NATCHEZ, MS - Memorial services for George Thomas "Tommy" Garland, 60, of Vidalia, La., who died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Albert Fraley officiating.

Mr. Garland was born July 28, 1942, in Natchez, the son of Oscar and Josephine Ferry Garland.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Garland; four children, George Garland Jr. of Vidalia, Robbie Garland of Texas, Anna Jones of Nevada and Theresa Gutsch of Kansas; four grandchildren, Dylan Garland of Vidalia, Steven Gutsch and Amber Gutsch, both of Kansas, and Austin Jones of Nevada; his mother; his mother-in-law, Carolyn Dawsey of Natchez; his brother-in-law, Wayne Thomas of Natchez; his sister-in-law, Debbie Clark of Vidalia; and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Travis Gore, Herbert Cater, Danny Wisner, Sidney Johnson, Tommy Reid, Madeline Wisner, Elmer Gilbert, Gilda Gilbert and Red Klar.

Beth Hammontree Foster

Dec. 25, 1958 - Jan. 20, 2003

NATCHEZ, MS - Graveside services for Beth Hammontree Foster, 44, of Vidalia, La., who died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. today at Greenlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Bobby Cruse officiating.

Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mrs. Foster was born Dec. 25, 1958, in Natchez, the daughter of Owen Gerald and Delphine Jackson Hammontree.

She was co-owner of Hammers Drive Thru in Vidalia, was a member of Vidalia Women's Club and Vidalia Garden Club and was active in Relay for Life.

Mrs. Foster was preceded in death by one daughter, Kristi Lynn Foster.

Survivors include her husband, David Foster of Vidalia; one daughter, Shannon White of Vidalia; two grandchildren, Megan White and Cody White; her father, Gerald Hammontree of Monterey, La.; and her mother, Delphine Hammontree of Vidalia.

Mary Louise Heathcoate

Nov. 15, 1931 - Jan. 17, 2003

NATCHEZ - Graveside services for Mary Louise "Moody" Heathcoate, 71, of Vidalia, La., who died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, in Trout, La., will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Natchez National cemetery with the Rev. Mike O'Brien officiating.

Burial will be under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Laird Funeral Home's Union Street chapel.

Mrs. Heathcoate was born Nov. 15, 1931, in Natchez, the daughter of Robert Lee and Mary Theresa Tageant Hughes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl William Heathcoate, and two sons, John Wesley Heathcoate and William Lee Heathcoate.

Survivors include three children, Carl Robert Heathcoate of Newberry, S.C., Charles Ray Heathcoate of Mesquite, Texas, and Mary Theresa Heathcoate of Jena, La.; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Eliza Magee Ballard

Oct. 8, 1913 - Dec. 15, 2002

DARBUN - Services for Eliza Magee Ballard, 89, of Vidalia, La., who died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, in Natchez, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Magee's Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Smith officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ballard was born Oct. 8, 1913, in Walthall County, the daughter of Jacob J. and Laura Dunaway Magee.

She was a member of Washington Baptist Church in Natchez.

Mrs. Ballard was preceded in death by her husband, Hilton A. "Buck" Ballard; six sisters; and one great-grandson, Jamie Buchinger.

Survivors include two daughters, Sophie Porter of McKinney, Texas and Betty Bowman of Natchez; ten grandchildren, Debbie Bailey, Tammy Oglesby, Lawrence Ringley, Carla Buchinger, Faye Jones, Linda Schaberg, Jimmy Porter, Charmaine Gaspard, Marty Porter and Karen Marshall; 18 great-grandchildren, Vanessa Duffy, Matthew Smith, Rachael Oglesby, Daniel Oglesby, Seth Ringley, Corban Ringley, Brett Buchinger, Ashley Jones, Chelsea Jones, Kalah Spencer, Renee Sunday, Holly Porter, Tiffany Porter, Daniel Porter, Kyle Porter, Taylor Gaspard, Matthew Gaspard and Ashley Marshall; six great-great-grandchildren, Connor Magee Duffy, Christian Spencer, Mackenzie Spencer, Wesley Sunday, McClain Sunday and Adam Sunday.

Pallbearers will be Lawrence Ringley, Frank Bailey, Keith Oglesby, Daniel Oglesby, Matthew Smith and Jon Duffy.

Maxine Pickett

Nov. 13, 1919 - Jan. 7, 2003

NATCHEZ - Services for Maxine Pickett, 83, of Vidalia, La., who died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at her residence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Zion Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Arthur Brown officiating.

Burial will follow in Meadville under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Pickett was born Nov. 13, 1919, in Crosby, the daughter of Rosie Riley and Mack Jenkins.

She was a member of the African Methodist Episcopal church.

Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Pickett of Washington; one son, Simon Pickett of Sacramento, Calif.; one brother, J.C. Riley of Roxie; two sisters, Ernestine Ashley and Eunice McDonald; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Ann Hoggatt Savoy

Oct. 24, 1938 - April 14, 2003

NATCHEZ - Services for Ann Hoggatt Savoy, 64, of Vidalia, La., who died Monday, April 14, 2003, at Professional Rehabilitation Hospital in Ferriday, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul Kunnumpuram officiating.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Savoy was born Oct. 24, 1938, in Natchez, the daughter of Ernest Ferguson and Isabelle Diers Hoggatt Sr.

