Edna Kitchen

Edna Marie (Varney) Kitchen, 80, of Leesville, S.C., formerly of Turkey Creek, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord on July 12 at the home of George and Jane Curry with whom she resided the last seven years.

She was born March 26, 1924 at Couder, Kentucky, daughter of the late Henry Thomas Varney and Quinnie (Runyon) Varney.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Kitchen; brothers, Ballard Thomas and Bobby Gene Varney; sisters, Hazel and Hattie Varney and Sally Johnson; grandchildren, James H. (Chip) Kitchen, Amy Michelle Kitchen and Melinda Jones; and great-grandchildren, Brandon and Alison Marie Coffey.

She was a member of the Turkey Creek Freewill Baptist Church. She was retired from ARH with 24 1/2 years service. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.

Survivors include sons, James (Margaret) Kitchen of Leesville, S.C., Jerry Kitchen of Arlington, Tex. and Billy (Joyce) Kitchen of Hindman, Kentucky; daughters, Linda (Buddy) Jones and Jane (George) Curry of Leesville, S.C., Brenda Sue Smith of Williamson, Patricia Jean (James) Varney of Turkey Creek; one brother, Bill (Betty) Varney of Batesburg, S.C.; three sisters, Ethel Grace (Alvery) Smith of Sidney, Kentucky, Peggy Dean (Miles) Skeens of Pikeville, Kentucky, and Rita Ann (Bob) Carpenter of St. Albans, W.Va.; grandchildren, Rhonda Howell, Mark, John and Todd Kitchen, David and Alan Jones, George Curry Jr., Lisa Marie Shealy, Dannie and James Coffey, Belinda Stigall and Michelle Varney; 11 great-grandchildren; special brother and sister-in-law, Ruben (Nellie) Kitchen of Ashland, Kentucky, and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday at Rogers Funeral Home with Freewill Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith cemetery, Sidney. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday at Rogers Funeral Home with special services at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The family wishes to thank Hospice Care of Tri-County, Columbia, S.C., Lisa Carter, Missy McCawley and Delores Gaulman.

Rogers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Esta Lowe

Esta Loucille Webb Lowe, 76, of Turkey Creek, Kentucky, passed away Monday, July 12, 2004, at Williamson Memorial Hospital.

Born November 28, 1927, in Pike County, Kentucky, to the late William Condor Webb and Sadie Reed Webb, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Lowe was a member of Rogers Park Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and one grandchild.

Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Bobby L. Lowe of Turkey Creek; sons, Jimmy Dean Lowe of LaGrange, Kentucky and Bobby Lindell Lowe of Turkey Creek; daughters, Carol Sue Curry of Turkey Creek, Patricia A. Willingham of Turkey Creek and Tamie L. Scott of Piedmont, S.C.; brothers, John D. Webb of Allen, Kentucky, Bill Webb of Varney, Kentucky, Dorris Webb of Chesapeake, Ohio and Ronnie Webb of Paintsville, Kentucky; sisters, Marcella Stanley of Brushy Creek, Kentucky and Mary Ruth Maynard of Wyandotte, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 15, 2004, 11 a.m., at Rogers Funeral Home, with Rocky Layne officiating. Burial will follow at Lowe Family cemetery, Cold Fork, Turkey Creek. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Wednesday at Rogers Funeral Home with special services at 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Kentucky

Rose Martin
Rose Martin, 64, of Powells Creek, Kentucky, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at the Pikeville (Kentucky) Medical Center.

She is the daughter of the late Ballard and Minnie Thacker Adkins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Bradley Keith Childers and Greg Childers; two brothers, Cletus Adkins and Ballard Adkins Jr.; and one sister, Christene Adkins.

