July 26, 1910 -- Aug. 9, 2004

VIDALIA -- Services for Idell Allen, 94, who died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004 at her residence, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Stephens Baptist Church with Rev. Willie Birdon officiating.

Burial will follow in the Vidalia City cemetery under the direction of R.D. Mackel and Sons.

Visitation is from noon to 4 p.m. today at Mackel's Chapel with Eastern Star Rites being performed from 4 to 4:30 p.m.

Mrs. Allen was born on July 26, 1910 in Concordia Parish, La., the daughter of the late Henry and Harriet Singleton.

She was a member of St. Stephens Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir.

She was retired from the Concordia Parish school system.

Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Allen; her parents; a brother, James H. Singleton and sisters, Rosa Youngblood and Adell Singleton.

Survivors include her brother, Clarence and wife Rosemary Singleton of Vidalia; nieces, Claudia Johnson of Dallas, Willie Mae and husband Adam McCullough of Fuster, Mo., Saba Jean Davis of Columbus, Ga., Gloria Jean Harris of Cairo, Ill., Brenda Singleton, Jackie and husband Will Davis, Kim Singleton of Chicago and Renda Singleton of Vidalia; nephews, James C. Singleton of Roseburg, Ore., Charles Johnson of Tustin, Calif., and Jimmie Singleton of Chicago; 13 great nieces and nephews, five great, great nieces and nephews; special cousin Marilyn Buckner of Vidalia and a host of relatives and friends; special neighbors, Mary Burden and Melvin Cooper and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Dale, Pat Dale, she raised.

Pallbearers will be James Harold, Fritz Beard, Morris Lee, Johnny Vantree, Frank Warner and Clarence Randall.

Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of the church.

Lawson Wimberly

FERRIDAY -- Funeral arrangements for Lawson Wimberly, 91, who died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, are incomplete at Young's Funeral Home.

Elnora Watkins Riley

Dec. 7, 1927 - Aug. 4, 2004

VIDALIA, La. - Services for Elnora Watkins Riley, 76, of Vidalia, La., who died Aug. 4, 2004 at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be today at 11 a.m. at Young's Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Raymond Riley, Sr. officiating.

Burial will be in the Vidalia cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.

Ms. Riley was born Dec. 7, 1927, in Natchez, the daughter of Noah and Cassade Matthews Watkins.

She was a retired daycare owner. She was a member of the American Legion Post 590 of Vidalia; O.E.S.; Member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where she served as Youth Coordinator, Sunday School Teacher and a number of other community clubs.

Survivors include three sons, Noah Riley of Lynwood, Ill., Alvin Riley (Lillie) of Blyville, Ark., Calvin Riley of Chicago, Ill.; four daughters, Jacintha Riley-Galloway (Carl) of Aurora, Ill., Parmer Brown of Vidalia, Sandra Puch (Bobby) of Blyville, Ark., Tyberia Bell of Natchez; one sister, Helen Jacobs (Willie) of Chicago, Ill.; twelve grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Marvin L. Kelley

FERRIDAY, La. - Services for Marvin L. Kelley, 88, of Ferriday, La., who died Sunday, August 8, 2004, at Camelot Lesuire Living Ferriday, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Young's Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Nickelson and the Rev. Randy Coleman officiating.

Burial will be in the New Pine Hill cemetery in Sicily Island, La. under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Irene Worley McGuffee

March 2, 1928 -- Aug. 9, 2004

ROSEFIELD, La. -- Services for Irene Worley McGuffee, 76, of Rosefield, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Rosefield Baptist Church with the Revs. Harrell Tucker and Marshall Douglas officiating.

Dr. Hannah Clark and John Ed Bartmess will deliver the eulogy.

Interment will follow in the Rosefield cemetery.

Eva Irene Worley McGuffee of Rosefield died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria.

She was a resident of the Columns Retirement Center in Jonesville.

Irene was born March 2, 1928, the daughter of Allison Foster Worley Sr. and Velma Hall Worley.

In 1946, she graduated from Gretna High School. She continued her education at Southeastern Louisiana College in Hammond, where she received her B.A. in 1949. After graduating from Southeastern, Irene began her 20-year teaching career at Enterprise High School.

In October 1949, she married Cecil Clyde McGuffee of Enterprise, with whom she had one son and two daughters. She later pursued her education further, receiving her M.A. from Northwestern State University of 1965.

A social studies teacher, Irene enjoyed studying history and reading. She was involved in the Elizabeth Thompson Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she had held the office of Worthy Matron. Irene was also a member of Rosefield Baptist Church and had served as a Sunday school teacher.

Irene McGuffee is survived by her husband, Cecil Clyde McGuffee Sr.; her daughter, Velma McGuffee Bulter of Rosefield, and her husband, Gary; her son, Cecil Clyde McGuffee Jr. of Harrisonburg, and his wife, Cindy; and her daughter Rachel McGuffee Breithaupt of Jonesville and her husband, Craig.

