JOAN EASTMAN
Joan W. Eastman, 77, of Nicholasville, widow of George Eastman, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008 after a brief illness.
She was born January 12, 1931 in Boston, MA to the late Ray Wallace and Alice Holland Wallace Tonis.
She was a retired realtor for over 30 years, member of Pax Christi Catholic Church in Lexington and a volunteer at Jessamine County Public Library.
Survivors include: her children, Colleen (Jon) Hall of Harrodsburg, George “Ace” (Jennifer) Eastman, Peter (Rina) Eastman, Donald (Kathy) Seipel, Marie (Peter) Carletti, Theresa (Sean) Folan, Joan Halloran, and Linda Monte; 12 grandchildren, two great grandchildren; one brother, Barry (Terrie) Wallace.
Joan was preceded in death by a special friend, James Gugeler.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, June 3, at the Pax Christi Catholic Church with Rev. Richard D. Edelen officiating.
Donations are suggested to Jessamine County Public Library, Pax Christi Catholic Church or Reading Camp c/o Episcopal Diocese of Lexington.
DOROTHY ELDER
Dorothy Marie Elder, 61, of Harrodsburg, died on May 29, 2008 of lung cancer.
Born May 18, 1947, she was the daughter of Mattie Elder of Danville.
In addition to her mother, survivors include: two daughters, Melissa Segal of Frankfort and Melinda Byrd of Burgin; two brothers, Tommy Taylor of Harrodsburg and Charles Taylor of West Liberty; one sister, Gerldine Webb of Salt Lake, FL; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 5 at the Bethel Baptist Church with Brad King officiating.
EUGENE FAULKNER
Eugene Faulkner, 80, of Burgin, died Saturday, May 31, 2008 at the VA Medical Center, in Lexington after a short illness.
Born Sept. 28, 1927 in Burgin, he was the son of the late Thomas and Maggie Bartleson Faulkner and was the husband of Peggy Ann Holly Faulkner.
He was a retired employee of the Burgin Tool and Die Company, a US Navy Veteran of the Korean War, a member of the VFW and DAV, a former member of the Silver Cord Lodge and a member and deacon of the Little Zion Baptist Church in Burgin.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: three sons, John Taylor, Jr. of Harrodsburg, Kyle (Marsha) Taylor of Burgin and Eugene (Jennifer) Faulkner, Jr. of California; three daughters, Elois Williams and Denise (Jose’) Walker both of Harrodsburg and Kiona Alexander of Burgin; one sister, Nannie Bell Coward of Louisville; 18 grandchildren and 5 great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Sam Banks, Charles and Thomas Faulkner and four sisters, Louise Morrow, Cynthia, Katherine and Mary Faulkner.
The funeral was held Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at the Little Zion Baptist Church in Burgin with Dr. Phillip A. Yates officiating. Burial was in Camp Nelson National Cemetery
in Jessamine County with military honors.
Pallbearers were Jose’ Walker, D. Tyrone Walker, Ishmael C. Taylor, Christian D. Faulkner, Jamel Taylor and Terry L. Williams, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were Deacons and Trustees of the Little Zion Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the M.M. Johnson Scholarship Fund c/o The Little Zion Baptist Church or to the VA Medical Center, Hospice Unit on Leestown Road, Lexington.
The Parks Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
EDWARD GRIFFIETH
Edward Eugene Griffieth, 82, of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, May 29, 2008 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.
Born Aug. 13, 1925 in Garrard County, he was the son of the late Abe and Mary Virgie Davis Griffieth.
He was past commander of American Legion Post # 8, also a member of the VFW. He served in the US Army during WWII where he received a purple heart with oak leaf cluster and four bronze stars and was a retired building contractor.
Survivors include: two sons, Ricky Moberly of Salvisa and Jeff Moberly of Sadieville; two sisters, Betty McGinnis of Harrodsburg and Jewell Buchanan of Middletown, OH; one brother, Roy Griffieth of Stanford and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Monday, June 2 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Burial was in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery
with military rites.
