CENTRAL CITY - Hazel Griffith, 86, of Central City died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Greenville. She was a member of Holiness Faith Church and a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Preston Lee King; a daughter, Betty Loney; a brother, Henley Woodard; and a sister, Edith Duke.

Services: 3:30 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial: Rose Hill cemetery in Central City.

Dora M. Lindsay

CENTRAL CITY - Dora M. Lindsay, 100, of Central City died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. She was a homemaker and member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Central City.

Survivors include two sons, Otis Gene Lindsay and James Robert Lindsay; and a daughter, Mary C. Dodson.

Services: 1 p.m. Thursday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial: Peanut cemetery in Drakesboro. Visitation: After 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Douglas Ray Lyon

GREENVILLE - Douglas Ray Lyon, 68, of 435 Henderson Lane, Greenville, died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at 11 a.m. in Maple Manor Nursing Home in Greenville after a lengthy illness. He was born July 20, 1935, in Greenville, the son of Jessie Owen Lyon and Anna Laura Kellem Lyon. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Nazarene Church of Henderson. He was a contractor who built homes in Henderson for 32 years before retiring in 1990. He loved to play gospel and bluegrass music on the guitar.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Bonnie Skipworth Lyon of Greenville; one son, Dwayne (Melinda) Lyon of Henderson; one daughter, Theresa Lyon (Phillip) Pringle of Brentwood, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Matthew Pringle, Stephanie Pringle and Laura Lyon; and one sister, Margie Fitzhugh of Powderly.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at 11:30 a.m. from the Rosewood United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Rosewood United Methodist Church cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, May 18, 2004, after 9 a.m. at the Rosewood United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Green River Hospice. Envelopes available at the church. Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville is in charge of arrangements.

Felix 'Rab' Ray

BREMEN - Felix "Rab" Ray, 93, of 200 Roark Lane, Bremen, died at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, May 13, 2004, at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville. He was born Jan. 17, 1911, in Webster County and retired as manager from Stewart's IGA Foodliner in Central City. He was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Bremen and a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a nephew, Morris Melton of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 2 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home of Central City with the Rev. Bobby Reno officiating. Burial: Mount Pisgah cemetery in Bremen.

Sister Mary Damien Abell

Sister Mary Damien Abell, 90, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, of Maple Mount, Kentucky died March 22, 2001 at Mount Saint Joseph. She was born in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. She was in the 73rd year of her religious life. She entered the Ursuline Sisters of Mount St. Joseph Community on March 19, 1928.

She was principal of Blessed Mother School, Owensboro, for nineteen years from 1966 to 1985. She was a teacher at Saint Joseph School, Owensboro for ten years and at Saint Alphonsus School, St. Joseph, KY. She was librarian at Mary Carrico School, Knottsville before retiring at Mount Saint Joseph in 1993. She also, taught at Saint Columba School, Saint Paul School, Saint Denis School in Louisville. She was principal of Saint Charles School, Lebanon, and Saint Francis School in Saint Francis, KY.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Services are at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 26, 2001 at Mount Saint Joseph Chapel, in Maple Mount. Burial will be in the Convent cemetery in Maple Mount. Visitation is after 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Mount Saint Joseph Chapel. A Wake Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Mount Saint Joseph Chapel.

Delphine James Addington
March 27, 1928 - June 20, 2002

Mrs. Delphine James Addington, 74, of 3031 San Juan Drive, Owensboro, Kentucky died there June 20, 2002. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Rayburn Addington, on June 21, 1963 and by a daughter, Gail Addington, on September 9, 1962.

Mrs. Addington was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church where she retired as bookkeeper and secretary. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her church.

She is survived by one son,Lynn Addington of Owensboro; one daughter, Theresa Railey of Owensboro; three sisters, Beatrice Cundiff and Jean Fuson both of Owensboro and Shirley Alexander of Beaver Dam; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are to be held in Macedonia Baptist Church on Monday, June 24 at 10:00 a.m.. Visitation is at Glenn Funeral Home on Sunday, June 23 from 12:00 until 6:00 p.m., and again on Monday after 9 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Centertown cemetery in Ohio County.

Expressions of Sympathy may take the form of donations to the Macedonia Baptist Church Building Fund.

Shane Michael Akers, 17, of Strawbridge Place, Owensboro, died Tuesday, February 27, 2001 at Owensboro Mercy Health System of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born in Owensboro, he is the son of Warren Stephen and Leisha Smith Akers. He was a senior at Owensboro High School and a member of Seven Hills Baptist Church. He worked part time with his father at Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co. in Owensboro. Shane had a beautiful smile that was special to his family and to his many friends with whom he loved spending his time. He had a special fondness for working with electronics.

In addition to his parents, survivors include his brother, Jacob Wesley Akers and his grandparents, Carlene M. Smith, Charles E. Smith, and Pauline and Wendell Reeks, all of Owensboro.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home, officiated by Dr. T. A. Prickett and Dr. Robert L. Coons. Burial will follow at Elmwood cemetery.

Shirley Evans Aldridge, 67, of 710 Daviess Street, Owensboro, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at her home. She was born September 22, 1934 in Ohio County, Kentucky the daughter of Palmer and Della Edge Evans. Her husband, George Ervin Aldridge, preceded her in death on August 5, 1989.

She was a homemaker and a former receptionist at American Red Cross in Owensboro. She was a member of Good Shepherd Church and enjoyed gospel music, attending church and spending time with her family.

Survivors include two sons, Gale Aldridge and Keith Aldridge, both of Owensboro; two granddaughters; a great-grandson; two brothers, Gilbert Evans of Bells Run and Rondie Evans of Philpot; and a sister, Mary Finley of Whitesville.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2002 at Good Shepherd Church. Burial will follow in Bells Run cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2002 and from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home.

Lou Nell Alexander, 51, of 818 Jackson Street, Owensboro, died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at Riverside Manor Nursing Home in Calhoun. She was born in Owensboro, KY September 1, 1949 the daughter Randall Earl and Clara Saunders Alexander. She was preceded in death by her father, Randall Alexander; a brother, Charles Alexander and a sister, Beverly Ahten.

She was a member of 10th Street Baptist Church.

Survivors include her companion, Carlenen Crite, Sr. of Owensboro; a daughter, Clara Louise Crite of Owensboro; her mother, Clara Mae Alexander of Owensboro; two brothers, Donnie Alexander and Randall Alexander, both of Owensboro; a sister, Shirlene Simmons of Owensboro; and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2001 at 10th Street Baptist Church in Owensboro, officiated by Reverend Willie Grubbs. Burial will follow in Iron Ore Hill cemetery in Daviess County. Her family will receive friends at Glenn Funeral Home form 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

James R. Allen, 81, of 2829 Wayside Drive West, Owensboro, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at his home. Born in Daviess County, Kentucky on June 28, 1919, he was the son of the Lee Allen and Nellie Barnett Allen.

Mr. Allen was retired from the Kentucky Army National Guard. He was a member of People’s Baptist Church, The National Guard Association, Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and was a Kentucky Colonel.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Muriel C. Allen; three daughters, Nellie A. Rhoades of Godfrey, IL, Betty Powers of Seminole, FL, and Linda Camron of Owensboro, KY; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001 at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Reverend Odell Beauchamp. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. His family will receive friends from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2001 and after 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Disabled American Veterans. Memorial contributions envelopes are available at the funeral home.
