Ms. Joyce Jackson, 81, of Madisonville, KY died at 8:59 A.M. Sunday, January 8, 2006, at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.

Born October 24, 1924 in Madisonville, KY she was the daughter of the late Whitnell H. Jackson and Richey Hazel Chappelle Jackson.

She was a retired bank secretary, having worked for the Kentucky Bank & Trust Co. She was a member of the Madisonville First Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 11, 2006, at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Leonard officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows cemetery.

Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. Wednesday until service time.

Memorials may take the form of donations to First Baptist Church.

Dr. William F. Smith Jr.

Dr. William F. Smith, Jr., 64, of Madisonville, KY and formerly of Murray, KY, died Sunday, January 8, 2006, at his residence.

Born December 14, 1941 in Hodgenville, KY. He was the son of William Freeman Smith and Martha Jane Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Russell Warren Moore and one granddaughter, Kelly Renee Opp.

He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from Murray State University in 1964 and his PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Kentucky in 1968. He taught physics and computer science at Murray State University from 1968 to 1973 and from 1976 to 1989, working at Sperry Rand in Huntsville, AL from 1973 to 1976. He worked for Lockheed at the Stennis Space Center in Hancock County, MS from 1989 until 2004. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Murray.

Surviving are one daughter, Lynne Vincent of Bremen, KY; one son, Dr. William Freeman Smith, III of Madisonville; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Jane Smith and Mary Elizabeth Smith of Murray, KY and two brothers, Sydney Smith and Roy Smith.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in Madisonville with the Reverend Brian Morse officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood cemetery in Earlington, KY.

Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. Saturday.

Memorials may take the form of donations to: MSU Foundation, Dr. William F. Smith, Jr. Endowed Scholarship, Murray State University, 106 Development Center, Murray, KY 42071

Mr. Ernest Paul Morgan

Mr. Ernest Paul Morgan, 88, of Madisonville, KY died at 1:45 P.M. Friday, January 6, 2006 at the Regional Medical Center.

Born October 30, 1917 in Christian County, KY he was the son of the late John and Jennie Morgan. He was also preceded in death by one son, Glenn Allen Morgan.

He was a retired coal miner and a member of the Oak Hill Pentecostal Church in Nortonville, KY.

He is survived by his wife, Grace Crenshaw Morgan of Madisonville; two daughters, Juanita Payne of St. Charles, KY and Josephine Harp of Raleigh, NC; one son, Steve Morgan of Mortons Gap, KY; two stepdaughters, Barbara Wilson of Madisonville and Debbie Milan of Princeton, KY; two stepsons, Benjamin Lee Oates of Hopkinsville, KY and Gordon Oates of Upper Marlboro, MD; one sister, Goldie Casler of Hopkinsville; twenty-two grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 9, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Fuller and Bro. Paul Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethlehem cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Phillip Morgan, Jeff Morgan, Jason Morgan, Bradley Payne, Michael Payne and Jason VonGlahn.

Friends may call from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. on Sunday and on Monday after 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.

Mr. Michael Gamblin

Interment: Odd Fellows cemetery

Mr. Michael Gamblin, 52, of Lexington, KY and formerly of Madisonville, KY died Wednesday, January 4, 2005 at the University of KY Medical Center.

Born October 23, 1953 in Madisonville he was the son of the late Edward Lee Gamblin and Susie Estell McRoy Gamblin. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, William B. Gamblin Sr. and James A. Gamblin and one sister, Linda Sue Gossett.

He was a clothing salesman.

He is survived by one sister, Mary Gray of Madisonville; three brothers, Wayne Gamblin of Madisonville, Rick Gamblin of Winchester, KY and Dale Gamblin of Paducah, KY and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, January 6, 2005 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows cemetery.

Friends may call from 12:00 Friday until the services.

Memorials may take the form of donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Mrs. Anna Louise Courington

Mrs. Anna Louise Courington, 83, of Madisonville, KY died at 3:36 A.M. Tuesday, January 3, 2006, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.

Born March 14, 1922 in Hopkins Co., KY she was the daughter of Kirah and Edna Egbert Hancock.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Thomas X. Filmer and William Curtis Courington, one sister, Mary Winstead and two brothers, Herman Hancock and Kirah Hancock Jr.

Mrs. Courington was a member of Grapevine Christian Church, the Merry Hearts retirement club and Hopkins County Historical Society.

