RALPH MCKEE II

Ralph Kenneth McKee II, 59, husband of Diane Daugherty McKee, died Monday, May 9, 2011.

Born March 10, 1952, he was the son of the late Ralph Kenneth and Etta Juanita McKee.

He was a member of Alum Springs First Church of God and a graduate of Boyle County High School. He earned his bachelor and masters degrees from Eastern Kentucky University. He taught science and coached in Lee County, Casey County, Burgin and Brownsville, TX schools.

He was a former fireman with the Danville Fire Department. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish, hike, camp and travel.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sisters: Patricia McKee (Truman) Bottom of Wilmore, Doloros McKee of Danville, Terri McKee Patton of Lancaster, Melody McKee (Larry) Pike of Harrodsburg and Becky McKee (Jeff) Quisenberry of Danville and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Allen and two brothers, Michael McKee and Jimmy Dale McKee.

There will be a celebration of Ralph’s life at 5 p.m., Thursday, May 12 at the Alum Springs First Church of God with Rev. Keith Willoughby officiating. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall following the service.

Stith Funeral Home is providing services.

KATHY MIRACLE

Kathy Ann Pemberton Miracle, 52 of Lincoln County, died May 7, 2011.

Born Aug. 24, 1958, she was the daughter of Pauline Crawley Pemberton of Stanford and the late Alford Pemberton.

She was a retired correction officer at Northpoint Training Center.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Nicole Joseph of Harrodsburg and Natasha Walls of TN; a brother, Bradley Pemberton of Hustonville; three grandchildren: Paige Joseph, Chaz Walls and Allison Martin and former husband, Stoney Roy.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, May 12 at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Bro. Terry Morrison. Burial is in Hustonville Cemetery.

MANUEL PEREZ

Manuel Luna Perez, 29, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, May 8, 2011.

Born Oct. 30, 1981 in Olmealca, Mexico, he was the son of Manuel Perez Vasquez and Carmela Luna Hernandez, both of Mexico.

He was a landscaper.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Jasmine Victoria Perez of Harrodsburg and a special friend, Rachel Fraley of Harrodsburg.

Services will be at 7 p.m. today, Thursday, May 12 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Justin Johnston.

Visitation will be today, from 5 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Veracruz, Mexico.

MANUEL PEREZ

Man Dies In Crash

A man is dead following a crash Sunday night on Warwick Road.

Manuel Luna Perez, 29, of McCroskey Pike, was driving in the 2500 block of Warwick Road between Mundy’s Landing and McCroskey Pike when his vehicle dropped off the right shoulder of the road. Perez over corrected and lost control of the vehicle. It (?) a wooden plank fence, according to a press release from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office.

Perez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mercer County Coroner Sonny Ransdell said Perez suffered severe head trauma consistent with striking a plank fence. Toxicology results for Perez are still pending, Ransdell said. Deputy Scott Elder was the investigating officer. The Harrodsburg Police Department assisted in the case.

Born Oct. 30, 1981 in Olmealca, Mexico, Perez was the son of Manuel Perez Vasquez and Carmela Luna Hermandez of Mexico. He was a landscaper.

In addition to his parents, Perez is survived by a daughter, Jasmine Victoria Perez and a special friend, Rachel Fraley, both of Harrodsburg.

OWEN ROBINSON

Owen Howard Robinson, 75, of Stamping Ground, husband of Jane Robinson, died May 1, 2011 at the St. Joe Hospital after a short illness.

He was born on January 15, 1936 in Mercer County to the late Marshal Thomas Robinson and Doris Evelyn Beasley Robinson Royalty. He later moved to Indianapolis, IN.

He was a graduate of Purdue University. He worked for the Kentucky Division of Forestry for over 30 years as District Forester in Stamping Ground until he retired in 1988. From 1988 until 1994 he worked as a contractor for the Federal Prison System teaching greenhouse management at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington.