She was retired from the medical office of Dr. Dudley H. Mutziger.

Mrs. Savoy was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Billy Hoggatt and Joe Hoggatt.

Survivors include her husband, Clyde Savoy of Vidalia; one daughter, Susan Savoy Brown of Pineville, La.; son-in-law, Steve Brown of Pineville; three grandsons, Trey Brown, Hayden Brown and Aaron Brown, all of Pineville; one sister, Isabelle Eyrich Simmons of Natchez; one brother, Robert Hoggatt of Natchez.

Pallbearers will be Trey Brown, Hayden Brown, John Hoggatt, Mikal Rodgers, William Hoggatt, Lance Gill, Dax Gill and Cam Massengill.

The family requests memorials be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or American Cancer Society.

Jack Johnston

June 1, 1935 - Dec. 23, 2002

NATCHEZ - Services for Services for Jack Johnston, 67, of Vidalia, La., who died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at his residence, will be at 10 a.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Kay Moser officiating.

Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Johnston was born June 1, 1935, in Lepanto, Ark., the son of James Henry and Ida Priscilla McQuirter Johnston.

He was a farmer, a member of Church of Christ of Lepanto, was retired from Angola State Prison as farm manager, was owner of Jack's Barbeque and a member of Vidalia Horsemen's Club and Natchez Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Johnston; one daughter, Priscilla Meraz and her husband, Gerry, both of Taylor, Texas; one son, Jackie Johnston and his wife, Darla, both of Vidalia; five sisters, Maxine Hyde and Judy Manley, both of Searcy, Ark., Anabelle Moser of Iowa, Charlene Sauder of Franklin, Ark., and Peggy Overby of Lepanto; one brother, Clyde Johnston of Searcy; six grandchildren, Rhonda Partridge and her husband, Todd, Jaclyn Martin and her husband, Cory, Nicholas Johnston and Madison Johnston, all of Vidalia, Glenn Randall of Pensacola, Fla. and Dennis Randall and his wife, Wendy, both of Thompson Station, Tenn.; and five great-grandchildren, Kelsee Partridge and Kimberlee Partridge, both of Vidalia, Braden Randall of Ridgecrest, La., and Katherine Randall and Katlin Randall, both of Thompson Station.

Pallbearers will be Todd Partridge, Cory Martin, Joe Dallalio, Enis Boyd, Sonny Buckles and Ronnie Randall.

Raymond Lee Crosby

VIDALIA, LA. - Services for Raymond Lee Crosby, 38, of Vidalia, La., who died Saturday, April 12, 2003, in Monterey, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Laird Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Smith officiating.

Burial will follow in Cole Springs Church of Christ cemetery in Bogue Chitto under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Crosby was born Sept. 3, 1964, in Brookhaven, MS, the son of Wayne Patrick and Janice King Crosby.

He was a Baptist.

Mr. Crosby was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife, Diana Cavazos Crosby; one son, Tyler Patrick Crosby of Vidalia; one daughter, Liza Diana Nichols of Deville, La.; two granddaughters, Brooke Danielle Sims and Janice Shelly Taylor Nugent; his mother, Janice Magie of Ridgecrest, La.; his stepfather, James Magie of Ridgecrest; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Roy McManus, Cecil Crosby, Chad Houghton, Perry Crosby, Johnny King and Guy Nichols.

Margaret Walker Wilson

July 15, 1919 - March 4, 2003

FORT WORTH, Texas - Graveside services for Margaret Walker Wilson of Monterey, La., who died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at her residence, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Shannon's Rosehill.

Mrs. Wilson was born July 15, 1919, in Bryan, Texas, the daughter of Mills P. and Minnie Barrow Walker.

She was a resident of Fort Worth from 1942 to 1998. She graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1939, where she was a member of the Delta Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and was a Bluebonnet Belle at the Round Up Ball her senior year. She was a charter member of the Van Cliburn Foundation in Fort Worth and a life member of the Big Ticket Association of East Texas.

She was involved in Bible studies, mission programs and nurseries in churches throughout her whole life, was a hospital volunteer at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth for many years. She assisted with Circle T. Girl Scout Leadership and Camp Training and several organizations of service to the deaf and hearing impaired and was a member of theTarrant County Society for Hearing Impaired. She was a member of Lismore Baptist Church in Monterey.

Survivors include three daughters, Carol Jane Wilson and Mary Adrian Anderson, both of Denton, Texas, and Gretchen W. Jennings of Monterey; four granddaughters, Rebecca Lynn Wheeler of Monterey, Carol Jane Mount, Leigh Anna Hilton and Erika Lynn Anderson, all of Denton; seven great-grandchildren, Walker Wyman Wheeler and Madison Lynn Wheeler, both of Monterey, Courtney Breanne Mount, Katlyn Lauren Mount, Carly Jane Mount, Brad Guy Hilton and Matthew Roy Hilton, all of Denton; and a sister, Shirlireed Walker of Bryan, Texas.

Honorary pallbearers will be W. R. (Junior) Jennings Jr., Wyman W. Wheeler, Roger L. Mount II, Walker W. Wheeler, Walter W. (Pete) Wheeler, C. E. (Buddy) Walters III and Jimmy Dale Guillot.
