YATES, J. Garland age 83 of Belfast, Virginia died early Monday evening in a Bristol, Virginia hospital. He was the son of the late John and Emma Yates and a retired farmer and a former Dickenson County resident. He is survived by his wife, Alafair (Counts) Yates, Belfast, Virginia; one daughter: Dimple Yates of Falls Church, Virginia; 8 sons: Ola and Wilson of Atlanta, Ga; Garmon of Middleton, Virginia; John of Haysi, Virginia; Joe of Hodges, Alabama; Garner of Chambersburg, Penn; Bobby, Belfast, Virginia; Charles, Cleveland, Virginia; 2 sisters: Mrs. Itley McCoy, Clintwood, Virginia; Mrs. Texas Yates, Detroit, Michigan; 2 brothers: Herbert and Claude Yates both of Kingsport, Tenn. Joined the Sand Lick Primitive Baptist Church in September 1967.

DEEL, Fred was born: July 20 1918 died: Jan 23 1979; the son of the late William Riley Deel and Ferby Bessie Fuller of Pilgrim's Knob. His entire life was spend as a resident of Buchanan Co., Virginia; married : Alta Jane DEEL, April 20 1945 the daughter of Joshua Deel, Haysi, Virginia and the late Beulah Deel; 11 children; 7 boys: Armis, Veneable, Leon, Fred Allen, Troy, Ritchie, and Jeffrey; 4 girls: Venice, Dinah, Evelyene, and Wanetta; also leaves 6 sisters: Ellen Cole, Lillie McClanahan, Ida Deel, Flora Rife, Gertrude Ward, and Thelma Horn; 3 brothers: Byrd, Arnold and Trinkle Deel; 2 sisters and one brother deceased. He was a disabled coal miner since 1966, at which time he suffered the first of his 3 heart attacks.

HESS, Tobe age 101 of Stephenson died Friday at home after a long illness. Born February 15 1877 in Russell Co, Virginia, he was the son of the late John Hess. A resident of Stephenson for 45 years, Mr. Hess was a member of the Baptist Church and was a retired coal miner. Surviors include 3 daughters: Flossie Gree and Beatrice Martin both o f Arkansas and Agnes Rooke of Kansas; 3 sons: Tencil Hess and Martin Hess both of Stephenson and Nathan Hess of Indian Gap, Virginia, 85 grandchildren, 53 ggrandchildren and 38 gggrandchildren. Graveside services will be held Tueday at 2:30, in the Fletcher Ridge cemetery in Buckhannon, Virginia. Taken from local paper.