She is survived by her husband, Billie Harvey Martin; one son, Michael Childers of Biggs Branch, Pikeville; two daughters, Barbara Thacker of Shelbiana, Kentucky, and Rita (Billy R.) Martin of Meta, Kentucky; five brothers, Billy Gene Adkins of Rockford, Ill., Harold Adkins of Harold, Kentucky, Ronnie Adkins and Donnie Adkins, both of Shelbiana; five sisters, Madeline Thacker of Greasy Creek, Kentucky, Mary Dale Jones of Harolds Branch, Kentucky, Shirley Bentley of Shelbiana, Linda Morrison of Chloe Road, Pikeville, and Evelyn May of Raccoon, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Tommy Thacker, Jeffery Thacker, Kevin Martin, Bradley Childers, Melissa Dillon, Stephanie Martin and Brandon Martin; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Sunday, July 25, 2004, at the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home chapel with Clayman Adkins, Bobbie Ray Robinson, Harvilla Adkins and others officiating.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday, July 23, and Saturday, July 24, at the funeral home with services nightly at 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville, Kentucky

Bobby Swiney
Bobby Gene Swiney, 63, of Somerset, Kentucky, formerly of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, in Somerset.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 24, 2004, at the Bailey Funeral Home in Elkhorn City. Burial will be follow at the Swiney Family cemetery in Center Creek, Kentucky DAV rites will be performed by Elkhorn City Chapter 140 DAV.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Friday, July 23, at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Bailey Funeral Home.

Jack Cline
Jack Cline, 82, of Winchester, Kentucky, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at his residence

He was born in Martin County, Kentucky, on Jan. 27. 1922, to the late Herbit and Nola Penix Cline Sr.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by on son, Jack Whitney Cline; three daughters, Sharon Cline, Susan Cline and Sarah Cline; four brothers, John Cline, Charles C. Cline, Herbert "Hub" Cline and Joe Cline; and one sister, Vivian Elkins.

He is survived by his wife, Fannie Cline; two sons, Eric Cline of Lexington, Kentucky, and Michael Cline of Inez, Kentucky; and three sisters, Oletta Slone of Lovely, Kentucky, Juanita Hatfield of Winchester and Jean Melmige of Williamson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 24, 2004, at the Calvary Temple Church in Lovely, Kentucky, with Arnold Damron and Larry Goss officiating. Burial will follow at the Cline cemetery in Inez, Kentucky

Pallbearers will be Herbert B. Cline III, Rod Cline, Timothy Collins, Stan Elkins, Kipper Melmige, John L. Cline, Grant Boston, Michael Brewster, Jack Cline and Larry Cline.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday, July 23, at the church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps and Son Funeral Home of Inez.

Thelma Tiller

Thelma Tiller, 88, of Forest Hills, Kentucky, passed away Monday, July 12, 2004, at Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Kentucky

born September 30, 1915, in Martin County, Kentucky, to the late Frank Delong and Fannie Delong, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Tiller was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, John W. and Richard L. Delong; brothers, John, Bill, Tilon (Baba) and Frank Delong, Jr.; sisters, Janie Goble, Vernie Moore, Rosie Preece, Maggie Govern; and her two husbands, Domenica D'Agostino and Tuness Tiller.

Surviving are her daughters, Lee Ann (David) Wagner of Italy, Tex. and Rosa D'Agostino of Forest Hills, Kentucky; brothers, Howard Delong of Ohio and Arthur Delong of Indiana; sisters, Georgie (George) Smith of Chapmanville, W.Va., Garnet Maynard of Columbus, Ohio, Emile Kiper of Louisville, Kentucky and Stella (Ben) Lepo of Baltimore, Md.; and one grandson, Michael David Wagner of Italy, Tex.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 14, 2004, 11 a.m., at Weaver Mortuary with Rev. Ron Sanger officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview cemetery, Williamson, W.Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, July 13, 2004, 6 - 9 p.m. at the mortuary.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson, W.Va.

Edna Kitchen

Edna Marie Kitchen, 80, of Leesville, S.C., formerly of Turkey Creek, Kentucky, passed away Monday morning, July 12, 2004, at the home of her daughter, Janie Curry, in South Carolina.

Jack Cline
Jack Cline, 82, of Winchester, Kentucky, formerly of Lovely, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2004.

Eugene Stepp
Eugene "Tug Boat" Stepp, 67, of Sidney, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.

