Sophie Beard, a homemaker, died Tuesday at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. She was 91.
Mrs. Beard was born in Napoleonville and lived in Madisonville for many years.
Survivors include a son, Edward Beard; a daughter, Creola Beard; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A funeral was Saturday at N.A. James Funeral Home in Hammond.
Burial was in Cooper cemetery in Robert.

JAMES, HARRIETT BURDICK
December 7, 2001

Harriett Burdick James, a retired secretary for IBM in Endicott, N.Y., died Tuesday of Alzheimer's disease at her home. She was 82. Mrs. James was born in Uniondale, Pa., and lived in Endicott and Nimmonsburg, N.Y., before moving to New Orleans 35 years ago. She was past secretary of the Ruby Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Grange, both in Uniondale, Pa. She was twice president of the Women's Society at Aurora United Methodist Church in Algiers and started the Mothers Day Out program. Survivors include her husband, Clyde F. James; a son, Reece A. James; a daughter, Dawn James Petty; a brother, Walton E. Burdick of Bedford Corners, N.Y.; a sister, Lucille Burdick Montgomery of Endwell, N.Y.; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Aurora United Methodist Church, 3300 Eton St., Algiers. Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 West Bank Expressway, Harvey. Burial will be in Uniondale cemetery in Uniondale.

HARVEY, ROVELLA
December 7, 2001

Rovella Harvey, a retired cook, died Sunday of cancer at Lutheran Nursing Home. She was 90. Mrs. Harvey was born in Jayess, Miss. and lived in New Orleans for 70 years. Survivors include a stepbrother, Ollie Alfred; and two stepsisters, Maxine Foxworth of New Brunswick, N.J., and Martha Richards of Farrell, Pa. A funeral will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Washington Funeral Home, 714 2nd St. in Tylertown, Miss. Burial will be in Rocky Hill cemetery.

GRANDERSON, JULIA REBECCA
December 7, 2001

Julia Rebecca Granderson, a homemaker, died Tuesday of undetermined causes at her home. She was 79. Mrs. Granderson was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She was a former cafeteria worker at McDonogh No. 36 High School and a saleswoman at Godchaux's department store. She was a member of Ladies of Charity, Maetoka Galeda Sunday school, Broadmoor Senior Citizens and Usher Board No. 1 of St. John Institutional Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Tyrone D. Humphrey; two daughters, Barbara A. Doublet and Claudette M. Johnson; a sister, Caldornia Williams; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. John Institutional Missionary Baptist Church, 2538 Jackson Ave. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. Magee Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

FINNEY, ANN E.
December 7, 2001

Ann E. Finney, a retired cafeteria worker, died Sunday of heart failure at Charity Hospital. She was 70. Ms. Finney was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She worked for the Orleans Parish School Board. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. She was a member of Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church, its Senior Citizens Ministry and its Sunday school department. She was a volunteer for the Foster Grandparents Program with Associated Catholic Charities. Survivors include a son, Gregory Finney; a daughter, Pamela Finney; a brother, Seymore Finney of Waukegan, Ill.; and eight grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church, 2308 S. Liberty St. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park. Estelle J. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

GAFFNEY, GENEVIEVE B.
December 7, 2001

Genevieve B. Gaffney, a retired accountant, died Tuesday at Doctors Hospital. She was 75. Ms. Gaffney was born in New York City and lived in Jefferson and Harahan for 48 years. She was a graduate of Mount St. Ursula High School and St. Vincent College in New York. She was employed with G and G Accounting for 25 years. She was a member of the New Orleans Amateur Radio Club. Survivors include a son, Thomas F. Gaffney III; a daughter, Lauretta G. May; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Ville St. Marie, 4112 Jefferson Highway, Jefferson. L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

EDWARDS, PEARL LOUISE SMITH
December 7, 2001

Pearl Louise Smith Edwards, a retired professional singer, died Nov. 30 of kidney failure at Memorial Medical Center. She was 67. Mrs. Edwards was born in Ponchatoula and lived in New Orleans for the past 66 years. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. She was a professional singer with Huey "Piano" Smith and the Clowns and Tick Tocks music groups. She was a member of First Holly Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, Dave, Jerome and Herbert Edwards; two daughters, Gloria and Chanel Edwards; 20 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 10 a.m. at First Holly Grove Baptist Church, 4114 Gen. Ogden St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Holt cemetery. Magee's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

