Benedict J. DeLuzain
January 27, 2002

Benedict Joseph DeLuzain, owner of Benedict's Plantation Restaurant in Mandeville, died Thursday of a heart attack at his home. He was 64. Mr. DeLuzain was born in New Orleans and lived in Mandeville for the past 30 years.
He was the former owner of Covington Depot Restaurant and Forest Steak House. He was a member of the Louisiana Restaurant Association, the Krewe of Orpheus and the St. Tammany Tourist Commission and a trustee for the for Self-Insured Fund Association.
He attended Jesuit High School, Louisiana State University and Tulane University. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Nickelotte DeLuzain; a son, Nicholas DeLuzain; a daughter, Nicole DeLuzain Dezendorf; his mother, Lillian Bechtel Wiltz; a brother, Bryan DeLuzain; and two sisters, Barbara Maher and Beryl DeLuzain. A Mass will be said Monday at 3 p.m. at St. Joseph Abbey in St. Benedict. Visitation will begin at noon. Burial will be in St. Joseph Abbey cemetery. Schoen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

COLEMAN, JOHN FORREST

John Coleman, 79, tied N.O., Honduras
John Forrest Coleman, a land developer and New Orleans' honorary ambassador to Honduras, died Jan. 12 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. He was 79.
Mr. Coleman was born in San Pedro Sula and moved to New Orleans in the late 1920s with his family. He attended Rugby Academy and Staunton Military Academy in Staunton, Va., and graduated from Isidore Newman School. He attended Tulane University.
Mr. Coleman was a developer in Honduras and country director for the International Executive Service Corps of Stamford, Conn., for the region of Honduras and Belize.
He founded The American School in San Pedro Sula in 1953 and served on its board and as president. He helped found Los Caballeros de Suyapa, a Catholic lay organization for men.
He served as president of the American Cultural Center in San Pedro Sula for several years and was a member of the Rotary Club. He was the founder of the American Chamber of Commerce in the Progreso-San Pedro Sula area. As a result of his work with AmCham, the Honduras American Chamber of Commerce has established the annual John Coleman Award for exemplary community service by a company or individual.
He was named by Mayor Marc Morial as an honorary ambassador in Honduras to the city of New Orleans.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Peyrefitte Coleman; a daughter, Carol Ann Coleman Montealegre; three sons, J. Forrest, James P. and Clayton T. Coleman; a sister, Teresita Williams Park of Mandeville; and nine grandchildren. A funeral was held Jan. 13 in San Pedro Sula.

Burnie Bernard Fowler on Monday, June 25, 2001 at 7:50 PM, husband of the late Irene Duffy Fowler, father of Lisa Kay Fowler Thriffiley and Ryan James Fowler of Rahway, N.J., former husband of Kathleen Crotty Seghers, grandfather of Zachary Taylor, Caroline Juliet and Andrew James Thriffiley, brother of Kay Ann Fowler, son of the late Juliet Sanchez Fowler and M/Sgt Burnie Bedford Fowler, USAF, also survived by a niece and two nephews. Age 58 years, a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Natchez, MS for the past 9 years. Rhoda Gloria Glassman, a homemaker and former travel agent, died Tuesday morning, June 26, 2001, at East Jefferson General Hospital from complications of diabetes. Age 71 years. She was a member of Shir Chadash Conservative Congregation. She is survived by her husband, Frederick Glassman; her children, Rochelle Lynn Aronson and Gail Glassman-Singerman; her sons-in-law, Alan Singerman and Jon Aronson, and her grandchild, Katheryn Aronson. Sondheimer Lumber Co. in Sondheimer, LA for 40 years prior to moving to Folsom. He also served in World War II through the Czech Army in a reconnaissance division under U.S. and British command. Sen. S. citizens under Public Law 94-491 extending to them benefits and recognition for their courage and excellence in battle for risking their lives to escort downed U.S. and British pilots back to safety in Italy and eventually back into action.
