Camilla J. Grimes, 62

Camilla J. Grimes, 62, of Eddyville, died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at 11:40 p.m. at Hilltop Nursing Home in Kuttawa.

A retired beautician, former owner of Lyon County Florist and a member of Victory Baptist Church, he was a daughter of the late Woodson Hamilton and Sybil Stone Surber.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Grimes, in 1997; her foster father, James Bailey; and her stepmother, Betty East.

Survivors include a daughter, Sara Gray of Kuttawa; a grandson, Taylor Gray of Kuttawa; a foster brother, James Paul Bailey of Eddyville; her foster mother, Marzee Bailey of Eddyville; a sister, Norma P’Pool of Fredonia; a half-brother, Tony Hamilton of Cadiz; and two half-sisters, Nancy Ramey and Sue Joslin, both of Princeton.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 11, at 11 a.m. at Dunn’s Funeral Home in Eddyville with the Rev. Nathan Rogers officiating.

Burial will follow in Rolling Hills cemetery in Lyon County.

William Garnett Traylor, 75

William Garnett Traylor, 75, of Princeton, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at 2:10 p.m. at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, following a long illness.

A retired motel owner-operator, U.S. Air Force veteran, member of Second Baptist Church of Princeton, Clinton Masonic Lodge #82, Eastern Star #315, V.F.W., American Legion, Elks and a Shriner, he was born Oct. 6, 1927, in Caldwell County, a son of the late Charlie and Maggie Stone Traylor. He served on the Princeton City Council for a number of years and formerly operated Parkway Motel and Traylor’s Steakhouse in Princeton.

Survivors include his wife, Hilda Harper Traylor; a daughter, Esther Stevenson of Princeton; and two grandsons, Mason and Matthew Stevenson.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 11, at 2:30 p.m at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton with Dr. Jerrell White officiating.

Burial will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery in Princeton.

Lilly Eufaula McConnell, 88

Lilly Eufaula McConnell, 88, of Hopkinsville, died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at 10:45 p.m., at Hopkinsville, following a long illness.

A retired elementary school teacher, member of First Baptist Church of Hopkinsville, Eastern Star, where she was a past matron, and the Retired Teachers Association, she was born April 11, 1915, at Russellville, a daughter of the late Alton M. and Della Doss Harvill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Harold “Sam” McConnell in 1995; and a son, James Harvill McConnell.

Survivors include two sons, William H. McConnell of Hopkinsville and Thomas A. McConnell of Lexington; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Alton Harvill Jr.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 16, at 2 p.m. at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home in Hopkinsville. Dr. Rodney Travis will officiate.

Burial will follow in Riverside cemetery at Hopkinsville.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 15, at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the First Baptist Church Renovation Fund of Hopkinsville, Ky. 42240.

Mrs. Georgie Williamson, 84

Mrs. Georgie Williamson, 84, of Princeton, died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at 5:45 p.m. at Caldwell County Hospital in Princeton, following a long illness.

A member of Calvary Baptist Church and retired assembly line worker at Thomas Industries, she was born Oct. 4, 1918, in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late George Harvey and Nettie Ann Oliver Gilkey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Williamson.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Richard Burchett of Caldwell County; a stepdaughter, Inell Woolwine of Lyon County; two grandchildren, Barry Burchett and Cheryl LeBlanc; six stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 11, at 1 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. J.R. Bruce officiating, assisted by the Rev. Ronnie Hooks.

Burial will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery in Princeton.

Sandra Walls, 45

Sandra Walls, 45, formerly of Princeton, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at 9:25 p.m. at her home in Morganfield, following a short illness.

An employee at Rayloc in Morganfield and a member of First Pentecostal Church of Morganfield, she was born Sept. 28, 1957, in Bloomington, Ind., a daughter of Leona Foreman Campbell in Bloomington, Ind., and the late Clyde Campbell.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Steven Campbell.

Survivors in addition to her mother include her husband, Dennis Walls; two sons, Jason Walls of Princeton and Joshua Walls of Morganfield; two brothers, David Campbell of Stanford, Ind., and Mark Campbell of Unionville, Ind.; and a sister, Lisa Stancombe of Bloomingon, Ind.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 14, at 2:30 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton with the Bro. Joel Harper officiating, assisted by Bro. Terry Phelps.

Burial will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery in Princeton.

Pallbearers will be David Walls Jr., Willis Scott Walls, Shawn Walls, Cody Walls, Ryan Walls and Oscar Walls.

Katie Darnell, 19

Katie Darnell, 19, of Princeton, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at 8:05 p.m. at her home, following a long illness.

A member of Northside Baptist Church, she was born Oct. 20, 1983, in Nashville, Tenn., a daughter of Don and Margaret Darnell of Princeton.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Megan Price Darnell.

Survivors in addition to her parents include her maternal grandmother, Margueritte Fox of Kuttawa; paternal grandmother, Arrietta Russell of Princeton; and two brothers, Russell Darnell and Matthew Darnell, both of Princeton.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 16, at 3 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church in Princeton with the Rev. Tommy Tackett officiating.

Burial will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Northside Baptist Church.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, 2424 Garland Ave., Nashville, Tenn. 37212.

Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton is in charge of arrangements.

Bro. Louard Owen Boyd, 74

Bro. Louard Owen Boyd, 74, of the Fairview Church Community of Caldwell County, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at 4:35 p.m. at Caldwell County Hospital in Princeton, following a long illness.

