JOE KIDD

Elza "Joe" Kidd, 63, of Waynesburg died Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at his home.

Born July 10, 1945, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Elderberry Kidd and Smarie Carpenter Kidd.

He was a farmer and a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Janet Hinds Kidd of Waynesburg; one son, Scotty Kidd of Stanford; three daughters, Janet Marie Kidd, Sandra Kidd and Laurie Long, all of Waynesburg; four brothers, James Kidd of Waynesburg, Bobby Jones of Georgetown, Sherman Jones of West Liberty, and Charles Ragan of MS; four sisters, Lela Cherry of Charlestown, IN, Sue Blanton of Crab Orchard, Faye Kidd of Harrodsburg, and Rosie Swope of Bryantsville; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Thursday, July 9, at the Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, Stanford, officiated by Bro. Bert Hall. Burial will be in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.

Casketbearers were Dustin Goode, Josh Kidd, Matthew McCarty, Chris Kidd, Corey Goode and Jimmy Baker Jr.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be given to American Cancer Association.

TOMMY KINMAN

Tommy Lee Kinman, a Lexington resident and formerly of Warsaw, passed away Sunday July 5, 2009 at his home at the age of 67. He was born March 18, 1942 in Warsaw, the son of the late Perry and Molly Rector Kinman.

Survivors include: three sons, Michael Smith of Somerset, Terry Smith of Arizona and Eric Smith of Corinth; three daughters, Cindy Lou of Indiana, Melissa Royse of Harrodsburg and Brenda Smith of Texas ; four brothers, Freddie Kinman of Worthville, Arthur Kinman of Owenton, Oliver Kinman of Magnolia, TX and John Peckinpaugh of Humble, TX; three sisters, Oggie Cutishaw of Magnolia, TX, Bonnie Wright of Groveton, TX and Joyce Kinman of Little Rock. Seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive.

Preceding him in death were a sister, Iva Dean, and a brother, Charles Kinman.

Graveside services were held on Wednesday, July 8, at the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery at 2 p.m.

Donations may be made to the Garnett-New-McDonald Funeral Home, Owenton, for expenses.

MARSDON LAKE

Marsdon B. Lake, 86, Bohon Road, Harrodsburg, husband of Agnes Taylor Lake, died Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born May 23, 1923 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Harve M. and Cynthia (Warner) Lake.

He was a rural route mail carrier for many years and a member of the Grapevine Christian Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughter, Linda Lake; daughter-in-law, Jane Lake; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Milton Gale Lake

Services will be conducted 2 p.m., Friday, July 17 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Claude Waldridge officiating. Burial will be in the Grapevine Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Benton Lake, Ryan Lake, Kenton Lake, Gene Taylor, Sonny Roberts and David Drury. Honorary Bearers are Glen Reynolds, Wayne Reynolds, Sam Rasnake, Harvey Morris, Bobby Taylor, Jackie Springate, John Wayne Peavler and Carlos Lester.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 16 from 5-8 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel and prior to the service on Friday.

Memorials are suggested to the Grapevine Cemetery Fund.

JERRY PEAVLER

Jerry V. Peavler, 55, of Lexington, died Tuesday, July 14.

Born Jan. 3, 1954 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of J.B. Peavler of Freeport, OH and Helen Durr of Harrodsburg. He was a 1972 graduate of Mercer County High School, a member of Southland Christian Church in Lexington and an employee of Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Georgetown.

In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Vickie Peavler of Harrodsburg; a son, Garrett Peavler of Lexington; a daughter, Carla Alcorn of Danville; stepfather, Coleman Durr of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Darrell (Carolyn) Peavler of Greenwood, IN and Jay Peavler of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Janice Lynn (Gary) Minch of Owenton and Susan Durr of Danville; two stepdaughters, Kasta (Jim) Bartlett of Lexington and Christa (Chris) Sasser of Miamisburg, OH; two granddaughters and three stepdaughters.

