Terry “Pete” McKinney
(1936-2009)

Terry L. “Pete” McKinney, 73, of Louisa, died Thursday in Louisa. He was born Jan. 21, 1936, in Ethel, W.Va. His wife, Nancy Ratcliff McKinney, survives.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Young Funeral Home in Louisa. Burial will be in McKinney cemetery in Louisa. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Joni B. Marcum
1963-2009

Jonit Marcum, 46, of Ft. Gay W.Va. died at Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va., June 3, 2009. She was born Feb. 27, 1963 in Orville, Ohio, a daughter of the late Paul Boyes and Ruth Boyes, of Ft. Gay. W.Va. She is survived by a son, Colton Thomas Marcum and fiance Taylor Trippe, of Ft. Gay W.Va., two daughters, Pamela Athena Ramey, and husband, Rick, of Wayne, W.Va. and Heather Nicole Marcum of Ft. Gay., brother Paul Emmett Boyes and wife Misty also of Ft. Gay, Whitney Paige and nephew Shawn Emmett of Ft. Gay., sister Yonnie Marie Boyes of Ft. Gay. Also surviving is her close companion, Cecil Taylor and best friends Judy Hayes and Michelle Artrip all of Ft. Gay.

Funeral services will be conducted at 5 pm Friday, June 5, 2009 at the Young Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 6-9 pm Thursday, also at Young Funeral Home Chapel in Louyisa. Ky.

Charles McKenzie
1930-2009

Charles W. McKenzie, 78, of Prichard, died Monday in Veterans Administration Medical Center in Huntington.

He was born Oct. 6, 1930, in Fort Gay.

His wife, Gloria M. Hazlett McKenzie, survives.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Young Funeral Home in Louisa, Ky. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Barboursville.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Virginia Katherine Lycan
1921-2009

Virginia K. Lycan, 87, passed away April 29, 2009 at J.J. Jordan Geriatric Center in Louisa. Ms. Lycan was born September 28, 1921 at Wolf Creek, W.Va., the daughter of Curtis and Stella Mae Tradgen Christian, both deceased. She was the widow of Taylor Lycan. Ms. Lycan is survived by one daughter, Joyce West, Louisa, Ky., one son, Everette Lycan also of Louisa, one sister, Marybelle Castle, Louisa, Ky. Two brothers survive, Rex Christian, of Huntington, W.Va., and Everette Christian of Baltimore, Md., six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 1, 2009 from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. at Young Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 2, at the Young Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rick May in charge of the services. Burial will follow at Lycan cemetery, Ft. Gay, W.Va.

Mary Ethel Salyer
1928-2009

Mary Ethel Gussler Salyer, age 80 of Fallsburg, Ky. passed away April 28, 2009 at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa, Ky. She was born September 20, 1928 at Adams, Ky., a daughter of the late Frelan Ray and Ugie Wellman Gussier. She was married to her husband of 60 years, Cornell Salyer on December 20, 1946, he preceded her in death September 2007. She was a long time member of the Brushy Fork United Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Lorraine Gussler, Vickie GussIer, and Ruth (Cliston) Carter. Three brothers, Laudie Gussler, Milton Gussler, and Richard Gussler. Two son in laws, Henry Peters and Keith Wheeler. One great granddaughter Aleasha Millianne Salyer. She is survived by 11 children, Darrell(Betty) Salyer, Patricia Peters, Carol (Wendell) Borders, Dwight (Jennie)Salyer, Barbara (Jimmy) Sparks, Debra (Mitchell) Young, George (Diane) Salyer, Shirley (John) Hogston, Tony (Donna) Salyer, Dale (Becky)

Salyer, Christy (Wesley) Vanhorn, 25 Grandchildren, 17 great Grandchildren, two brothers, Ray Gussier and Don Gussler and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 :00 pm Friday at Young Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Roberts and Rev. Rick Cordial officiating. Burial will follow at the Sparks cemetery in Hood, Ky. Visitation will be 5 :00 til 9:00 Pm Thursday at Young Funeral Home Chapel. Young Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Bertalene “Betty” Edwards
1940-2009

Bertalene “Betty” Edwards, 68, of Blaine, Ky. passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at her home. She was born July 2, 1940 in Sandy Hook, Ky. a daughter of the late Jim and Hazel Skaggs Blankenbeckler. She was a retired cook at Blaine Elementary School and member of the Caines Creek Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Gary Edwards, two sisters, Yvonne Reinholtz and Dorene Blankenbeckler, two brothers, Willie Blankenbeckler and Olen Blankenbeckler, also two Grandchildren, Isiah Edwards and Matthew Edwards.

Survivors include, three daughters, Sandy Edwards of Blaine, Ky.; Patty Edwards of Blaine, Ky.; and Mary Bloomfield of Louisa, Ky.; two sons, Emory (Beth) Edwards of Ulyssess, Ky.; Gary (Dorothy) Edwards of Blaine, Ky.; two sisters, Ottie Mae Skaggs of Clawson, MI.; and Flora Walker of Olive Hill, Ky.; one brother, Bert Blankenbeckler of Olive Hill, Ky.; six Grandchildren, Jonathan Boggs, Nathan (Shana) Boggs, Patrick Boggs, Andrew Edwards, Ethan Edwards and Edmond Edwards.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 :00 pm Friday, May 1, 2009 at Caines Creek Freewill Baptist Church with Ford McKenzie and Bondi Salyers officiating. Burial will follow at the Wilson - Skaggs cemetery in Olive Hill, Ky. Visitation will be 5:00 til 9:00 pm Wednesday at Young Funeral Home in Louisa, Ky. and after 2:00 pm Thursday at Caines Creek Freewill Baptist Church.

