Richard Andrew Batiste, a former truck driver, died Thursday of emphysema at North Shore Regional Medical Center. He was 64. Mr. Batiste was born in Lacombe, lived in California for many years and then returned to Lacombe. He attended Chahta-Ima High School. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include a son Ronald Batiste of Lacombe; a daughter, Chenita Batiste Johnson; his mother, Rosemary Cousin Batiste; two brothers, Rudolph Batiste of St. Louis, Mo. and Michael Hayes Batiste of Sacramento, Calif.; and two sisters, Ernestine Clark of Jonesboro, Ga., and Loretta Ducre of Lacombe. A Mass will be said Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lacombe. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Cousin cemetery. D.W. Rhodes is in charge of arrangements.

JOHNSON, WALTER EDWARD SR.
June 04, 2001

Walter Edward Johnson Sr., a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service, died Friday of organ failure at Touro Infirmary. He was 74. Mr. Johnson was born in Donaldsonville and lived in New Orleans for the past 58 years. He was a graduate of Lowery High School and was trained as a brick mason at Belle Alliance Training Center. Mr. Johnson served in the Army and was an independent carpenter. He was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver. Mr. Johnson was a recipient of the Order of St. Louis Medallion. Survivors include his wife, Clytie Marchand Johnson; six sons, Kenneth J., Eric P., Warren P. and Gerard P. Johnson, Walter E. Johnson Jr. of Donaldsonville and Michael A. Johnson of Moorpark, Calif.; six daughters, Roslyn Johnson Smith, Sharon A. Johnson, Dianne Johnson Jupiter, Wanda C. Williams of Pensacola, Fla., Claudia Johnson Uduh of Dallas and Gail Johnson Iheke of Elizabeth, N.J.; a brother, Curtis J. Johnson of Newport News, Va.; two sisters, Claudia Johnson Celestine of Donaldsonville and Edith Johnson of Lake Charles; 26 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. A Mass will be said Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 3304 Metropolitan St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park. Charbonnet-Labat Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

FOSTER, ERNEST CHARLES
June 04, 2001

Ernest Charles Foster, a retired longshoreman and chauffeur, died Friday of a stroke at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. He was 66. Mr. Foster was born in Hillaryville and lived in New Orleans for several years. He was a graduate of Lowery High School in Donaldsonville. Mr. Foster was a member of Canal Street Assembly of God. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Mitchell Foster; two daughters, Ingrid C. Foster and Ingrid McGee; and two sisters, Sharon Foster and Connie Breaux Foster. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Canal Street Assembly of God, 4737 Canal St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Hopeful Baptist cemetery, Hillaryville. Bultman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ETIENNE, MARIA ‘MITO' CUELLAR
June 04, 2001

Maria "Mito" Cuellar Etienne, a homemaker, died May 28 at her home. She was 92. Mrs. Etienne was born in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, and lived in Kenner and New Orleans for the past 52 years. She earned a teaching degree in Santa Cruz. She was a parishioner of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. Survivors include a son, Alex J. Etienne of Kenner; a daughter, Jeannine E. Frederick of Slidell; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A Mass was saidFriday at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home Burial was in Lake Lawn Park cemetery.

DUFRENE, JIMMY SR.
June 04, 2001

Jimmy Dufrene Sr., an owner of Nitrogen Specialty Co., died Wednesday of a heart attack in Montego Bay, Jamaica. He was 48. Mr. Dufrene was a graduate of West Jefferson High School and Nicholls State University. Survivors include his wife, Cecile Gervais Dufrene; a son, Jimmy Dufrene Jr.; a daughter, Lisa Marie Dufrene; and a brother, Nolan P. Dufrene Jr. A Mass will be said Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Westside Funeral Home, 5101 West Bank Expressway, Marrero. Burial will be in West Lawn Park cemetery, Gretna. Visitation will be today from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. and Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.

CALVERY, WALLACE JACOB
June 04, 2001

Wallace Jacob Calvery, a retired employee of the 7Up Bottling Co., died Friday at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. He was 79. Mr. Calvery was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. He served in the Army during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Dara W. Calvery; five sons, Samuel, Ennis, Tobias and Sebastian Calvery and Wallace Petit; a stepson, Johnny Petit; three daughters, India and Melodie Calvery and Beryl Jones; and a sister, Rosie Calvery. A private funeral was held Friday. Littlejohn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lydia Populus Bastian, a homemaker, died Friday in Slidell. She was 77. Mrs. Bastian was born in Wallace and lived in New Orleans for the past 68 years. She was a parishioner of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Little Flower Church. Survivors includer her husband, Herman L. Bastian Sr.; seven sons, Larry, Dwight, Cedric, Gregory, Kevin, Eliot and Herman L. Bastian Jr.; a daughter, Cherry Reed; two sisters, Rosemary Bastian and Marjorie Oubre; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Little Flower Church, 3810 Leondias St. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in St. Phillip Catholic Church cemetery, Vacherie. D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ARMSTRONG, LILLY M. TURNER

