Oct. 13, 1987

Hamilton, Ohio - Kizzie Hooker, 87, 627 Rigdon St., died Tuesday in Mercy Hospital of Hamilton.

Her husband, Letch Hooker, died in 1978.

Services 11 a.m. Friday, Greenwood cemetery Chapel. Burial in Greenwood cemetery. Visitation 10-11 a.m. Friday at the cemetery chapel.

Hooker, Mary Wilson

Mary Wilson Hooker, 88, Cumberland, died June 18, 2004 at the Harlan Nursing Home.

A native of Cumberland, she was a member of the Church of Christ. She owned and operated a boarding house in Blair Fork for 11 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Lawerence and Della Maggard Wilson; and her husband, Lawrence Hooker.

Survivors include three children: Charles Ray Hooker, Cumberland; Ruby Plowman, Cumberland; and Marshall Hooker, Slemp; five brothers: Robert Eugene Wilson, Memphis, Tenn.; Marion Wilson Jr., Ypsitanti, Mich.; Hugh X Lewis, Nashville, Tenn.; Lindsey Rice, Prinston, W. Va.; and Ruben Rice, Blair; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Chapel of the Day & Jones Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Day & Jones Funeral Home with Robert Yaden officiating.

Burial will follow in the Peaceful Acres cemetery in Hiram.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Day & Jones Funeral Home, 1205 E. Main Street, Cumberland, is in charge of arrangements.

HOOKER, Melissa Ann "Missy" (Sandlin)

Age 28, passed away at her home on Saturday, December 10, 2005 at 10:30 pm.

She was born in Hamilton on October 21, 1977 the daughter of Ronnie G. and Susan (Hanes) Sandlin.

She was employed in housekeeping for various companies. Missy was a very outgoing, fun loving, and giving person.

On November, 19, 2000 she married Gerald Hooker who passed away June 21, 2003.

A loving mother she is survived by her children, Kyle and Katy; her mother, Susan Hanes of Trenton; her father, Ronnie G. Sandlin of Fairfield; her sister, Jennifer Pence and her husband David of Ross; grandparents, Winston and Thresa Sandlin of Clearwater, Florida; four nephews, David, Justin, Joey, and Dylan Pence; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and grandparents, Ralph and Barbara Hanes.

Missy will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held at Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Ave., Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Tim Mullins of Greenhills Baptist Church officiating.

Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:00 am to 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Melissa Hooker Memorial Fund, for the care of her children, in care of any branch of First Financial Bank.

Missy's family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Hospice of Cincinnati for their care and concern.

Hooker, Sonja Kay Howard

Sonja Kay (Howard) Hooker

CRAB ORCHARD - Sonja Kay (nee Howard) Hooker, 67, of Sharonville, OH, formerly of Crab Orchard, passed away Oct. 26, 2006. Devoted wife of 50 years of Donald R. Hooker, formerly of Stanford. Loving mother of Don (Mary Jane) of Columbus, OH, Karen, Kevin (Cheryl), and Scott of Cincinnati, OH, as well as the late Jeffrey L. Hooker. She was the proud grandmother of 12, and beloved sister of Alice (Frosty) Whitehead of Lexington, Erna (Jaro) Albright and Jimmy Wayne Howard of Crab Orchard, Sheryll (Mike) Goodwin of Stanford, and the late Jen Clark, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was retired from P&G, ADSB in 1992. Visitation will take place Mon, 6-9 p.m. at McKnight-Martin Funeral Home, 229 Main St., Crab Orchard, KY 40419. Funeral service will take place Tue, 2 p.m. at McKnight-Martin Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Cincinnati, P.O. Box 633597, Cincinnati, OH 45263-3597.

Hoskins, Henry

BELL COUNTY — Henry Hoskins, 82, passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital.

