HIRLING, CHARLES FREDERICH SR.
September 30, 2002

Charles Frederich Hirling Sr., a retired employee of the Port of New Orleans, died Thursday of Alzheimer's disease at Chateau Living Center. He was 90. Mr. Hirling was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include his wife, Gladys Robinson Hirling; a son, Charles Frederich Hirling Jr.; a daughter, Kathleen Hirling O'Neil; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A Mass will be said today at noon at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Vincent de Paul No. 2 cemetery.

MANNING, B. HERBERT JR.
September 30, 2002

B. Herbert Manning Jr., former assistant attorney general of Louisiana and associate regional counsel for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, died Friday of congestive heart failure at his home in Fort Worth, Texas. He was 88. Mr. Manning was born in Yoakum, Texas, and lived in Washington, Baton Rouge and Fort Worth. He attended the University of Texas at Arlington and received an LL.D. from Catholic University of America. He received his law degree from Georgetown University and did postgraduate work at Georgetown, Southern Methodist and Texas Christian universities. He was a member of the Texas state bar, District of Columbia bar, Federal Bar Association, National Association of Housing Redevelopment, Official Texas Housing Association, Louisiana Housing Council and the Oklahoma Housing Council. He was a past chairman of the Amvets Subcommittee. He served as diocesan adviser for numerous retirement facilities. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was in the first wave in the landing at Okinawa. He served as Texas state commander of American Veterans of World War II. Survivors include a daughter, Jean Manning Snelus; a brother, Don Manning; six sisters, Evelyn Beck, Wilma Pannell, Ad York, Doris Ashour, Margaret Kalmbacher and Pat Bilardi; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at 10 a.m. at St. Andrews Catholic Church, 3717 Stadium Drive in Fort Worth. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park in Fort Worth. Thompson's Harveson and Cole Funeral Home of Fort Worth is in charge of arrangements.

MEYERS, ROBERT D.
September 30, 2002

Robert D. Meyers, a retired attorney, died Wednesday of complications from cancer. He was 68. Mr. Meyers was born in New Orleans and lived in New Iberia for the past 21 years. He attended St. Aloysius High School, Southwestern Louisiana Institute and Loyola University, where he received his law degree. He was a veteran of the Air Force. Survivors include his wife, Patricia E. Meyers; five sons, Robert Meyers Jr., Michael, Raymond, Gary and Bruce Meyers; two daughters, Lynn M. Hebert and Lori Meyers; a brother, Roy J. Meyers; a sister, Rose M. Watkins; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Church in New Iberia. Burial will be private. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

QUINTERS, LOIS C.
September 30, 2002

Lois C. Quinters, a homemaker, died Wednesday at Northwest Memorial Hospital in Houston. She was 81. Mrs. Quinters was born in Dayton, Texas, and lived in New Orleans and Metairie for the past 41 years. Survivors include a son, Wayne P. Quinters; two daughters, Gail Q. Cotten and Glynn Q. Riviere; and three grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Garden of Memories.

ABATE, PETER JOSEPH
May 31, 2001

Peter Joseph Abate, a truck driver, retired electric deliveryman and shoe repair man, died Tuesday of a heart attack at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. He was 80. Mr. Abate was born in New Orleans and lived in Harahan for the past 44 years. He served as a Marine during World War II. Mr. Abate was a member of Latter-day Saints Church in Harahan where he served as branch president. Survivors include his wife, Beverly Susan Harlan; two sons, Harlan C. and Jason S. Abate; five daughters, Linda A. Atkinson, Donna S. Abate, Beckey J. Van Buskins, Shannon J. Impey and Holly L. Zurek; two brothers, Charles and John Abate; a sister, Nora Livingston; and 11 grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Professional Funeral Services, 1620 Elysian Fields Ave. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

BARDEN, RANDY RAMON ‘SPOOK' ‘ROMEO'
May 31, 2001

Randy Ramon "Spook" "Romeo" Barden, a construction worker, died May 22 of gunshot wounds at Charity Hospital. He was 21. Mr. Barden was a lifelong resident of New Orleans and was a member of Mount Everest Baptist Church. Survivors include his father, Freddie Barden; his mother, Jeanette Barden; two brothers, Damon Barden and Sylvester Clark; a sister, Regina Barden; and his grandmothers, Cleora Barden and Ella M. Odom of Waterproof. A funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Mount Everest Baptist Church, 2837 First St. Visitation will begin Friday at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery. Littlejohn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BOQUET, SONJA ANN WILLIAMS
May 31, 2001

Sonja Ann Williams Boquet, a typist clerk with the Monterey County, Calif., Department of Social Services, died Sunday of a brain aneurysm at Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula. She was 49. Mrs. Boquet was born in New Orleans and lived in Seaside, Calif., for the past seven years. She was a graduate of L.B. Landry High School and Southern University at New Orleans, and she attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana and the University of Southern Mississippi. Mrs. Boquet was a member of Emmanuel Church of God in Christ. Survivors include her husband, Ernest J. Boquet Sr.; a son, Ernest Joseph Boquet Jr. of Seaside; three daughters, Cantrell K. and Nicole T. Boquet, both of New Orleans, and Nadine Rene Boquet of Seaside; her father, Wilson Williams of New Orleans; a sister, Gabrialla S. DeBerry of West Point, N.Y.; and two grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Church of God in Christ in Seaside. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mission Memorial Park, Seaside. Struve and Laporte Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BOYD, DR. ALAN R.
May 31, 2001

Dr. Alan R. Boyd, a psychiatrist, died May 12 of undetermined causes at his home. He was 51. Dr. Boyd was born in Louise, Texas, and lived in New Orleans for the past 10 years. He received a master's degree from Texas A&M; University and a doctorate from Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Boyd was a resident and professor at Tulane Medical School. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Ceitlin Boyd; a son, Scott Alan Boyd; his father, John Hamilton Boyd; his mother, Lenore Frances Anglin Boyd; his stepmother, Myrtle J. Boyd; two brothers, James Robin and John Boyd III; a stepbrother, Robert Boyd; and four stepsisters, Teresa, Ann and Debby Boyd and Melody Medders. A memorial service was held May 17 at Tulane Medical School. Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mark G. Conlin, a retired seaman, died Wednesday of emphysema at Lacombe Nursing Home. He was 75. Mr. Conlin was born in New Orleans and lived in Lacombe. Survivors include a brother, George G. Conlin. A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West, Slidell. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn cemetery.

May 31, 2001

Bernice M. Cousin, a homemaker, died Monday of renal failure at Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital. She was 74. Ms. Cousin was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include three sons, Emile Heno of Los Angeles, Melvin Heno and Donald Fletcher; four daughters, Shelia Espadron, Sinceria Haynes, Shelita Fernandez and Sandra Vigne; four brothers, Louis and Raymond Cousin and Anthony and Leroy Camp; a sister, Sylvia Armstrong; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 1210 Gov. Nicholls St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

DAUZAT, WILLIE LaVERNE BANES
May 31, 2001

Willie LaVerne Banes Dauzat, a retired telephone operator, died Tuesday of lung disease at West Jefferson Medical Center. She was 73. Mrs. Dauzat was born in Provencal and lived in Waggaman for the past 24 years. She was a graduate of Provencal High School. Mrs. Dauzat was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Survivors include a son, Ronald L. Dauzat of New Orleans; two daughters, Patricia D. Billiot and Mary Louise Dauzat; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd. Visitation will be today from 7 to 10 p.m. and Friday beginning at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Restlawn Park and cemetery.
