James Harris Blom

Aug. 19, 1925 - Sept. 22, 2003

James Harris Blom of Ferriday, LA, passed away on Sept. 22, 2003, at the home of his granddaughter in Natchez.

Mr. Blom was born Aug. 19, 1925, in Wilmington, Del., the son of Ben and Vermel Blom.

Mr. Blom was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Lou Hopson; and brother, Benjamin Blom.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Charles Baroni of Natchez; his granddaughter and her husband, Melissa and Todd Rymer of Natchez; brother-in-law, Joseph Hopson of Morgan City, LA; four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Parker, Lauren and Caroline Rymer, all of Natchez.

As per his wishes, there will not be a funeral or memorial service, instead, please send a donation to the American Cancer Society in memory of Harry, who will be missed by his many friends in Ferriday.

Mr. Blom's family would like to extend sincere appreciation to the Hospice Ministries and to Dr.'s Rodriquez and Huey Moak for the care received during his battle with cancer. A special thanks to Ann Cobb of Hospice Ministries.

Martha Dishmon

March 13, 1921 - Nov. 1, 2003

FERRIDAY, LA - Services for Martha Dishmon, 82, of Ferriday, who died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. James Baptist Church in Ferriday with the Rev. Lee Andrew Martin officiating.

Burial will be in the Ferriday cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Dishmon was born March 13, 1921, in Ferriday.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Dishmon was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James Dishmon and three children.

Survivors include sister-in-law, Leola Dishmon of Ferriday and 15 grandchildren.

Tanayia Wilson

Feb. 21, 2002 - Nov. 3, 2003

FERRIDAY, LA - Graveside services for Tanayia Wilson, 20 months, of Ferriday, who died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ferriday cemetery with the Rev. Dave Mays officiating.

Burial will follow under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Tanayia was born Feb. 21, 2002, in Natchez, the daughter of Jolanda Wilson.

Survivors include her mother, Jolanda Wilson of Ferriday; grandparents, Ulandia Wilson Jefferson and Johnnie Hall of Ferriday; one aunt, Shanta Wilson; two uncles, Lamark Meredith and Reginald Wilson, Sr. of Ferriday; two great-aunts, Debra Mayes and husband, Jerry and Cora Lewis of Ferriday; special friend, James Taylor of Ferriday; special cousins, Jerry Mayes, Gary Mayes, Shemeka Wilson, Ka'drea Wilson, all of Ferriday, Reginald Wilson, Jr. of Woodville, James Scott and Joey Wilson of Dallas, TX.

Thelma Marie Thomas

Sept. 6, 1946 - Oct. 30, 2003

FERRIDAY, LA - Services for Thelma Marie Thomas, 56, of Ferriday, who died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, LA, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mercy Seat Baptist Church in Ferriday with the Rev. Justin Conner officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home of Ferriday.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ms. Thomas was born Sept. 6, 1946, in Ferriday, the daughter of Hiram and Willie Hill Thomas.

She was a Home Health Nurse and a Baptist.

Ms. Thomas was preceded in death by her father and one brother, Roosevelt Thomas, Sr.

Survivors include her mother, Willie Lee Hill Thomas of Ferriday; two brothers, James Thomas of Chicago, IL and Vernell Thomas and wife, Elnora of Natchez; four sisters, Rosetta Mack and husband, Joe of Oakland, CA, Glenda Morales and husband, Pete, Maxine Duncan and husband, Antoine, all of Ferriday and Lillie Fleming and husband, James of Detroit, MI; devoted friend, Nathaniel Williams of Vidalia, LA; one god child, LaShaunda Harris of Cartersville, GA; one god brother, Leren Curry of Vidalia; one aunt, Edith Snyder of Ferriday; one uncle, Tom Thomas and wife, Tressie of Ferriday; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

S. L. Ford

JONESVILLE, LA - Services for S. L. Ford, 81, of Monterey, LA, who died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at Christus St. Francis Cabrini in Alexandria, LA, will be at 2 p.m. today at Young's Funeral Home of Jonesville with the Rev. Russell Crum and the Rev. Paul Stevens officiating.

Burial will be in Ford cemetery in Monterey under the direction of Young's Funeral Home Jonesville.

He was a resident of Monterey, a farmer, and a member of the Monterey Church of Christ. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater, on his way to Japan when the Atom bomb was dropped at Hiroshima.

Mr. Ford was preceded in death by a son, Steve Ford, Jr.; his mother, May Lanehart Ford; his father, Steve S. Ford; two sisters, Jennie Mae Green and Christine Holland.

