Brooxie Goble Maynard

Brooxie Goble Maynard, 88, of Inez, Kentucky, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at Three Rivers Medical Center.

She was born January 14, 1916, at DaVella, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Abraham (Bud) and Sarah Ellen Goble.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leonadus "Doc" Maynard; one son, Larry (Doc) Maynard; one daughter, Lenore Faye Rice; four brothers and six sisters.

Survivors include one son, Paul Blake Maynard of Santa Marion, Calif.; one sister, Beatrice Goble Evans of Inez, Kentucky; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2004, at Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home in Inez.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Sunday, June 6, 2004. Burial will follow in Goble cemetery at Spring Branch of Inez.

Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edward Hall

Edward B. Hall, 61, of Ransom, Kentucky, loving husband, father, papaw, brother and friend, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, June 3, 2004, at his residence.

Born August 6, 1942 in Weeksbury, Kentucky, to the late Ishmal Hall and Lossie Little H all, he was a retired miner from Eastern Coal Company. Mr. Hall was of the Primitive Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Delmas Hall; and sister, Carol Little Endicott.

Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Mable Whitt Hall of Ransom, Kentucky; sons, Kenneth (Tonya) Hall of Ransom, Kentucky and Kevin (Kellie) Hall of Ransom, Kentucky; daughter, Angela (Michael) Joyce of Ransom, Kentucky; sisters, Shirley (Roger) Page of Harold, Kentucky, Sheila (Jim) Dolan of Columbus, Ohio and Kaye Stambaught of Prestonsburg, Kentucky; and grandchildren, Michelle (Kevin) Hensley, Jennifer and Michael Joyce, Samantha, Joey, Tyler and Abigail Hall. He was also anticipating the birth of two great grandchildren. He is survived by very special friends Walter "Weasel" and Cookie Eanes, Eddie Hamilton and Tom Runyon; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 7, 2004, 2 p.m., at First Samaria Primitive Baptist Church at Ransom, Kentucky with Elder Elmer Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Whitt Family cemetery at Ransom, Kentucky

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Michael Joyce, Michael "Bub" Joyce, Walter Eanes, Eddie Hamilton, Tom Runyon, Elmer Smith and Hassell Ball. Active pallbearers are David Akers, James Akers, Cecil Coleman, Darren Owens, Dickie Smith, Kermit Ratliff and Chad Hamilton.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Saturday evening at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Kentucky

Sam Corea

Sam Corea, 83, of South Williamson, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Kentucky.

Born August 20, 1920, in Williamson, W.Va., to the late James Corea, Sr., and Frances Parise Corea, he was retired from the N&S Railway and formerly owned and operated the Terminal Inn in East Williamson.

He was a World War II veteran. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Williamson, a member of the Williamson Moose and Elks Lodges, VFW, DAV and United Methodist Mens Club. He was an avid supporter of the University of Kentucky Boosters Association.

In addition to his parents, was preceded in death by brothers, Frankie Corea and Jimmy Corea; and sisters, Mary Lamanca and Rosa Musico.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Lorrayne Goff Corea; son, Larry Gregory Corea of Raleigh, N.C.; sisters, Teresa Whisman of Bluefield, W.Va., Sue Burnopp of Bluefield Va. and Virginia and Esther McCoy of Williamson, W.Va.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 6, 2004, 2 p.m., at Weaver Mortuary with Rev. Greg Blair officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.

Christine Muncy

Christine Runyon Muncy, 61, of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, went to be with Lord Saturday, June 12, 2004, at her residence with her family by her side.

She was a native of Delbarton.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at the Neal Funeral Home in Catlettsburg with the Rev. Tom Mullins and Pastor Rick Shelby officiating Burial will follow in the Golden Oaks cemetery in Ashland, Kentucky

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, June 14, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society (Ashland Office) 4338 13th St., Ashland, Kentucky 41102.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Neal Funeral Home.

