TREY SOARD

Roy French "Trey" Soard III, 27, the husband of Barbara Soard of Harrodsburg, died Friday, July 31 in Shelby County.

A lover of animals, Trey was a horse trainer of sattlebred horses. Born Augsut 4, 1981 in Woodford County, he resided in Versailles until he was 16, at which time his family moved to Florida. He graduated from high school in Florida and began his career in the equine industry. He returned to Kentucky in 2005. He was a member of the Christian Church (Diciples of Christ).

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are: his parents, J. R. and Teresa Soard of Graham, FL; his sister, Jessica Mitzel of Stark, FL; his brother, Joshua Soard of Graham, FL; a niece and a nephew, Madison and Ty David Mitzel; his maternal grandparents, Keith and Shirley Elliott of Alachua, FL; his paternal grandmother, Martha Soard of Versailles, and his God Son, Nicholas Ryan Demond of Danville.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, August 3, at the Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home, Versailles, with Rev. Mary Beth Harper and Peter Harper officiating.

Memorial contributions in memory of Trey Soard are suggested to the Saddlebred Rescue, Inc., 4 Westview Dr., Blairstown NJ 07825

JOYCE TROUM

Joyce Sexton Troum, 83, died July 31, 2009.

Born July 23, 1926 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Artie Bradford Sexton.

Troum was a resident of Albuquerque since 1964. She was a member of Congregation Albert.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur; seven children, Judy Gayle Kilpatrick, Joy Lee DeRanieri, William Troum, Donna Marcia (George) Brown, Deborah Lynn (Alan) Pfeiffer-Traum, Beth Ann Troum and Lee James (Aili Jokela) Stocker; and three grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, Aug. 4 at Fairview Memorial Park on Yale Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Troum’s name to Congregation Albert, 883-1818.

DOROTHY BAKER

Dorothy Viola Watts Baker, 80, of Harrodsburg, died Monday, Aug. 10, 2009 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born Dec. 9, 1928 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Thomas and Stella Lou Maddox Watts, Sr. She had formerly worked as a waitress at Redwood Restaurant for twenty years. She was also a member of the Grace Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons Cleo W. (Tsvetanka) Baker Jr. and Harold D. (Cookie) Baker, both of Harrodsburg; two daughters, Carole (Gary) Griffieth and Vonny (Billy) Humphrey, both of Mercer County; two brothers, Raymond Watts Jr. of Harrodsburg and Kenneth Dale Watts of Georgetown; three sisters, Ruby Chambers, Mary Baker, and Beverly Griffin, all of Harrodsburg; ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Michael Wayne Baker, one great-grandson Lyndon Lane, her former husband, Cleo W. “Click” Baker Sr., four sisters, Thelma Stephens, Sue Margaret Watts, Juanita Byrd and Georgia Mae Weldon; and two brothers, Ronnie Watts and Iva Watts.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 13 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be held 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday and after 7 a.m. Thursday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

BERNICE HANSON

Bernice Curtis Gaddis Hanson, 91, of Frog Branch Road, died Thursday, August 6, 2009.

Born February 10, 1918 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Arnold Curtis and Mary Jane Dunaway Curtis.

She was a homemaker and a member of Moreland Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, George Edward Gaddis and George Frank Hanson, two brothers Arnold and Clyde Curtis, and one sister Irene McCloud.

She is survived by: two daughters, Betty (Dawson) Terrell of Hustonville and Martha Frances (Jr.) Kendall of Moreland; two brothers, Earl Curtis of Harrodsburg and Orville Curtis of the Bowen Community, one sister, Mattie Chandler of Vandalia, OH, eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren; along with her caregivers, Chris and David Sanders.

Services were conducted Sunday, August 9, at the W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland, by Rev. David Smith and Rev.Ken Hughes with burial in Hustonville Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Sanders, Jim Kelley, Dale Smith, Shane Rousey, Billy Myers and Elwood Brown.

ELLA HIBBARD

Ella May Hibbard, 59, of Lancaster, wife of Barry Hibbard Sr., passed away on August 7, 2009.