Born March 27, 1937, in Pike County, Kentucky, to the late Julius Stepp and Inis Staton Stepp, he was a former captain of a river boat and coal barge pilot. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Bevins.

Surviving are his sons, Larry Michael Stepp and Gene Arthur Stepp; sisters, Ernestine Maynard of Sidney, Kentucky and Mrs. Charles (Anna Sue) Stewart of Canada, Kentucky

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 24, 2004, 11 a.m., at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Gary Stewart and Tim Yates officiating. Burial will follow at the Stepp cemetery at Hatfield, Kentucky Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday evening with services at 7 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Kentucky

Betty Sullivan

Betty Sue Hayes Sullivan, 67, of Phelps, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2004, at her home.

Born December 20, 1936, in Johnson Bottom, Kentucky, to the late Jay Hayes and Myrtle O'Brien Hayes, she was a homemaker. She was of the Apostolic faith and a member of the Church of God in Jesus Name at Phelps, Kentucky

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Alena Rhea Young; brother, Danny M, Hayes "Booney"; grandson Gregory Bruce Dotson; and nephew, Thomas Paul Diamond.

Surviving are her husband, Harold Sullivan of Phelps, Kentucky; sons, Barry Sullivan (Loreen) of Phelps, Kentucky and Danny Jay Sullivan (Christy) of Phelps, Kentucky; daughters, Sue Ellen Dotson (Bruce) of Phelps, Kentucky and Jennifer Scott (Tommy) of Stanton, Kentucky; brother Carl Hayes of Phelps, Kentucky; sister, Mabel McKinney of Elkhorn City, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Larry Joe, Loressia, Faith, Brent, Caleb and Jada; five great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Dalton, Alyssa, Lauren Jo and Keaton; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will beheld Sunday, July 4, 2004, 1 p.m., at Church of God in Jesus Name at Phelps, Kentucky, with Rev. Opie R. Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Billy Dotson cemetery at Phelps, Kentucky

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will begin Friday, July 2, 2004, at the church at 6 p.m. with services at 7 p.m. nightly.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Services, Inc. of Matewan, W.Va. and Phelps Funeral Services, Inc., of Phelps, Kentucky

Elder Eldon Thacker

Elder Eldon Thacker, 78, of Mount Sterling, Kentucky, and a former resident of Phyllis, Pike County, Kentucky, died Thursday morning, July 1, 2004, at the home of his daughter, Brenda Hess in Mount Sterling.

He was born in Pike County on September 20, 1925, the son of the late William Green Thacker and Dora Thacker.

Visitation for Mr. Thacker will be Friday, July 2, 2004 and Saturday, July 3, 2004, from 6 - 10 p.m. with nightly services at 7 p.m. in the Thacker Memorial Funeral Chapel, Hambley Boulevard, Pikeville, Kentucky

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 4, 2004, in the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Monroe Justice, Paul Dean Justice, Mike Smith, Mike Elswick, Noah Slone and Robert Worrix officiating. Burial will follow in the Phillips/Justice cemetery, Kimper, Kentucky

Stallard Reynolds
Stallard Reynolds, 69, of Phelps, Kentucky, died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Kentucky

Born December 20, 1934, he was the son of the late Walter and Octavia Stanley Reynolds.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Reynolds was preceded in death by his stepmother, Hazel Reynolds.

He was disabled.

Survivors include: a sister, Genevie (Link) Rutherford of Huddy, Kentucky; three nephews, Walter (Luanna) Rutherford, Tim (Mildred) Rutherford and Michael (Elaine) Rutherford, all of Huddy and a very special cousin, Floe Hensley of Hardy, Kentucky

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2004, at the Rogers Funeral Home chapel, Belfry, Kentucky, with Buddy Kendrick officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy.

Pallbearers will be Walter Rutherford, Tim Rutherford, Michael Rutherford, Calan Rutherford, Joseph Todd Longacre and Luke Alley.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. ­ 2 p.m., Sunday at the funeral chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Rogers Funeral Home.