Lester Henson

Lester E. Henson, 74, of Ashcamp Road, Elkhorn City, Kentucky, died on Saturday, June 12, 2004, at the Pikeville (Kentucky) Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at the Poorbottom Freewill Baptist Church in Lookout, Kentucky Burial will follow in the Childers cemetery in Ashcamp, Kentucky

Visitation is at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Bailey Funeral Home.

Edgar Hawkins

Edgar Hawkins, 65, of Lower Pigeon Road, Ashcamp, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 5, 2004, 1 p.m., at Hylton Freewill Baptist Church, Ashcamp, Kentucky with burial following at the Roy Hawkins Family cemetery, Ashcamp, Kentucky

Visitation will be held at Bailey Funeral Home, after 6:30 p.m., Thursday evening.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Inc., Elkhorn City, Kentucky

Richard Miller

Richard D. Miller, 57, of Rogersville, Tenn., formerly of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, died Friday, June 11, 2004, at Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, Tenn.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Monday, June 4, 2004, at Bailey Funeral Home, Elkhorn City.

Burial will follow in Davidson Memorial Gardens at Allen, Kentucky

Visitation will begin at noon, Saturday, June 12, 2004, at the Bailey Funeral Home chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

Stella Scott

Stella Scott, 89, of Scottsdale, Ariz., passed away May 30, 2004.

Mrs. Scott, a homemaker, was born February 23, 1915 in Pike County, Kentucky She married her husband, Lawrence B. Scott, who preceded her in death, on November 10, 1931.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Davie Lee and Florence Amy Ray Scott of Scottsdale and her grandchildren, Amy Metcalfe (and her husband, Jason) of Tucson and Rhonda Lynch (and her husband John) of Scottsdale.

Visitation will be held from 66 - 8 p.m., Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Geeen Acres Chapel of Light, 401 N. Hayden Rd., Scottsdale, Ariz.

Concluding services will be held in Columbus, Ohio. Green Acres Mortuary is entrusted with local arrangements.

Thomas Young

Thomas Young, 75, of Road Fork, Sidney, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at his residence.

The son of the late James Kenley and Dixie Pinson Young, he is survived by his wife, Luola Ray Young; a daughter, Sharon Kay Williams; son, Gary K. Young, all of Sidney; five grandchildren, Brent Biliter, Jason Clark, Aaron Clark, Lisa M. Young and Christopher E. Young; and great-granson, James Dalton Biliter.

He was a member of Stone Lodge No. 890 F&AM, El Hasa Shrine and Kentucky Colonel.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, June 4, 2004, with Pastor Dennis Smith of the Bells of Joy Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Kentucky, with Masonic graveside rites.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held at Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, Kentucky, at 6 p.m., Thursday evening.

Dwayne Coleman

Dwayne Edward Coleman, 40, of Irvine, Kentucky, formerly of Pike County, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Marcum Wallace Hospital in Irvine, Kentucky

Born November 6, 1963, in Pike County, Kentucky, to the late Homer Coleman and Virginia Warrner Coleman, he was a heavy equipment mechanic.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jimmy Glen, Daryl Lee and Danny Gene Coleman.

Surviving are his wife, Teresa Lynn Adkins Coleman; one daughter, Crystal Lynn Coleman of the home; one brother, Randy Keith Coleman of Irvine, Kentucky; and one sister, Brenda Damron of Morristown, Tenn.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 4, 2004, 2:30 p.m., at McVeigh United Pentecostal Church with Joe Crum officiating. Burial will follow at Coleman cemetery, Sidney, Kentucky Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Thursday at the McVeigh United Pentecostal Church with special services Thursday night at 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky

Anna Young

Anna Cordellia Young, 65, of Hardy, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky

Born May 4, 1939, in McCombs, Kentucky, to the late Boney Blankenship and Clara McCoy Blankenship, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Young was a member of Hardy Church of Christ.

