Mary Helen Long

LIVERMORE - Mary Helen Long, 88, of Livermore died Sunday, July 4, 2004, at Maple Manor Healthcare Center in Greenville. Mary Helen Frazier was born Dec. 31, 1915, in Henderson County to the late George and Isabelle Frazier and was later married to Frank H. Long on Nov. 6, 1937, in Owensboro. Mrs. Long was a homemaker, also served as the family baby-sitter, caring for all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and was an active member of Livermore Missionary Baptist Church. Her husband of 65 years, Frank H. Long, died July 12, 2003. Mary Helen was also preceded in death by a son, Willard Long, who died Sept. 2, 1976.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Savannah and Lawrence Garrett of Central City; seven grandchildren, David Dewayne Boyken, Roger Boyken, Kathy Boyken, Mark Boyken, Keith Long, Denise Aubrey and Timothy Scott Long; two stepgrandchildren, Karen Garrett and Chris Garrett; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Shockley officiating. Burial will be in Richland Baptist Church in McLean County. Friends may visit with the Long family from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at Musters in Livermore.

The Long family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Richland Baptist cemetery Fund or Livermore Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund. Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at Musters in Livermore.

Nola Lee Hancock

Nola Lee Hancock, 80, formerly of 3011 Epworth Lane, Owensboro, died Sunday, July 11, 2004, at Hillcrest Healthcare Center in Owensboro. She had been a clerk at Gene's Hardware and was a member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Aaron K. Hancock Jr.; a daughter, Judy Barnett; and a brother, Voris D. Moseley.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial: Pleasant Grove cemetery in Sorgho. Visitation: From 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Alice Faye Higgs Sawyer

Alice Faye Higgs Sawyer, 65, of 536 Leitchfield Road, Owensboro, died Monday, July 19, 2004, at Bon Harbor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. She was born Nov. 1, 1938, in Daviess County. She was a retired sitter for the elderly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hardy Elmer Sawyer, on Aug. 23, 1985; and by her father, J.T. Higgs.

Survivors include her daughter, Shirley and husband, Tom Sandefur, of Maceo; two sons, Ronald Sawyer of Denver and Larry James Sawyer and wife, Cindy, of New York; her mother, Faye Elizabeth Butchart of Owensboro; nine grandchildren, Lucas Sawyer, Matthew Sawyer, Ciara Sawyer, Shawn Sawyer, Shiann Sawyer, Tommy Sandefur III, Felicia Sandefur, Joey Sandefur and Christina Sandefur; and two sisters, Wanda DeTalante of Madisonville and Letha "PeeWee" Taylor of Calhoun.

Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro. Entombment is in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Humane Society, P.O. Box 1075, Owensboro, KY 42302-1075.

Conrad Lee Brown

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. - Conrad Lee "Lum" Brown, age 79, of East Chicago passed away at home on Wednesday, July 14, 2004. He is survived by his son, Conrad Jr. (Marie) of Merrillville, Ind., and daughter, Elizabeth of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Ryan (Tosha), Stacey, Nicole and Megan; two great-grandchildren, Mason and Chloe; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Claradine (nee Boyd); parents, Ellis and Maude (nee Calloway), brothers Ellis B and Clifford Owen; and a sister, Mildred.

Conrad was born February 20, 1925, in Centertown and moved to East Chicago in 1955. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hammond, Ind.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, had served in the Philippines and was part of the occupation forces in Japan following their surrender. Conrad retired from LTV Steel after 27 years of service. He was a 50-year member of East Chicago Lodge #595 F&AM. A member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of South Bend and Kentucky Chapter #78 Order of the Eastern Star.

Conrad was a devoted husband, kind father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was loved by all and will be dearly missed by those who knew him.

Visitation was on Sunday, July 18 from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Ave., Schereville, IN. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 19, 2004, with the Rev. Pete Ward officiating. Burial followed at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schereville.

Hershal Leslie

HARDINSBURG - Hershal Leslie, 75, of Hardinsburg died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at Breckinridge Health Care in Hardinsburg. He retired from Texas Gas.

Survivors include two sons, Danny Leslie and Ricky Leslie; two daughters, Rita Hubbard and Cathy Clemons; and a brother, Randall Leslie.