He also farmed for many years. He operated a “choose and cut” Christmas tree operation for over 20 years. He also was a member of the Franklin County Farmers Market, known as the “Tomato Man.” He was an officer in the U. S. Army for over 30 years retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel in 1989. He served as both a deacon and elder at the Holly Hill Church of Christ, Frankfort, most recently as deacon of benevolence.

In addition to his wife of 38 years, he is survived by a daughter, Ashley Robinson of Frankfort; two sons, Michael (Emily) Robinson of Sugar Land, TX and Neil (Amanda) Robinson of Lexington; a half-brother, Terry (Sandy) Royalty of Indianapolis, IN; two aunts, Virtie Beasley Lambert of Louisville and Margie Beasley Holliday of Sycamore, IL; and a special cousin, Ann Deering of Stanford.

A step-brother, Raymond Royalty preceded him in death.

There will be no viewing but a memorial service will be held at the Holly Hill Church of Christ in Frankfort at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 15 with visitation starting at 2 p.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Holly Hill Church of Christ or Hospice of the Bluegrass.

Johnson’s Funeral Home, Georgetown is in charge of arrangements.

FRANKLIN YATES

Franklin E. “Gene” Yates, 80, of Harrodsburg, husband of Gloria M. Yates, died Monday, May 9, 2011 at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington.

Born August 23, 1930 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Ruel and Martha Long Yates. He was a 1951 Graduate of Harrodsburg High School, served as a Senior Air Traffic Specialist with the 35th Air Transport Squadron of the US Air Force during the Korean War, was a graduate of the Indiana School of Mortuary Science in Indianapolis, IN where he became a licensed embalmer and funeral director. He has been associated with several area funeral homes including: Glave Sims Funeral Home, Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home, Ransdell and Yates Funeral Home, Yates Funeral Home, which he owned and operated, Stith Funeral Home, Beasley and Rainey Funeral Home, Spurlin Funeral Home, Ransdell Funeral Chapel, and Sims Funeral Services. He was also an independent locksmith and owner of Gene’s Lock and Key Service. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Dan (Jenny) Yates of Harrodsburg and Mark (Suzetta) Yates of Lexington; a brother, Tommy (Shirleen) Yates of Harrodsburg and four grandchildren: Ali Yates of Harrodsburg; Jacob, Bailey and Elizabeth Yates all of Lexington.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Bennie Lee Yates and a sister, Bea Willis.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, May 12 at the Harrodsburg Baptist Church by Dr. Robert Defoor, Bro. Wayne Spivey and Bro. Eddie Russell. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with military rites.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, 7 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Sims Funeral Services and noon until the hour of service on Thursday, at the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Pallbearers are: Gary Bradshaw, Jackie Claycomb, Rodney Harlow, Alvis Johnson, Larry Long, Melinda McCowan, Jim Moseley, Danny Rigney, and Gary Yates.

Honorary bearers are: Billy Dunaway, Terry Goode, Marlene Robinson, Elaine Rogers, Nancy Simmons, and Don Smith.

There will be special reserved seating at the service for all current and former local area funeral professionals and all current and former employees of the Harrodsburg Fire and Police Departments.

Memorials are suggested to the Mercer County Humane Society, Mercer County Relay for Life, Hospice of the Bluegrass, and Gideon’s International.

LOUISE VEATCH

Louise M. Veatch, 97, of Scottsdale, AZ, widow of Otis S. Veatch, died Sunday, May 8, 2011.

She was born in Chisholm, MN in 1913 to the late Joseph and Louise Sheryak. She graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis, MN and practiced as a registered OB-GYN nurse. She was a homemaker and long-time resident of Harrodsburg. She loved reading, playing the piano, singing in the choir, playing bingo and watching college sports. Over the years she mentored and nurtured many children, leading scout troops and caring for young children in her Harrodsburg home.

She is survived by a daughter, Janice Veatch Lucero of Scottsdale, AZ; two sons, Jeffrey Veatch of Yorktown Heights, NY and Otis Marshall Veatch of Brandon, FL; seven grand children and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Veatch.

