Muzetta Marie Burden, 73, of 432 Dieterle Drive South, Owensboro died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born on Nov. 12, 1930, in Butler County to the late Roscoe and Nancy (Burden) Abney. She was a member of Southeast Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Tellie Terrell; her second husband, Guy Cole; her third husband, Truman Griggs; and by a grandson, Chris Terrell who died in 2003.

Survivors include her husband, Jay Burden; four sons, James Terrell of Owensboro, David Terrell of Reynolds Station, Jerry Cole and Allen Griggs, both of Owensboro; a daughter, Margaret Johnson of Owensboro; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Dorothy Irene Sutherland of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home.

Martha Christine Baker

BELTON - Martha Christine Baker, 87, of Belton died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. She was a homemaker and a member of Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Phillip P. Baker; a son, S.P. "Cracker" Baker; a daughter, Joyce Whitney; and two sisters, Wanda Shanall and Lillie Belle Travis.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home. Burial: Union Ridge cemetery in Belton. Visitation: After 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lucy M. Liebfried Clayton

RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. - Mrs. Lucy M. Liebfried Clayton, 81, of Riviera Beach died early Saturday morning, Oct. 16, 2004, after an extended illness. She was born Aug. 1, 1923, in Owensboro, a daughter of the late Jacob and Jessie Liebfried. In 1941, Lucy married Joseph Merrill Clayton, and, in 1957, they and their family moved to Riviera Beach, where they lived until Joseph's death in 2001.

Lucy is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and David Gagnon of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Glenda and Richard Munsell of The Villages, Fla.; three sons, Larry Clayton of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Jeffrey Clayton and Kevin Clayton of Salt Lake City; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Jacob (Sonny) Liebfried and Norman Liebfried; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Frances Bickett and Mrs. Nancy Wright.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 20, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Riviera Beach. Northwood Funeral Home, West Palm Beach, is in charge of arrangements.

J.C. Segers

CENTRAL CITY - J.C. Segers, 80, of Central City died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.

Survivors include a brother, Ed Segers.

Graveside services: 2 p.m. Thursday at Nelson Creek cemetery. Tucker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Frederick William Hill

Dr. Frederick William Hill, 92, of Owensboro died at 4:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at his home after a long illness. He was born Sept. 2, 1912, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He began his career as a teacher and then served as principal of Wallace County High School in Sharon Springs, Kan., for four years, then served in the New York State education department, Albany, N.Y. He graduated from Columbia University with a doctorate in education, followed by serving Abington, Pennsylvania Township schools, Yonkers, New York Public schools, Minneapolis, Minnesota Public Schools returning to New York to become deputy superintendent of New York City Schools which had an enrollment of two million children. He retired as superintendent of Hicksville Public Schools.

He taught at Columbia University, Harvard, Notre Dame and various other schools. He held a 50-year membership in the Masonic and Shrine lodges and was a charter member of the education organization called the Association of School Business Officials International, where he served as International President in 1964. He initiated the creation of Certification of School Business Officials, he holds certificate No. 1. At the association's yearly convention, he operated a career opportunity booth, where in all who sought jobs or a change of positions could investigate new job opportunities. He also enjoyed traveling, cars and reading journals.

He was an inspiration to all who met him and a role model for many young people. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Lucine Howerton Hill; his children, Ruthann Murray of Chokia, Minn., Frederick A. Hill of San Diego, William E. Hill and his wife Jan of Centereach, N.Y., Mary Margaret Hoban and her husband William of Austin, Texas and Robert John Hill and his wife Barbara of Minnetonka, Minn.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; also, five foreign exchange students and their families, Akiko Sano and Tomoko Mori from Japan, Ulrich Frietag of Germany, Shaukat Hyatt of Pakistan and Carsten Jespersen of Denmark.

He worked for the New York Senate in Education and wrote many bills for education that were passed by the legislature in New York. He was a Kentucky Colonel for 40 years. He will be buried in the family plot in Huntington Rural cemetery in Huntington, N.Y.

Services are at 3 p.m. Sunday at Owensboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Tim McGuire and the Rev. Wallace Reneer officiating. Burial will be in Huntington (N.Y.) Rural cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from noon until 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Masonic rites will be at 7 p.m. today at Haley-McGinnis. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Owensboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 910 Booth Ave., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Bob Branch

Bob Branch, 82, of Owensboro went home to be with Jesus Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born Aug. 22, 1922, to the late Ben and Pauline Fella Branch in Spencer County, Ind. He was self-employed as a Standard Oil Distributor, had farm chemical supplies and was a broker for oil and gas.