Pallbearers were Matthew, Joe and Billy McGinnis, Bart Allen, Stanley Patton and Eddie Goodlett.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Heritage Hospice.

June 2, 2008.
Those attending were Curtis Sherrow, Tom Rappleye, Kris Stines, Joe Harlow, Floyd Shirley, Lucian Landers and Howard H. Howells Sr.
Zenah Teater III served as bugler.
Army representatives from Fort Knox were SSG Lonnie Horne and SFC Derryl Perry.
JAMES HENSLEY
James Hensley, 59, of Somerset passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at UK Medical Center in Lexington.
He was born in Highland, KY on February 17, 1949 to Nancy Hoskins McAninch, Poplarville Community and the late Bennie Hensley.
He enjoyed NASCAR, fishing and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: his wife, Linda Smith Hale Hensley whom he married April 8, 1999 in London, KY; his mother, Nancy Hoskins McAninch and step-father Carnell McAninch, Poplarville Community; two sons, James (Kenna) Hensley II, Lancaster, and Jason (Amanda) Hensley, Russell Springs; a step-son, Robert Massengill, Somerset; two step daughters, Sheri (Richard) Sears, Lisa (Lige) Stearns, both of Poplarville Community; three brothers, Bennie (Francis) Hensley, Somerset, George (Shelia) Hensley, Burgin, and Wayne (Mary) Hensley, Poplarville; a sister, Alice (Phil) Clark, Danville; four step-sisters, Judy (Lyndell) Sims, Kings Mountain, Jean (Freddie) Padgett, Waynesburg, Rita (Douglas) Slone, Waynesburg, and Carnetta Collins, Waynesburg; 10 grandchildren, Michael Hensley, James Hensley III, Stacy Hutchins, Marina Sears, Chase Hensley, Erin Hensley, Brandon Massengill, Isaac Stearns, Heather Stearns, Amber Stearns and two great-grandchildren, Jarod Hutchins, Makenzie Hutchins.
Along with his father, Bennie Hensley, he is preceded in death by a brother, Mark Allen Hensley and an infant sister, Sue Hensley.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home in Somerset with Bro Steve Sutton officiating. Interment will follow in Peck Cemetery
in Lincoln County.
Visitation will be held on Thursday after 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
JOYCE IVY
Joyce Ann Ivy, 61, of Dunnville in Casey County, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2008 at her residence.
Born November 8, 1946 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Whitt Relford and Betty Jean Naylor. She was the widow of Willis Parks Ivy.
She was a retired waitress and loved flowers and little children.
Survivors include: one son, Kevin Joseph (Brenda) Ivy of Sharpsburg; two daughters, Kim (John) Boggs of Louisa and Kathy Ivy of Dunnville; a special niece, Renee Thrasher of Harrodsburg; three brothers, Andrew Relford of Cynthiana, and Bobby and Ronnie Relford both of Lexington; four sisters, Joan Williams, Charlene Atkins, and Pam Williams all of Lexington, and Tina Coleman of McKinney, one granddaughter, Jessica Boggs, and an honorary grandson, Keith Daniel White .
She was preceded in death by one son, Keith Ivy; one brother, Donald Relford, and one sister, Judy Vanderpool.
A celebration of life service was held Tuesday, June 3, at the Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home in Waynesburg. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
BILL LAINHART
Bill J. Lainhart, 60, of Harrodsburg, died Monday, June 2, 2008 at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington.
Born Nov. 4, 1947, he was the son of the late Allie Elizabeth Sheperson and was the husband of Martha Elder Lainhart.