Mrs. Hibbard was born in Lewis County, November 11, 1949, to the late Jessie and Elizabeth Fetters Himes.

She was a medical records clerk and a member of Faith United Community Church.

Besides her husband, she is survived by: one daughter, Stacy (Alex) Maloney, Lexington; two sons, Michael (Melissa) Bowman, Lancaster and Barry (Julie) Hibbard Jr., Stamping Ground; three sisters, Betty Harlow, Nicholasville, Eileen Moore, Danville, Kay Hall, Harrodsburg; three brothers, Ed Himes, Lancaster, Gene Himes, Harrodsburg, Park Himes, Georgia; her grandchildren, Jared, Mason, Jaelyn, McKenzie, Abby, and Jack.

Preceding her in death was her sister, Ruth Leek, and her brother, Dock Himes.

Funeral service was conducted Wednesday, August 12, at 1 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home Versailles Road, Frankfort, KY. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

In honor of Ella's life and legacy, donations may be made to Heritage Hospice in Danville, KY.

ANNA SHEARER

Anna C. Marshall Shearer, wife of 63 years to Robert H. Shearer, passed away on August 5, 2009 at her home in Georgetown.

She was born September 8, 1928 in Scott County, Kentucky to the late Justice and Juanita Bridges Marshall.

She was a member of Georgetown Baptist Church; did home mission work and was involved in the startup of Highland Church, Royal Springs Chapel, Lyle Road Baptist, and Bethel Fellowship. She was a graduate of Oxford High School. She attended Fugazzi Business College. Her career began as an office manager at Dr. Robert Wheelers’ office and she obtained her LPN at the Appalachian School of Nursing. She was a devoted LPN nurse at U.K. Hospital, and served as a private duty nurse. For several years she worked for the United Health Systems, and she was a Senior Citizen Advocate.

She is survived by: her children Robert F. (Lynda) Shearer of Salvisa, and Angela S. (Randall) Wells of Georgetown; grandchildren Robert F. (Karen) Shearer II of Harrodsburg, Richard W. (Jolene) Shearer of Lawrenceburg, and Christie Ann (Brian) Boone of Bowling Green and six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Marshall of Georgetown and Neal Marshall of Cynthiana; and one sister, Lydia McDonald.

She was preceded in death by daughter Regina Gail Shearer, brother Hiram Marshall and sister Martha Lotterhos.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday August 8, at the Tucker, Yocum, & Wilson Funeral Home in Georgetown with Pastor Ken Holden officiating. Burial was in Georgetown Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Randall Wells, Brian Boone, Robert Shearer, Richard Shearer, Ronnie Marshall, Jay Marshall, John G. McDonald and Samuel Shearer.

Honorary bearers were Lydia McDonald, Charles Marshall, Neal Marshall, Harlan McDonald, Faye and Harold Marshall.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 1317 US HWY 62E, Cynthiana, Kentucky 41031 or Georgetown Baptist Church, 207 South Hamilton Street, Georgetown, Kentucky 40324.

TELISSA STEWART

Telissa Lynn Stewart, 41, wife of Terry W. Stewart, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

Born Oct. 8, 1967 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of Frances Puckett Stine of Burgin and the late Ernest Wayne Stine. She was a homemaker, a former employee of Danville Medical Billing and was a member of the Shakertown Baptist Church where she served as the children’s teacher.

In addition to her husband and mother, survivors include two daughters, Megan K. Sims and Renee Sims, both of Burgin, five step-children, seven step-grandchildren, her godchildren, several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Services were conducted Wednesday, Aug. 12 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Smith officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mike Wilson, Terry Wilson, Lee Horner, Jerry Puckett, Hugh Smith and Brian Smith.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Shakertown Baptist Church Children’s Ministry, 2894 Lexington Road, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

LUCRETIA WARD

Lucretia Epperson Ward, 83, formerly of Lexington, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009.

Born in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Emory and May Linda King Epperson.