Richard S. Gussler
1934-2009

Richard S. Gussler 74 of Louisa went to be with the Lord on Monday April 20, at his home.

Richard was born May 16,1934 at Adams, Ky the son of the late F.R. (Freet) and Ugie Wellman Gussler.

He was a farmer and a member of the Oak Grove Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Donald Ray Gussler.

Survivors include his loving wife Alma Farris Gussler, two daughters, Linda Glidewell of Lawrenceville, Ga, and Darlene and husband Rick Staniford of Louisa. A son Richard Gussler Jr of Louisa, a sister Mary Ethel Salyer of Fallsburg. Two brothers Don Gussler of Martha and Ray Gussler of Columbus Oh.

Richard had ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Mack Ray Cyrus and Brother Casey Cyrus on Thursday April 23, at 11:00 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Yatesville Memorial Gardens at Louisa.

Friends may call after 6:00p.m. Wednesday at Wilson Funeral Home.

Leon VanHoose
1952-2009

Leon Richard VanHoose, 56, of Fort Gay, died Thursday in Fort Gay.
He was born Oct. 29, 1952, in Louisa, Ky. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at VanHoose cemetery in Fort Gay.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Young Funeral Home in Louisa.

Essie May Ray
1920-2009

Essie May Ray, 89, of Blaine died April 21, 2009 at Cabell Huntington Hospital after a short illness. The daughter of Henry and Bessie Wallace Cline, both deceased, in Majestic, Ky., she was the widow of Willard Thomas Ray, who died in 1992. Mrs. Ray was a homemaker and a member of the Blaine Christian Church for 75 years.

Survivors include four daughters; Anna Rodriges of Columbus, Ohio, Erma Ray, Louisa, Ky., Brenda Ray, Marion, S.C., and Sandra Ray also of Marion, S.C. Two sons: Thomas Byron Ray of Louisa and George Ray, of Blaine, one sister Ester Estep, South Williamson, Ky., one brother, Carl Ray Cline of Majestic, ky. 11 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren. Mrs.Ray also had two deceased grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. Thursday, April 23 at Young Funeral Home. Family members will gather at 4:00 P.M. Funeral Services will be held Friday at 11:00 A.M. at Young Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ed Austin of Blaine Christian Church officiation. Burial will be at Yatesville Memorial Gardens, Louisa, under the direction of Young Funeral Home.

Bennie Atkinson
1929-2009

Bennie Atkinson, 79, of Louisa passed away Sunday, April 19, 2009 at his place of residence on Lackey Ave. Mr. Atkinson, was born in Tram, Ky. the son of Leport Atkinson and Rickman Fraylen, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Tracey Atkinson.

Married to Anna Jean Jones Atkinson, who survives, for 57 years, he worked for the C&O Railway for 45 years before he retired to pursue his lifetime love of fishing. Mr. Atkinson was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church of Louisa.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Atkinson is survived by one daughter, Terry Hudnall, of louisa, three brothers, two grandchildren, Heath Hudnall and Heather Burgess, and two great grandchildren, Alexandria and Ethen.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. Tuesday at Young Funeral Home. The family will gather at 4:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 1st United Methodist Church with Rev. Art Honican officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn cemetery in Louisa under the direction of Young funeral Home.

Harry William Dent
1917-2009

Harry William Dent, 92, of Perry Street in Louisa, died Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the J.J. Jordan Geriatric Center in Louisa. Born in Elgood, W.Va. the son of Dexter Hamilton and Laura Burk Thompson Dent, he was a heavy equipment operator during his working days. He was a member of the Vinson Lodge F&AM.

Mr. Dent was preceded in death by his wife Polly Ann Comer Dent who passed away in 1994. He is survived by three daughters, Ann Thomas, of Thaxton, Va., Rose Niday, of Fincastle, Va., and Nancy Rucker of Goodview, Va., two sisters, Margaret Williams of Harrisburg, Va. and Joyce Wolbert of Martinsburg, W.Va. 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 P.M. at Young Funeral Home. Graveside services will conducted at Elmwood cemetery in Wayne, W.Va by Rev. Tim Preston of Ft. Gay, W.Va. at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April, 21 under the direction of Young Funeral Home of Louisa.

Ivory Juanita Fugate
1925-2009

Ivory Juanita Fugate, 84, of Louisa, died Sunday at Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility.

Mrs. Fugate was born Sept. 4, 1925.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church in Louisa. Burial will follow in Alley Family cemetery in Louisa.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Young Funeral Home in Louisa.

Kathy Jackson
1956-2009

Kathy Jackson, 52, of Louisa, died, Saturday in Ashland.

Mrs. Jackson was born Aug. 7, 1956.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson Funeral Home in Louisa.

Burial will follow in Jackson Family cemetery in Fort Gay, W.Va.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to the time of service Wednesday.