A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 27 at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. on the day of service.

PAULINE VOTAW

Pauline Votaw, 82, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born Nov. 14, 1928 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Hartford and Hadgie Marie Peavler Isham.

She was a retired Corning Glass inspector and a member of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by two daughters: Paula Rae Votaw, and Donna Marie (Donnie) Bast both of Harrodsburg; two sons: Bo (Jo Ellen) Brown of Boyle County and Mickey (Shelia) Brown of Mercer County; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: Ella Marie Best, Mildred B. Isham and a brother, James Royce Isham.

Services were conducted Tuesday, May 10 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Dr. Robert DeFoor. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

JIM BRACY

Jim “Mr. Bracy” Bracy, 67, died Monday, May 16, 2011 at his home in Nicholasville.

He was born August 25, 1943 to the late James Bracy and Hazel Bacus Rode.

He is survived by: three daughters, Lorrie (David) Deering and Stacey (Kent) Slusher, both of Nicholasville and Amanda (Donny) Brandenburg, of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren, Jerry and Heather Wesson, and Lily, Luke and Zeke Slusher; one great-granddaughter, Raylei Wesson; and many others who were deeply loved and touched by Mr. Bracy’s life.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6 pm, Monday, May 23, 2011 at Edgewood Baptist Church, 717 South Main Street, Nicholasville.

RALPH MAY

Ralph Collins May, 84, of Danville, husband of Martha Buchanan May, died Saturday, May 14, 2011.

Born September 12, 1926 in Danville, he was the son of the late Carrie Mae Stringer and Samuel Hope May Jr.

He graduated from Danville High School and served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a switch technician at South Central Bell for 35 years. Since 1970, he was a member of Oleika Temple and was the Oleika Parade Marshal for 29 years. He was a member of The Wilderness Shrine Club, the Franklin Masonic Lodge #28 F. and A.M. and a past Worthy Patron of the Order of Eastern Star. He was a member of Indian Hills Christian Church and was an avid golfer and furniture woodworker.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by thirteen nephews, six nieces and many great nieces and nephews.

Services were held Wednesday, May 18 at the Indian Hills Christian Church. Rev. Lance Ladd, Rev. Tim Mathis and Rev. Mike Crowe officiated. Entombment was in Bellevue Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Gordon Barger, W. O. Bradley, William Crabtree, William Caswell, Ken Cougherty, Robert Holopeter, Edsel Moore, Harry Rice, John Zippay, Cape Anderson and Jim McGinley.

Honorary pallbearers were all members of the Oleika Shrine Legion of Honor.

Memorials are requested to the Oleika Shrine Temple Transportation Fund or the Indian Hills Christian Church Building Fund.

Stith Funeral Home provides services.

BETTY GREGORY

Betty Jean Gregory, 69, of Harrodsburg, wife of Charles Robert Gregory, died Thursday, May 12, 2011 at the UK Medical Cente, Lexington.

Born February 6, 1942 in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Mable Phillips Dearinger.

She worked for Burgin Schools and Mercer County Senior Citizens Center.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters: Susie Katheryne (Hobert) Riley of Salvisa, Mary Jane Richmond of Paris, Becky (Tommy) Dowell of Harrodsburg; three sons: Joe Keith (Sheena) Peel of Paris, Jerry Wayne (Paula) Peel of Danville, Charles Michael (Hazel Shannon) Gregory of Harrodsburg; three sisters: Maxine Rigney of Memphis, Imogene Major of Maysville, Darlene Carmichael of Owensboro; a brother: Donnie Derringer of Harrodsburg; fifteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Dean Derringer.

Services were held Tuesday, May 17 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Ernie Carmichael officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Michael Louallen, Paul Dowell, Jeffery Ramsey, Hobert Riley Jr., Roy Cox Jr., Shawn Bozeman and Robert Louallen.
