EUGENE HUFFMAN

Eugene B. Huffman, husband of Edith Daugherty Huffman, died Sunday September 18, 2011 at the St. Joseph Hospital.

Born October 27, 1926 in Cornishville, he was the son of the late Fred and Juanita Sims Huffman.

Mr. Huffman was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired parts manager for Whitehouse-Humph-rey Automobile Dealership, now Bob Allen Motor Mall, in Danville, KY, with 50 years of service. He was a member of Gardenside Christian Church and a founding member of the Bluegrass Association for Retarded Children.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Kim (Bettina) Huffman, Savannah, GA; one brother, Horace (Ruth) Huffman, Danville; and a brother-in-law, Eddie Robinson, Lexington.

He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Huffman and a sister, Helen Robinson.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, September 21, at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road by Rev. Joe Bob Grider. Burial followed in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Dr., Lexington, KY 40504.

CLIFFORDA JAMES

Clifforda C. Cunningham James, 88, died Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

She was born November 24, 1922 in Mercer County, daughter of the late John Cody and Etha Meaux Cunningham.

She was a retired 18 year employee of Texas Instruments and a member of the Capital City Seventh Day Adventist Church in Frankfort.

She is survived by: her husband of 67 years, Robert F. James; one a son Keith (Zelma) James of Versailles; three grandchildren, Regina James and Tiffany Simmons of Versailles and George “Burt” Simmons of Lexington; one sister, Mattie (Joe) Summerfield of OH, and one sister-in-law Lacy Cunningham of Lawrenceburg.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Toni James, a son Robert F. “Bobby” James, Jr., two sisters, Josephine Minnis and Watseka Cunningham, and four brothers, Horace, Orville, Booker T. and J. C. Cunningham.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 23, at Woodlawn Cemetery with Rev. Johnny K. Cunningham officiating.

Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home.

ERNEST LAKE

Mr. Ernest B. Lake, 86, husband of Janet L. Lake, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2011 at the Heart of Florida Regency Medical Center in Haines City Fla.

Born Oct. 15, 1924 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Abe Lake and Ella Sanders Lake.

He is survived by a son, Ernie B. Lake Jr.; a daughter-in- law, Jennifer Lake of Lexington; three sisters: Aleen Long of Harrodsburg, Doris Disponett, of Leland, Ill. and Annelle White of Winter Haven, Fla.; a grand son and many nieces and nephews.

Services were conducted Monday, Sept. 19, 2011 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Kenneth Meredith officiating. Burial was in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to ones favorite military organization.

HAROLD LEWIS JR.

Harold Richard “Richie” Lewis Jr., 27, of Mackville, passed away Tuesday morning, September 13, 2001, due to injuries sustained in an automobile collision.

Survivors include: his wife, Billie McCullough Lewi one daughter, Carley Lewis; two sons, Trevor Lewis and Richard Gage Lewis, all at home; his parents, Ricky and Joyce Sparrow Lewis, of Mackville; two brothers, Nicholas Lewis and Justin Lewis, both of Mackville; two sisters, Regina Byrd of Bloomfield and Jessica Staten of Willisburg; his maternal grandmother, Hadgie Sparrow of Mackville; and his paternal grandfather, Ancil Earl "Deanie" Lewis of Mackville

Funeral Services were held Saturday, September 17, at the Cornerstone Christian Church.

Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

BERNIESE MATHERLY

Berniese Sims Matherly, 82, widow of Warren G. Matherly, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born Jan. 6, 1929 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Jeannette Hellard Sims. She was retired from Corning after 36 years and was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church. She enjoyed her flowers, cats, gardening, cooking, baking, housekeeping and attending her grandchildren’s sporting and cheerleading events.

She is survived by a son, Michael D. (Kathy) Matherly of Harrodsburg; a grandson, Brad (Susan) Matherly of Danville; a granddaughter, Lyndsay (Ed) Long of Simpsonville; a great-granddaughter; two great-grandsons and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Warren Bennett “Benny” Matherly; three brothers: William D. Sims, Vernon Lee Sims and Haldon J. Sims and three sisters: Dorothy Sanders, Louise Harlow and DeEtte Darland.

Services were conducted Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Robert DeFoor and Rev. Phil Williams officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Bruce Sims, Lee S. Sanders, Doyle Darland, Jerry Sims, Chip Combs, Brent Combs and Eddie Combs.

Honorary pallbearers were: her grandchildren, Art Freeman, Phillip Young, Marty Montgomery, Ron Ashford, Tony Bugg, Butch Woodard and Joe Stevens.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Harrodsburg Christian Church Landscaping Fund, 305 South Main Street, Harrodsburg, KY 40330 and/or Beyond Measure c/o Harrodsburg Baptist Church, P.O. Box 286, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

THELMA SMITH

Thelma Spaulding Smith, 97, formerly of Harrodsburg, widow of Robert Spaulding, Crockett Phillips and Edward Smith, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at the Westminister Health Care Center in Clarksville, Ind.

Born March 23, 1914 in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late William and Nora Cornish Yocum. She was a former Beaumont Inn employee and a member of the Ellers Memorial Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters: Judy (Ken) Goethe of Saline, Mich. and Joyce (Cecil) Knight of New Albany, Ind.; a son, Robert “Bobby” (Joan) Spaulding of Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Hansford, L.C., Roger and Albert Yocum and two sisters, Emily Yocum and Ressie Conder.