He was a member of Assembly of God Church and had attended Owensboro Christian Church. He served on the Spencer County Fair board for 20 years, the Spencer County School Board for four years, was project manager in the building of Good Shepherd Church, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all of his friends and family.

Survivors include his loving wife of 32 years, Betty; four Christian children, including one son, Keith Branch and his wife, Deborah, of Owensboro; three daughters, Cheryl Lovell and her husband, Ron, of Valrico, Fla., Vicki Pike and her husband, Bernie, of Portland, Tenn., and Carol Craig and her husband, Bill, of Wilmore; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John A. Branch of Evansville and Alfred Branch of Rockport, Ind.; and one sister, Barbara Scamahorn of Rockport.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at Owensboro Christian Church, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. at the church.

Monica Buschkoetter

Monica Buschkoetter, 63, of 3838 Locust Hill Drive, Owensboro, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born in Dubois County, Ind., to the late Simon F. and Frieda Wessel Boeckman. She was a homemaker and a caregiver for the elderly. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, cross-stitching, reading and helping other people. She was preceded in death by her son, Gerald R. Buschkoetter, on Feb. 5, 2005.

Surviving is her husband of 44 years, Jerome Buschkoetter; two sons, Joe and his wife, Michelle, Buschkoetter of Philpot and Jim Buschkoetter of Owensboro; and a daughter, Mary Jane Buschkoetter of Owensboro; a daughter-in-law, Jamie Brantley of Owensboro; a brother, David and his wife, Shirley, Boeckman of Santa Claus, Ind.; two sisters, Rita Mae and her husband, Artie, Oser of Ferdinand, Ind., and Marietta and her husband, Bob, Bachman of Jasper, Ind.; and three grandchildren, Brittany, Shelby and Tristan.

The funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at the Glenn Funeral Home chapel, with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Ruth Ina Devine Keith

SACRAMENTO - Ruth Ina Devine Keith, 65, of Sacramento was born on July 26, 1940, and died at Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005. She was a daughter of Linzy and Alma Ruth Austin Devine. She enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with her granddaughter, Glenna. She was preceded in death by her father, Linzy Devine, on Sept. 25, 1995.

She is survived by her mother, Alma Devine of Sacramento; a son, Tony (Lisa) Keith of Danville; a daughter, Vicki (Terry) Young of Lexington; a grandchild, Glenna Young of Lexington; two brothers, Gerald (Reba) Devine of Newburgh, Ind., and Earl (Julia) Devine of Sacramento; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento. Brother John Butler will be officiating the service. Burial will be in Free Union cemetery in Sacramento. James Earl Kyle

BREMEN - James Earl Kyle, 79, of Bremen died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. He was a self-employed carpenter and an Army veteran.

Survivors include three sons, Roy Kyle, William Lemaster and Glenn Kyle; a daughter, Margaret Ann Pollitt; and two sisters, Joyce Allen and Faye Johnson.

Services were private. Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Alice Jean Paterson

Alice Jean Paterson, 92, of Owensboro died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, George Paterson; a daughter, Phyllis Brinks; four sisters, Frances Leslie, Mary Rowan, Phyllis Webster and Winelda Gardner; and a brother, James Gardner.

Memorial services will be at a later date. Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph F. Crowe Jr.

CONROE, Texas - America has lost another hero. Joseph F. Crowe Jr., 82, of Conroe was born on April 24, 1923, in Owensboro. He was a 42-year military veteran and a survivor of World War II, Korea and Vietnam and went to join his Holy Father on July 23, 2005. He will be reunited with his wife, Mary Helen Crowe, who passed away in 2003. He was also preceded in death by his father, Joseph F. Crowe Sr.; his mother, Martha Barr Crowe Payne; and his brothers, Doug, Bill, Bob, Dick and James.

He is survived by five brothers, Paul, Norbert, George, Gene and Marty Crowe; two sisters, Patsy Phelps and Martha Zogelman; children, Donald Crowe, Walter David White, Nancy Jones and husband, Gary, Freda Knight and husband, Jerry, Ronald Crowe and wife, Linda, Douglas Crowe and wife, Charlotte, and Kevin Crowe; two sisters-in-law, Sadie Yates and Maxine Hale; a brother-in-law, Donnie Bryant and wife, Wanda; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Joseph F. Crowe Jr. will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 28, in Cashner Colonial Chapel in Conroe, with Father Antonio Perez officiating. Interment will follow in Garden Park cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, with a rosary at 7 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Odyssey Health Care, 100 I45 North, Box 103, Suite 300, Conroe, TX 77301.