Visitation will be held at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Road on Thursday, July 16 from 5-8 p.m. A private funeral and burial will be held.

BETTY PERKINS

Betty Lou Perkins, 65, wife of Ralph Perkins, died Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at her home.

Born August 16, 1943 in Rockcastle County, she was the daughter of the late William Park and Mary Lula Lambert Thomas. She was a homemaker and attended Pioneer Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Jamie (Rick) Pinkston and Dana (PJ) Simpson, both of Lawrenceburg; two step-daughters, Donna (Mike) Stafford of Danville and Lisa (Bee) Sebastian of Lancaster; three brothers, Amos Thomas of Carlisle, Willie Thomas of Franklin, OH, and Brownie Thomas of Berea; one sister, Anna Ellen (Nannie) Reed of Burlington, five grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, two great-grandsons, several nieces nephews and in-laws.

She was preceded in death by her son, Duane Perkins, several brothers and one sister.

Services were conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 11 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. George Dye officiating.

Burial was in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Donnie Hampton, Wayne Holiday, Dwayne Woods, Brandon Sebastian, Eddie Morehead, David Steele and Cleve Webb. Lake Markham served as an honorary pallbearer.

HUBERT ROBINSON

Hubert Lee Robinson, 78, of Lawrenceburg, died Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at his home.

He was born in Mercer County to the late Roy B. and Verna Mae Currens Robinson.

He was retired from General Cable after 15 years of service; a member of Lawrenceburg First Baptist Church; and a Korean War Army veteran.

He is survived by: his wife of 54 years, Shirley Carter Robinson; one daughter, Bonita Robinson Redding, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; two sons, Anthony (Teresa) Robinson, and Barry (Victoria) Robinson, both of Lawrenceburg; six grandchildren, Jason (Kasey) Briscoe, Chad (Carolyn) Robinson, Toni (Ronnie) Miller, Christopher Robinson, and Jeremiah Robinson, all of Lawrenceburg, Wayne (April) Briscoe, Frankfort; 10 great-grandchildren, Katie, Madison, Carter, Makenna and Karington Briscoe, Tyler and Laura Miller, Conner, Daniel, and Anna Fay Robinson; two sisters, Elberta Sea, Lawrenceburg, Evelyn (Jess) McGee, Louisville; two brothers, Randall (Dolly) Robinson and L. H. (Wanda) Robinson, Lawrenceburg; two sisters-in-law, Martha Robinson, Lawrenceburg, Verna Robinson, Burgin; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Adelene Keightley, two brothers, Eugene and J.D. Robinson.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 11, at the Gash Memorial Chapel with Dr. Robert F. Ehr officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 208 Steele Street, Frankfort, KY 40601.

EVELYN BRUMFIELD

Evelyn Ann Cole Brumfield, 86, died Saturday, July 18 in Danville.

Born April 27, 1923 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Lee and Mary Anne Crossfield Cole and the widow of Joe Harvey Brumfield Sr.

Survivors include four children, Harvey (Margie) Brumfield of Garrard County, Barry (Mary) Brumfield of Mercer County, April (John) Crawford of Madison County and Gayle (Phillip) Banta of Jessamine County.

Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 21 at the Pleasant Grove Christian Church in Garrard County with the Rev. David Shoot officiating. Burial followed in the Lexington Cemetery. Kerr Brothers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ROBERT HARDIN

Robert Bruce Hardin, 76, died Saturday July 18, 2009 at St. Dominic Jackson Memorial Hospital in Jackson, MS.

Hardin was a native of Harrodsburg. He served in the U.S. Navy and retired as an OSHA Safety Engineer. He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Gulfport, MS.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Hardin of Madison, MS; a daughter, Sue Ellen (Brian) Scurlock of Madison, MS; two sons, James Leslie (Michelle) Hardin of Jackson, MS and David Cecil (Lori) Hardin of Waynesboro, MS; two grandchildren and five step grandchildren.

The funeral was held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 21 at Natchez Trace Funeral Home. Interment was in Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to an animal shelter of your choice.

