Dallas Allen Toomey

Dallas Allen Toomey, 89, of Owensboro was born May 31, 1915, in Penrod and died Friday, April 22, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System at 2:20 p.m. He was a member of Southside Church of Christ in Owensboro. He was a 42-year member of the Travelers Protective Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Annie Toomey of Penrod; two brothers; and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Nell Gaston Toomey, whom he married
in 1948; a son, Lanny David Toomey of Owensboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynette Dawn (Toomey) and Jeff Johnson of Owensboro; two brothers, Delbert Toomey of Owensboro and Wilbur Toomey of Greenville; and a sister, Clara Davis of Owensboro.
He was a decorated World War II U.S. Army veteran, who had served in Normandy, Nothern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe with the 3596th QM Truck Company. He hauled supplies, ammunition, rations and personnel over improvised roads under combat conditions and blackouts. He received numerous decorations including the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with five Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal World War II. He was a former business partner in Western Plating Co. in Owensboro and a former partner, with his son Lanny, in Auto Paint and Supply Co. Inc. He enjoyed various hobbies including bowling, watching baseball games and traveling with his family.
Services are at 1 p.m. Monday, April 25, at James H. Davis Funeral Home. Visitation is from 1 to 6 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro and from 3 to 4 p.m. on Monday there will be visitation and burial at Hortons Chapel Church of Christ cemetery in Muhlenberg County.
Retha Mae Coombs

GREENVILLE - Retha Mae Coombs, 84, of 246 N. Cherry St., Greenville, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at 10:41 p.m. at home. She was born May 10, 1920, in Muhlenberg County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Missionary Baptist Prospect.
Survivors include a son, Freddie Wayne (Diane) Coombs of Central City; two daughters, Carole Sue (Donald) Rice of Greenville and Ima Jewell Sadler of Greenville; grandchildren, Timothy O. Rice, Dwight Alan (Robin) Rice, Kimberly J. (Michael) Slinker, Vanessa S. (Randall) Rose, Tracey L. (Brent) Burris, Shannon (Becky) Coombs and Keri Rogers; great-grandchildren, Michael and Nathan Rice, Leslye, Derek and Holly Rice, Kala Slinker, Eric Rose, Kelsey and Will Burris, Danielle and Taylor Rogers and Conner and Emma Coombs; and brothers and sisters, Eual Rice of Greenville, Roy Rice Jr. of Greenville, Edwin "Shorty" Rice of Greenville, Louise Blakeman of Dayton, Ohio, and Joyce Ann Doolin of Dayton.
Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Jewell Martin officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Fred Mayton

Fred Mayton, 79, of Stanley passed away Friday, April 22, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born Oct. 27, 1925, in Hopkinsville. He was retired from W.R. Grace as a painter after 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, served in the South Pacific and was a past member of the Naval Reserve.
He was a member of Stanley Baptist Church, Sunday school director for 30 years, member of the choir, board of director of Stanley fire department, member of Stanley Citizens Group, voted best dishwasher of the group. He was a member of Daviess County Pork Producers cooking team and a Ducks Unlimited member for 50 years. He was a past lifeguard at the old Rubbs pool. He looked forward to going duck hunting with his son and grandson. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed water skiing, loved cooking and spending time camping on French Island. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and watching his great-grandkids play ball. He was loved and respected by all who knew him, especially the ones he played practical jokes on.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Beulah "Boots" Pate Mayton; two sons, Rick Mayton of Owensboro and John and his wife Kathryn Mayton of Goldsboro, N.C.; a daughter, Joy and her husband Pat Coomes of Stanley; five grandchildren, Shannon Poole, Jenny Coomes, Frederick "Freddy" Mayton III, Patty Jo Newman and Marina Mayton; and five great-grandchildren, Chelsey and Cody Poole, Caitlin Coomes and Bailey and Leah Newman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W.B. Mayton and Lilly Cluck Mayton; a brother, Roy Mayton; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Mayton.
Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Pete Taylor and the Rev. Jerry Carter officiating. Visitation is from 2:30 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Scherer cemetery with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 696 providing full military honors.
Clara K. Cole