A lifelong resident of Bell County, he was born Aug. 25, 1925, at Kettle Island and was the son of the late Millard Hoskins and Virgie Asher Hoskins. He believed in the Pentecostal faith, from which he obtained his richest love in serving God. He was also a former employee of the Bell County School System. He loved to garden and farm, flea markets and yard sales.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ivy Ann Hoskins; and sisters, Rachael Evans and Abbie Bullins.

Survivors include his daughters, Henrietta Hoskins, Mary Alford, Middlesboro, and Anita (Chris) Whitehead, Straight Creek; brothers, Jim (MIldred) Hoskins, Willie Hoskins, and Arthur (Freda) Hoskins; one grandchild, Melanie (Jerry) Williams, Middlesboro; sister-in-law, Doris Asher; special little girl, Morgan Fuson; special nephew, Arthur Ray (Gwen) Evans; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Creech-Durham Funeral Home by the Rev. Bobby Fuson, and the Rev. Terry Cox, and other speakers. Music will be provided by a host of singers.

Burial will be in Pinelawn Memorial Gardens at East Pineville. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6-10 p.m. Friday at Creech-Durham Funeral Home, Pineville, which is in charge of arrangements

Hoskins, Jeff

Jeff Hoskins, 59, of Trosper, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2006 in Barbourville.

He was the son of the late Lora Hoskins and Delanoe Lafever. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Tommy Buchanan.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Hoskins, four daughters, Sarah Walden and husband James, Melissa Luckadoo and husband Donald, Kathy Ann Chaplin and husband Tim and Susan Turner; two sons, David Hoskins and Daniel Peterson; two sisters, Linda Jones and husband Ellis, Dana Butler and husband Lee; one brother, Ricky Mason and wife Shelia; two sister-in-laws, Pat Dorsey and husband Sam, Deb Rifenburg and husband Matt; and fourteen grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Hampton Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Carnes officiating. Burial followed in the Coon Branch cemetery.

Hubbard, Hobart

Hobert Hubbard, 82, of Arjay, passed away on May 6, 2007 at the Pineville Community Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Bell County and a brother and member of the Straight Creek Pentecost Holiness Church. He had worked in the coal mines, log woods and for Bell Whitley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Issac and Margret Hubbard, a daughter, Geraldine Taylor, daughter-in-law, Phyllis Hubbard, six brothers, Baxter, Neal, Carl, Lawrence, Robert (Bob) and Leon Hubbard and a sister, Florence Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Gracie Gambrel Hubbard of Arjay, five sons, Arthur and wife, Jean of Indianapolis, IN, Leonard and wife, Marie of Arjay, Dewey and wife, Sylvia of Cumberland Gap, TN, Virgil and wife, Ruby of Pineville and Dale and wife, Mavis of Harlan; sons-in-law, Jesse Taylor of Turkey Creek, seventeen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, five sisters, Ingrid, Gladys, Hester, Della and Beulah Mae, brother, Issac Junior Hubbard and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday at the Straight Creek Pentecost Holiness Church with Rev. George Neal, Rev. David Asher, Rev. John Neal and Rev. Jonathan Marcum. Music will be by the Church family. Burial will follow in the Pinelawn Memorial Gardens, Pineville, with grandsons serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Kaw, John Gambrel, Junior Gambrel, Delbert Gambrel and Johnny Brock.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 PM Tuesday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and after 12 Noon Wednesday at the Straight Creek Pentecost Holiness Church. Arrangements are by the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville.

Hubbard, Virgie Smith

Virgie SMITH HUBBARD, 78, of Coles Trailer Court, Barbourville, died June 3, 1990 in the Knox County General Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Lewis LAWSON and Martha MERIDITH LAWSON and born to them on November 7, 1911 in Bell County.

Mrs. Hubbard was a member of the Callihan Baptist Church.

In 1928 she united in marriage with Boyd SMITH, who preceded her in death on January 24, 1975.

On April 13, 1977, she united in marriage with Shelby HUBBARD.