Services: 1 p.m. Sunday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Burial: Kingswood cemetery. Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and after 10 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Lorine Everett King

MARTWICK - Lorine Everett King, 87, of 113 Wolf Drive, Dousman, Wis., formerly of Martwick, died at 8:55 p.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. She was born in Muhlenberg County on Dec. 3, 1916. She was a homemaker and member of the Lutheran faith.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas and wife, Eva Jo, King of Moorman and William "Bill" King of Dousman; five grandsons, Thomas and wife, Latrica, King of Bremen, Tony and wife, Lina, King of Hartford, Todd and wife, Susan, King of Greenville, Tim and wife, Shannon, King of Lexington and Terry and wife, Kay, King of Central City; 10 great-grandchildren, Crystal, Joshua, Justin, Matthew, Michael, Zack, Lucas, Hannah, Shelby and Kristen; and a sister, Leona Waddell of Hobart, Ind. She was preceded in death by her husband, Montgomery King; and three brothers, Willie, T.J., and Hobart Sublett.

Services are at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. The Rev. Mitchell Sublett will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

David Earl Howard Sr.

HARDINSBURG - David Earl Howard Sr., 54, of Hardinsburg died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at his home.

Survivors include a son, David Earl Howard Jr.; his mother, Anna E. "Betty" Howard; and a brother, Bob Howard.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Burial: McQuady cemetery. Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Larry Allan Snyder

HAWESVILLE - Larry Allan Snyder, 59, of Hawesville, a loving and caring husband, son, brother, uncle and brother-in-law, left us on Friday, July 23, 2004, to be with God. He passed away at his home with family and friends at his side.

He was born July 3, 1945, in Daviess County and was a member of the Central Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served three years and two tours in the Vietnam War. He received several medals while in the service.

Larry worked for Brown and Root while constructing NSA and went to work at NSA in 1972 and retired in 1996.

He enjoyed fishing with his nephews and friends, gardening, hunting, shooting pool, especially snooker, and hunting elderberries for making wine. He was a University of Kentucky basketball fan and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Ray Snyder; and a brother, Earl Preston Snyder.

Larry is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary Frankie (Jones) Snyder; his mother and stepfather, Edna and Sam Gabbert of Lewisport; a brother and sister-in-law, Hal Ray and JoAnn Snyder of Lewisport; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Elizabeth and Simpson Lowery of Hawesville; and a stepbrother and his wife, Glen and Cindy Gabbert of Lewisport.

He had several uncles, aunts, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces that loved him very much.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday, July 26, at Gibson & Son Funeral Home in Hawesville with Brother Brian Adkins officiating. Burial will be in Serenity Hills in Hawesville with military rites. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 7 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Donations are to be made to Hospice.

Drexel Bishop

GREENVILLE - Drexel Bishop, 79, of Greenville died Friday, July 16, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was a test driller at Peabody Coal Co., a member of Friendship Baptist Church and a World War II veteran.

Survivors include five daughters, Joyce Jackson, Jeanie Sears, Barbara Bishop, Gloria Clintsman and Sharon Martin; two brothers, Charles Bishop and Ivan Bishop; and a sister, Pauline Ashby.

Services: 11:30 p.m. Monday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial: Friendship cemetery in Greenville. Visitation: After 4:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Edward 'Lefty' Fitzgerald O'Bryan

CENTRAL CITY - Edward "Lefty" Fitzgerald O'Bryan, 86, of 132 Fairway Drive, Central City died at 4:20 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2004, at his residence. He was born July 2, 1918, in Owensboro. He was a retired postmaster at Central City and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Central City. Mr. O'Bryan attended Washington and Lee University, University of Kentucky and Georgia Tech. He was a past president of Central City Rotary Club, a member of National Association of Letter Carriers, Central City Country Club, charter member of Owensboro Federal Credit Union and past president of National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He enjoyed playing golf and fishing and had served with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita May Hocker O'Bryan in 1977; and two brothers, Pat O'Bryan and Joe O'Bryan.

Survivors include a son, Stephen O'Bryan of Central City; three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and David Austin of Livermore, Mary Sue Eckert of St. Louis and Jane and Mike Webb of Oklahoma; six grandchildren, John Austin, Wendy Eckert, Lindsey Eckert, Debra Woelfel, Conner Webb and Kacey Webb; and two great-grandchildren, Kelly Woelfel and David Woelfel.

Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Father Ben Luther officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. Monday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Memorial contributions can be made to the Central City Rotary Club and Green River Hospice.