Clara K. Cole died Thursday, April 21, 2005, at Hillcrest Healthcare Center at 9:20 am. She was born May 4, 1917, near Newman. She was the daughter of the late Mae Irene Russell and Thomas Andrew Krahwinkle. She and her late husband, Jasper "Buddy" Cole, resided on a farm near Stanley most of their married
life. Mrs. Cole was employed at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital cafeteria and also city schools cafeteria. She had two brothers and seven sisters who preceded her in death. Mrs. Cole is past member of Newman Homemakers Club and Missionary Society of Newman Baptist Church. She made quilts for charitable organizations.
In later years, after moving to Owensboro, she joined Bellevue Baptist Church and was a member of United Builders Sunday school class and missionary society.
Clara is survived by one son and one daughter, Ralph Cole and his wife Susan of Boston; and Bonnie Kelsey and her husband, Robert of Mesa, Ariz.; and five grandchildren.
Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Greg Faulls officiating. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the charity of the donor's choice or Newman Baptist Church, 10101 U.S. Highway 60 West, Owensboro, KY 42301.
Ola Mae Grace

Ola Mae Grace, 92, of Owensboro passed away Saturday, April 23, 2005, at the Carmel Home. She had taught in Christian County, Daviess County and in the Owensboro City School System and retired from Newton Parrish Elementary School. She was a former member of Kappa Gamma Honorary Teachers and a member of several other educational organizations. She also had taught the Fellowship Class at Settle Memorial for several years. She graduated from Crofton High School, Peabody University and Western Kentucky University and was a member of Good Shepherd Church. Her parents, Charles M. and Lilly Jane Crick Grace, preceded her in death.
She is survived by two nieces, Dorothy Foster of Graham and Joyce Trevena of Nashville; and a great-niece, Estelle Corn of West Louisville.
Services will be at Glenn Funeral Home on Monday, April 25, 2005, at 10 a.m. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home, from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the Carmel Home and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial service will be on Monday at 2 p.m. at Coles Chapel in Christian County.

HARDINSBURG - Pauline Stillwell Ford, 82, of Hardinsburg died Friday, April 22, 2005, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include three sons, Donald Ford, Darrell Ford and David Ford; and four sisters, Elizabeth Robinson, Clara Clark, Mary Zelma Voyles and Dorothy Burnett.

Lon A. Gordon Sr., 83, of 2006 E. 10th St., Owensboro, died Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born on March 1, 1922, in Owensboro to the late Henry J. and Prudy Helen (Hines) Gordon. He was employed at Hayden Furniture Co. for 20 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alva Gray Gordon, on Sept. 10, 2002.
Survivors include a son, Lon Gordon Jr. of Lexington; two daughters, Judy (Willard) Peveler and Lillian Gordon, both of Owensboro; five grandchildren, Chris (Edee) Gordon, Lacey Gordon, Will (Holly) Peveler, Stephanie (Lonnie) Daugherty and Londa (Jason) Boyd; and eight great-grandchildren.

Bonnie Burke Haley, 88, of 1422 Kent Place died Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born in Daviess County on March 3, 1917, to the late Dr. Gordon Leigh Burke and Stella Jackson Burke. She was a homemaker and a member of Century Christian Church, General Evan Shelby Chapter of DAR, Saturday Musicale and Married Ladies Reading Club. She was the former secretary for Community Concert Association and had attended Randolph-Macon Women's College, Longwood College and Kentucky Wesleyan College. She was preceded in death by her husband, William D. Haley Jr. in 2000; and two sisters, Anne Burke Barnes and Lucille Burke Smith.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan Haley Reynolds and husband, Sam, of Orlando, Fla., and Marcia Haley Goetz and husband, Larry, of Lawrenceville; and four grandchildren, David W. Reynolds and Ileigh Laura Reynolds of Orlando, Fla., and Mark Douglas Goetz and Amy Leigh Goetz of Lawrenceville, Ga.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Century Christian Church, with burial in Rosehill cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Century Christian Church.

Pearl Pagan Heflin, 83, of Owensboro died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was a member of Hall Street Baptist Church and retired from Owensboro Board of Education in 1986. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Heflin; a granddaughter, Jamie Heflin Lyons; three brothers, Elwood, Ledie and Larry Pagan; and four sisters, Grace McDaniel, Vivian Nash, Marion O'tool and Bobby Jean Adams.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Richard; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard O. and Judy Heflin of Eden, N.C., and Mike and Teri Heflin of Bowling Green; a daughter and son-in-law, Lois Heflin Sapp and William of Owensboro; six grandchildren, Jeff, Cyndi, Keena, Jessica, Mike and Mark; six great-grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.
Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 23, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro.