A retired self-employed contractor and minister, he was born Feb. 18, 1929, in Caldwell County, a son of the late Charlie Owen Boyd and Lucy Mae Hopper Boyd McNeely.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Linda Puckett Boyd; three sons, Barry Alan Boyd of Chicago, Ill., Gary Owen Boyd of Utica, and Louard Owen Boyd Jr. of Nashville, Tenn.; three daughters, Kimberly Reneé Moore of Benton, Melinda Rachelle Boyd and Amanda Raye Hughes, both of Princeton; two stepsons, Tony Adkins and Steve Adkins, both of Hawesville; 12 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Deward Boyd of Princeton; four sisters, Velma Stallins of Princeton, Yvonne Howard and Wanda Etheridge both of Earlington, and Jerri Chandler of Bowling Green; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 18, at 2:30 p.m. at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.

Burial will follow in Fairview Church cemetery in Caldwell County.

James H. Callis, 76

James H. Callis, 76, of Eddyville, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at 11:10 a.m. at River’s Bend Retirement Center in Kuttawa.

A retired employee of Wright’s Office Machine Sales and Service in Paducah, member of Eddyville United Methodist Church, Joppa Masonic Lodge 167 in Eddyville, Rispah Temple in Madisonville, and a Kentucky Colonel, he was past president of Kentucky Travelers Motorcycle Club, a veteran of both World War II and Korean War, serving in both the Navy and Army and was a member of Twin Cities Lion Club in Eddyville and Methodist Men’s Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roye H. Callis and Rebecca Frances Wilson Callis.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Mary Nutter Callis; five brothers, George Callis of Chandler, Ind.; Earl Callis of Phoenix, Ariz.; Alfred Calls of Centerton, Ind.; and Arvil Callis and Arthur Callis, both of Boonville, Ind.; five sisters, Mildred Stork of Ft. Smith, Ark., Clara May Robbins and Mary Heidorn, both of Evansville, Ind., Ruth Keethers of Tennyson, Ind., and Naomi Splittorff of Elbertfield, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 17, at 2 p.m. at Koehler Funeral Home in Boonville, Ind.

The Rev. Bob Bouser officiated the service, assisted by the Rev. Steve McVay.

Burial followed in Mt. Olive cemetery in Linnville, Ind., with military services conducted.

Masonic services were conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 15, at Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville.

Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville was in charge of local arrangements.

Esta Marie Jones, 83

Esta Marie Jones, 83, of Fredonia, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at 2:20 p.m. at Caldwell County Hospital in Princeton.

A member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Marion, she was a daughter of the late Clyde “Lydie” and Annie Agner Summers.

She was preceded in death by eight brothers and a sister.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, James T. Jones of Fredonia; two sons, John Pollock of Akron, Ohio, and Jimmy D. Jones of Newburg, Ind.; three daughters, Barbara Meredith of Eddyville, Sandra Joiner of Alexander City, Ala., and Mary Faulkner of Kenton, Del.; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Summers of Clarksburg, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 18, at 4 p.m. at Dunn’s Funeral Home in Eddyville.

Dean Sharp will officiate the service.

Burial will follow in Dycusburg cemetery.

Samuel Owen Ruth Sr., 71

Samuel Owen Ruth Sr., 71, of Wilson, N.C., died Friday, June 13, 2003, at Duke University Medical Center, following a brief illness.

Born July 14, 1931, a son of the late Samuel Edward and Laura Sparks Ruth, he grew up in Florence, Ala., where he graduated from Coffee High School in 1949; served in the U.S. Air Force immediately after high school and then attended Auburn University, graduating with a degree in engineering in 1955. He retired in 1989, following a distinguished career in business and manufacturing, having worked for the Olin Corporation and Arvin Industries, and spent the last eight years of his career in Taiwan. He then moved to North Carolina and was an active member of the community. A member of the Wilson Rotary Club, the First United Methodist Church, he was a former member of the boards of the Wilson Symphony Orchestra, the Wilson Airport Authority, the Friends of the Elizabeth II and Diversified Opportunities.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Feby William Ruth; and a daughter-in-law, Toni Talmage Ruth.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Cromwell Barley Ruth; a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Ruth Cash and Dr. James Cash of Wilson, N.C.; and a son, Samuel Owen Ruth Jr. of Columbus, Ind.; four stepchildren and spouses, Rick and Dianne Barley Martin and James and Linda Barley Ray of Florence, Ala., Martha and Wayne Barley of Hillsboro, Mo.; and Tina and Mark Barley of Millbrook, Ala.; 10 grandchildren, James, Libby and Will Cash, Talmage and Sam Ruth III, Brian Whitlock, Rebecca Sullivan, Breece and Bradley Barley and Christopher Ray; two brothers, William Weaver Ruth of Vacaville, Calif. and Joseph Sparks Jones of Florence, Ala.

His interests included music, reading, travel, flying, boating, woodworking and bowl turning.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 16, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Wilson, N.C.

Dr. William Presnell officiated the service.

Burial will follow on Wednesday, June 18, at 11 a.m. at the Florence City cemetery in Florence, Ala.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Wilson Rotary Club, c/o Janet Beaman, P.O. Box 3525, Wilson, N.C. 27895, or the First United Methodist Church of Wilson, N.C. 27895.

Joyner’s Funeral Home, Inc. in Wilson, N.C., was in charge of arrangements.