DEBBIE HUTCHISON

Debbie Gilkison Hutchison, 53, of Georgetown, wife of Donnie Hutchison, died Friday July 17, 2009 at St. Joseph Hospice Care Center.

She was born in Versailles on April 16, 1956, to Billy and Maxine House Gilkison.

Debbie was a farmer in Scott County.

Along with her husband and parents Debbie is survived by: three sons Christopher, Joshua (Jennifer), and Jordan (Pamela) Hutchison, all of Georgetown; two sisters, Dianne (Mack) Head, and Elizabeth (David) Waterfill, both of Versailles; two brothers Lynn (Cindy) Gilkison, Salvisa and Jim (Lisa) Gilkison, Midway; three grandchildren, Abigail, Riley and Avery Hutchison.

A gathering of family and friends was Sunday, July 19, at the Clark Legacy Center, 601 E. Brannon Rd. Private burial was in Midway Cemetery.

Casketbearers were Penny Greathouse, Sara Wiley, Jennifer and Pamela Hutchison, Patti Welch, Valerie Leathers, Janet McClanahan and Nancy Lu Prewitt.

RALPH MCGUIRE

Ralph G. McGuire, 75, of North Main Street, Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the V.A. Medical Center in Lexington.

Born Nov. 18, 1933 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late John Henry and Eva Opal Darland McGuire. He was a self-employed painter for several years, a U.S. Marine and U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the Korean War; a member of the National Guard, the American Legion, a life member of the V.F.W., a life member of AMVET, a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sisters, Pauline Caine of Louisville, Laverne Grider and Irene Harlow, both of Harrodsburg; three brothers, Leslie McGuire of Louisville, Vernon McGuire and Eugene McGuire, both of Harrodsburg; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Jr., James, Keith, and Kenneth McGuire and one sister, Mary Evelyn McGuire.

Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 18 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating.Burial with military honors was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Eugene McGuire, Vernon McGuire, Leslie McGuire, Tim Springate, Jim Springate, Jim McGuire, and Tony McGuire.

MARY MOWELL

Mary Pauline Pinkston Mowell, 88, of Dania, FL died July 14, 2009.

Born August 26, 1920 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Randall Everett Pinkston and Nellie Mae Johnson.

She attended both Mercer County and Harrodsburg High Schools and worked for the U.S. Social Security Administration in New York and Baltimore.

Survivors include her husband, Theodore Mowell of Dania, FL; one son, Richard Alan Brooking of San Antonio, TX; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three nephews and a niece.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Andrew Dalton Pinkston; her aunt, Ida Johnson Bottoms and uncle, William T. Bottoms who raised her.

A memorial service and burial will be scheduled in Harrodsburg at a later date.

JERRY PEAVLER

Jerry V. Peavler, 55, of Lexington, went home to the be with his Heavenly Father on July 14, 2009 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Jerry was born on January 3, 1954 in Harrodsburg where he grew up. He was a 1972 graduate of Mercer County High School. Jerry was a member of Southland Christian Church in Lexington and was an employee of Toyota Motor manufacturing in Georgetown.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Vickie Peavler of Lexington; and a daughter, Carla Acorn of Danville and a son, Garrett Peavler of Lexington. He is also survived by his mother and stepfather, Helen and Coleman Durr of Harrodsburg; his father, J. B. Peavler of Freeport, Oho; two brothers, Darrell (Carolyn) Peavler of Greenwood, IN and Jay Peavler of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Janice Lynn (Gary) Minch of Owenton, and Susan Durr of Danville; and two granddaughters, Christina and Kennedy Alcorn. Two stepdaughters, Kasta (Jim) Bartlett and Krista (Chris) Sasser, and there step-grandchildren, Kaylee and Christopher Sasser and Wyatt Bartlett also survive.

Visitation was held at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Road, Thursday, July 16, 2009, from 5-9 p.m. A private funeral and burial service was held on Friday, July 17, 2000.
