Christine E. Ervin, 72, of Mercer County, died Friday, January 25, 2008 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Born September 9, 1935 in West Liberty, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Edith Goodall Frisby. She was a homemaker and a member of the Worldwide Church of God. She enjoyed square dancing, flower and vegetable gardening, raising chickens and her family.

Survivors include her husband Lewis Kelly of Wilmore, three daughters: Angie and her husband Fred Herald of Mercer County, Sue Dunn of Wilmore, and Sharon and her husband Freddie Boswell of Mercer County. One son Randy Ervin of Mercer County, two brothers: Carrol Eugene Frisby of Burgin and David Frisby of East Bernstadt. Ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive

She was preceded in death by her husband James Travis Ervin, her son Rex Ervin, and her grandson Bryan Scott Boswell.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Dick and Elder John Bailey officiating. Interment will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Travis Boswell, Nathan Lewis, Jamie Abney, Stevie Jewell, Willie Frisby, and Roger Frisby serving as pallbearers.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Adult Day Center and/or Heritage Hospice, P.O. Box 1213, Danville, KY 40423.

Susie Marie Bow Anderson, 70, widow of Vernon Anderson, died Wednesday, January 23, 2008 in Anderson County. Born October 10, 1937 in Cumberland, Colorado she was the daughter of the late Stephen Tyler and Mary Lula King Bow. She was a babysitter and caregiver and a member of Burgin United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women’s Group. She was active in the Mercer Senior Citizens and loved baking.

Survivors include two sons: Stephen Vernon Anderson of Lawrenceburg and Stanley Ray Anderson of Wellington; one brother: Stephen Tyler Bow, Jr. of California; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers Ralph Randall Bow and Russell Leon Bow.

Mrs. Melva L. Riley, 87, of Burgin, widow of Roy D. Riley, died Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center. Born September 27, 1920 in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mimie Katherine Baker Munday. She was a Homemaker, an active and faithful member of the Shawnee Run Baptist Church, the Widow to Widow Group, and W.M.U.

Survivors include her two sons: Jackie Riley of Burgin and Cecil Riley of Harrodsburg. One sister Ruby Milburn of Danville, three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter Joyce Ann Riley and three brothers Roy, Ralph, and Raymond Munday.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the Shawnee Run Baptist Church with Bro. Ralph Neal and Gary Story officiating. Burial will be in Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Saturday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home and 11:00 a.m. until hour of service at the Shawnee Run Baptist Church.

Mr. Cecil Perkins, 86, of Milton, KY, formerly of Mercer County and Lexington, widower of Mildred King Perkins, died Monday, January 21, 2008 at the University of Louisville Medical Center. Born February 14, 1921 in Mercer County he was the son of the late Louis Melt and Frankie Ellen Meadors Perkins. He served in with the U.S. Army during W.W.II. and was a retired journeyman electrician. He was a member of Shawnee Run Baptist Church and attended Milton Baptist Church. He enjoyed bass fishing and was an avid U.K. fan. Survivors include two daughters: Cecile Martin and her husband Doug of Lexington, Phyllis Gayle Davis and her husband Ferrill of Milton; three grandchildren: Ray Davis, Rob Davis and Jason Martin; and one sister: Mrs. Mae Simms of Burgin. Two granddaughters: Michelle Martin and Paige Davis preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Ralph Neal officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with William Ronnie Grimes, Ray Davis, Rob Davis, Earl Campbell, David Perkins and Jason Martin serving as pallbearers and Ferrill Davis and Lee Sharp serving as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until the hour of service at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Cress, Norma Jean

Norma Jean Cress, 48, wife of Leon Cress, Harrodsburg, died Monday, January 14, 2008 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington. Born January 24, 1959 she was the daughter of David Earley of China Grove, North Carolina and the late Linda Beaver Earley. She was a former day care director of Main St. Baptist Church Day Care in China Grove, North Carolina. She was a member of Main Street Baptist Church and enjoyed camping and reading.

Additional survivors besides her husband and father include: one daughter: Amy Cosby of Harrodsburg; two sons: Leon Miles Cress of Wilmore and Jessie Dwayne Cress of Kannapolis, North Carolina; two sisters: Debbie Fields of Richmond and Judy Cornett of Tennessee; ten grandchildren: Amanda Cress, Mark Cosby, Brittany Cosby, Chasity Lacky, Mattison Cress, Jessica Cress, Jaden Cress, Whitney Billings, Aaron Cress and Nicholas Cress.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in North Carolina.

Withers, Mary Agnes Potts

Mrs. Mary Agnes Potts Withers, 93, of Nicholasville, widow of Malcolm C. Withers, died Friday at Royal Manor in Nicholasville. Born January 5, 1915 in Dunnville, she was the daughter of the late Zachary and Lula Hammons Potts. Mrs. Withers was a former nursing assistant. She was an active member in Baptist Churches for year, the last one being Porter Memorial Baptist Church in Lexington where she was an active member until her health became poor.