Services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rick Bolton and Kenneth Whitehouse officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Ellers Memorial Church members.

Visitation will be Saturday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Ellers Memorial Baptist Church, 446 Cogar Avenue, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

JOSEPH WHITE

Joseph Bradley White, 46, of Lexington, died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011 at the Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born July 20, 1965 in Lexington, he was the son of Jonathan David and Laura M. Coleman White of Harrodsburg. He was an auto mechanic.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sons: William Kenneth White and James Alexander White, both of Lexington; a stepson, Nicholas Consalvi of Lexington; a sister, Edie A. White Flora of Versailles; a brother, Johnathan David White Jr. of Lexington and a special friend, Jamie Consalvi of Lexington.

Services were conducted Sunday, Sept. 18 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be sent to The American Cancer Society.

JUNE BASTIN

June King Gover Bastin, 67 of Stanford, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the UK Medical Center.

She was born on July 11, 1944 in Harrodsburg, the daughter of the late Curt and John Iva Gover.

June was involved in many civic activities in Lincoln County. Among those were the Fair Board, Fort Logan Hospital Board, Homemakers, Extension Board, Historical Society and the Relay for Life. She was the founder of the Lincoln County Recycle Center and retired as the Solid Waste Coordinator.

Survivors include: her husband of 49 years, Marion Dee Bastin; one daughter, Martha D. Bastin; one son, Martin D. (Angela) Bastin; and two grandsons, Chase and Kelley Bastin.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 27, at the Stanford Baptist Church with Bro. Dale Hunt, Minister of Crab Orchard Christian Church and Bro. Max Hester, Minister of Stanford Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in the Crab Orchard Cemetery.

Pallbearers Include Ronnie Hester, Shelby Reed, David and Dan Grigson, Joe Crain and Ronnie "Buckwheat" Gilbert.

Honorary pallbearers were Ed and Pete Teater, Gary Bastin, Jim W. Gover, Tim Estes and Mike Poynter

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lincoln County Historical Society and the Relay for Life.

McKnight Funeral Home in Crab Orchard was in charge of arrangements.

RICKY BROWN

Ricky Lynn Brown, 57, of Salvisa, died suddenly Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

He was born on Dec. 19, 1953 in Nelson County, son of Margie Wilson Brown of Lawrenceburg and the late Rufus Brown.

Ricky was a member of the Van Buren Baptist Church and attended the Carpenter’s Christian Church in Mercer County. He was a 1972 graduate of Western High School in Anderson County and a forklift operator for Monoplast in Frankfort.

He is survived by: his wife of 36 years, Debra Jean Barnes Brown; one son, Johnny Brown (LaNeen) of Salvisa; one grandson Beau Thomas Brown; one sister, Joyce Sutherland (Kenneth) of Lawrenceburg; and two brothers Donnie Brown (Carol) of Georgetown and Roger Brown (Dorothy) of Anderson County.

Funeral service was conducted Sunday, September 25, at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg with Bro. Greg Warren officiating. Burial followed in Highview Cemetery in Chaplin.

JERRY CARMICKLE

Jerry Stewart Carmickle, 60 of Junction City died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011 in Michigan.

Born March 24, 1951, he was the son of the late Howard Luther and Virginia Louise Douglas Carmickle.

He was a retired truck driver and a US Army veteran.

Survivors include: two sons, Jerry T. (Rachel) Carmickle of Moreland and James L. (April) Carmickle of Southgate, MI; one daughter, Alison (Eric) Pollard of Danville; one brother, James Carmickle of Junction City; two sisters, Irma (Van) Woodrow of Burgin and Lurenda (Frank) Melton of Albany, GA; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Monday, September 26, at the W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland by Bro. Kenneth Smith with burial in Hustonville Cemetery.

LARRY COLEMAN

Larry Coleman, 62, of Boyle County, husband of Jennifer Stout Coleman, died at his residence on Friday, Sept. 23, 2011.

Born Dec. 11, 1949 in Montgomery County, Ohio, he was the son of the late Billy and Nancy Howard Coleman. He was a semi-truck driver, union leader for the teamsters and most recently worked at Spirit Chevrolet in Harrodsburg. He was a Kentucky Colonel and loved to camp, fish, cook, work on electronics and watch Cincinnati Bengals football and NASCAR. He was a little league coach for many years in Mercer County. He preached at many churches in the area and was a member of the Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children: Stephanie (Stephen) Carr of Danville, Sashona (David) Hawkins of Danville, Brian Coleman of Danville, Josh (Kristal) Coleman of Nicholasville and Aaron (Jessica) Coleman of Junction City; a brother, Donnie Coleman of Danville; a sister, Elizabeth (Ron) Parker of Centerville, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a child, Kelly Coleman and a grandchild.

Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 27 at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Allen officiating.

Pallbearers were: Joshua Coleman, Larry Aaron Coleman, David Hawkins, Willy Sherwood, Johnny Dominguez and Tim Coleman.

Honorary pallbearers were: Brian Coleman, Stephen Carr, Billy Hargis and Dr. Shahzad.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to National Kidney Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
