Ida Thacker
Ida Thacker, 92, of Huddy, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at her residence.

Born September 29, 1912, in Canada, Kentucky, to the late Bud Chapman and Alice May Chapman, she was a homemaker and a member of the Lonesome Dove Old Regular Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sons, James William, Willie, Lenoral and Jim Thacker; five sisters; three brothers; and husband, Willie Thacker.

Surviving are her sons, John Thacker of Slaters Branch, Kentucky, Dan Thacker of Cardington, Ohio, David Thacker of Delaware, Ohio and Joseph Thacker of Huddy, Kentucky; daughters, Rosetta Compton of Delaware, Ohio, Brenda Thacker of Ypsilanti, Mich. and Ella Mae Crossman of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister, Anna Pasquale of Huntington, W.Va.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 3, 2004, 11 a.m., at Lonesome Dove Church, Canada, Kentucky with Raymond Smith, Spencer Hall, Gabe Lowe and Lacy Walters officiating. Burial will follow at the Church cemetery, Canada, Kentucky Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home Wednesday night and after 5 p.m. at Lonesome Dove Church Thursday night. Special services both nights at 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky

Bess Adcock Stultz
Bess Mae Adcock Stultz, 100, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at her daughter's home in Bardstown, Kentucky

Born in Strawberry Plains, Tenn., she spent most of her life in Stone, Kentucky, before moving to Bardstown where she has lived for the last 10 years.

She worked at the Fordson Coal Co. and managed the clubhouse before taking time off to raise her children in Stone, Kentucky She later worked as a receptionist at the Pike County Health Department in Belfry, Kentucky

She was an original member of the Pond Creek Reunion. She was the oldest member of the Bardstown United Methodist Church, and a member of the Stone Chapter of Eastern Start No. 533, Stone Heritage and the Stone Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Maggie Adcock, 13 brothers and sisters, and her husband, John Willis Stultz.

Survivors include her children, Bob (Bo) Stultz of Thorn Grove, Tenn., Mary Jo (Frank) Langford of Aiken, S.C., Jim (Carolyn) Stultz of Glendale, Calif., and Libby (Ben) Burr of Bardstown, Kentucky

She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at the Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, Kentucky, with Darren Brandon of the Bardstown United Methodist Church and J.D. Hall of the Stone United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Kentucky

Friends may call from 3 until 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at the funeral home. Eastern Star services are set for 7 p.m. Sunday evening.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Stone United Methodist Church, 95 Trout Town Lane, Stone, Kentucky, 41567 and Stone Heritage, 1355 Pond Creek Rd., Stone, Kentucky, 41567.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home at Belfry, Kentucky

Julius Prater
Julius Prater, 86, of Shelbiana, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at the Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, Kentucky

He was born April 16, 1918, in Pike County, Kentucky, the son of the late Isaac Rhode and Nellie Miller Prater.

He was a retired coal miner, having been employed by Republic Steel Co.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at the Justice Funeral Home in Pikeville, Kentucky with minister Jimmy Jack Adkins and others officiating. Burial will follow in Annie E. Young cemetery at Shelbiana, Kentucky

Arrangements are under the direction of the Justice Funeral Home in Pikeville, Kentucky

Creesteen McGuire
Creesteen Young McGuire, 64, of Johns Creek Rd., Pikeville, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at the Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born April 4, 1940, in Pike County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Alfred and Betty Thompson Young.

Mrs. McGuire was also preceded in death by her husband, Melvin McGuire; and one brother, Harmon Young.

She was a homemaker and was a member of the Brushy Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Larry Elkins and John David Elkins, both of Sidney, Kentucky, and Ricky Elkins of Varney, Kentucky; three daughters, Cintha Bonecutter of South Point, Ohio, Rachel Allen and Sabrina Ray, both of Johns Creek, Kentucky; four brothers, Junior Young of Williamson, W.Va., Curtis Young of Johns Creek, Kentucky, Malcolm Young of Brushy Creek, Kentucky, and Buddy Young of Hardy, Kentucky; three sisters, Lucy Robinette of Hatfield, Kentucky, Grace Robinette of Brushy Creek, Kentucky, and Bronis Parsons of Gallipolis, Ohio; 15 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at the Pilgrim Home Old Regular Baptist Church with ministers Gary Young, Richard Staton and Jimmy Stanley officiating. Burial will follow in the Young cemetery at Brushy Creek, Kentucky

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, and Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at the church. Special services will be held at 7 p.m. both nights.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Kentucky

Wanda Hall Moore
Wanda Hall Moore, 78, of Beauty, Kentucky, passed away Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at the Williamson ARH Skilled Nursing Facility.

She was born Aug. 15, 1926, in Martin County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Dale and Sadie Newsome Hall.

