MARSH, HERBERT 'JAY' JR.
December 01, 2002

Herbert "Jay" Marsh Jr., a retired fire marshal of Hancock County, Miss., and former owner of Jay's Air Conditioning, died Friday of congestive heart failure at his home. He was 75. Mr. Marsh was born in New Orleans and lived in Waveland, Miss., for many years. He was a Navy veteran. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 77 and its 40/8, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6285 and Knights of Columbus No. 152. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Marsh; two sons, Skip and Thomas Marsh; a daughter, Christina Marsh; two stepsons, Jim and Jason McArthur; three stepdaughters, Therese Klipfel, Angela Shaffer and Allison Wills; three brothers, Elmer J., Robert A. Sr. and Michael J. Marsh Sr.; a sister, Betty Marsh Renz; and 10 grandchildren. A Mass will be said Monday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Bay St. Louis, Miss. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Waveland cemetery in Waveland. Edmond Fahey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

NEYREY, DONNA NAGEL
December 01, 2002

Donna Nagel Neyrey, a science teacher at Roosevelt Middle School, died Thursday of cancer at her home. She was 42. Mrs. Neyrey was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for most of her life. Survivors include her husband, Michael J. Neyrey; a daughter, Amy Inez Neyrey; her mother, Marlene Moreland Nagel; and two sisters, Charlene N. Huerstel and JoAnn Nagel. A funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Park cemetery.

RICHARD, ANN FRISARD
December 01, 2002

Ann Frisard Richard, a professional calligrapher, died Friday of cancer at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. She was 62. Ms. Richard was born in New Orleans and lived in Covington for the past eight years. She was a retired supervisor of the prayer office at the Cenacle Retreat House. She received the Order of St. Louis Medallion from the Archdiocese of New Orleans for outstanding charitable work. Survivors include three sons, Joseph W., Paul and John Richard; a daughter, Beverly Richard Varuso; a brother, Earl J. Frisard Sr.; a sister, Beverly F. Blocker; and six grandchildren. A prayer service will be held today at 3 p.m. at Schoen Funeral Home, 1414 S. Tyler St. Visitation will begin at noon. Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Greenwood cemetery.

SCHMITT, CLAIRE KOKEMOR
December 01, 2002

Claire Kokemor Schmitt, a homemaker, died Wednesday of cancer at her home. She was 61. Mrs. Schmitt was born in New Orleans and lived in Mandeville. Survivors include her husband, Victor Lucien Schmitt Jr.; two sons, Stephen and Victor Lucien Schmitt III; two daughters, Stacy Schmitt and Stephanie Schmitt Popovich; her mother, Claire Langhauser Kokemor; and nine grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Monday at noon at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 21st St., Covington. Bagnell and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

SEGARI, CHRISTOPHER MICHAEL
December 01, 2002

Christopher Michael Segari, a student at Archbishop Rummel High School, died Friday of injuries suffered in a car accident in the 3600 block of West Metairie Avenue. He was 18. Mr. Segari was born in New Orleans and lived in Kenner. He was a member of the school band and webmaster for the school's Web site. He was an altar server for Our Lady of Divine Providence Catholic Church. Survivors include his father, Robert V. Segari; his mother, Corliss Chauff Segari; a brother, Stephen M. Segari; a sister, Ashley E. Segari; and his grandmother, Gladys Mae Chauff. A Mass will be said Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Benilde Catholic Church, 1901 Division St., Metairie. Visitation will be today from 6 to 10 p.m. and Monday beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. Burial will be in Garden of Memories.

SIMS, BESSIE
December 01, 2002

Bessie Sims, a homemaker, died Tuesday at her home. She was 78. Ms. Sims was born in Madison, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for the past 50 years. She was a member of Crowder Boulevard Church of Christ for more than 30 years. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Sims; and a grandchild. A funeral will be held Tuesday at Crowder Boulevard Church of Christ, 7301 Crowder Blvd. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery. D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

SHANKLIN, GEORGE A. SR.
December 01, 2002

George A. Shanklin Sr., a retired shop steward for American Sugar Refinery, died Tuesday of complications from diabetes at St. Charles General Hospital. He was 75. Mr. Shanklin was born in Slidell and lived in New Orleans for most of his life. He graduated from McDonogh High School No. 35 and attended Dillard University. He was an Army veteran and received the Korean Service Medal with a bronze star, the United Nations Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. Survivors include his wife, Kitty E. Carter Shanklin; a son, Jerome Shanklin; two daughters, Verna and Lydia Shanklin; a brother, Lloyd Shanklin; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Greater Little Zion Baptist Church, 5130 Chartres St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Resthaven cemetery. Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

VINCENT, DARLENE GONZALES

Darlene Gonzales Vincent, a homemaker, died Friday of cancer at her home. She was 52. Mrs. Vincent was born in New Orleans and lived in Slidell for the past 11 years. She was a parishioner of St. Genevieve Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, Ronald J. Vincent; a son, Ronald J. Vincent Jr.; a daughter, Dawnelle Vincent Laiche; her mother, Rose Douroux Gonzales; a brother, Edwin Gonzales Jr.; two sisters, Carmen Berard and Cherlyn Zimmerman; and three grandchildren. A funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Park cemetery.

Susan Elaine Smith, a dental hygienist, died Friday of liver cancer at Northshore Regional Medical Center. She was 38. Ms. Smith was born in Houston and lived in Slidell for the past 28 years. She graduated from Slidell High School. Survivors include her mother, Sadie Hankins McClure; two brothers, Arthur F. Norris III of Houston and Calvin L. Coats; and two sisters, Tracy N. Norris of Houston and Patricia D. Hankins. A memorial service will be held today at 4 p.m. at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West, Slidell. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m.

WATSON, HERMAN HILLERY III
December 01, 2002

Herman Hillery Watson III, an employee of Prime Power Services in Mableton, Ga., died Nov. 18 at Grady Hospital in Atlanta from burn injuries suffered in a work-related accident. He was 41. Mr. Watson was born in Marrero and lived in Hiram, Ga., for the past nine years. He a former employee of Halliburton Services in Harvey. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Powder Springs, Ga. Survivors include his wife, Donna Hebert Watson; a son, Brandon Watson; a daughter, Courtney Watson; his mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Watson; a brother, Scott Watson; four sisters, Nettie Carr, Debbie Cuda, Diane Matherne and Gwen Martin; and his grandmother, Mary Ann Ochello. Funeral services were held Thursday at First Baptist Church in Powder Springs. Burial was in Hiram. Bellamy Funeral Home in Powder Springs was in charge of arrangements.