She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and involved in the 55+ Gang there. She was the former owner of Wheel and Axle Service, she was a past president of the Lexington Business and Professional Women’s Club and was employed by Tree Top Landscaping.

She is survived by her son, John (Carol) Ward of Midway and stepdaughter, Debbie (Wayne) Faulconer of Lexington, four granddaughters, one grandson, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life was held Tuesday, Aug. 11 at the New Hope Baptist Church. The Rev. William Marcum, Dr. Wesley Noss and the Rev. Rick Ralston officiated. Burial followed at Rose Crest Cemetery in Versailles.

Pallbearers were Jack Clark, Brian Dingee, Wayne Faulconer, Aaron Logan, Bobby Murphy and Doug Vescio. Honorary pallbearers were the ladies of her Tapestries of Hope Sunday School class. Arrangements were by Blackburn and Ward Funeral Home in Versailles.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Dr., Lexington, KY 40504-3277 or American Cancer Society, 1504 College Way, Lexington, KY 40502.

GONZELLA YATES

Gonzella Rice Yates, 93, widow of Durwood Yates and formerly of Indianapolis died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born Oct. 11, 1915 in Lawrenceburg, she was the daughter of the late John Will and Adele Utterback Rice. She attended Wiley High School in Terre Haute, IN and Dunbar High School in Lexington. She graduated from the Madam C. J. Walker Hair Culturists Union of America of Indiana and became a beautician and housewife. She was a member of the 2nd Moravian Church in Ohio where she was a member of the Women’s Fellowship Group.

Survivors include one daughter, three grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, cousins and her caretakers. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Services and burial will be held Monday, Aug. 17 in Indianapolis, IN with the arrangements entrusted to the Crown Hill Cemetery and Funeral Home, 700 West 38th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208.

Sims Funeral Services in Harrodsburg was in charge of local arrangements.

WILLIAM ADAMS

William “Bill” Terry Adams, Sr., 73, husband of Connie G. Adams, of Lawrenceburg, died Friday, August 14, 2009 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

He was born October 11, 1935 in Fayette County to the late John W. and Ruth Hart Adams.

Mr. Adams was a member of Pigeon Fork Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, wood working, and working on his trucks. He worked for 20 years with the Kentucky State Police and worked for 17 years with the Kentucky Department of Transportation, Kentucky Department of Finance, and was a veteran of the United States Navy.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Susan Adams of West Virginia, Dawn Adams of Alabama, Aelecia Ritchey (James Burton) of Lawrenceburg, five sons, Sam Barkley of Alaska, Terry (Christina) Adams of Alabama, Joe Barkley of Versailles, Lee (Valarie) Adams of Harrodsburg, Connie Wayne Best of Lawrenceburg, 10 grandchildren, and a brother John Hart (Betty) Adams of Florida.

Funeral service was conducted Sunday, August 16, at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Larry Coleman officiating. Burial followed with military honors in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Casketbearers were Rodney Robinson, John Kearns, Charlie Baker, Jim Tipton, Bill Irwin and Spencer Hughes.

Honorary bearers were Kentucky State Police Troopers.

Memorials are suggested to Kentucky State Police Trooper Island or Kentucky State Police Fallen Officers Fund in care of Kentucky State Police Professional Association 633 Chamberlin Avenue Frankfort, KY 40601.

MARY BROADDUS

Mary Florence Broaddus, 82, of Industry Road, Lancaster, died Saturday August 15, 2009.

She was the daughter of the late Monday Woods and Mary Johnson Broaddus.

Survivors include: one son, Mike Beaty (Linda) of Pikeville; two daughters, Linda Beaty of Harrodsburg and Brenda Durham (Bobby) of Lancaster; one brother, Joe Woods (Shirley) of Lancaster; four sisters, Ann Jones of Harrodsburg, Edith Henson (Jimmy) of Lexington, Joyce Yates (Larry) and Elaine Stinnett, both of Lancaster.

Services were conducted Wednesday, August 19, at the Lancaster First Assembly of God.
