDOLPH

June Pike Randolph, 87, of Mitchellsburg, died Wednesday in Harrodsburg. She was the widow of Cecil Crowe and James Randolph.

Born June 6, 1923, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Mazie Vest Pike.

June was a member of Mitchellsburg Baptist Church and a retired, 40-year employee of Palm Beach Company.

Survivors include: six stepchildren; a sister, Stella (W. H.) Pelley of Mitchellsburg; several step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters, and a stepson.

Graveside services were conducted Saturday, February 19, at Hillcrest Cemetery by the Rev. Kenneth Whitehouse.

Pallbearers were Will, Paul, Michael and William Pelley, Mike Rathbone and Roland Arnold Jr.

Honorary pallbearers were be nieces and nephews.

At June’s request, there will be no public visiting hours.

Wilder Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

HENRY SOAPER II

Henry Turner Soaper II, 63, of Fullerton, CA died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011 at his home.

Born June 2, 1947 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late John Morgan and Katherine Cochran Soaper. He was a graduate of Sewanee military Academy followed by the University of Kentucky with a major in photogrammetry and surveying. He joined the U.S. Army in 1968 and worked for the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey. After an honorable discharge from the Army in 1971 he was an active land surveyor until he retired in 2008.

He is survived by his son: Gregory Morgan (Michell Denise) Soaper of Fullerton, CA; a brother: John Morgan Soaper Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri and two grandsons: Dane Morgan Soaper and Blake Wallis Soaper.

MARGARET TRISLER

Margaret Trisler, 77, Chicago, IL, widow of Jack B. Trisler, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011 at her home.

Born July 18, 1933 in Ireland, she was a registered nurse for 45 years.

She is survived by three children: Valerie, Tara and Timmy; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held in Chicago, IL.

FREDDIE WALKER

Freddie Lee Walker, 63, passed on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.

He was formerly employed by Phillip Lighting.

Freddie is survived by: his loving companion, Joy Manning, Danville; two sisters, Lonnie (Michael) Smith, Danville and Mary Joyce Dunn, Harrodsburg; one brother, George (Frances) F. Walker, Sr., Danville; one daughter, Kristy (Phillip) Clarkson; two grandchildren, Ryan and Tyler Clarkson, all of Danville; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.. Friday, February 25, at the Smith-Jackson Funeral Home in Danville.

Visitation will be from 12 noon until time of service.

ROSELYN YEAGER

Roselyn Marie Yeager, 66, Harrodsburg, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2011 at her home.

Born May 30, 1944 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Nina (Barr) Combs. She was a retired Modine employee and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons: Timothy Carroll (Leah) Yeager of Harrodsburg and Travis Scott (Heather) Yeager of Nicholasville; two sisters: Mary Ann Yocum and Bernice Drury of Harrodsburg; nine grandchildren; one step-grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Yeager Dial.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 25 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg.

Pallbearers are: Blake Yeager, Jeremy Yeager, Lee Dial, Daniel Dial, Billy Yocum and Chris Ross. Honorary bearers are: Jacob Yeager and Tristan Yeager.

Visitation will be today (Thursday, Feb. 24) from 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 25 prior to the service, at Ransdell Funeral Chapel.