Surviving are her husband, Buddy Lee Young of Hardy, Kentucky; son, Kevin Lee Young of Hardy, Kentucky; daughter, Anita Carol Maynard of Turkey Creek, Kentucky; brothers, Tommy (Vicky) Jude of Harrodsburg, Kentucky and Robert (Anna Mae) Blankenship of Big Creek, Kentucky; sisters, Gail (Arnold) Owens of Huddy, Kentucky, Ethel (Lester) Smith of Huddy, Kentucky, Irene (Sammy) Maynard of Toler, Kentucky and Dueley (Charles) Lucas of Hudson, N.C.; step-brothers, Ray Jude of Cleveland, Ohio, Harold (Fern) Jude of Chattaroy, W.Va. and Jack (Sylvia) Jude of Rogersville, Tenn.; two step-sisters, Audrey Trout of Sidney, Kentucky and Jean (Starky) Staten of Slaters Branch, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Mary Ann Young, Cody Lee Young and Shawn Kenneth Maynard; one aunt, Claudia Blackburn of Hardy, Kentucky and one uncle, Donnie McCoy of Michigan.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 4, 2004, 11 a.m., at Rogers Funeral Home with Ed Lockard officiating. Burial will follow at the Alfred Young cemetery, Varney, Kentucky Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Rogers Funeral Home.

Ollie Peatross

Ollie Mae Smith Pennington Peatross, 86, of Goody, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ, Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Appalachian Regional Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility, South Williamson, Kentucky

Born February 3, 1918, in East Williamson, W.Va., to the late Frank C. Smith and Rebecca Smith Smith, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Peatross was a missionary for the church of the Lord Jesus Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, George Pennington and Frank Clifton Peatross; brothers, Thurman, John and Willie Smith; sisters, Martha Evans and Florence Ball; and nephew, Willie Ralph Smith.

Surviving are her son, Frankie Darrel Smith Pennington (Lisa) whom she adopted and raised as her own, of Wayne, W.Va.; grandsons, George (Dawn) Pennington and Matthew (Jessica) Pennington; step grandson, Edward Jackson; great grandchildren, Barry Keith Pennington, Jr., Joseph Dalton Young, Brandon Tyler Hackney, Carissa Paige Barker, Jordan Bradley Pennington, and Pamela Morgan Pennington; sister, Julie Smith, and family, of Phelps, Kentucky; niece, Janet (Herman) Stanley of Goody, Kentucky with whom she made her home; great nephews, Roy Allen, Victor Elmer Smith, Myran Eric (Regina, Velma, Eric) Staff of Lenore, W.Va., Timothy Craig (Kim, Timothy II, Leah, Bryson, Joshua and Gideon) Starr of Old Field Branch, W.Va. and William Christopher (Rhonda Hudson) Edwards of Delbarton, W.Va.; great niece, Jennifer Mae Starr (Capt. Gregory) Lueders of Germany; nephew, David Herald (Bonnie, William Lewis, Kathy) Smith; special niece, Mary Sue Mullins of Cleveland, Ohio; and a host of much loved family and friends.

Graveside services will be held Friday, June 11, 2004, 2 p.m., at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Maher, W.Va. with Rev. Ervin Fields officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers are Frankie Darrell Smith Pennington, Tim Starr, Joshua Starr, Gideon Starr, Myran Starr, Eric Starr, Bill Edwards and George Edward Pennington.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 10, 2004, at the mortuary.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.

Ruth Curtis

Ruth Ilene Elder Curtis, 85, of Brodhead, Kentucky, formerly of Huntington, W.Va., died Sunday, May 30, 2004, in Rock Castle Health and Rehabilitation Center, Brodhead.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Chapman's Mortuary with burial following in Woodmere Memorial Park. Rev. Dr. John R. Sauvage will officiate.

She was born July 5, 1918, in Cabell County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Lyle and Spicy Jane Colley Warren. Also preceding her in death was her first husband, Howard Eugene Elder; her second husband, Ray Curtis; two sisters; and a brother. She was a homemaker.

Surviving include three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Eugene and Suzie Elder of Ekron, Kentucky; Jerry David and Pearl Elder of Ney, Ohio; and James Andrew and Toni Elder of Livingston, Kentucky; one half sister, Freda Lee Warren Ross of West Virginia; fourteen grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

Friends may call from 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