He had worked at Wausau Paper for thirteen years and at IBM/Lexmart in Lexington for twenty-seven years. He attended Carpenter’s Christian Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Roxanne L. (Greg) Bronner of Clearwater, FL and Robin L. (Brian) Perrin of Nicholasville; one son, Brian C. (Amber) Lainhart of Garrard County; one step-daughter, Rhonda S. (M. Grant) Tilley of Guin, AL; one step-son, John M. (Leighanna) Stevenson of Winchester; one sister, Lenora Hudsbeth of Lexington; his aunt and uncle, Edna and Eb Hisle of Sand Gap; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Richard McKinley and Greg Warren officiating. Burial will be in Burgin Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Mark Darnell, Fred Brown, David Brown, Rick Baker, Darren Sinkhorn and David Lay.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Wausau Maintenance Department.
Visitation will be 5 – 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 7 a.m. Thursday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

BERNAL MCINTYRE
Bernal “B” Wheeler McIntyre, 45, the Meat Department Manager for the Versailles Kroger store, died unexpectedly on Sunday, June 1, 2008 in Titusville, FL while on vacation.
Born June 23, 1962 in Woodford County, he was the son of Billy McIntyre of Versailles and the late Susie Wheeler McIntyre.
He was a Kroger employee for over 30 years.
He was preceded in death by and a brother, Bryan McIntyre.
Additional survivors include: his wife, Marie Bentley McIntyre of Versailles, two children, Danielle McIntyre of Berea, and Mason McIntyre of Versailles, his grandmother, Emma Wheeler of Versailles, two aunts, Bernice Robinson of Lawrenceburg, Carol Ann Carpenter of Baton Rouge, LA, and his mother-in-law, Flo Bentley of Harrodsburg.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 6, at 11 a.m. at the Blackburn and Ward Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will be in Rose Crest Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Woodford Christian School, 320 Hope Lane, Versailles, KY 40383.
HUDSON NICHOLS
Hudson McAfee Nichols died March 15, 2008 in Harrodsburg.
Born August 30, 1924 in Danville, he was a son of John Carlisle and Martha Hudson Nichols and was the husband of Betty Sharp Nichols.
He graduated from Danville High School in 1942 where he lettered in basketball and football. He graduated from the University of Kentucky where he was president of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
He served in the United States Army during World War II in Europe, receiving a bronze star, received his master’s degree from the University of Missouri in fisheries management, was a fisheries biologist for the state of Tennessee, serving many years as Chief of the Fisheries Division of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and served as President of the Southern Division of the American Fisheries Society.
He was a member of the Harrodsburg Historical Society, the James Harrod Trust, the American Fisheries Society, the Friends of Pleasant Hill, a member and past Elder of New Providence Presbyterian Church and served for many years as a Trustee and Treasurer of New Providence Cemetery
Fund.
Survivors include: two daughters, Nancy N. (Rick) Kinkade, and Cynthia N. Rosenberger; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Reynierson and Mary Jean Crews; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at New Providence Presbyterian Church in McAfee.

HAROLD BALLARD
Harold David Ballard, 86, of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, June 5, 2008 at his home.
Born April 18, 1922 in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Charlie Hatson and Lora Matilda Price Ballard and was the husband of Jewell Maretta Evans Ballard.
He served during World War II in the U. S. Navy, was a retired Kentucky Utilities supervisor and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church. He was also a Life Member of the Mercer County Fish and Game Club, Masonic Lodge # 777 F & AM and the American Legion.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter; Peggy Jo Long; two sons, David Keith Ballard and Charles Evans Ballard, of Harrodsburg; one sister, Ruby Carpenter of Raleigh, NC; one brother, Robert “Bob” Ballard of Lancaster; eight grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Hungate, a brother, Sam Ballard and a sister, Pauline Mauldin.
The funeral was held Sunday, June 8, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dan Francis and Kenneth Whitehouse officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were H. T. Logue, Rob Larmour, Andy Baker, Travis Lanham, Keith and Kipp Ballard.
Honorary pallbearers were Members of the Glad Hand Sunday School Class.