Lilly M. Turner Armstrong, a pastor, died Wednesday of respiratory failure at Life Care Hospital. She was 69. Ms. Turner was born in New Orleans and lived in Boutte for the past 24 years. She was pastor of True Church of God In Christ and was a member of Star of Hope Benevolent Society, Stars of Neremiah Association, Fellowship Gospel Train, Daughters of Jerusalem, Ministers Alliance Association, Forgotten Men Committee and the NAACP. Survivors include two sons, Karl and Lloyd Armstrong Jr.; three daughters, the Rev. Dareal McCray, Bishop Deborah Hall and Rnyshah Armstrong; a brother, Herman Turner; three sisters, Selena Johnson, Verlene Williams and Lula Mae Brown; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Tuesday at noon at Richardson Funeral Home, 11112 Jefferson Highway, River Ridge. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Boutte.

Daisy Mae Patterson Armour, a homemaker, died Friday of myeloma at Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital. She was 81. Mrs. Armour was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She was a member of Battle Ground Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, Harold E. and Nathaniel Armour Sr. and James H. Armour; three daughters, Doris A. Fortuné, Iva A. Jones and Olga A. Richard; a brother, Napoleon Patterson Jr.; two sisters, Marguerite P. Taylor and Joyce Patterson; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, 3501 N. Miro St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Louis cemetery No. 2. Bossiere-Labat Family Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

TILLOTSON, JUNE DENTON
September 3, 2002

June Denton Tillotson, a retired employee for the medical department of the Orleans Parish School Board, died Friday at Lakeview Regional Medical Center. She was 82. Ms. Tillotson was born in Scottsville, Ky., and lived in Mandeville for the past 36 years. She formerly managed the Covington Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Republican Women's Club. Survivors include a son, Michael D. Tillotson; a daughter, Susan Duncan of Jasper, Ark.; and four grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at J.C. Kirby Funeral Chapel, 832 Broadway Ave., Bowling Green, Ky. Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday beginning at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery in Bowling Green.

THOMAS, OTIS CLYDE
September 3, 2002

Otis Clyde Thomas, a retired postal clerk, died Wednesday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 75. Mr. Thomas was an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Katherine McKay Thomas; a stepson, Rodney Leblanc of Baton Rouge; two stepdaughters, Cheryl D. Williams and Carla Leblanc of Baton Rouge; three brothers, Fred, Emmanuel and L.V. Thomas of Houston; a sister, Celestine Johnson of Houston; six stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Gaskin-Southall-Gordon & Gordon Mortuary, 1225 N. Rampart St. Burial will be in Port Hudson National cemetery.

MICHEL, FRANK LEONARD
September 3, 2002

Frank Leonard Michel, a retired restaurant owner, died Sunday at Metropolitan Hospice. He was 81. Mr. Michel was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He formerly worked for Borden Milk Co. and Carm's Beef. He served as a technician 4th grade in the Army during World War II. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife, Linda Fulton Michel; two daughters, Sandra Elizabeth Jones and Cynthia Michel Davis; two stepsons, Joseph and John Anzalone; a stepdaughter, Jill Anzalone Byrd; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Thursday at 10 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home Chapel, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday at 8 a.m. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.

MAGEE, CLIFFORD
September 3, 2002

Clifford Magee, retired proprietor of Magee's Movers of Fine Furniture and Antiques, died Thursday at Memorial Medical Center. He was 76. Mr. Magee was born in Tylertown, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for more than 50 years. He was a graduate of Magee's Creek High School and Jackson College. He served as a sergeant in the Army. He was a member of Prince Hall Association St. Luke No. 4 and Platta Temple No. 15. Survivors include two sons, Gregory and Larry Magee; two daughters, Deborah Magee Myers and Sonji Magee; a brother, Jewel Magee Sr., of Buffalo, N.Y., two sisters, Allean Commodore of Charlotte, N.C., and Venita Stallings of Tylertown, Miss.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Hartzell United Methodist Church, 2014 Caffin Ave., with visitation from 6 p.m. Dismissal will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in St. Roch cemetery. Heritage Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