Surviving are one daughter, Shelia Eliassen of Madisonville; one son, Charles Curtis Courington of Madisonville; two sisters, Cora Cartwright and Mable Hendrix, both of Madisonville; two brothers, James Hancock of St. Louis, MO and Ruby Harold Hancock of Beulah, KY; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Minister Kirk Dice officiating. Burial will be in Grapevine cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday and after 9:00 A.M. Thursday.

Memorials may take the form of donations to Habitat for Humanity or Grapevine Christian Church.

Mrs. Barbara Just Davis

Mrs. Barbara Just Davis, 57, of Madisonville, KY died at 12:05 P.M. Thursday, August 10, 2006 at the Regional Medical Center.

Born January 27, 1949 in Louisville, KY she was the daughter of the late Emil Frank Just and Elnora Greenwood Just.

She taught 35 years, of which 33 were at the Mortons Gap and Earlington Elementary Schools. She was a member of the Mortons Gap Christian Church where she taught Sunday School.

She is survived by her husband, Allen F. Davis of Madisonville; two sons, Reid Allen Davis of Madisonville and Kyle J. Davis of Champaign, IL; one brother Paul J. Just of Bowling Green, KY; one aunt; several cousins and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, August 13, 2006 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Brother Kevin Jett officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Saturday and on Sunday from 12 Noon until the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may take the form of donations to the Show-Me Christian Youth Home, P.O. Box 6, Lamonte, MO. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mrs. Carolyn Nance

Mrs. Carolyn Nance, 70, of Manitou, KY died at 12:30 A.M. Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at the Regional Medical Center.

Born December 24, 1935 in Jewell City, KY she was the daughter of the late George Washington Roberts and Ruby Naomi Walker Roberts. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Carl Roberts.

She was a homemaker and a former bookkeeper for the Island Creek Company Store.

She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Martin and Vicki Rickard; one son, Gige Nance, four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Memorial gifts may take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Bertha Kyle

Mrs. Bertha Kyle, 84, of Madisonville, KY, died Friday, August 4, 2006, at 4:27 P.M., at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.

Born October 26, 1921, in Madisonville, she was the daughter of the late Bartie Lee Brinkley and Pearlee Harris Brinkley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Kyle in 1980, a brother, Joe Brinkley, and two sisters, Clara Ezell and Vinnie Allen.

She was a homemaker and was very active with her family.

Mrs. Kyle is survived by two daughters, Patty Conrad of Madisonville and Debra Massey of Earlington, KY; six grandchildren, Dewey Conrad III, Danny Massey, Shannon Tompkins, Steve Massey, Kevin Conrad and Lori Massey & twenty-two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 8, 2006, at 1:00 P.M., at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday, August 7, 2006, from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M., and from 11:00 A.M. until the service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mary Ellen Moore

Mrs. Mary Ellen Moore, 76, of Madisonville, KY, died at 1:10 P.M. Monday, July 31, 2006, at Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home in Madisonville.

Born August 30, 1929 in Hopkins County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Roy Brumit and Opal Bourland Brumit. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Frieda Hibbs and one brother, J. R. Brumit.

Mrs. Moore was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and attended Liberty Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Debbie Corum of Madisonville and Sherry Boyken of Calhoun, KY; two sisters, Zeda Mae Anderson of Morganfield, KY and Wanda Taylor of Newton, IL; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday with Rev. Doug Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Browder cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday and after 9:00 A.M. Thursday until the service time at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Craig Corum, Chris Corum, Wesley Melton, Bruce Galloway, Sarah Galloway and Larry Hibbs.

Memorials may take the form of donations to Gideons International, United Way Mental Health of Hopkins County or McLean County Relay for Life.

Mr. Harold W. Critser

Mr. Harold W. Critser, 80, of Madisonville, KY died at 6:44 P.M. Saturday, July 29, 2006 at his home.

Born May 5, 1926 in McLean County, KY he was the son of the late William B. and Blanche Lee Carlisle Critser. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Joe Critser.

He was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church where he taught Sunday school and was a song leader, he also served on the cemetery board for the church. He was a self employed farmer, a WW II Navy Veteran and was Past President and Superintendent of the Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Deane Lilly Critser of Madisonville; two daughters, Beverly Benkhatar of Ft. Myers, FL and Barbara Bibbee of Madisonville; two sisters, Carol Tomblingson of Poole, KY and Rosalyn Smith of Nashville, TN; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Barry Slaton officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethlehem cemetery.

Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday and on Wednesday after 8:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