Her eight grandchildren are Angela Butler and her husband, Paul, Christopher Butler and his wife, Marilyn, Jessica Butler, Andrew Butler, Jennifer McGuffee, Emily McGuffee, Benjamin Breithaupt and Evelyn Breithaupt.

Caitlin Walpole, Leanne Butler, Alexander Butler, Marcus Butler and Josef Butler are her five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Butler, Benjamin Breithaupt, Andrew Butler, Mike McGuffee Jr., Heath McGuffee and Denis Jacobson.

Alexander Butler, Marcus Butler and Josef Butler will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Aubrey C. Hamilton

March 7, 1952 -- Aug. 7, 2004

MANIFEST, La. -- Services for Aubrey C. Hamilton, 52, of Sicily Island, who died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Community Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Claude Terrall and Ronnie House officiating.

Burial will follow in Highland Park cemetery in Sicily Island under the direction of Comer Funeral Home of Ferriday.

Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. today until service time Monday at the church.

Mr. Hamilton was born March 7, 1952, in Jonesville, the son of John C. and Viola C. Hamilton.

He was a truck driver and a member of Community Pentecostal Church in Manifest.

He had been a resident of Sicily Island for 11 years and was employed at Lynn Evans Trucking Co. in Sicily Island. He was a member of Community Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Angela G. Hamilton; three stepsons, Jeremy Hamilton of Sicily Island and Roger Boyette and Harvey Boyette, both of Jena; one stepdaughter, Rhonda Hamilton of Alexandria; three brothers, Lester Hamilton of Sicily Island, Ronnie Hamilton of Springfield and Martine Hamilton of Baton Rouge; three sisters, Irene Hamilton of Epps and Elizabeth Punchard and Vera Smart, both of Sicily Island; and stepgrandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.

Pallbearers will be Craig Sanders, R.J. Punchard, Mark Punchard, Johnny Hamilton, Ernest Hamilton, Wayne Shirley and Woodie Ford.

Geneva Bates Mack Gibson

Sept. 19, 1916 - Aug. 4, 2004

FERRIDAY, La. - Services for Geneva Bates Mack Gibson, 87, of Ferriday, who died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at her daughter's residence in Ferriday, will be at 11a.m. today at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church with Rev. James Washington officiating.

Burial will be in the Whitehall cemetery in Vidalia, La. under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.

Ms. Gibson was born Sept. 19, 1916, in Natchez, the daughter of the late Vincent and Sarah Mack.

She was a homemaker.

Ms. Gibson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willie Gibson; and one sister, Maggie Plummer,

Survivors include four sons, McKinley Bates (Debra), Arthur Bates (Annie) all of Vidalia, La., Julius Mack (Delores) of Houston, Texas, Vincen Mack (Clara) of Sacramento, Calif.; three daughters, Phyllis Ellis (Ernest), Janie Bates, Velma Fortune (Robert), all of Ferriday, La.; two nephews; thirty-four grandchildren, one hundred ten great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren.

Earl Ray Guin, Jr.

WATERPROOF - Services for Earl Ray Guin, Jr., 36, of Waterproof, La., who died Thursday, August 5, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center, will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Young's Funeral Home.

Burial will be in the Legion Memorial cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Guin was a service manager at Goldman Equipment Company, an avid hunter and outdoorsman, and enjoyed raising quarter horses.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Vina Mae Guin.

Survivors include his wife, Cassandra Lynn Guin; father, Earl Ray Guin, Sr.; mother, Rita Zeek Trahan; daughter Nikki L. Guin; brother, Lanie Guin; sister, Charlene Guin; and paternal grandfather R. L. Guin.

Pallbearers will be Keith Smith, Balfour Miller, Arthur Peters, Greg Rabb, Joe Hurt, Lanie Guin, and Carl Frank Olds.

Honorary Pallbearers are the Goldman Equipment Family.

Memorials are asked to be made to the American Cancer Society.

Dell Granger

Oct. 21, 1920 - Aug. 4, 2004

SICILY ISLAND, La. - Services for Dell Granger, 83, of Sicily Island, La., who died Wednesday, August 4, 2004, will be at 10 a.m. today at New Hope Pentecostal Church with Bro. Roy Archer officiating.

Burial will be in the Highland Park cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home Ferriday.

Geneva Bates Gibson

Sept. 19, 1916 - Aug. 4, 2004

FERRIDAY, La. - Services for Geneva Bates Gibson, 87, of Ferriday, who died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at her daughter's residence in Ferriday, will be at 11a.m. Saturday at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church with Rev. James Washington officiating.

Joe Williams

Oct. 4, 1915 - Aug. 3, 2004

FERRIDAY, La. - Services for Joe Williams, 88, of Ferriday, who died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church on Second Street, Ferriday with the Rev. L.B. Oliver officiating.

Burial will follow at Ferriday cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Williams was born Oct. 4, 1915, in Fairview, La., the son of Arthur and Gertrude Williams.

Mr. Williams was preceded in death by one son, Willie Conner.

Survivors include one son, Nathaniel Conner of Ferriday; one daughter, Ethel Conner of Ferriday; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
