Charles W. Brown, 72, of Crittenden, died today at the Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown.

Arrangements are pending at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge.

Evelyn M. Buemi, 70, of Covington, died at 4:55 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Anne Auxiliary.

Survivors include a daughter, Diana Hoppius of Covington; sons, Mike Buemi of Burlington, Ted Lee Buemi of Independence, Timothy Michael Buemi of Florence and David Allen Buemi of Covington; a sister, Sandra Sterling of Independence; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Stephen Church, Newport. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Ft. Thomas. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.

Christopher Cavally, 54, of Topeka, Kan., formerly of Cincinnati, died Nov. 15 of cancer. He was a manager of the Minninger Clinic Snack Bar and Grills in Topeka.

Survivors include his stepmother, Joan Harrison Cavally of Cincinnati.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Norman Chapel in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Minninger Clinic, P. O. Box 829, Topeka, Kan. 66601. Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Virgil Franks, 78, of Owenton, died Wednesday at Owen County Hospital in Owenton.

Eleanor L. Delaney Gillespie, 66, of Latonia, died Tuesday at her home of a heart attack. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, Falmouth.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Gillespie; daughters, Phyllis Ann Vann of Muldrow, Okla., Deborah Harbour of Lewisville, Texas , and Diana Rex of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; sons, Kenneth Alan Gillespie of San Pedro, Calif., David Gillespie of Latonia and Bruce Gillespie of Weatherford, Texas ; sisters, Mary Catherine Hetterman and Patricia Sellers, both of Covington, Alma Crawford, Geneva Habermehl and Joan Faulkner, all of Falmouth; brothers, Joe Paul Delaney of Falmouth and Tommy Delaney of Alexandria; and 13 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Church, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Falmouth. Memorials are suggested to Pendleton County Library, 228 Main St., Falmouth, Ky. 41040.

Margaret A. Frain Hammond, 79, of Covington, died Wednesday at her home after a lengthy illness. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Covington. Her husband, William E. Hammond, died in 1994.

Survivors include a daugh ter, Mary Ann Roland of Covington; and one grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Elizabeth C. Herzog, 92, of Ludlow, died at 11:05 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a member of Sts. Boniface and James Church, Ludlow. Her husband, Joseph B. Herzog, died in 1981.

Survivors include a son, Robert Herzog of Ludlow; and a twin sister, Loretta Bernens of Ft. Mitchell.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Visita tion will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Ft. Wright.

Sheila Jackson, 79, of Bellevue, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. She was a retired punch press operator for Wadsworth Electric Co., Dayton.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Hampton of Newport; sons, Leland Marshall of Ohio, and Jerry Marshall of Newport; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Evergreen Cemetery Chapel, Southgate. Radel Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.

Verdella Wainscott Kinman, 74, of Dry Ridge, died at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown after an extended illness. She was a homemaker and a member of Concord Baptist Church, Golds Valley. Her husband, Alfred "Mike" Kinman, died in 1978.

Survivors include a daughter, Jane Ann Kinman of Dry Ridge; sisters, Blanche Cook and Geneva Howell, both of Owenton; and a brother, Walter Wainscott of Glencoe.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown, and from 1 p.m. Friday until the time of services at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery in Golds Valley.

Ruth Sigman, 78, of Dayton, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. She was president of the Senior Citizens Club of Speers Court Apartments, Dayton, and a member of the Senior Citizens Kazoo Band, Covington.

Survivors include a sister, Marjorie Newman of Crestlawn, Ohio; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Speers Court. Memorials are suggested to the family, in care of Speers Court, 901 Fifth Ave., Dayton, Ky. 40174.

Mida M. Knox Tipton, 88, of Newport, died Wednesday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights. She was a retired elevator operator with Booth Hospital, Covington.

Survivors include daughters, Vivian Christian and Dorothy Lipscomb, both of Newport; a son, James Robert Tipton of Newport; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

John Paul Wagner, 73, of Cincinnati, formerly of Bracken County, died at 12:25 a.m. Wednesday at Mercy Hospital Fairfield in Cincinnati. He was a retired materials handler with General Electric, Cincinnati, and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He leaves no survivors.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Augusta. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Augusta.

James N. Stein, was Kenton judge

Former Kenton County Judge James N. Stein loved his schnauzers.

His longtime friend and business partner Wanda Lunsford said the Crescent Springs man owned six or eight of the little dogs over the course of 40 years.

One was lucky enough to accompany Mr. Stein and Ms. Lunsford on a 1980 trip to Mexico, a vacation that sparked Mr. Stein's fascination with the culture south of the border.

Mr. Stein made many more trips to Mexico, eventually learning the language and buying a small apartment in Puerto Vallerta.

Mr. Stein, 69, of Crescent Springs, died Sunday at Veterans Administration Hospital, Cincinnati.

He was a Kenton County judge, appointed to the bench when he was 26, and a Covington attorney.

He was a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and a former member of St. Augustine Church, Covington. Mr. Stein also was an Army veteran.

Mr. Stein and Ms. Lunsford were business partners who managed rental property.

His brother, Norbert Stein of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., said his brother had an effusive personality.

"He was very outgoing. He liked to talk to people. He was a born sales personality," Norbert said.

Other survivors include a brother, Gilbert Stein of Naples, Fla.; sisters, Irma Stein of Cincinnati, Ruth Eckert of Ft. Wright, Lucille Tummins of Houston and Dolores Cook of Edgewood.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Augustine Church. Memorials are suggested to Shriners Burns Institute, 3229 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio, 45229, or the charity of the donor's choice. The body was donated to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Owen Kabler, funeral director, was quiet but dependable

Owen Dale Kabler operated a funeral service and an ambulance service for most of his working life.

Mr. Kabler, 69, of Mt. Olivet, was a soft-spoken man who became close to his neighbors, said a daughter, Toni Kabler Curry of Mt. Olivet.

"He was a quiet person; he didn't have a lot to say. But people knew they could always count on him," Ms. Curry said.

Mr. Kabler died Thursday at Maysville Extended Care Center. He was a funeral director with Kain and Kabler Funeral Home, Mt. Olivet, where he was a partner.

He was a former Robertson County coroner, a past chairman of the Robertson County Republican Party for 35 years and a former director of the Robertson County Farm Bureau. Mr. Kabler also was a member of Robertson County Lions Club and a member of the Mt. Olivet First Christian Church.

He enjoyed gardening and refinishing furniture, his daughter said.

Other survivors include his wife, Joyce Paynter Kabler; daughters Tammy Kabler and Terri Dale Kabler Lippert, both of Mt. Olivet; a sister, Janet Kabler Sharp of Lexington; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kain and Kabler Funeral Home, Mt. Olivet. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Dorothy "Dot" Lawson Boone, 82, of Covington, died at 3:36 p.m. Wednesday at her home. She was a retired assistant chief clerk with C&O Railroad, and a member of Mother of God Church, Covington. She also was a member of Professional Women's Club, Cincinnati, Catholic Golden Ages Club and Brotherhood of Railroad Clerks AFL-CIO.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley A. Hahn of Covington; a sister, Betty Lawson Roach of Covington; six grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to American Lung Association, 11113 Kenwood Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45242.

Charles Winston Brown, 72, of Crittenden, died Thursday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown. He was a farmer and a member of Crittenden Christian Church.

Survivors include a son, Bob Brown of Florence; a daughter, Kay Givin of Dry Ridge; and a brother, William Robert Brown of Morning View.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will begin there at noon Saturday. Burial will be in Crittenden Cemetery.