A son, J.B. SMITH, preceded her in death on February 5, 1960 and three sisters, Dora LAWSON, Mallie TAYLOR and Lizza BAKER, and a brother, Jeff LAWSON, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Hubbard is survived by her husband, Shelby HUBBARD of Barbourville; two daughters, Mrs. David (Ella Mae) SPANOGLE of Jarvis, Mrs. Cecil (Ethel) SMITH, also of Jarvis; four sons, J.C. SMITH of Woollum, Arthur SMITH of Fort Wayne, Ind., Luther SMITH of London, Luster SMITH of Jarvis; a step-son, Johnny Ray SANDLIN of Covington; five sisters, Lucy GAMBREL, Bessie JACKSON, Hester BAUGHN, all fo Arjay, Fannie SMITH of Barbourville and Ella JONES of Heidrick; two brothers, George LAWSON of Lenoir City, Tenn., and Rant LAWSON of Beverly, Ky.; 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Services were conducted at the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel June 5 at 2 p.m. with Rev. John R. HASH and Rev. Hurla PHILLIPS officiating.

Interment was in the Boyd Smith Family cemetery on Elam Branch at Jarvis.

Pallbearers were grandsons and grandsons-in-law of Mrs. Hubbard.

Idyle, Effie Jackson

PINEVILLE - Effie Jackson Idyle, 80, passed away Friday, August 13, 2004, at Baptist Regional Medical Center, Corbin, Ky.

Born January 13, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Martha Jackson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Ed Idyle.

Survivors include her nephew and his wife Ronald and Coleen Idyle, Macomb, Mich.; brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Ellie Idyle, Warren, Mich.; niece and her husband, Elka and Richard Moore, New Baltimore, Mich.; nephews Jasie and Arnold Jones, Sterling Heights, Mich.; nieces and their husbands, Shirley and Jerry Monday, Barbourville, Ky., Patricia Butler Collins, Barbourville, Ky., Elsie and Sillis Howard, Barbourville, Ky., Shelby and Ginny Davis, Florida; special friends, Billie Roop, and Ollie and Vernon Stewart; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Creech-Durham Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Sowders and Chaplain Verson Stewart presiding. Music will be provided by Joyce Cox.

Burial will be in Pinelawn Memorial Gardens at East Pineville. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Creech-Durham Funeral Home, Pineville, is in charge of arrangements.

Jackson, Bessie Lawson

ARJAY — Bessie Lawson Jackson, 86, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at the Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Born in Beverly, Ky., on April 6, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Martha Meredith Lawson. She was a member of the Straight Creek Pentecost Holiness Church, and had been a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Jackson; daughter, Dorothy Gibbons; brothers and sisters, Mallie Taylor, George Lawson, Rant Lawson, Dora Lawson, Virgie Hubbard, Fannie Smith and Ella Jones.

Survivors include her children, Wanda Deaton and husband, Jim of Arjay, Lewis Jackson of New Tazewell, and Donald Jackson of Middlesboro; son-in-law, Ralph Gibbons of Arjay, grandchildren, Kimmy L. Jackson, Pamela A. Owens, Charlene R. Davis, Michael F. Jackson, Kentherlan Brown, Tara Rainey and Donna Myers; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucy Gambrel and Hester Vaughn, both of Arjay; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m Saturday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with the Rev. George Neal, the Rev. David Asher, the Rev. John Neal and David Philpot presiding. Music will be by the Church Family.

Burial will be in Green Hills Memorial Gardens, Middlesboro, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 9 p.m. Friday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville.

Jackson, Claude

Claude Jackson, 59, Toledo, Ohio, died March, 13, 2006, at St. Vincent's Mercy Medical Center.

A native of Bell County, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Jackson; and a brother, Charles.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jackson; his children: Catherine McNeil; and Paul Jackson and wife, Anna; his mother, Gladys; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four brothers: Wayne, Henry, Raymond and Creed; and four sisters: Helen, Beverly, Mildred and Vivian.

Visitation is today from 6 to 8 p.m. at H.H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home in Toledo, Ohio.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.Burial will follow in Forest cemetery.