Mrs. Moore was a homemaker of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her husband, Glen "Buster" Moore of Beauty, Kentucky; two sons, Edward Tyson Preece of Kermit, W.Va., and Jim Preece of Beauty, Kentucky; one daughter, Linda (Cartwe) Messer of Ohio; four brothers, George Hall of Westerville, Ohio, Bill Hall of Cattlesburg, Kentucky, Don Hall and Harlan Hall, both of Paintsville, Kentucky; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home Chapel in Warfield, Kentucky, with the Rev. Lonnie Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher, W.Va.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home in Inez, Kentucky

Harold Stratton II
Harold Dwight Stratton II, 50, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Belfry, Kentucky, passed away November 20, 2004, at Bay Pines VA Medical Center in Florida. He was the son of Lois Pecco Stratton of Clearwater, Fla.

His mother, Lois Pecco Stratton, of Clearwater, Fla., is also formerly of Belfry, Kentucky

The funeral service was held Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, Clearwater, Fla.

Arrangements directed by Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky

Aisel Adkins

Aisel Adkins, 76, of Lookout, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2004, at Pikeville Health Care.

He was born February 22, 1928, in Pikeville, Kentucky, to the late Mack Adkins and Opal Spence Adkins.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 1, 2004, 1 p.m. at Justice Funeral Home, Pikeville, Kentucky with Sam Crawford officiating.

Visitation was held beginning at 6 p.m. Monday and will continue through Tuesday and up until time of service on Wednesday.

Truman Maynard

Truman Maynard, 82, of Forest Hills, Kentucky, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at his residence.

Born June 28, 1922, at Wilsondale, W.Va., he was a son of the late Stumpy Joe and Patsy Mead Maynard.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Maynard was preceded in death by a brother and four grandchildren.

A retired coal miner, he also retired from National Electric Coil Company. Mr. Maynard was a member of the UMWA; Forest Hills Baptist Church; Stone Lodge #890 F & AM; Stone Shrine Club; 32-degree mason and Lexington Scottish Rite.

Survivors include: his wife, Doris J. Bartoe Maynard; three daughters, Donna Sue Clay of Lenore; Nancy Lee Kapousis of McComb County, Michigan and Karen Jean Spradlin of Forest Hills; two sisters, Dicie Kirk of Barboursville, W.Va., and Aline Franklin of Darin, Ga.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at Forest Hills Baptist Church with Carl Hess officiating.

Burial will follow in Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky

DAV rites will be performed by Chapter #141 of the DAV, Belfry, Kentucky

Men of the Forest Hills Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at Forest Hills Baptist Church with Masonic services at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Forest Hills Baptist Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry.

Clyde McCoy

Clyde McCoy, 73, of Belfry, Kentucky, passed away Monday, August 16, 2004, at Williamson Memorial Hospital, Williamson, W.Va.

Born May 12, 1931, in Sharondale, Kentucky, to the late Charley McCoy and Maude Ramey McCoy, he was a retired coal miner with Massey Coal.

Mr. McCoy was a member of United Mine Workers of America, a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the American Legion and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Claude and Buddy McCoy.

Surviving are his son, Freddie Keith McCoy of Belfry, Kentucky; daughter, Belinda Williamson of Canada, Kentucky; brother, Danny McCoy of Belfry, Kentucky; two sisters, Helen McCoy Smith of Williamson, W.Va. and Rita Dehner of Florence, Kentucky; and special niece and nephew, Jordan McCoy and Daleaha McCoy; three grandchildren, Wendi Cook and John and Isaac Williamson; one great grandchild, Mason Washington; and a host of other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, August 19, 2004, at Rogers Funeral Home with Bob Werntz officiating.

Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky DAV rites will be performed by the Belfry Chapter #141 Disabled American Veterans.

His nephews will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers are Woody Lovell, Jerry Stuart, Buddy Williams, Jim Varney, Jimmy Watson, Trey Watson and Saul Williams.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Evelyn Chapman

Evelyn Irene Chapman, 83, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2004, at Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Kentucky

Born April 17, 1921, in Russell, Kentucky, to the late Charles Early and Golda Banks Early, she was a restaurant chef and a homemaker.

Mrs. Chapman was in the U.S. Women's Army Corp, serving during World War II.

She was also a graduate of the American Culinary Institute.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Chapman; three brothers, John, Robert and Richard Early; and a sister, Edith Ginger.

Surviving are her daughter, Katherine Chapman of Williamson, W.Va.; three brothers, William (Marcella) Early of Huntington, W.Va., Ralph (Irma) Early of South Point, Ohio and George (Lois) Early of Ashland, Kentucky; special nieces and nephews, Robert (Patricia) Necessary, Prentiss (Michelle) Ginger, Charles Ginger and Penny Ginger; one grandchild, Richard Chapman of Flatwoods, Kentucky; and special friends, Van Pham, Betty Rose, Maggie Collins, Jennifer Kirk and Amber Tackett.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 21, 2004, 1 p.m., at White Chapel Memorial Gardens Chapel, Barboursville, W.Va. with Pastor Angie Moore officiating.

Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, W.Va.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday at Rogers Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky

Oma Branham

Oma Faye Branham, 72, of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2004, at Pikeville Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 21, 2004, 12 noon, at Bailey Funeral Home with burial following at the Wilson cemetery, Draffin, Kentucky

Visitation will be held at Bailey Funeral Home, after 6 p.m., Thursday.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Inc., Elkhorn City, Kentucky