Survivors include his wife, Claudia Zimmerman Ford of Monterey; two sons, Pete Ford and Buster Ford of Monterey; one daughter, Lydia Massa of Breaux Bridge, LA; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Michael Ebersole, Jimmy Holland, Boo Holland, Pat Smith, Stephen Moreland, Thomas Green, Phillip Spinks and Pete Wheeler.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bozo Blount, Warren J. Holland, Sidney Wiley, Doug Massa, Danny Brantley, Dave Yarbrough and Dee Brown.

A.B. "Buddy" Chisum

April 28, 1910 - Nov. 3, 2003

SICILY ISLAND, LA - Services for A. B. "Buddy" Chisum, 93, of Sicily Island, who died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sicily Island United Methodist Church with the Rev. William Foster and the Rev. Ralph Webber officiating.

Burial will in Highland Park cemetery in Sicily Island under the direction of Comer Funeral Home of Ferriday.

Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Chisum was born April 28, 1910, in Sicily Island, the son of E.W. Chisum, Sr. and Nell Ballard Chisum.

He was a farmer, a cattleman, landowner and gravel contractor and was a member of Sicily Island United Methodist Church. Mr. Chisum graduated from Louisiana State University in 1933 with a B.S. in Geology. He was president of Sicily Island Rotary Club when Highland cemetery was established. He was on the Board of Directors of Catahoula Bank, Ferriday Finance and Board of Directors when Catahoula Hospital was built. He was a member of Sicily Island United Methodist Church and chairman of the board when the new church was built. Mr. Chisum was a 32nd degree Scotish Rite Mason and Shriner, also a charter member of the Sicily Island Lions Club, a member of Acaeia Temple of Baton Rouge and Associate member of Barak Temple of Monroe. Mr. Chisum owned and operated A. B. Chisum Gravel Company for 53 years and was co-owner of Sicily Island Gravel Company.

Mr. Chisum was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, E.W. Chisum; and his first wife, Marjorie Montgomery Chisum.

Survivors include his children, A.B. Chisum, Jr. and wife, Susan of Jonesville, LA, Stewart Chisum and wife, Bessie of Beaumont, TX, Blair Chisum Erwin and husband, Steve of Baton Rouge, LA; grandson, John Chisum of New Orleans, LA; and wife, Madlon Meyers Chisum of Sicily Island.

Pallbearers will be J. Tuffy Parish, M.B. Nolen, III, H.C. Peck, Jr., James White, Dr. W.C. Coney and Lynn Evans.

Honorary pallbearers will be Board of Directors of Catahoula Bank, Wedon T. Smith, O.G. Wynn, Marvin Nolen, Jr., Marcus Evans and George Evans.

Raymond Lee Thomas Jr.

FERRIDAY -- Funeral services for Raymond Lee Thomas, Jr., an infant who died Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at Natchez Regional Medical Center in Natchez, will be at 12:00 p.m. today at Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday with the Rev. Jessie Brown officiating.

Burial will be at St. Matthews cemetery on Lake St. John.

Raymond Lee Thomas, Jr. was born October 29, 2003 in Natchez, the son of Raymond and Tameshala Hall Thomas.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Taujuaran Thomas.

Survivors include his parents; a brother, Tyreik Hall and maternal grandparents, Jimmy and Linda Hooper, all of Ferriday, La.; maternal great-grandparents, Johnny and Rosie Hooper of Ridgecrest, La.; paternal grandparents Arthur and Sarah Thomas, paternal great-grandparents Arthur and Truemiller Thomas and Gladys Williams, all of Waterproof, La.; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Geneva Pierce Williams

April 2, 1930 - Oct. 16, 2003

FERRIDAY, LA - Services for Geneva Pierce Williams of Ferriday, who died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at noon Thursday at Eternal Hope in Ferriday with Elder Benjamin Williams officiating.

Burial will be in Moss Grove Church cemetery in Jonesville, LA under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home of Ferriday.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Williams was born April 2, 1930, in Parhams, LA, the daughter of Johnny and Calola Edwards Pierce.

She was a homemaker and a Pentecostal.

Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jessie Williams, Sr.; one son, Joseph Williams; one sister, Maggie Holmes; two grandchildren, Gregory Montgomery and Geneva Williams.

Survivors include two sons, Benjamin Williams and wife, Olivia of Vidalia, LA and Jessie Williams, Jr. and wife, Jacqueline of Ferriday, LA; one step-son, Woody Williams and wife, Ora of Chicago, IL; six daughters, Vertis Royster, LeAnna Williams, Rose A. Williams and Jennie Ledet and husband, Jerry, all of Lake Charles, LA, Clara Williams of Ruston, LA and Calola Williams of Ridgeland; two brothers, Arthur Edwards and Alonzo Edwards of Jonesville, LA; two sisters, Joan Hines and Josephine Edwards of Lake Charles; one god child, Jackie Acker of Newton; 25 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lloyd Lee Bailey

BUNKIE, LA - Services for Lloyd Lee Bailey, 76, of New York City and formerly of Bunkie, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home Chapel, 302 St. John St., Bunkie.