Survivors include one son: Donald O. Withers (Mary Jane) of Nicholasville, one daughter: Annette McNees (Ben) of Rockwood, TN. Four grandsons Jeff Withers of Lexington, Royce Withers of Wilmore, Blake McNees of Charlotte, N.C. and Lance McNees of Rockwood, TN. A great-grandson Kyle Withers of Campbellsville, several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by two daughters: Sue and Lavern Withers, a granddaughter: Gretta Jane Withers, twelve siblings and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at Brookside Baptist Church in Nicholasville with Rev. Robert Justus and Rev. DeWayne Brewer officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Russell Springs with Rev. Phillip Cooper officiating and Jeff, Royce and Kyle Withers, and Blake and Lance McNees serving as pallbearers.

Mr. Geno Marchioro, 84, died Saturday, December 29, 2007 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center. Born March 4, 1923 in Raton, New Mexico, he was the son of the late Ernest and Nellie Marchioro. He was a retired coal miner, was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of World War II, and was Catholic.

Survivors include his son Gene Ray Marchioro of Montana, one sister Leni Gallesini of Albuquerque, New Mexico, nephew Jimmy Gallesini, special friends: Jack Mattingly and Kathy Smith both of Harrodsburg.

Graveside funeral services with military Honors will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2008 at the Camp Nelson National Cemetery with Father Danny Schwendeman officiating. No visitation will be held.

Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Guillen, Ruth Ann Flynn

Ruth Ann Guillen, 57, wife of Juan Guillen of Mercer County, died Sunday, December 23, 2007 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Born December 19, 1950 in Junction City, she was the daughter of Nola Kidd Flynn of Junction City and the late Luther Flynn. She was a secretary for Trailer Parts & Service in Lawrenceburg and was a member of the Junction City First Baptist Church.

Besides her husband and mother, Ruth is survived by two sons: Stephen Guillen of Danville and Micheal Guillen of Frankfort. Four brothers: Carrol Flynn of Texas, Billy Flynn of Ohio, David Flynn of Sumter, S.C., and James Flynn of Junction City. One sister Betty White of Lindsey, Oklahoma, two grandchildren: Adrian Guillen and Chris Guillen both of Danville. Several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and after 7:00 a.m. Friday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Jean Bottom, 68, widow of Benny Bottom, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. Born July 12, 1940 in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Anna Mae Bugg Gibson. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, a retired Hitachi employee and former Rand McNally employee.

Survivors include five daughters: Sandra Davis of Wichita, Kansas, Kim Bottom of Harrodsburg, Crystal Kiassi of Lexington, Vicki Guzman of London and Sheryl Vaught of Madison, Indiana; two brothers: Roger Gibson of Danville and Dennis Gibson of Bradfordsville; three sisters: Magdalene Bunton of Lexington, Mildred Sharp of Lancaster, and Linda Gibson of Perryville. She was preceded in death by her sister Joyce Day. She has six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2008 at the Spring Hill Cemetery with Bro. James Harley officiating. Shawn Gibson, Kevin Gibson, Mike Gibson, Bobbie Bunton, Brian Sims, and Ray Sivis will be serving as pallbearers and Rick Blaisdell and Taylor Lunsford will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Ruby King Kent, 75, of Louisville, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at the Baptist East Hospital in Louisville. Born October 14, 1932 in Burgin she was the daughter of the late Homer and Mary Harlow King. She was a homemaker, a Baptist, and enjoyed flowers and spending time with her grandchildren and family.

Survivors include two daughters: Debbie and her husband, Dan Handley of Ft. Myers, Florida and Lisa Kent of Louisville; two sisters: Mae Arnett of Louisville and Helen Claunch of Harrodsburg; her grandson Mark and his wife Jill Handley of Louisville; two great-granddaughters: Sydney and Madison Handley and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother Elmer King.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Dan Handley, Mark Handley, Bradley King, and Bill Powers serving as active pallbearers and David Sims and Jerry Person serving as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home in Harrodsburg.

Kelly Dean Rice, 71, husband of Doris “Peggy” Merriman Rice died Monday, May 12, 2008 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington. Born March 2, 1937 in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late John Jackson and Julie Southerland Rice. He was a retired drywall contractor and owner of Rice Drywall, was a founding member of Shelby Baptist Church, a Kentucky Colonel and enjoyed fishing and reading.

Additional survivors besides his wife include sons: Ricky G. Rice and his wife Marie of Harrodsburg and Drew Rice and his wife, Cari of Harrodsburg and Robin Merriman and his wife Jackie, whom he raised as a son, also of Harrodsburg; Jacqueline Darlene Merriman, whom he raised as a daughter; five brothers: Billy Rice of Nancy, Dwain Rice of Liberty, Paul Rice of Moreland, Charles Rice of Corinth, and J.T. Rice of Junction City; his grandchildren: Megan & Ashley Rice and Kellie Renee Schaub, whom he thought of as a granddaughter; three great-grandchildren: Jacob, Jeremy & Jenna Schaub and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his three sisters: Alice Crow, Julie Ann Griffit, and Barbara Sue Rice and his half-brothers and half-sisters.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May, 15, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Morris Trayner, Father John Hall and Dr. Tommy Valentine officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Tim White, Jeff Blankenship, Daniel Moore, Jeff Wilson, Kenny Stratton and Greg Drury serving as pallbearers and Teddy Walker, Ben Henson, Tommy Walker, Scott Bodner, Walter Cummins and Dr. Rick Angel serving as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.