FINK, NORMA PAYTON
December 7, 2001

Norma Payton Fink, a homemaker, died Wednesday of cancer at her home. She was 71. Mrs. Fink was born in Oklahoma City and lived in New Orleans for 50 years. She graduated from Pawhuska High School in Oklahoma and attended the University of Tulsa. She was a past elder, charter member and choir member of Parkway Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Delta Aimes and the New Orleans Geological Auxiliary, the Parkway English Handbell Choir and Les Belles Chansons, and she was former president of Chapter Q of PEO Sisterhood. She was a volunteer at East Jefferson General Hospital for 20 years. Survivors include her husband, Darrell M. Fink; two sons, David L. and Stephen L. Fink; a daughter, Janet Fink Howard; a brother, Larry David Payton; and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at Parkway Presbyterian Church, 6200 Camphor St., Metairie. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Herbert J. Nichols, a retired foreman for Continental Can Co., died Wednesday at his home. He was 94. Mr. Nichols was born in Holden, Mo., and lived in Marrero. Survivors include a sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews. A Mass will be said today at 1 p.m. at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 West Bank Expressway, Harvey. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Gretna.

WUCHER, STANLEY F. SR.
November 11, 2002

Stanley F. Wucher Sr., an office manager for Mini-Fleet Service Co., died Saturday at Canon Health Care. He was 88. Mr. Wucher was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 36 years. He was a past employee at Falstaff Brewing Co., where he worked as a warehouse superintendent. He was a volunteer for East Jefferson Hospital and a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Survivors include a son, Lt. Col. Stanley F. Wucher Jr.; a daughter, Gail W. Barrow; a brother, Elmo Wucher; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at noon at Lamana-Panno-Fallo Funeral Home, 1717 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will begin after 10 a.m. Burial will be in Garden of Memories cemetery, Metairie.

TEBAULT, ROSALIE M.
November 11, 2002

Rosalie M. Tebault, a retired manicurist, died Saturday at Dixon Medical Center in Covington. She was 93. Mrs. Tebault was born in New Orleans and lived in Lacombe for the past eight years. She was employed at the Fairmont Hotel Barber Shop and Royal Orleans Barber Shop. She was a member of the St. Tammany Council on Aging. Survivors include a son, Harry S. Williams; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at noon. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Metairie cemetery.

STOHLMAN, MICHEL JR.
November 11, 2002

Michel Stohlman Jr., a retired educator for the St. Bernard Parish school system, died Friday of cancer at Chalmette Medical Center. He was 79. Mr. Stohlman was born in New Orleans and lived in St. Bernard Parish for the past 50 years. He was a graduate of Maumus High School, received a bachelor's degree from Tulane University and a master's from Louisiana State University. He worked at Chalmette High School as an assistant principal, teacher and coach, and as principal at N.P. Trist Middle School. He was a member of Thebian's Fraternity, the National Board of American Association of Retired Persons and the Louisiana Association of Retired Teachers. He was a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medallion and Four Oak Leaf Clusters. Survivors include his companion, Judy Crain; a son, Deacon Michael H. Stohlman Sr.; a daughter, Susan Michelle Stohlman Crovetto; a brother, Morris Michel Stohlman; a sister, Pauline Stohlman Munch; and four grandchildren. A Mass will be said Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 3700 Jean Lafitte Parkway, Chalmette. Visitation will be today at 6 p.m. at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home and Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the church.

SMOOT, ORANGE JR.
November 11, 2002

Orange Smoot Jr., a molder at Lockheed Martin, died Thursday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on U.S. 11. He was 51. Mr. Smoot was born in DeKalb, Miss. and lived in Slidell for 43 years. He was a graduate of Salmen High School and attended Southern University in Baton Rouge. He was a sergeant in the Army. Survivors include his wife, Iris Torregano Smoot; a stepson, Keith Williams of Augusta, Ga.; two daughters, LaShaun and Lacie Smoot of Conyers, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Denise Williams of Augusta; his father, Orange Smoot Sr.; his mother, Velma Roberson Smoot; his grandparents, Louise Anderson of Alabama and Author Roberson; three brothers, Arthur, James and John Smoot; a sister, Edna Despenza; and three grandchildren. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Genevieve Catholic Church, 58189 Louisiana 433, Slidell. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Slidell Memorial cemetery. Doyle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

November 11, 2002

Bernadette Ory, a homemaker and seamstress, died Thursday of pulmonary disease in Metairie. She was 75. Mrs. Ory was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 30 years. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Divine Providence. Survivors include two sons, Byron J. Jr. and Robert J. Ory; a daughter, Joell Ory Sulzer; two sisters, Sister Cecilia Daigle, OSB, and Georgine Naylor; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A Mass will be said today at 11 a.m. at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, 1600 Causeway Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Garden of Memories cemetery, Metairie.