Burial will be in the family plot at Pythian cemetery.

Visitation is from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

He was an award winning interior designer and author of 18 books on entertaining, including Lee Bailey's Southern Food and Plantation Houses, set in Natchez (and winner of a prestigious James Beard Award). During his childhood in Bunkie, which often was referred to in his books and style columns, his family owned both the Bailey Hotel (where he lived) and the Bailey Theatre. His father co-owned Bailey Brothers Construction Co. in Vidalia, LA.

Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd L. Bailey and Ada Joyce White Bailey, formerly of Bunkie and his brother, Herbert A. Bailey, formerly of Natchez.

Survivors include his cousins, Dempse McMullen and Anne McMullen of Natchez, Denise Gee Peacock and Robert M. Peacock of Tampa, FL, formerly of Natchez, Robert L. Bailey III of Covington, La, Pearce Bailey of Sadler, TX and Al Carter of Lake Charles, LA.

Mary Sue Hardy Patrick

FERRIDAY, LA - Services for Mary Sue Hardy Patrick, 53, of Vidalia, LA, who died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at University Medical Center in Jackson, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Pentecostal Church in Ferriday with Brother George Guy officiating.

Burial will be in Andrews cemetery in Aimwell, LA under the direction of Young's Funeral Home in Vidalia.

Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Patrick was preceded in death by her father, Robert J. Hardy; grandparents; one sister, Debra Ann Hardy.

Survivors include daughter, Keri Ann Patrick and granddaughter, Mary Kaitlin Patrick of Vidalia; son, Brian Justin Patrick of Vidalia; sister, Robbie Marie Hawkins and special friend, Joe Canal of Joonesville, LA; brother, Robert John Hardy Jr. and wife, Ann of Vidalia; mother Elma Posey Hardy of Vidalia; former spouse, Kerry "Bubba" Boyce Patrick of Natchez; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Steven Hawkins, Joey Hawkins, Johnny Patrick, Boyd White, Wade Hickman and Robert Hardy.

Honorary pallbearers will be Hiram Copeland and Lyman Gore.

Carl Canull

FERRIDAY, LA - Memorial services for Carl Canull, 90, of Ferriday formerly of Bement, IL, who died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at St. Francis Hospital in Monroe, LA, will be at 7 p.m. today at Young's Funeral Home Chapel of Ferriday with the Rev. Kevin Smith officiating.

Burial will be Saturday in Bement, IL.

Visitation is from 5 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

He was a resident of Ferriday, a retired farmer and rodeo contractor, was co-founder of Piatt County Trailblazers and a member of the Sevier Memorial United Methodist Church of Ferriday. Mr. Canull married Elizabeth E. Christman on May 23, in Champaign County, IL and she died on May 23, 1986. Mr. Canull married LaVonne Ater Canull on November 20, 1993 in Clinton, IL.

Survivors include his wife, LaVonne Ater Canull of Ferriday and her children, Don W. Ater and Family of Ferriday, Ed Ater and Family and Al Ater and Family, all of Ferriday, Lynette Tanner and Family of Frogmore, LA and Kay Goeggle and Family of Ferriday; two daughters, Jan Bell of Oakley, IL and Jacki Morris and husband, Jim of Monticello, IL; two sons, Dick Canull and wife, Sharon of Brooksville and Bob Canull and wife, Chris of Lovington, IL; sister, Norma Hogard of Tulsa, OK; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Sevier Memorial United Methodist Church.

Joseph "Joe" Wilson Hawes

VIDALIA - Funeral services for Joseph "Joe" Wilson Hawes, 91, of Natchez, who died Friday, Oct.10, 2003 at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Young's Funeral Home in Vidalia, La.

Interment will follow at New Pine Hill cemetery in Sicily Island, La. under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Hawes was a charter member and ordained deacon of Sycamore Baptist church. He was retired from Atlas Construction Company after a 40-year career as a welder.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Sr. and Lizzie Hawes; his wife, Clara Roberts Hawes; two brothers, Dennis Hawes and Percy Hawes; two sisters, Grace Hawes Bledsoe and Kate Hawes Denham; and a son, Joseph Edward Hawes.

Survivors include his daughters, Vera Elizabeth Hawes of Natchez and Angela Darlene Hawes of Dallas, Texas; a son, Thomas Perry Hawes of Natchez; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Greg Hawes, Jeff Hawes, Waitus Denham, Garth Windham, Ray Roberts and Lester Doughty.
